Chapter Text
It was all over the news, Decay had been defeated. After the mass destruction it had caused in the Mufasa region, houses had been destroyed. The attack had been unknown to the pro heros. There was no time to plan for an evacuation. It was the worst mass casualties that had ever been documented. Houses had flattened other houses in a domino effect as their foundations corroded away. Many had died. Many injured. Numbers were unknown.
Exhaustion waved through Shinso. Sirens hadn’t stopped sounding since 11pm yesterday. It was now 5am the next day, and he hadn’t stopped. He hadn’t stopped to drink a coffee or to go to the toilet. His feet were sore but then he would realise that these people that came through the ER were in more pain, so he would ignore the slight numbness of his feet and continue to help patients in whatever way that he could. Because for mass casualties, this was bad. There was no time to stop. No moment to breath. It was move. Move. Move. Keep seeing patients. Keep saving lives. No time for any personal issues. The patient was all that mattered.
He blinked away his exhaustion and rushed over to the next gurney that was wheeled through the ER. Three paramedics were on the male in the gurney. Shinso took a moment to look at the male. Even with blood caked in his blonde hair and his eyes were closed, he was handsome. He was incredibly handsome. There were lacerations over his arms, on his face and down his legs. The cuts were deep and there were many of them. Not only were they deep, they also were wide, stretching over a lot of his skin. Shinso feared that the cuts would scar his beautiful skin.
One of his legs was bent wrong. Definitely broken. His left hand was slightly grey in colour, like the blood had been drained. It looked cold. Shinso wanted to touch his hand, to warm it up. But he refrained from doing so.
There was a mask over his face and one of the paramedics was squeezing the purple bottle to help him breath. The paramedics were shouting at him. Found unconscious in the field. Arm had been affected by Decay’s quirk. He was hypotensive. They shouted his heart rate to him which he noted. It was unstable. He had been intubated on site, as evident by the purple bottle in his mouth.
Shinso listened to the paramedics relay what was wrong with the patient. With a quirk turn of his head, he saw an empty trauma room “Trauma room 5,” he called. He grabbed hold of the gurney and steered the bed into the room he previously called. The paramedics had left him, leaving him and another intern, Monma Neito, to wheel the incredibly handsome male into the room. Other nurses joined him and moved him to the other bed on the count of three.
Shinso had taken over with the oxygen bag while Monoma looked over his body. Shinso changed the purple bottle to a ventilation machine that was hooked up to the bed. “Let’s get him a MRI scan to see his legs,” Shinso had called out. He checked over his hand. It was cold. “We need to see to his hand. Decay has touched him,” Decay’s quirk was deadly. The effects of it were slow. It was hard to tell. His quirk was like a parasite. It destroyed everything in its path. Slowly but violently.
Shinso rushed and grabbed a needle that could take blood. He took the blood from the incredibly handsome John Doe and asked it to be worked by another intern who didn’t seem busy.
“That's his blood. Make a Decay anti-virus,” he ordered. The other intern rushed away in the middle of the mass casualties. The male was wearing black trouser, a white t-shirt with a black jacket covering him. He looked to see if he had any ID in his trouser pocket. As he touched his clothes, he let out a gasp as an electric shock raced through him. He jumped back from the pain.
“Stop! Don’t touch the patient” Shinso gasped out. “His skin is burning with electricity. It might be his quirk. Can we push 10 mils of Quirk Suppressors,” Shinso called out. He was certain that when he took the blood earlier there hadn't been any electricity coursing through his body. Monama touched the male’s hand, pain shooting into his arm.
“Confirmed. His quirk is electricity based,” Monama gasped, cradling his sore hand. Shinso appreciated his best friend's quirk. He liked that it could confirm if using quirk suppressors were necessary on a person. He could copy a person's quirk and he could have a brief understanding of that person's quirk. These suppressors were used to prevent dangerous quirks such as electricity, from hurting both the patient and the doctors. It blocked quirks like if Pro Hero’s Eraserhead had been in the room, doing the work itself.
“Shinso. Shindo. Monama Take our John Doe to Radiology,” his resident called from the door of Trauma room 5. Shinso looked to his evil resident, Dr Keigo, who stood there with his blonde hair swept back, his pristine white coat, over his dark blue scrubs. He looked well rested. Shinso grabbed an edge of the gurney and began to lead it to the lifts with his best friend and Shindo who wasn’t a bad guy and was fairly easy to get along with.
