Work Text:
Yoongi knew that he was letting his work consume him, but he didn’t mind. He liked what he did. He was a well-known music producer, who went by Suga.
Jimin would always laugh and say that his nickname never truly suited him, but Yoongi didn’t care. He didn’t mind spending day in and day out in the studio working on music. Yet, his late nights making music seemed to worry his friends.
Thus, prompting their little intervention today.
Yoongi had just sat down at the table after he grabbed his coffee from the barista. Yoongi stopped mid-sip when he saw his friends staring at him. He cocked an eyebrow at them, as if he was daring them to say something to him. He placed his cup on the table and looked at each of his friends, wondering which one was going to be the brave soul to tell him why they were staring at him as if they were sorry for him.
Jungkook squirmed in Taehyung’s arms, clearly uneasy about this. Namjoon looked to Jin, who was staring back at him. It seemed that both of them were silently telling the other to speak.
Jimin, who was caught in the middle of the two couples, decided that he was going to be the one to break the ice. Jimin cleared his throat, causing the couples to break from each other’s gazes to focus on Yoongi.
Jimin smiled sweetly and broke the ice for everyone, “Yoongi hyung, we can’t help but notice that you’re spending an awful lot of time in the studio. We love your music, hyung, we really do. But you know what we would love for you?”
“I’d love for you to just spit it out already.”
“You need a partner.”
“Namjoon’s my music partner.”
“You dense mother f-“
Jungkook clasped a hand over Jimin’s mouth and smiled nervously to his hyung, “What Jimin hyung is trying to say is that you need a significant other. You need a lover. You need someone to spend time with outside of us. You need someone who can bring you out of the studio and help you relax. We can’t do that for you, hyung. We think you should try looking for someone again.”
Yoongi rolled his eyes at his friends. He crossed his arms as he replied harshly, “Are you all forgetting how my last relationship failed because they couldn’t deal with the fact that I’m in the studio late at night? There’s not a single person out there who understands why I do what I do and why I stay so late. I’m passionate about what I do and I haven’t found a single person who can understand that.”
“Look, hyung,” Namjoon began with a soft smile, “we just don’t want you to wind up alone down the road. If you don’t start looking now… or even try looking now then you might just be alone for the rest of your life. Do you really want to be alone?”
“What’s so bad about being alone?”
Namjoon looked to Jin, prompting him to continue for him. Jin rolled his eyes at his lover before turning his attention to Yoongi, “There’s good things about being alone, but life’s a whole lot better when you’ve got someone by your side. Life’s sweeter when you’ve got someone to enjoy it with.”
Yoongi stuck his tongue out, pretending to throw up. Taehyung laughed at his hyung and empathized with him, “I know how you feel, hyung. I had the same thought process as you until I met Jungkookie. I thought I was better off on my own but then when he came stumbling into my life… everything just made sense. I agree with Jin hyung, life’s sweeter when you’ve got someone to enjoy it with.”
All this talk of sweetness was starting to give Jimin an idea. He was quiet, which was starting to raise some concern with his friends. Jimin just needed a minute to think this through.
If this plan worked, then Yoongi wouldn’t be alone anymore. If this plan failed, then Yoongi would be a mess. Jimin chuckled, Yoongi would be a mess regardless if the plan worked or not. Yet, this plan was better than no plan so Jimin knew he had to take a shot.
Jimin let out a deep breath he didn’t know he was holding. He smiled as he said, “Look, all this talk of sweetness has got me thinking about this delicious little bakery by the studio. You ever heard of the Little Ray of Sunshine bakery? It’s got every kind of pastry and dessert you could ever think of!”
“I assume there’s a point to you telling us this?”
“Shush, Yoongi hyung, I’m talking!”
Everyone shook their heads at Jimin. The younger male had a mischievous look in his eyes as he continued, “Yeah, so you need a little sweetness in your life so why don’t you take baby steps? Why don’t you start with going to the bakery and getting yourself something sweet? You can’t call yourself Suga if you don’t have something sweet and sugary every now and then, right?”
“If I go to the bakery will you all leave me alone?”
