Work Text:
These days were Kaminari’s favorite.
Class 1-A would gather around in the common room and watch a movie or two together. It wasn’t mandatory but usually, everyone would show. Sometimes Sero and Kirishima would make killer forts that would make Baby Kaminari cry on the spot.
This night there was no fort, but it was the next best thing - a cozy night. Just blankets and cookies and cuddles whilst Aristocats played.
Currently, Thomas O’Malley (the Alley Cat) was singing his introduction song. Aoyama, Ojirou, and surprisingly Tokoyami were humming the tune along with the tomcat.
Kaminari couldn’t even remember who picked the movie this night...maybe Momo? She always picks Disney movies, specifically the classics.
“Yo’,” Kaminari whispered as he turned to look up at Sero, “Who chose this, again?”
“Uh...I think it was Oji...no...uhm. Dude, I don’t know.”
Kaminari groaned before repositioning himself with his head in Sero’s lap.
His eyes flickered away from the screen to see where all his other friends were.
The Dekusquad had formed a massive cuddle pile consisting of a few semi-members and the main members. Lucky bastards had Iida and Tsu. And Todoroki!...well his warmer side was taken up entirely by Midoriya.
Bakugou and Kirishima were laying on opposite ends of a couch. Below them, Momo, Jirou, Mina, and Hagkure sat with their back resting against the front of the couch.
Shouji was sitting in a chair, Tokoyami was sitting on the armrest of it. Kouda was asleep at the foot of it, the chair being the only thing that kept his head up.
The other students of 1-A were spaced out normally, not much for cuddling.
Kaminari’s attention went back to the screen when the white kitten gasped, offended clearly.
If...if Kaminari were to be anyone in this movie he thinks he’d be the orange kitten...what was it? Toulouse.
“Sero,” Kaminari spoke softly, not even bothering to look at his friend this time. He took the hum, Sero gave as permission to continue, “If you were one of these cats I think you’d be the grey kitten. I’m the orange kitten”
“Bro! Kiri is Thomas O’Malley,” Sero contributed.
The redhead must have heard because his head shot up from his pillow, annoying Bakugou immensely.
“Kiri’s what?” Kirishima repeated.
Ah, so he just caught his name.
“Thomas.” Sero informed him, “I’m Burloiz, Kami is Toulouse.”
Mina’s interest piqued, her head leaving Hagakure’s shoulder.
However, Kaminari was barely paying attention to Mina; Kirishima looked like he was on the verge of tears.
“You guys think I’m Thomas?” Kirishima placed a hand on his heart, “You guys! That means so much. Thomas O’Malley is so manly.”
Bakugou’s eyebrows furrowed. Kaminari had to stifle his laughter when he saw the explosive boy look around the room for anyone else who was confused.
“It’s...it’s a fucking cat,” Bakugou shouted, “It’s not….it’s a c at. ”
Kaminari hears Sero snort from above him in a poor attempt to contain his laughter.
Kirishima truly did seemed flattered at the comparison and it only made Bakugou more confused. To be fair….he was right - Thomas is indeed a cat. A very manly cat.
Kaminari should have known one of Kirishima’s childhood idols was Thomas O’Malley.
Mina gasped, having a sudden realization, “Oh my god! Does that make me Marie?”
Bakugou barked out a laugh, “Fuck no, you’re one of those goose sisters.”
Kaminari’s hand flew to his mouth at the same time Mina’s did.
The question is: Abigail or Amelia? Honestly, Kaminari wasn’t sure which one was which.
Kaminari watched as Mina sat with her mouth open in shock. She was probably finding a million different ways to kill Bakugou in her head.
“Momo is Duchess,” Jirou announced to replace Bakugou and Kirishima’s snickers and Mina’s very loud silence.
“Uraraka is Edgar!” Midoriya shouted in return.
Soon the room was flooding with shouts of who’s who.
“Aoyama is the mouse!”
“No way! The mouse is Sato”
“Can I be Scat Cat?”
“Scat Cat’s too cool for any of us.”