Radiology was on the third floor. The three interns wheeled the gurney to the lift and pressed the button for the lift to come. Shinso didn’t like the quiet in the lift. He enjoyed quiet and time to think, but being in a lift with two others, made him a little uncomfortable. “So I heard you yelling in the breakroom. Was it Hatori?” Shindo asked. Shinso’s stomach dropped at that question. He didn’t really speak to Shindo too much. Yes, they were interns together and they spent many hours together. Shinso wasn’t eager to speak to Shindo about his love life but why not. It was better than the silence.
“Yes,” Shinso grumbled. He wanted to say that he was tired and that was the reason for his colourful language. But his boyfriend had been insufferable recently. Maybe it was the stress from his own work that made him so angry all the time. Or the lack of their sexual drive. Whatever it was, the two males were not in a great place at the moment.
“Want to talk about it?” Shindo asked. Shinso looked down at the patient before him who was sleeping peacefully in the bed. Maybe peace wasn’t a correct statement. He was out cold. He was probably out because of the trauma he had sustained due to his injuries. He did not want to talk about his failing relationship with Shindo. Shindo was a good guy. A great doctor. He could trust him, but he just wasn’t in the mood to discuss his relationship. The recent conversation about the lack of milk in the fridge left him exhausted.
He was thankful when the doors to the lift opened up. The three males wheeled John Doe into Radiography, room 1. The MRI room had two parts.. The room where the MRI machine was and the other half of the room was where the doctors stood as the MRI machine was on. The MRI machine was a large machine that was like a cylinder in which a patient would lie on a flatbed and would be swallowed into the machine, not even their feet exposed.
Shinso, moved the beautiful John Doe onto the bed. Radiology was quiet. The technician was behind the large screen where the monitor was. Shinso liked when he gave a patient an MRI, not because of the problem with the patient, but for a few minutes, he could enjoy the silence. He could enjoy the silence and the hum of the machine. He could be alone with his thoughts. He could think. He could think about other issues. A medical procedure. What he would do about his failing relationship. That was the biggest issue that plagued his mind, his boyfriend. It wasn’t like the lifts, he didn’t have to have small talk in here. He could just think.
Shinso and Shindo stepped out as the machine swallowed John Doe and they stood beside the technician, a male in his late fifties, who had large bifocals and pepper coloured hair. They waited quietly until the scans came up. When the picture of his body showed up, they were shocked to see all the issues. Not only was his leg fractured in many pieces, his heart, lungs, kidneys and liver all glowed, like a glow stick had been cracked in his body.
“Holy shit!” Shindo called. “How does he have so much organ failure?” Shinso grabbed his phone that sat in his pocket and phoned his Resident after getting pictures of the males conditions.
“It looks damaged? Is it because of his quirk? Electricity? Has his electricity caused this? If Electricity struck us like that it could destroy our bodies. Maybe he used a higher voltage today and his body gave out?” Shinso suggested looking at the information. The others agreed to this.
“Alright, can we page Dr Yusuke. He will need to see this?” Shinso some days hated being an intern. The grunt work, the getting of the labs or the coffee. Well those tasks usually came from Dr Keigo and not Dr Yusuke. Yusuke was good to his interns and Shinso wished he was with Dr Yusuke and not Keigo.
Shinso walked back to get John Doe and got him out of the MRI bed and to his transporter bed. He led him to one of the pre-op rooms on the 5th floor. Shindo helped him, following beside him. The silence returned, neither of them speaking.
Shinso and Shindo put the male into the room and nurses got him changed into a hospital gown and let him sleep. Dr Yusuke showed up with a chart and walked over to “I’m going to get some sleep. Maybe a coffee. If you need me, page me,” Shinso called, walking away from them.
He headed to the locker room, grabbed his phone where he saw that it was 8 in the morning. He took a seat on the bench, he had missed calls. The locker room was for mainly interns. Residence had their own lushes space with an actual sofa and a coffee machine. While the locker room for the interns resembled that of a high school gym with just rows and rows of lockers and wooden benches separating the lockers.