“You have my word.”
“Oh, thank God.”
“Just promise us you’ll try?”
“Fine, I’ll try.”
Well, that was like pulling teeth. They all sighed in relief when Yoongi left the café, allowing them the chance to talk about what just happened.
Jin gave a skeptical look to Jimin, “What are you plotting, Jimin? You were pushing this bakery on him for some reason, so spill it. Why do you want him to go to that Little Ray of Sunshine place? I assume you have a plan.”
Jimin most definitely had a plan, but he couldn’t let the others in on it. Knowing them, they would find a way to soil it. Jimin would tell them eventually but right now it was for the better that they didn’t know what he was scheming.
Jimin took a sip of his tea, to which Taehyung called meme worthy. Jimin was smiling from ear to ear at this point.
“The plan is already in motion.”
Yoongi had never been to a bakery before so he didn’t know why he was humoring Jimin by going to one. He stood outside the bakery, taking in its appearance. It was an orange-colored building, which was very different compared to the cool toned buildings neighboring it.
Yoongi had to blink a few times to take in the vibrant color. He looked up to stare at the sign. It was a long white sign with beautiful yellow cursive.
Little Ray of Sunshine
Yoongi never thought he would be caught dead at a place like this, but here he was. He always thought he was too edgy and cold, so this bakery was about to ruin his reputation. Yoongi sighed, he owed it to Jimin to do this. All he had to do was go into the bakery and get something sweet and then he would never have to come back again.
It could be real quick.
Just get in, order something, and then leave so he could go back to the studio to make music. He took a deep breath and opened the door. He didn’t know what he was expecting, but he certainly wasn’t expecting to hear the sweetest voice singing.
There is no upper hand, I’m giving you mine.
It doesn’t have to end up wasting your time.
That voice was the most beautiful sound Yoongi had ever heard. He was still stuck in the doorway, not wanting to close the door in fear that it would alert the other male to his presence and cause him to stop. Yoongi’s eyes widened as he finally caught a glimpse of the mystery singer.
There was no door to the bakery in the back so Yoongi was able to see him. He had luscious light brown locks that bounced as he moved. Yoongi could only see him from behind, but he thought he was gorgeous.
There’s things that I could say,
But hear it my way.
Finally, the other male turned around and Yoongi was sure his heart was pounding like a drum loud enough for this boy to hear it. His eyes were barely open, more focused on singing the song than putting the frosting on the cake he was making.
He had stunning honey toned skin and his eyes were the same color as a chocolate bar. Yoongi didn’t know when his jaw had dropped but it did. He closed his mouth and continued to let himself be enchanted by the little baker.
I want to let you know that it’s all okay…
Yoongi could hear the other male humming the rest of the song as he finished frosting the cake. He needed to talk to that baker without it being blatantly obvious that he was just listening to him sing.
Yoongi quietly stepped out of the bakery. He backtracked so he could make it look like he was just entering the bakery. Yoongi was hoping he looked smooth as he walked into the bakery, stepping loudly so the other make would be alerted to his presence.
“Oh! Welcome to Little Ray of Sunshine!”
Shit, his smile took the shape of a heart and it was stunning. Yoongi was frozen as he stared back at the other male. He watched as the baker stepped out of the back and smiled at him. He was dressed in a white shirt with black skinny jeans and a precious little pastel blue apron over his clothes. There was a little bit of flour on his face, but he was quick to wipe it away with the back of his hand. The baker tilted his head in confusion.
“Can I help you with anything today, sir?”
“Uh, I’ve never been to a bakery before.”
“Come here! Come here! Let me help you!”
That bright smile was back on his face as Yoongi approached the glass counter. Yoongi gazed in wonder at all the sweet treats on display in front of him. There were treats of all kinds here from cookies all the way to mooncakes.
Yoongi’s eyes were flashing from one treat to the other wondering what would be good for him. He looked up and eyed the baker, silently deciding that he would be good for him. Yoongi’s eyes widened when he caught the other male’s name tag.
Hoseok.
