Work Text:

It was a quiet night. The wind blew roughly through Dabi's hair. He sat on the edge of the railing looking over Japan. The Tokyo Tower. No one was around, Dabi made sure of that. He snuck up the stairs after visiting hours to think.

Seeing the stars so close made Dabi feel more at peace. Well, at peace you could get for a murderer and forgotten son.

Taking out his phone he dialed Hawks to come meet him. Not for any mission, or to meet the league. But to just talk. About what? Hawks would decide when he got here. Looking closer at the stars above he felt a familiar presence within himself. A warmth that he has only felt when he was young. Or when he is with Hawks, cuddled in his bed. A good warmth.

Closing his eyes, he could see himself.

---
"Toya, we need to start your hero training."

"Okay!" Younger Toya, no older than 5 rushed by his father's side walking to the specially designed room for his quirk.

"Toya, I want you to try activating it in your hand. Like this," His father, Endeavor, held out his hand with a small flame.

"O-Okay," Taking a deep breath he activated his quirk on his right palm.

"Good, now see if you can dual fire in both palms."

"I can try." He stared at his left palm. His face was as focused as a 5-year-old could get. His little button nose scrunched up, it looked adorable. Then the fire began in his left palm. Quickly, he moved both hands together and stretched them out to his dad with a triumphant shout.

"Toya, shh, your mother is sleeping."

"Sorry, Dad. I'm just so happy. Do you think I could become as strong as you?"

"Only if you practice." Toya nodded, his head-turning the answer over in his head, like a puzzle.

---

"Dabi?" He turned around and there was Hawks. In his... sleeping outfit?

"What are you wearing, Birdie?" Dabi had a sly grin on as he watched Hawks saunter over to him. Hawks leaned on the railing rather than sit on it like Dabi.

"Clothes the last time I checked." He chirped a bit in his ear. Hawks leaned on Dabi and muttered a small 'warm'.

Dabi wrapped his arm around Hawks, teasing a smile to appear on his grotesque face. His grotesque face...

---

"Toya, you need to continue."

"But dad it hurts!" Toya raised his arms as proof of a slight burning. Endeavor frowned.

"Is this because of your now white hair?" Endeavor quietly spoke to himself. It was true. Toya had red hair when born, like Endeavor's. But now, 14 years later. It was fully white, like his Mother's.
"Dad, I can't."

"Toya." Endeavor was furious, he had not spent all this time teaching his son to not get an heir to overthrow All Might. To cross that damn bridge! "That's it."

"Huh, what's it?" Toya looked up confused at his father.

"You. Out."

"What! You're kicking me out of the house!" Toya would've been crying if it weren't for the steamrolling off him in waves.

"Not out of the house, out of my life." Endeavor pushed Toya out of the room and slid the door shut in his face.

Toya sat there for a second. A long second. He was not enough for his father. He tried so hard, he wanted to become a hero too. Now, he was nothing without that. Nothing! Heroes are now dead in his eyes. Tricking others to follow.

---

"Dabi, you're bleeding!" Hawks clutched his jacket. Dabi didn't move. He heard the other man coo softly and wipe off the blood with a greasy napkin he ate chicken with earlier. "Dabi, are you okay?"

"No." Dabi felt his throat contract. He would be crying right now if it weren't for his father.

---

He heard screaming coming downstairs, and paramedics rushing inside the estate. Shoto was crying holding his face. Endeavor looked pissy. And mother had fainted and was being taken away in a stretcher. Endeavor began talking to one of the nurses that had arrived. Shoto was being treated and given a bandage on his face in time. Toya clutched his younger brother trying to soothe his sobbing. They never had moments like this, never as siblings. To each other, they were strangers.

Toya carried Shoto up to his room and stared down Endeavor when he looked at him. Tucking Shoto in he sang a sweet tune to get him to calm down. A tune he heard his Mother sing to his sister when she was being taken care of. Toya never had that treatment from his Mom.

"Mori mo iyagaru, Bon kara saki-nya."

Shoto stalled a moment, then continued crying.

"Yuki mo chiratsuku-shi, Ko mo naku-shi."

Shoto began to calm down some.

"Bon ga kita-tote, Nani ureshi-karo."

Shoto's eyes began closing slightly.

"Katabira wa nashi, Obi wa nashi."

Shoto fell asleep. Finally.

"Dabi!? You're heating up!" Dabi cut out of his stupor and realized he was burning. You could see the smoke coming off of him, and little sparks in the gaps between the purple skin graphs and pale skin.

"Shit." Dabi breathed and his skin cooled.

"What was that?" Hawks started prodding at Dabi's arms and face.

"My quirk." Hawks scoffed at his answer.

"I knew that Hotstuff. But why was it- are you feeling ok?" Hawks grabbed Dabi's face with both his hands and looked deep into his own starry eyes. Much prettier than the actual stars in Hawks' mind.

"I'm fine, Keigo." Dabi pulled the Keigo card, meaning he wasn't fine.

"Ok... Ok, Ok, Ok." Hawks was thinking 100 miles per minute. (160934 meters per minute). He could never read Dabi's face. The walls he put up were stronger than anyone he had ever met.

"Can we go home, now?" Dabi looked fearful for a second. He wanted nothing more than to forget this night and be with Hawks. The one person knows who he is- was.

Hawks nodded sadly, "grab on". Dabi gripped Hawks with a death grip. He wasn't going to repeat falling 80 stories and narrowly making it. He stuck his head in Hawks' shoulder and tried to stay calm.

---

"Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind!"

The movie was playing the underrated Lilo and Stitch. Dabi picked it, it would surprise everyone but Hawks. Dabi knew just about every Disney movie because of his younger sister. Which Hawks didn't know the name of. He only knew Dabi's real first name, Toya. Nothing else.

Dabi snored softly under hawks. Hawks was laying on Dabi and watching the movie, with occasional chicken pieces here and there. "I love you, Toya." Hawks hugged Dabi and drifted off thinking about...them... as one.

Extra Scene:
"Hey, Endeavor. How is life treating ya?" Hawks entered the meeting room surrounded by top pros.

"Good. Hawks, why were you late? Typically, you are of the first to arrive." Endeavor was pouring himself some cheap coffee.

"Not today Endeavor-san, I was looking into a missing person case and lost track of time."

"Who are you looking for?" He took a sip of the lukewarm coffee.

"A friend of mine is filed as a missing person. I want to know more about him. Since he would never tell me anything about him. All I know is his quirk is blue flames, and the first name is Toya."

Endeavor choked on his coffee.