Kaminari giggled as Mina and Hagakure discussed which of the goose sisters they’d be.
“Are you happy with the problem you’ve created,” Sero asked raising a brow.
Kaminari hummed, “Very.”
Despite all the chaos, it quickly simmered down once Tokoyami announced Lafayette and Napoleon were on screen. At first, Kaminari didn’t know who he was talking about but he was able to come to the realization that he was talking about the two dogs once he actually looked towards the screen again.
Kaminari curled up tighter as he regained focus. Sero was the best pillow ever.
----
“Are we just gonna ignore the racist depiction of a siamese cat?”
“Yep.”
Someone turned the lights back on leading to a series of groans and complaints. Kaminari took inhaled before exhaling deeply; damn he had to go to his room now. He was so warm and he’d been on the couch for so long. The couch probably got used to him, it would
want
him to stay.
Kaminari continued to lay down, watching as Momo and Iida began gathering blankets and discarding empty snack wrappers.
Uraraka tried to get up and help Iida but the man insist she relax and that the Class Reps. could take care of the mess.
Uraraka huffed but when Midoriya made space on Todoroki’s right side she was ever so glad to relax.
“Kami,” Sero poked the blonde’s cheek, “You have to get off of me.”
Kaminari groaned but sat up anyway. He moved his neck around, noticing it was about stiff. Probably what he gets after laying his head in the exact same position for an hour and so minutes.
Sero stood up and stretched his arms as he yawned, “Shit, I think my...I think my legs fell asleep.”
“Who cares,” Mina groaned, “my entire body fell asleep.” The girl was sprawled out like a starfish in the middle of the floor.
She lifted her head up, “Bakubabe, do you wanna carry me to my room?”
Bakugou face turned into the exact same expression he wore when Kirishima called Thomas, manly.
“Why the fuck would I want to do that?”
“Cause you love me?” Mina smiled.
“Whoever told you that was a fucking liar,” Bakugou scoffed throwing Kirishima’s ‘Crimson Riot’ blanket over his shoulder.
Kirishima beamed, “I can carry you!”
Kaminari huffed as Mina cheered out. He flopped back down to a Sero-less couch. Movie night was over and now Kaminari was just tired. If he could fall asleep on the couch he would but he didn’t bring his blanket so he’d be cold.
And also it was against the rules.
Maybe Kirishima would carry Kaminari too? He probably would if Kaminari asked, but that would be such a hassle. Picking up Mina, carrying her to his floor, coming all the back down to the common room, picking up Kaminari, carrying him to his floor, and then Kirishima would have to go back to his room. At least Kri and Mina lived on the same floor.
Iida could probably carry him.
Or Kaminari could just get up.
The blonde did exactly that. He was honestly quite surprised his legs hadn’t fallen asleep. Actually, not a single body part had fallen asleep if you don’t count his crickety neck.
Even so, Kaminari stretched and raised his arms up with a yawn just as Sero did moments before.
“Kaminari!”
The blonde frowned as his name was called out. He recognized the urgent voice to be Iida’s he just was unsure why it was...urgent.
The electric boy looked behind him. Did do something? He didn’t remember doing anything.
“What?”
He looked to his other classmates who looked about just as confused as he felt.
“Are you hurt? Why didn’t you go to Recovery Girl? I don’t...what happened?!” Iida quizzed concern flooding into his voice.
Hurt?
Kaminari looked down at himself and he looked...the exact same as always.
“The fuck is Glasses talking about,” Bakugou cursed, his red eyes scanning Kaminari for injuries.
“I don’t kn-”
“You have...marks,” Iida explained, his voice a lot calmer than before, “Red, angry marks on your torso.”
Oh.
Ohhhhh.
Kaminari laughed weakly, unsure of what to say.
He did in fact have red marks on his torso. They were Lichtenberg figures, it was a drawback of his quirk. They didn’t hurt much, the redness would go away after 24 hours. Just occasionally he’d get jolts of pain, not unbearable thought. Sometimes if he really overwent his limit the scars would stay longer, and the pain would hurt more.