Hoseok could tell that Yoongi’s mind was running a mile a minute right now. He reached out and grabbed Yoongi’s hand with a smile, “I know this must be overwhelming for you so don’t think about all these goodies I have on display, alright? Let’s get a feel for what you like and then we can figure out what might be good for you. Does that sound good, sir?”
“Sir makes me sound like an old businessman.”
“What should I call you then?”
“Yoongi. Min Yoongi.”
“Yoongi, huh? I’m Jung Hoseok.”
The hand Hoseok was holding moved so that they were shaking hands. Hoseok had a blush on his face as he pulled his hand away, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Yoongi. Uh, where were we? Oh! Okay, so tell me! What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream? What’s your go to flavor when you get ice cream?”
“I guess vanilla.”
Yoongi was surprised when he heard Hoseok giggling. Hoseok covered his mouth with his hands to stifle his laughter.
Yoongi eyes the baker, questioning playfully, “What are you giggling about? You’re the one who told me to say what my favorite flavor is! If vanilla’s so funny, what’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?”
“Mint chocolate chip.”
“Ah, so you like toothpaste?”
Hoseok couldn’t hide his laughter any longer. He removed his hand and threw his head back as he laughed. Yoongi couldn’t help but give a gummy smile as he drank in the beautiful sound of Hoseok’s laugh.
Hoseok’s laugh was loud and obnoxious, but Yoongi adored it. He loved the way it filled the entire room. Yoongi couldn’t help but think that Hoseok was what made this bakery a little ray of sunshine.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry,” Hoseok started to compose himself, “fair enough, I shouldn’t have laughed at vanilla when I basically eat toothpaste. Although, I’d like to compare mint chocolate chip ice cream to that of those little chocolates that the waiter leaves on the table after dinner at Olive Garden. You know what I’m talking about right? You definitely know!”
Yoongi thought this man was too adorable for his own good. He shook his head as he replied with a smile, “Okay, I know what you’re talking about and as crazy as it sounds, I can see where you’re coming from with that logic. But still, if I was eating vanilla ice cream and I took a lick of yours it would completely ruin the taste of my vanilla because all I could taste is mint!”
“Mint chocolate chip is not for the faint of heart.”
“Or for those who want to keep their taste buds.”
Yoongi couldn’t help but think that his laughter combined with Hoseok’s made the sweetest melody he had ever heard. It was like when you heard your favorite song on the radio. You don’t want it to end. You just want to listen to that song as long as possible because you know when it’s over, you’ll be upset and yearning for more. That’s how it felt to Yoongi when he heard their laughter harmonizing with each other.
“You’re getting me off track, Yoongi!”
“One more off topic question.”
“Okay, bring it on!”
“God, you sound like you’re ready to fight!”
The two of them burst into laughter. Hoseok was laughing as he playfully pretended to punch Yoongi, who faked being hit each time. Yoongi couldn’t remember the last time it was this easy to connect with someone new.
Everyone else he had ever talked to made him want to withdraw, but not Hoseok. Hoseok made him want to break out of his shell and become a better version of himself, a happier Yoongi.
“Okay, sorry, sorry, ask away, Yoongi!”
“How old are you?”
Hoseok gave him a suspicious look, causing Yoongi to wonder if he crossed the line with that question.
His doubts washed away the minute Hoseok smiled, “I’m twenty-four but sometimes I still get asked if I want a kid’s menu at restaurants because I look younger than I actually am. Honestly, I should be insulted when they hand me a kid’s menu, but I’d have to be an idiot not to want a grilled cheese for dinner.”
“Or a cheap ass dinner.”
“That too! Wait, how old are you?”
“Twenty-five, so I’m your hyung.”
“My hyung? My Yoongi hyung?”
Hoseok was blushing as he looked away, trying to avoid Yoongi’s gaze. Truthfully, Yoongi liked the way “My Yoongi hyung” sounded coming off Hoseok’s tongue. It made Yoongi feel like he belonged to someone. It scared him how much he was starting to like Hoseok, but he wanted to run with this. He wanted to see where things went with Hoseok, granted if Hoseok wanted to go anywhere with him.
