Work Text:
Touya knocked on the door, Keigo standing behind him with a few groceries Rei had told them to bring. His mood immediately darkened as soon as Enji opened the door.
Todoroki Enji, successful business owner, known for his flourishing corporation and mass wealth.
Also a total failure of a father.
A sickly sweet smile plastered it’s way onto Touya’s face. The sight of his father’s face made his stomach twist with instinctual fear and the blood in his veins boil.
His father took a deep breath. “Touya.”
“Old man.” Touya shot back.
“Babe,” Keigo said quietly, placing a hand on Touya’s arm. He knew what was going through Touya’s head, and he knew how to calm his partner.
Touya nodded to Keigo slightly as Enji led them into the house.
Rei immediately greeted them with hugs, reducing the tension in Touya’s shoulders. She took the groceries from Keigo as well, and moved to the kitchen, where everyone else already waited.
Natsuo sat with his boyfriend at the counter, while Fuyumi helped in the kitchen, her girlfriend greeting Keigo quickly. Touya wasn’t jealous. He wasn’t . At least, not of Keigo.
The three of them, Rumi, Keigo and Touya, had gone to school together, and after Touya disappeared for a few years to get away from his father, Rumi and Keigo became practically inseparable.
Touya shook his head and turned to his youngest brother, Shoto, who stood awkwardly to the side. Shoto had a friend with him, a boy with fluffy green hair that seemed increasingly nervous.
“Hey, squirt.” Touya said as he reached over to ruffle Shoto’s hair, mixing the red and white.
“Touya,” He said, clearly unamused at the action. He turned to his friend. “This is my oldest brother Touya, don’t let him scare you, even if he’s kind of a jerk. Touya, this is Izuku.”
Touya nodded to Izuku, with a lazy smile.
Enji came to stand next to Touya and lowered his head to say, “May I speak to you for a moment?”
Keigo locked eyes with Touya from across the room and started moving to him as Touya said, “Sure, whatever. Make it fast.”
Enji led him, and Keigo who caught up a moment later, to the living room, which was down the hall and out of earshot from the kitchen.
Enji looked slightly uncomfortable at Keigo’s joining the conversation, but said nothing about it. “I just wanted to tell you that I’m truly sorry for the actions I’ve made in my past. I understand now that it was horrible of me to treat you in such a way.”
Touya raised an eyebrow. “Straight to the point.”
Enji swallowed, uncomfortable. “I also wanted to say that I support your art, choice of career and choice of partner.”
Keigo looked amused, and Touya laughed coldly. “Choice of career? Choice of partner? You fucking better be supportive of Keigo and I, he works with you, and I don’t plan on leaving him. As for choice in career, that’s an odd way to put it, Enji. Besides, you have Shoto for business now, don’t you?”
Enji glanced at Keigo again at that. “Actually, I wanted to speak with you about that as well. Alone, please.”
Keigo looked at Touya with a soft expression, putting a hand on his arm again. Touya nodded and said to Keigo, “Go help in the kitchen. I’ll be alright.”
Keigo glanced between father and son quickly, worried. After a few moments of hesitation, he nodded and left with a kiss on Touya’s cheek.
Touya glared at Enji and crossed his arms. “What about Shoto?”
Enji cleared his throat. “I was thinking about how I would like to retire soon. I’ve built this company since the beginning, and I’m tired. I want to work on my relationship with you, your siblings and your mother.”
Touya furrowed his eyebrows. “Retirement? But Shoto isn’t old enough to take over the company yet. I thought that was your big plan.”
Enji nodded, not meeting Touya’s eyes. “That was the plan, yes. However, the plan has changed. That is, if you’ll agree.”
Touya narrowed his eyes, suspicious. Why would he have to agree? The old man has never asked for his opinion on anything, what changed?
His father continued, finally meeting his son’s eyes. “I want Takami to take over. He’s already my second in command, it would only make sense. He’s capable and I trust him with the company.”
He wants- What? He wants Keigo to take over? What happened to the perfect child? What happened to Endeavor’s heir? “Why do you need my approval?”
Enji rubbed the back of his neck and looked up. “Because he’s your- he’s your-”
Touya raised an eyebrow. “Boyfriend?”
Enji looked increasingly uncomfortable, and Touya took pride in that. “Yes. Your- boyfriend . And I know that you don’t like the company, or Takami’s affiliation with it, so I wanted to make sure you’re comfortable with it before I offered it to Takami.”
