Usually whenever Kuroji started a new crossword puzzle, she first skimmed through all the hints at once. That way, she could pick out the easy ones and get those out of the way before anything else. However, this time, her eyes lingered on one hint.
Someone who changes his or her gender after birth.
Could something like that be changed so easily? Kuroji heard about people having sex change surgeries on celebrity news channels from time to time, but those were probably too expensive for the average citizen. Even if they weren’t, Kuroji couldn’t imagine going through with something like that.
Still, she would’ve loved to be anything but a girl. But that was impossible; nothing could change the way she was born. She’d just have to learn how to live with it, even if it hurt inside.
She knew she’d only get more depressed if she kept looking at that hint, so she shoved the crossword puzzle book under her bed and out of sight. Who would even put such a ridiculous word in there anyway?