The baker finally brought his eyes back to Yoongi’s. A lightbulb looked like it popped above his head as he exclaimed, “Oh! I remember what I was going to do! Your favorite flavor of ice cream is vanilla so you might like something like a sugar cookie, you know? Something that isn’t jam packed with flavor. Oh, no, wait! I know! Wait here, I’m going to get something for you to try!”
Hoseok whipped around and ran into the back of the bakery. Yoongi couldn’t help but smile as a sweet scent wafted through the air. He could hear sounds coming from the back. It was almost like Hoseok had just taken something out of the oven. Yoongi had a gummy smile on his face as Hoseok walked over to him with a plate of moon shaped treats.
Yoongi watched as Hoseok breathed in the scent of the sweets and smiled, “There’s magic in these mooncakes, Yoongi hyung. I know mooncakes are mostly for the Mid-Autumn festival, but I’ve got a feeling that these special little guys will knock you off your feet. They’re sweet but it’s the filling on the inside that’ll get you. Here, try one, hyung.”
“Shouldn’t I pay for-“
“This is on the house.”
He wanted to object, but Hoseok was shoving the custard delight in his face with a warm smile. He could immediately tell that Hoseok was stubborn. He wasn’t going to take no for an answer and Yoongi didn’t have the heart to fight with him over a mooncake. He shook his head with a smile on his face. He gave in and accepted the treat.
Hoseok was grinning in anticipation as Yoongi took a bite. His eyes widened and he had to stop himself from moaning at how good the mooncake tasted. He had eaten mooncakes before, but they were nothing like this. Hoseok was right. It was sweet but it was the custard filling on the inside that nearly overwhelmed his tastebuds with the savoriest of flavors.
“Well? What do you think?”
“It’s like an orgasm in my mouth.”
Yoongi’s eyes widened, he couldn’t believe he said that. Just as he was going to explain himself, Hoseok laughed. Hoseok nearly fell to his knees laughing at what Yoongi said. He threw his head back and clapped his hands.
When he composed himself, he motioned for Yoongi to keep eating the mooncake. Yoongi devoured the mooncake without hesitation. It was the most delicious thing he had ever had, and he couldn’t help but think it tasted that much better because it was Hoseok who made it.
The baker smiled as he filled a little box with four different kinds of freshly made mooncakes, each one looking more mouth watering than the last.
Yoongi was about to pull out his wallet but Hoseok interjected, “Take these home with you and taste them, okay? There’s different flavors in here but I won’t tell you what they are! I want you to explore what flavors you like and then…”
“And then, what?”
Hoseok avoided Yoongi’s gaze as he blushed. He bit his lip before he said softly, “And then, if you want… you can come back here, and we can see what other desserts you’d like to try. But, it’s only if you want to. I don’t know if you’re into sweets like this but… but I know I’d really like to see you again, Yoongi.”
Yoongi made the bold move of reaching across the counter and putting a finger under Hoseok’s chin. He gently lifted his chin so they were looking into each other’s eyes. Hoseok’s blush seemed to deepen, and Yoongi knew he would love to keep seeing that. He knew he would love to keep seeing Hoseok. Yoongi leaned in so that they were only inches apart.
“I’d love to see you again, too.”
It was two days later that Yoongi met up with his friends in the café. He took his seat and was immediately met with five pairs of curious eyes. He knew what they were going to ask, or he knew what Jimin was going to ask. Jimin had an all-knowing look in his eyes as if he already knew what had happened. Yoongi shook his head, Jimin probably planned this.
“So, how was your trip to the bakery, hyung?”
“I bet you already know how it went.”
“Oh, I do. Hobi hyung told me everything!”
“H-Hobi hyung?”
Yoongi was about to ask more but Jimin held up a hand as he took a sip of his tea. Jimin smiled as he answered, “I had to take a shot. You’re bitter and alone. Hobi hyung is happy and alone. You two seemed like a match made in heaven so I asked you to go to the bakery so you would meet Hobi hyung. It looks like you two hit it off really well because you’re all Hobi hyung talks about!”