Touya blinked. He hadn’t even mentioned it to Keigo yet? That’s why he didn’t want him there. “Well. That’s something, I guess. Look, I don’t care what you do with your company, and I’ve come to terms with Keigo’s involvement. I appreciate that you came to me first, but at the end of the day, Keigo makes his own decisions. If he turns the offer down, I’ll support him. If he accepts, I’ll still support him.”
Enji looked, for lack of a better word, dumbfounded. He tried, he really did, and Touya appreciates it. While it doesn’t make up for much, the old man is trying.
“Now, if that’s it, I’d like to go help mom make cookies and pretend to be a normal family.” And with that, he turned and left Enji there.
When he returned to the kitchen, a scene of chaos waited for him. Keigo was staring at two measuring cups, on the verge of tears. Izuku held an open flour bag precariously, while Shoto mixed cookie dough. Rumi stole a piece of the cookie dough, only to turn slightly green and stick her tongue out. Fuyumi laughed at her girlfriend, and stole a piece of cookie dough as well.
Her expression was similar. “Sho, honey, I think you mixed up the salt and the sugar,” she said in a concerned older sister voice. Shoto frowned down at the mix and squinted at a bag of salt next to him.
Natsuo and his boyfriend, Tenko, worked on a half finished cherry pie crust, pausing occasionally to make out before Fuyumi scolded them.
Touya watched them with slightly raised eyebrows and a small smirk. They truly looked like a real family for a moment.
Rei pointed to one of the measuring cups in Keigo’s hands and told him that it was a teaspoon, and the other is a table spoon.
Natsuo pulled out a rolling pin for the crust, and Shoto watched him while mixing a new batch of cookie dough to replace the salt one. As he rolled out the crust, Tenko watched with a small frown.
“That’s what that’s for? I always thought it was just to beat kids.”
Shoto looked bored as he said it and Touya smacked a hand over his mouth to hold back from laughing too loudly, it failed. Everyone else stared at Shoto in horror, and Enji had happened to walk in at that moment to be met with wide eyed, open mouth looks of shock.
Touya’s laughter seemed out of place, but after a few moments, Shoto joined him with his own quiet laugh. Touya had been the only one to recognize it as a joke.
When Touya finally caught his breath, he said, “It’s a joke. He knows perfectly well what a rolling pin is for. The only one that would have used that against us was Fuyumi to make us stop stealing her muffins. And even if she did that, she would feel so bad that she’d make cookies for us the rest of the month.” He heard a few relieved sighs, but Natsuo was still glaring full force at Enji. Fuyumi scoffed.
Izuku’s frame relaxed considerably as he continued his journey across the kitchen with the large bag of open flour to the counter next to Touya.
He set it down as carefully as he could, but didn’t notice the corner of the bag that was just a little too far off the counter. Touya barely glanced at Izuku, while Keigo’s eyes widened as the bag slipped and-
And absolutely covered Touya in white.
The kitchen went silent for a second time. and Izuku watched Touya with terrified eyes. Touya frowned down at his black- now dusty white- jeans, while everyone else wasn’t sure how to respond.
Keigo was the first to break the silence, laughing. Touya scowled at him, before taking a nearby measuring cup, scooping some of the flour still in the bag out, and flinging the flour as if the measuring cup were a slingshot.
That effectively shut him up, as well as earning a “Touya!” from Rei. Touya laughed at Keigo now, his expression one of betrayal.
Next to him, Izuku started giggling too. Touya promptly poured a cup of flour into his fluffy green hair as well.
The result was an all out flour war. They threw flour at each other, and hid behind anything readily available as a shield (pillows, pots and pans, trays, etc)
It ends when Natsuo dumps a bag of flour on Enji when he walks into the room and they all freeze. Enji, however, starts laughing. Touya starts laughing as well, and a few others join in awkwardly.
Rei smiles fondly at them all and ushers them out to the backyard to clean them off with the hose, and left to get new clothes for everyone, as she didn’t get hardly any flour on herself.
Touya got to blast Keigo with freezing water first, earning him a sound close to a squawk. Rumi, cackled at his reaction in the background.
Touya turned the hose on her in response. Rumi yelped and said, “Hey! You can’t do that to the winner of the war!”
Touya laughed and dropped the hose. “ You won the war? I started it, and hit the most people. If anyone won the war, it was me.”