The missed calls were from his dad and from Hatori. “Shinso...with the Decay incident. We need you to stay. After your nap, we need you to scrub in on a craniotomy. Shindo will be trying to get information on your John Doe. Monama will be covering your patients. Can you stay for a little longer?” Shinso looked up to see Dr Yusuke standing at the doorway. Shinso looked to Dr Yusuke. He was only recently attending. Maybe three years of being an attending. He was under thirty. He had lush dark hair that was usually in a quiff.
“I would be honored to scrub in on a craniotomy. I just need some caffeine,” Yusuke nodded and walked out of the locker room. Shinso grabbed his phone and sent a text.
Hitoshi: The hospital needs me because of the Decay incident. Sorry x
Shinso lay down on the bench and shut his eyes.
Was numbness a feeling? Could someone feel numb? Was that a thing? His legs were numb and his arm was very numb. As he opened his eyes, the white lights burned his retinas. He turned his head to hide from the burning bright lights. There were more lights when he turned. Tears filled in his eyes. His head was thrumming a little. Did he over use his quirk again?
“You are awake,” someone was in his room. He opened an eye, regardless of the burning that it caused. “I am Doctor Shinso. You are in the Mufasa General. You were in an accident due to the Decay attack,” the male stated. While Kaminari’s eyes were sore from waking up, the man before him was beautiful. He was tall, with broad shoulders. His age, roughly 24 years old. He had dark purple hair that stuck out from all ends. His skin was pale but he had the most incredible eyes he had ever seen. They were a soft lilac. He looked good in his baby blue scrubs. He was incredibly hot. He looked to his biceps and was impressed by what he saw. He also liked his scruff on his face. It was slightly darker than his hair. It looked about 1 month unshaven. There were slight patches of more hair in certain areas, most concentrated on his jaw line. He looked good.
“I know,” his voice was sore. His mouth was dry. He wasn’t even sure if someone had heard him. He repeated his words, coughing a little. The doctor walked closer to him. At his right hand side there was a jug of water and a small plastic cup. The incredibly hot doctor, poured water in the small beige cup and handed it to him, putting a straw into the cup and Kaminari took a sip, feeling better after he sipped the water. It quenched his dry throat, like a flood in the desert.
Dr Shinso reached down to touch his hand, “You had shattered your leg,” Kaminari looked down, he had a blanket over him. He moved the blanket and saw his leg in a large white cast. He saw his toes sticking out of the cast. It looked grim. “You have a metal plate in your leg right now. But we have found that you have organ failure in your lungs, heart, kidneys and liver. You are on a bypass to keep these functions active. I am really sorry. John Doe...is there someone we can call for you?” Kaminari stared at the hot doctor, his eyebrows furrowed together. Did they think he was someone else?
“John Doe?” he had to ask.
“Shit sorry. Sorry” Shinso gasped as he swore in front of a patient. “We don’t know your name. You have been John Doe all night to us. It was a force of habit. I apologise,” Kaminari liked the way Shinso got all bashful at this, the fact that he swore and called him the wrong name.
“Denki Kaminari. Or Stun Gun Hero: Chargebolt,” he introduced himself, his hand stretching out. He noticed that he had a needle in his hand. Shinso shook his hand. He liked the way his hand took his own. His hand was a lot larger than his own. He wished he could hold his hand a little longer and for some reason, he didn’t let him go. He was staring at him, his mouth slightly agape.
“Y-Y-You’re the number four hero,” Shinso stammered.
“And I was the only hero to take down Decay,” Shinso wouldn’t stop staring at him. He stepped back and slowly backed out of the room. “Dr Yusuke...Shindo...Monama,” Shinso called. Kaminari lay his head back on the pillow, his eyes slowly closing again. He did watch as three other doctors walked into the room. He recognised Monama. He went to school with him, but he was too tired to act like he recognised him. Monama looked very similar, from high school. He still had blue eyes and very blonde hair. It was parted differently now. It used to be scruffy. It was now long on the top with a soft undercut. His jaw was sharper than it used to be. He also used to have a mischievous look in his eyes but now it seemed a lot softer.
The other younger male, was also rather handsome. He had brown hair, which was fairly shaggy. He had it pulled back with a hair band which was blue. All three males had blue scrubs on. The other male in the room had darker blue scrubs on and a white coat on. He was older than the other males, but was still young and had the dark hair.
