This is what happens when I listen to my spanish bops playlist for too long. I start getting ideas and boom here we are.

The three songs mentioned:

Work Text:

It’s a regular Saturday, and just like every other Saturday since he can remember, Sero wakes up and starts cleaning. He doesn’t have to wake as early as he did back when he was living with his mom and dad, but even with the new found freedom the habit is still ingrained in him.

He gets out of his bed and stretches. Slips out of his Spiderman themed pjs and puts on an old tee and a ruined pair of sweats. He ties his hair in a bun, drinks some water and does some yoga, before heading to the kitchen for breakfast. When he finishes, he makes sure he cleans everything nice and proper just like his parents taught him.

Once he returns to his room, he pulls out his laptop and turns on the tunes.

Selena plays softly through the air as he mills about his room, throwing dirty clothes and sheets into his hamper, remaking his bed with clean ones. He leans down and pulls out a bucket full of cleaning supplies, some pledge some lysol wipes, a swifter, and gets to work. He makes a mental checklist of what needs to get done. His little bathroom needs to be wiped down and mopped, the balcony needs sweeping, the windows and mirrors need wiping and he should definitely vacuum his rug.

He picks up his manga from the floor next to his bed and places them back on his shelf. The playlist changes and Píntame comes on and Sero can’t help but sway to the song. It had always been one of his favorites growing up because his mom would get distracted and dance with him instead of making him sweep the kitchen or pick up his toys.

So he danced and continued putting away his manga, a little more movement in his step than before. After all, a little merengue never hurt anybody, least of all him. He was so entranced by the music and dancing that he failed to hear the door open. It’s not until the song ended and Sero was mentally giving himself a high five that he heard someone clear their throat.

Sero whips his head around and sees Bakugou leaning against his door frame, arms crossed over his chest and an infuriatingly smug look on his face.

“Didn’t know you could move like that, duct tape.” The blond teases, a mischievous glint in his crimson eyes. Fuck, that should be illegal. The taller boy rolls his eyes and hopes the other didn’t catch him staring too long.

“Are you jealous? I can teach you.” He teases back, a smirk gracing his own features. Bakugou scoffs and enters his room completely, closing the door behind him.

“Maybe some other time. I actually came here to borrow your toilet cleaner. I ran out and you’re the only one I know who actually cleans in this shit hole.” He barks out, but Sero likes to believe there’s a fondness in his tone.

“Um, sure dude. Give me a minute.” He says, not all that surprised the teen is cleaning. From the few months he’s known the explosive blond, he’s learned that most of the time he’s all bark and relatively no bite. He’s probably the most domestic feral person Sero has ever met, but it’s weirdly endearing.

He walks into his bathroom and makes a show off looking for his toilet cleaner under his sink, hoping his red cheeks would go down. This is what my life has come to. Cool. After a minute or two he deems it safe enough to leave his small sanctuary. The faster he gave Bakugou the cleaner the faster he could scream into his pillow and then finish cleaning.

“Alright here you go-”

“Why can’t I understand what they’re saying?” Sero blinks. And then he blinks again before the question fully processes in his brain.

“What?”

“Your music, I don’t understand any of it. What are they saying?” Bakugo asks and he’s squinting at Sero’s laptop as if it’ll help him decipher what is being said. The taller boy can’t help but laugh at the question, then laugh a bit more when he realizes what is playing.

“Well, right now Bad Bunny is saying that your shark has arrived.” He says, watching the blond scrunch up his face.

“What the fuck?” At the blond’s incredulous expression, he simply shrugs.

“It’s Spanish, dude.” He continued, before handing him the toilet cleaner. The other accepted the cleaner, but made no move to leave. Instead, he kept looking at his laptop as if waiting for answers. Sero raised an eyebrow as he watched the other.

“You okay, Bakugo-”

“Did your mom teach you? Spanish, I mean. Do you speak it?” The blond asked suddenly, jarring Sero a bit.

“Um, yeah. Well, she tried. Mom works in finances downtown, so she’s busy. But she always made it a point to play music and watch tv shows and movies in Spanish when I was little.” Sero said, sighing at the memory of watching some of his mom’s more eccentric shows.

“She spoke a lot at home too. And when I was around six or seven they found a class I could take with some other kids. Dad encouraged it, but I think that had more to do with him trying to upkeep his Spanish.” He laughed a bit, fondly remembering his dad helping him with his spanish homework.

Bakugou had his entire body facing him now, focusing all his attention on him. Sero felt his cheeks heat up again at the other’s heavy gaze. God, I feel like Midoriya when Uraraka compliments him.

“Your dad speaks it, too?” He continued on. Was he sweating right now?

“Oh yeah. That was one of my mom’s requests when they started dating. She dedicated a lot of time to learning Japanese for my dad and she expected him to show the same effort. The majority of my mom’s family speak Spanish, so her thing was that for her to be with him, he needed to learn to interact with her family.”