“Really? What does he say?”
Jimin and the others couldn’t help but giggle when they saw Yoongi leaning over the table with a desperate look in his eyes. Jimin loved seeing Yoongi like this because it was so unlike him to be this interested in someone after only meeting them once.
It was refreshing to see Yoongi so excited to know more about someone, or what someone was saying about him. He normally didn’t care about what others thought of him, but it seemed he cared an awful lot about what Hoseok thought.
“Alright, alright, I’ll tell you,” Jimin smiled, “he’s really into you, Yoongi hyung! I don’t know where he got this impression from, but he said you’re really kind and you’re funny. Not to mention, Hobi hyung says you’re really handsome! I swear, I’ve never seen him this head over heels for someone before! I hope the feeling is mutual, hyung.”
“It’s definitely mutual.”
“So, you’re going to go back to him, right?”
“Uh, yeah, I have to go back today, actually.”
“Oh? Going back so soon?”
Yoongi watched as his friends were whispering amongst each other, no doubt saying that he was whipped. He couldn’t find it in him to give a fuck about what they were saying about him. He was happy and that’s all that mattered.
Yoongi couldn’t find it in him to care, “Well, I’m going back because he gave me a box of mooncakes to try. He gave me four different kinds to try to help me figure out what kind of desserts I’m into. He asked me to come back to let him know what I thought so we could find the perfect treat for me.”
“Aish, I gotta get going.”
The five friends waved goodbye to Yoongi as he left the café. Jin turned his attention to Jimin, “So, you’re telling me one of your insane plans actually worked? You actually found someone who doesn’t think Yoongi is a grumpy cat?”
Jimin nodded enthusiastically as he sipped his tea. Jungkook leaned into Taehyung as he sighed in relief. Truth be told, they were all feeling as relieved as Jungkook was. Sure, they knew that Yoongi and Hoseok weren’t official yet, but this was a start.
It had been so long since Yoongi found someone he wanted to talk to them about. It had been so long since someone had something nice to say about Yoongi.
Everyone seemed to be happy for Yoongi, until a thought popped into Taehyung’s mind.
He looked towards Jimin as he asked, “Wait, do you think he’ll be good for Yoongi hyung? Like, do you think he’ll understand Yoongi’s busy work life? Yoongi’s work has always been what breaks his relationships.”
Namjoon could tell that Jimin was lost in his thoughts, trying to think it through. The leader of their friend group stepped in, “It might be a little early to start thinking about that, right? They just met so let’s give it some time, yeah? If he’s serious about Yoongi then he’ll understand.”
“Only time will tell.”
Yoongi had a bit of a pep in his step as he walked down the street to the bakery. He remembered how he thought the bakery was going to ruin his reputation, but now he didn’t think so. He thought the bright colors on the outside were overwhelming, but he didn’t think that way anymore. Ever since Hoseok came into his life, everything was starting to feel a little bit sweeter.
He couldn’t contain his smile as he saw the sunny colors of the Little Ray of Sunshine bakery. Yoongi peeked through the window of the bakery and made a noise of confusion when he couldn’t see Hoseok. He shrugged. He figured Hoseok was probably somewhere in the back making some more goodies. He was about to open the door, but he paused. He remembered what happened last time.
He remembered how he entered quietly and he was able to witness Hoseok singing. He smiled. He wanted to hear that beautiful voice again. He made sure he made no noise as he opened the door. He looked around for Hoseok but couldn’t find him.
Just as he was going to make his presence known, Hoseok shot across the doorway in the back. Yoongi couldn’t help but give a gummy smile when he saw Hoseok lost in his own world. He held a spoon covered with cake mix in front of his mouth, using it as a microphone.
Why can't I breathe whenever I think about you?
Why can’t I speak whenever I talk about you?
Yoongi thought Hoseok was adorable when he saw him singing two days ago, but shit, he was even more precious now. Yoongi’s was swelling with adoration as he watched Hoseok float around the bakery like he was giving a live performance on stage with his trusty mixing spoon as a microphone. Hoseok was throwing his head back and forth, tossing his hair all over the place.