“Kaminari Denki is awake,” Shinso said. “Can we also have on his chart that he is also known as Stungun Hero: Chargebolt,” Kaminari liked how Shinso smiled at him. The three doctors walked over to him and each took their hands and thanked him. Kaminari didn’t know what that meant. Why was he being thanked? He just wanted to close his eyes and sleep.
“Why are you thanking me? You are the ones saving my life,” he reached for his beige water cup and knocked it over by mistake. Shinso was at his side in a second and picked up the spilt water and filled the cup up and held the straw to his mouth as he took a drink.
Dr Yusuke stepped closer to him and put a hand onto his shoulder, “You saved our life first. It’s all over the news. Decay was taken down by Chargebolt. Chargebolt saved 1000 lives, his whereabouts are unknown,” Dr Yusuke reiterated what had been said on the news. Something that he had been heard multiple times so far. Chargebolt had saved 100 lives. “1000 lives saved because of Chargebolt, casualties unknown, losses unknown,”
“How many losses so far?” Kaminari asked. He could remember the little girl he had saved. She was screaming for her mum. Her leg was broken. Decay had his hands all over her. She was screaming. Kaminari had electrocuted the guy with his left hand. He looked to his left hand where the needle was. His hand was numb. He didn’t realise how cold it looked. He didn’t realise how bad it was. He tried to move his fingers, but he failed.
“From this hospital alone, we lost 18 people. 89 are still in hospital. 48 have been discharged?”
“There was a little girl. Blonde. Skinny. Red eyes,” Kaminari asked. Dr Yusuke, squeezed his shoulder, shaking his head. Kaminari bowed his head at this. A tear in his eyes. He wanted to save lives and he had failed. He had saved 1000 lives but he had lost 18. If he had been Dynamight - the number 1 hero, or Deku - the number two hero, or IcyHot - the number three hero, they would have saved everyone. He was not good enough. He took a deep breath and looked to Dr Yusuke.
“Can you call Kirishima for me?” Kaminari asked. He didn’t have anyone but his best friend. He needed him. He thought about having his guardian here but at this moment, he needed his best friend, the number five hero.
“Who’s Kirishima?” Dr Yusuke asked, his voice was quiet.
“Kirishima Eijirou. The number five hero,” Shinso stated, looking at his chart. Kaminari looked to Shinso with shock. How did his doctor know information about his life? How did he know that Kirishima was the number five hero. Only some knew that the name Kirishima was the fifth hero. Everyone knew him as Red Riot.
He asked for more water and Shinso put down his chart, walked over to the water and brought it to his lips. He sipped the water gratefully, some water dribbling down his chin. His hand felt like lead. It was heavy. He didn’t realise how heavy it was until he was trying to lift his hand to wipe his chin. He tried to wipe his chin but he just couldn’t and he hung his head in shame and lay back in the bed and moved his head to wipe the water on the pillow.
He watched as Shinso went into his left trouser pocket and pulled out his phone and was sending a text. “Shinso you shouldn’t be texting right now,” Dr Yusuke said in a low voice. Kaminari eyed Shinso. He already had trust in Shinso. Maybe it was because he was very hot. He was putting trust on him because he was good looking. Kaminari was certain his brain wasn’t working. Wait no...it was the only organ that seemed to be working? He looked to his doctors. He needed to ask about that.
“I am trying to get Kirishima here,” Shinso said simply, his head still in his phone. Kaminari sat up at this. He knew Kirishima? This doctor, this very hot, scrumptious doctor, knew Kirishima.
“Y-You know Kirishima?” Kaminari stuttered. Shinso looked up to him, with a smile, and shook his head, his lips pressed into a line. He was very handsome.
“Not personally. I do have connections however,” Kamianri closed his eyes. He was exhausted. His quirk, the fighting. He was exhausted. His eyes fluttered shut but he looked to Shinso who was showing a text to Dr Yusuke. “He’s been contacted.”
Kaminari watched with hooded eyes as Dr Yusuke walked over, “We need to talk about what we saw on your scans. Your organs, you are unwell…” Kaminari found that fighting against his exhaustion was too tiring and in the end his exhaustion won.
