There he sat, alone. This is one of those times where he could be alone without his team worrying about him, everyone was asleep. Or so he thought.
The boy pondered and sat by himself. Watching the stars and the moon. He wondered about his luck, his friends, his team, and his future. His everything. How far am I really going to make it? My luck will kill me someday. He picked a nearby sweet flower from the ground and twirled it in his hand. “Maybe one day, I can break the curse - and not be so lonely,” a tear fell down his cheek.
“Why is Bennett… sad?” Bennett jumped - he didn’t expect Razor to be there, the wolf’s words startled him. “I-I’m not sad. Don’t worry, Razor. I’ll be fine.” he forced a smile wiping his tears before the wolf could see his face. “You can tell me… anything. Razor is friend,” he softly smiled and sat next to the goggled boy. Making him look away.
They sat in awkward silence for a little bit. Bennett fidgeting with his flower, and Razor picking dirt from his nails.
“Sometimes… I just feel really lonely, you know?” he looked back up to Razor. “I understand - Bennett want hug?”
“A hug?” Bennett wasn’t too big on touchy interactions. But he couldn’t push away his best companion. “That sounds… nice. Yeah - yeah, could I have one?” Razor nodded his head. “Always hug for friend, Bennett.” he wrapped his arms around Bennett, the other boy returning the hug - they embraced each other's warmth, cuddling into one another. “Are you not afraid of me, Razor?”
He tilted his head. “So many friends - and people have left me. They never want to hang out. They think my bad luck is contagious - and sometimes… it is.” The boy started tearing up. Razor frowned. He took a grab of Bennetts shoulders, and looked directly into his eyes. “I’m not afraid,” he shook his head, “Bennett friend! No fear of friends. Razor… helps Bennett. Protect Bennett! Never leave Bennett’s side!” he smiled confidently, “Never leave Bennett alone.” Bennett’s face flushed a light pink. He dropped his flower. His mouth opened a little from the shock. Razor’s poor speaking ability had made what he said a bit funny, but Bennett couldn’t process that his companion - no, friend - no, best friend - no! His crush - had just sworn to protect him, that he would never leave his side no matter what.
He closed his mouth to swallow, opening it again to speak, “thank you, Razor. Thanks for being such a great friend, I don't know what I would be like without you.” he looked down. The hooded boy lifted the young adventurer's face, “Bennett very strong too.” he asserted, wiping away his tears and pulling his cheeks into a smile. “Very strong,” he smiled softly, “Bennett... deserve happy.” Bennett pulled his face away from Razor’s hold, “thank you, Razor.”
“Everyone deserves happiness, you’re right.” his smile turned back into a frown. “But sometimes I guess it feels like maybe I’m an exception, and that I shouldn’t deserve happiness.” his voice cracked and Razor puffed his cheeks. “Lie. Bennett does deserve… happiness too. Bennett is good friend, Bennett help Razor… Razor help Bennett.” he picked up the boy’s flower off the ground. “For you,”
“Thank you, Razor. You’re an amazing friend to have.” he took the flower back and hugged him once again.