It’s inevitable, it’s a fact that we’re gonna get down to it!
So, tell me!
Yoongi wanted nothing more than to applaud the younger male, or maybe even throw roses at him for his performance. Yoongi wished he could whistle for Hoseok as the little baker dropped down to his knees and held the mixing spoon with both hands. He clearly wanted to end his private show with a bang, and Yoongi loved it.
Why can’t I breathe whenever I think about you?
Whenever I think about you…
That was Yoongi’s cue to slip out of the bakery like he was never there watching. One of these days he would have to make his presence known so he could compliment Hoseok.
Yoongi was a music producer so he knew talent when he heard it, and Hoseok had talent. He figured that Hoseok wouldn’t want to record any songs, but if he wanted to provide backing vocals for Yoongi someday he wouldn’t mind that. Yoongi gave his signature gummy smile as he reentered the bakery.
“Oh! Good afternoon, Yoongi hyung!”
“Hey, Hoseok. Actually, call I call you Seok?”
“Seok? That’s a new one. I like it!”
“What’s on the menu for me today?”
Yoongi approached the counter and smiled as Hoseok thought for a moment. The little brunette’s face lit up as he asked, “Wait a minute! How were the mooncakes? Have you had a chance to take a bite of each one? I really hope you liked them!”
Hoseok really did remind Yoongi of an excited puppy, but he liked it. He nodded as he answered, “Yeah, I actually ate all four of them. I swear, you’re going to turn me into a fat ass one of these days!”
The younger male was clapping as he laughed along with Yoongi. He shook his head with a smile, “Now, I told you, Yoongi hyung, there’s magic in these mooncakes I make. There’s tradition in these mooncakes, so I make each one with care. There’s memories in these mooncakes… that’s what makes them so magical, hyung.”
Yoongi’s smile held a look of fondness as he listened to Hoseok’s soothing voice, “Every time the festival came around, my parents would take me to my grandparent’s house and we’d make mooncakes. It’s a process to make them but that’s what I love about them. They take time and they need so much love and care because of that. Oh, sorry, you probably didn’t want a whole back story of how I got into baking mooncakes.”
Yoongi shook his head and reached out to grab one of Hoseok’s hands. He squeezed the hand as he smiled, “I don’t mind at all, Seok. Actually, I want to know more about why you love baking so much. I hope it’s not too soon, but I’d love to get to know you more. I love how you bake but I’d love to get to know the baker. I want to know Hoseok.”
The younger male was a blushing mess when Yoongi brought the back of his hand to his lips. Yoongi pressed the softest of kisses to his hand and Hoseok had to fight not to swoon at the gentle act of love. Yoongi looked like he had a rough exterior, but Hoseok was beginning to think that he was soft on the inside. Hoseok smiled, maybe Yoongi was just soft for him.
“I’d like to know you, too.”
“What would you like to know?”
“Well, what do you do for a living?”
They retracted their hands, much to both of their dismay. Yoongi had a faint smile on his face as he replied, “Well, I’m actually a music producer. I work in the building down the street from here. You might have heard some of the songs I’ve made. They call me Suga, but I can assure you I’m not sweet.”
“You seem pretty sweet to me.”
“Only for you.”
Hoseok gasped, a light pink blush dusting across his face. Suddenly, Hoseok’s eyes widened as he exclaimed, “Wait! You’re Suga? Oh, wow! You’ve made some of my favorite songs! You’re so talented! You must have all the top singers begging to work with you! Oh, you must be so busy, though! Am I taking you away from your work?”
The older male shook his head, smiling at how worried Hoseok had become. He leaned in as he confessed, “You’re not wrong, I’m pretty busy. Most of my nights are spent staying in the studio, sometimes I fall asleep in there. But, I come to your bakery on my break so don’t you worry your pretty little mind.”
“You think my mind is little?”
“I also said it was pretty.”
Hoseok couldn’t help but giggle at the way Yoongi smiled at him. Yoongi smiled as he asked, “So, what about you? I know you’re a baker but is there anything else you like to do? Any hobbies?”