Rumi grinned, her smile bordering on feral. “You wanna bet, pretty boy?”
Keigo cut in then, “I agree with Rumi: Touya is a very pretty boy.”
Natsuo snorted and shouted, “Biased! And if anyone should have won, it’s me. I’m the one that poured flour on Enji’s head, that deserves some credit.”
Rumi rolled her eyes. “That was an accident.”
Touya scoffed. “Actually, I agree with Natsu, he won. Definitely.”
Rumi grabbed the hose from off the ground, continuing to clean herself off. “Nope. It was an accident. Doesn’t count, besides did you see when I decked Shoto in the face with about three cups of flour? That’s worthy of a win.”
Shoto wiped a bit of flour off his face and inspected it. “It was something.”
Izuku scrunched his nose when Shoto wiped the flour on him, but he grinned nonetheless. “I saw it, Rumi. I thought it was pretty funny.”
Rumi pointed to him. “See! Hah!”
Touya yanked the hose from her. “Natsuo managed to dump flour on Enji, that’s worthy of an award .”
Enji snorted.
Natsuo raised his eyebrows. “That’s two sounds of amusement from him today. Guys I hate to break it to you but I’m pretty sure that this is a dream.” Fuyumi smacked him for that, and Enji rolled his eyes.
Rumi stared at the hose in Touya’s hands. “You wanna try me?”
Touya’s grin matched Rumi’s. “Maybe I do, Rabbit.”
Rumi growled. The nickname had come about after she acted in a movie where they gave her a bunny tail and ears that looked a little stupid on a character that was supposed to be a hero. Fuyumi thought it was adorable, though.
Rumi ran at him suddenly, knocking him over when they both slipped on flour-water slicked grass.
The breath was knocked out of his lungs when Rumi landed on him, but it didn’t stop him from pushing her off and tackling her. This time, it was a wrestling war.
Fuyumi sighed and stood next to Keigo. “I had a feeling something like this would happen.”
Keigo chuckled. “At least they’re getting along.” Rumi cackled as she managed to pin Touya. “Sort of.”
Touya responded by elbowing her in the stomach and standing up, only for her to sweep his legs out from under him. He hit the ground with a thud and Fuyumi asked who they thought would win. Everyone responded with, “Rumi.”
To which Touya huffed and yelled, “Hey! My own boyfriend doesn’t even believe in me.”
Keigo grimaced. “Sorry, babe, but I know how strong Rumi is. She’s sucker punched a few guys that tried hitting on me after you and I officially started dating. Not that she hadn’t picked fights before that. Granted, she was drunk all of those times- but she’s strong as fuck. That said, Rumi, please don’t break my boyfriend, I had plans for him tonight and it would be preferable if he was still in one piece for that.”
Rumi laughed at that, and Shoto gagged. Fuyumi and Natsuo rolled their eyes. Enji looked somewhat uncomfortable, and Rei looked on, amused, while Tenko watched boredly, and Midoriya looked a little embarrassed.
Keigo and Fuyumi eventually broke up the wrestling when Touya’s asthma caught up to him.
They all got washed off, and took turns changing in the bathrooms.
Only then were they finally able to start baking. Natsuo and Tenko’s pie (which had been put in the fridge for shelter when the flour war started) went into the oven, as well as Shoto’s cookie dough, which he’d restarted after the salt incident.
Rei closed the oven door and as she pulled off the oven mits, she said, “Touya, dear, will you set a timer for the pies? They’ll be done before the cookies.”
Touya snorted and reached over for his phone. “Why do we need a timer? Are they running a race?” Keigo rolled his eyes and smacked Touya’s arm with a napkin.
He set a timer anyway, and the energy in the room shifted as Rei said they could start on frosting for the cookies now.
Enji offered to help, which was met with a mix of happiness (from Rei and Fuyumi) and shock (from everyone else).
However, he didn’t know the first thing about baking so when he turned the mixer on the highest setting after dumping in powdered sugar, half the kitchen was covered in a dusty white, yet again.
Enji himself groans, while everyone else laughs. He got cleaned up, and Rei finished the frosting. Eventually, they were able to pull together a few batches of cookies and a pie for Shoto and Midoriya’s school bake sale. Not too bad, in Touya’s opinion.
And they were able to act like a normal (and somewhat chaotic) family.
And all it took was baking cookies, who would have thought.