Bakugou nodded and Sero was suddenly super self conscious. He never considered himself to be a nervous guy. Chill and laid back was his motto. No need to overreact to a situation, lest you want to escalate it. No need to fill awkward silences, just embrace them. Hakuna Matata and all that.

Except, no one really had asked about his family before. At least, not with any real intention of learning about him or them. He’d mention he spoke Spanish and people would take it at face value, but wouldn’t press past that.

Of course, now he had a hot, gorgeous classmate staring into his soul and picking him apart. The longer ruby irises stripped him apart the more bare he felt. Exposed. His stomach was in knots. He needed to look away from the other’s gaze, distract him, fill the silence. Fucking something.

“I always thought that it was kind of romantic, you know? Learning a whole new way of communicating and just experiencing the world for someone you love. Really shows dedication.” Sero shared, shrugging and shoving his hands in his pockets. Suddenly the socks he had on were extremely interesting. Oh god, why did I mention romance.

“Romantic, huh?” The blond said softly, more to himself than anything. Sero resisted the urge to groan because of course that was the part he got stuck on. I have never needed to be so high so badly.

“How’d they meet?”

“School.” He rushed out, before realizing he should elaborate. “Mom was studying abroad for her business degree and dad was working on his behavioral science degree. They shared an elective, some Japanese art history class. The rest is history, I guess.” God, if you’re listening I promise I’ll stop shoving cat memes under Todoroki’s door. Please just release me from this hell, please, oh please.

“That is kind of romantic. My mom just bullied my dad into getting married. He enjoys it though, so no complaints here.” The blond mused.

Sero finally looked up to find Bakugo staring straight at him with an unreadable expression. He felt his breath catch in his throat and then the other boy was smirking. Oh fuck.

“Thanks for the cleaner, Sero.” He said smoothly, holding the product up. Sero could only nod dumbly as the other teen sauntered out of his room. He said my name. He knows, oh God he knows!

When the door had closed, the taller teen let out a strangled noise before flopping onto his bed face first. There’s no way it was healthy for his face to feel this hot. He shoved his face into his pillow and let out a scream. He needed to text Kaminari. Or Kirishima. Fuck, he needed Mina in a situation like this.

Sero sighed and shoved his phone further under the pillow. He couldn’t text any of his friends until he stopped fucking blushing.

How was he supposed to look at Bakugou now? He’s Sero Hanta, a chill laid back guy. He doesn’t get nervous. He’s the sounding board to all of the bakusquad’s dumbest ideas. He’s funny and hardworking, but he doesn’t blush or get crushes on buff blondes with volatile personalities and pretty faces and even prettier eyes.

And yet, here he was, screaming into his pillow like a schoolgirl.

He didn’t even think of Bakugou that way until today. Sure, he was hot and super strong, but so was their entire class. It’s not because he’s friends with him either. He’s friends with Kirishima, Kaminari, and Mina and his heart doesn’t start beating erratically when he sees them. Plus his friends are hot, seriously, who wouldn’t be attracted to any of them?

What made Bakugou so different?

He’d gotten to know the other teen better now that they were all stuck living together. He was still loud and willing to fight anyone who looked at him wrong, but he was almost nice. He’d help people in the kitchen, even if he complained about their chopping skills and inability to season correctly. He was always willing to spar and train with them despite calling them extras.

The biggest thing Sero realized during their time living together was how observant the blond boy was. Sero didn’t really think much of it at first, the way Bakugou seemed to always pay attention. When he wasn’t on a rampage he was quiet, kept to himself, but always aware of everything that was happening.

Whenever they hung out and the blond was on his phone, Sero would sometimes catch him pausing whatever he was doing when Kirishima mentioned missing his mom’s cooking or when Mina would mention a new store that opened that she was interested in checking out.

A few days later, he’d find Bakugou cooking something similar to Kirishima’s favorite food, or he’d announce he was going to a store near the one Mina mentioned and make a big show of complaining when Mina demanded she tag along. Why couldn’t I like someone less emotionally constipated?

Sero laughed silently to himself, before turning to his side to stare at his Snorlax plushie.

“You think having a crush on Bakugou is a bad idea, buddy?” He asked in a small voice, sighing when the plushie didn’t answer.

The tall boy grabbed his pillow and hugged it close to himself. I feel like a protagonist in a shoujo manga. Then again, since they were both male, it might be a BL manga. What would Haruhi do?

Suddenly Sero sat up and shook his head. Today was Saturday for fuck’s sake. He should be having fun, meeting up with his friends, and offering movie ideas for movie night. Not wallowing in his bed thinking about a crush like the end of the world. Besides, if this crush was like any of his other crushes it would disappear within the next two weeks.

With that settled, Sero got up and finished cleaning his room, texting Kaminari plans to meet up for lunch and maybe sneak into Mina’s room for some much needed gossip and edibles.

He smiled. Who knows, maybe he could get Bakugou to crush on him.