Secretly, Yoongi was trying to get Hoseok to say that he likes to sing. He wanted Hoseok to say he was a singer so that he could have an excuse to hear that lovely voice one more time. He knew it was a long shot, but he was hopeful. Not everyone was confident in themselves, especially with their voice. Yoongi hoped that Hoseok would tell him he could sing, but he had a feeling he wouldn’t.
Hoseok bit his lip and looked away for a moment. He took a deep breath and then turned to Yoongi with a small smile, “Okay, well, I guess there’s more to me than this bakery. Would you believe me if I told you that I really like to dance? I’ve danced ever since I was little. When I’m done at the bakery, I like to go to the dance studio down the street. I teach a couple classes, if you can believe it.”
“I bet you’re amazing, Seok.”
“Do you dance, Yoongi hyung?”
“I don’t want to brag, but I can do the sprinkler.”
“Oh, wow, and all I can do is the shopping cart!”
The two of them broke out into laughter as they both started to showcase their go-to dance moves. Yoongi was wearing his gummy smile as he did the sprinkler, which caused Hoseok to clap as he laughed.
Once Yoongi was consumed with the giggles, that’s when Hoseok took it upon himself to start to do the shopping cart dance. He pretended to grab items from the top shelf, even throwing in some gasps as he feigned that he couldn’t believe the sale price of the imaginary item he was grabbing.
Yoongi and Hoseok continued to talk and make each other laugh until it was time for the older male to return to his job. Of course, Hoseok could not send him back to work empty handed. Hoseok gave him a few sugar cookies to bring with him, but Yoongi refused to take free treats again.
Hoseok tried to resist the money but Yoongi threatened to do the sprinkler outside the bakery to steer potential business away. Hoseok laughed and took the money, stating that he’d rather take a gun to the head than Yoongi’s sprinkler dance move outside his bakery.
The platinum haired male was humming a song as he entered the studio with a box of freshly made sugar cookies. He smiled as he saw that Namjoon texted him to say he would be taking the rest of the day off.
That meant that Yoongi had the studio to himself tonight, and he liked that. He shoveled a cookie into his mouth, finally allowing himself to moan at the delicious taste overwhelming his senses.
A few hours later as Yoongi was working on a song, he saw his phone light up. He cocked an eyebrow when he saw that Jimin had sent him a snapchat. He debated opening it just because it was Jimin. He figured that it was probably just some video of Taehyung doing dumb shit, but he got a feeling that he should open it. He shook his head, deciding to humor Jimin by opening his snapchat right away.
Yoongi wasn’t disappointed by the snapchat. His eyes widened as he saw that it was a video of Jimin behind the counter in the bakery. He was videotaping from the selfie camera so he could see Jimin’s laughing face.
Yoongi’s jaw dropped when he saw that Jimin was with Hoseok in the bakery. Jimin turned to Hoseok and told him to dance. Hoseok was pouring flour into a bowl, but he turned to the camera and gave his infamous heart shaped smile.
The older male couldn’t help but smile when he saw Hoseok walking towards Jimin, telling him he’d dance if he sang something for him. Jimin laughed but then a devious smile etched itself on his face. That’s when Yoongi knew that Jimin was plotting something.
It took Hoseok a second to envision the beat, but he was dancing shortly after Jimin started singing, “Just give me them babies! So, what you doing tonight? Better say ‘doing you right!’ Watchin’ movies but we ain’t seen a thing tonight, yeah!”
Shit. Hoseok was a phenomenal dancer. Yoongi felt like he was frozen as he watched Hoseok dance in the back as Jimin sang, “I don’t wanna keep you up, but show me, can you keep it up? ‘Cause then I’ll have to keep you up! Shit, maybe imma keep you up, boy!”
Yoongi was cursing under his breath when he saw Hoseok moving those hips in the most sinful way. It didn’t help that all those seductive movements evolved into Hoseok twerking. Yoongi knew that if he happened to die now, he could die a happy man. If he died, he would haunt Jimin for the rest of his life for killing him with this provocative snapchat.