“Uh, heh,” Kaminari scratched the back of his neck.
“Denks...are you hurt,” Mina gasped. She was no longer sprawled across the floor, she was the opposite - standing stiffly next to his other friends.
Oh gods he hated the worried look on her face.
“No!” He shouted holding up a hand, desperate to reassure his friend, “I’m fine. It’s just I don’t know how to explain it.”
Bakugou’s eyes narrowed and he looked Kaminari up and down again, “Show me.”
“...what?”
The explosive boy folded his arms together the intimidating look not leaving his face, “You heard me. Show me what Glasses is talking about.”
Kaminari bit the inside of his cheek but nodded. He lifted up his shirt enough so they could see the fern-shaped scar traveling all the way to his chest.
It honestly looked better than it had earlier today. Not that he was going to mention that. It was paler than before, already fading.
“It’s not that big of a deal.”
Bakugou stepped closer to him.
And then he poked the Lichtenberg figure.
Kaminari yelped in pain as Bakugou’s finger met his sore skin. He could feel a sensation of nerves go through his chest, traveling. He lept away from Bakugou.
He wanted to curl his arms around his torso, but hat would irritate it further.
“Bakugou!” Mina scolded.
“What? Fucking nerd is hurt. If he was ‘fine’ he wouldn’t have yelped like a bitch who got her tail stepped on,” Bakugou huffed.
Kaminari shook his head, “I am fine!”
He was really. He wasn’t in danger. It was minor pains only caused by contact to the skin. Thank you, Bakugou.
“Should I take Kaminari to Recovery Girl?” Midoriya asked as if Kaminari wasn’t right there.
Iida nodded, “yes”
“No!” Kaminari shouted.
Sero bit his lip and stepped closer to Kaminari. Oh god no! Sero was worried too?
“Kaminari, I know you don’t want to see Recovery girl bu-”
“Shh!” Kaminari hissed, stepping back from Sero, “I don’t want to bother Recovery Girl over nothing.”
“This isn’t fucking nothing you idiot,” Bakugou snapped, “What the fuck are those things?”
Bakugou sounded angry -
furious
. Kaminari knew that the boy was worried, even with the venom lacing his voice. Bakugou was just bad with affection.
Bakugou at least earned an explanation from Kaminari. Even if he had no idea where to begin.
“They’re....they’re Lichtenberg figures and they don’t hurt it’s just my skin....it’s more sensitive if those scars are around. But they go away, it’s just from training,” Kaminari explained, “This always happens.”
His friends only looked more horrified from his description. Hell, Mina and Sero looked like they were going to be sick.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Kirishima’s voice...was so soft and shaky.
Shit.
Kaminari went to Kirishima and grabbed his hand, “I would have! It’s not that I was trying to keep it from you guys it just never came up and it...isn’t important. It just happens.”
Kirishima didn’t look anymore satisfied with the answer. He looked away from the blonde.
“Kiri...are you mad at me?” Kaminari asked, “I’m sorry.”
The taller boy’s eyes widened and he shook his head ‘no’, “Of course not...I just I...I feel like a bad friend.”
“No, no,” he looked to the rest of the Bakusquad, “I can go to recovery girl if you insist. She can’t do anything though. The scars will be gone by morning anyway...and, and I can just...try to be more careful.”
Sero’s eye twitched before his mouth hung agape, “...These were...preventable?”
Kaminari laughed again, “Well, heh, yeah. They only appear when I go past my limit.”
“THEN DONT GO PAST YOUR FUCKING LIMIT,” Bakugou roared.
“I won’t....now.”
Mina tackled Kaminari in a hug.
He ignored the pain, but it didn’t stop him from hissing out once she gripped him tight. He wrapped his hands around her tightly and felt Sero and Kirishima join in. Even a reluctant Bakugou.
“If you pull something like this ever again, I’ll kill you,” Mina whispered in Kaminari’s ear and she pulled him a little closer.
“Alright, alright. I promise,” Kaminari whispered back.
