Love at First Date

Summary:

As of now, the two were close but never actually spent too much time together. They have each other's numbers and have conversed through the phone and occasionally they ran into each other but nothing was ever planned. Until today that is. Jyuto made a move and asked Rosho to meet up with him so they could visit a cafe.

Notes:

Hello! This is my first time ever writing and publishing fanfiction. I really love Jyusho and they have become a huge comfort ship for me recently so I wanted to write more fics for them! I hope you all enjoy it and don't be afraid to let me know what you think in the comments!

Work Text:

Rosho arrived at the police station in a flustered state. He saw Jyuto smoking a cigarette and immediately ran up to him.
“I’m so sorry I’m late!!” Rosho bowed to Jyuto. “A student needed some extra help after school and I got held up I am really really sorry.”

“It’s alright.” Jyuto smiled softly. Rosho looks really cute when he’s flustered.
He threw his cigarette away and tossed a charming smile to Rosho. “Shall we get going?”

Rosho nodded and they both walked side by side to the cafe a few blocks away from the police station.

As of now, the two were close but never actually spent too much time together. They have each other's numbers and have conversed through the phone and occasionally they ran into each other but nothing was ever planned. Until today that is. Jyuto made a move and asked Rosho to meet up with him so they could visit a cafe. Rosho gladly accepted his offer.

Jyuto thought Rosho was a sweet and wonderful person. Of course, he tended to get angry and make some smartass comments sometimes but he never got too aggressive, which Jyuto appreciated.

Rosho believes that Jyuto is an amazing, beautiful, and perfect person in every way. Rosho felt a bit intimidated by his presence, but he also greatly admired him. Yes, he was a cocky bastard sometimes, but he was also strong, level-headed, and confident.

“Ah, we’re here.” Jyuto said and opened the door for him.
He’s such a gentleman, Rosho thought to himself and stepped inside. It was a very simple cafe, nothing too fancy or expensive.

They both took their orders and then sat down at a table for two by the window.

“How was your day today? You mentioned that you had a student that needed extra help, how did that go?” Jyuto asked out of curiosity.

“Ah, my day was good.” Rosho replied. “The student just had difficulty with a few problems and concepts so I gave her a quick lesson.”

“Did she understand the problems?”

“Um, yes she did. She was a bit of a slow learner but she began to understand it eventually.”

“You know,” Jyuto placed his chin on his palm thoughtfully. “I have always felt great respect for teachers.”

“O-oh really?” Rosho questioned.

Jyuto nodded. “Yes, it is a very important job to educate and help the young so that they can grow up to be responsible adults. You’re doing a great deed.”

Rosho felt a bit embarrassed to be complimented, but it also made him feel warm and happy.

“Thank you but I feel like your job is a lot more important than mine. After all, you are a cop. You help and protect people in need.”

Jyuto’s eyes widened at the compliment. Yes, as a cop it was his duty to protect people, but his whole career he has only been focusing on moving up the ranks and putting an end to illegal drugs. Did he ever once truly prioritize protecting other people?

Before Jyuto could respond the waitress had arrived with their food. The waitress placed a cup of black coffee and a scone in front of Jyuto and some pudding for Rosho. Rosho immediately dug in and Jyuto decided to help himself as well.
They maintained conversation, occasionally laughing at each other's anecdotes. There wasn’t a moment of awkward silence (much to the relief of both).

They discussed the DRB, their teammates, their hobbies, and their jobs. Jyuto occasionally made some smartass comments that would either make Rosho smirk or angrily roll his eyes, not that either of them minded. They were both having a wonderful time, and they didn’t want it to end.

The sun was close to setting by the time they were done eating.

“Rosho I know a really good sunset viewpoint. Do you wanna go there and watch the sunset?” Jyuto asked politely.

“Huh why?” Rosho questioned.

“I uh thought it would be nice. It’s alright if you don’t want to.” His voice dropped a bit.

“Oh I’d be happy to go with you!” Rosho swiftly replied.

On the way to the viewpoint, they conversed some more.

“Rosho you used to be a comedian right?” Jyuto questioned

“Um yes. Uh, it was a long time ago.” Rosho fiddled with the watch on his wrist, looking away from Jyuto.

“If I may ask, why did you stop?”

“It’s a bit difficult to explain. I guess comedy just wasn’t for me.” Rosho replied quickly.

Jyuto nodded, deciding not to pry any further.

They arrived at the viewpoint right as the sun began to set. The location itself wasn’t ideal. It was just a railing at the edge of a park with the faint smell of cigarette smoke tainting the area. But the sunset was absolutely beautiful. At that moment the two men just enjoyed the moment of peace next to each other and watched the beautiful gold and orange rays of the sunset give way to the night. Jyuto then turned his eyes away from the sunset and looked at his companion. A soft smile played on Rosho’s lips and his red eyes shined with happiness as he watched the sun go down. Jyuto couldn’t help but feel his heart flutter at the sight.

“Jyuto thank yo-”

Rosho was interrupted by a jolting kiss from Jyuto. The kiss lasted mere seconds, but during that kiss, time had stood still.
Jyuto pulled away and watched as Rosho processed what happened.

“It looks like I really like you a lot Rosho,” He said and smiled at him, his eyes shining.

Rosho still hadn’t spoken, his face still twisted in confusion. A few minutes had passed and Rosho still hadn’t said anything. Jyuto let out a sad sigh.

“Rosho-san I completely understand if you don’t feel the same way. I-”

Rosho immediately interrupted him with another kiss. This kiss lasted longer, full of passion that they both shared for each other. They pulled apart, a blush covering both of their faces.

“I-I also like you too J-Jyuto.” Rosho huffed out.

Jyuto laughed heartily, so glad to hear that Rosho felt the same way he did, and Rosho laughed with him.

“Wait was this a date?”

“I don’t know. You tell me dear ;)”