Jimin wiggled his eyebrows, showing that he was fully aware of what he was doing. He continued to smile, “I’ve been drinking coffee and I’ve been eating healthy! You know I keep it squeaky! Saving up my energy!”
As much as Yoongi wanted to slap Jimin for this video, he knew he would have to thank him for it. The blonde’s eyes widened as he saw Hoseok dancing to the chorus, “Can you stay up all night? Fuck me till the daylight! 34, 35!”
The video ended with Hoseok looking directly at the camera as he swayed his hips. The way he was biting his lip made Yoongi want to throw him against the front counter and fuck him all night. The video disappeared, but Yoongi still had the chance to watch it again if he replayed it. He debated replaying the snap, but ultimately the devil on his shoulder won and he played it again. Once the video was done, he swiped to chat Jimin.
AgustD: does he even know you sent that to me?
Chimchim: maybeeeeeee
Chimchim: maybeeeeeee notttttt
God, he really hated Jimin sometimes. He shook his head and put his phone down. As he began to write again, all he could think about was Hoseok. He slammed his head on the counter and groaned. He sluggishly reached a hand out and snatched a cookie from the box. He hummed as the delicious taste flooded his mouth. After a couple minutes of wallowing in his adoration for Hoseok, he forced himself to get back to work.
Yoongi lost track of time so when he heard the knock at the door, he expected it to be Namjoon trying to drag him out. He didn’t bother to open the door, figuring hat Namjoon would just come in anyways.
When the knocking came around again, Yoongi threw his head back and called for the person to just walk in. His eyes widened when he saw Hoseok walking in with a box of take out in his hands.
“Uh, hi, Yoongi hyung.”
“S-Seok? What are you doing here?”
“I… I figured you didn’t have dinner so I…”
Hoseok looked down at the food, indicating that he had brought Yoongi dinner. Yoongi’s eyes widened as Hoseok sat in the open chair next to him. There was a light pink blush on his face as he handed the food to him.
This Hoseok was much different from the one in the bakery. This Hoseok was shy and a little unsure. It was like all the confidence he had in the bakery only existed when he was in there.
“You didn’t have to do that.”
“I know… but I wanted to.”
Hoseok might have looked shy, but his words were firm. Yoongi gave a warm smile to the other male as he opened the box to see what he was going to have for dinner. He almost gasped. Hoseok brought him japchae. That was one of Yoongi’s favorite foods. He slowly looked up at the other male. His blush seemed to have only gotten deeper as Yoongi looked at him in awe.
“How did you know?”
The little brunette knew what he was asking. He avoided Yoongi’s gaze as he answered, “Well, I had to ask Jimin what your favorite food was because I didn’t know. After you told me that you stay late in the studio, I wanted to make sure you were eating properly. You don’t get all your basic food groups by eating sugary sweets in my bakery.”
Yoongi couldn’t stop thinking that Hoseok was everything he ever wanted. Hoseok made him feel and think things that he never had before. Having Hoseok beside him made him feel safe and secure. Whenever Hoseok smiled at him or brushed his hand against his, he felt warm. He had just met Hoseok but having him in his life made him feel joy that he hadn’t felt in such a long time.
He wondered if he had ever felt happiness like this before, and he didn’t think he did. Yoongi was starting to realize that in a person’s lifetime, one can fall in love many times but there will always be one love that will burn your soul forever. Yoongi was starting to think that Hoseok was the one that was going to burn him, but he wasn’t afraid. Yoongi wanted to feel that burn and he never wanted it to stop burning.
“I’ve never had someone do this before.”
“What? Bring you dinner?”
“Understand me.”
Hoseok’s eyes widened at those words. Those words felt heavy to Hoseok, but he wasn’t drowning under the weight. Yoongi grabbed the chopsticks in the bag and started to pick at the food. His eyes closed as he enjoyed the taste of the food.
Hoseok smiled at him.
Yoongi looked more relaxed than when Hoseok had saw him when he first walked in the studio. Hoseok felt his heart cracking in his chest. Yoongi must have been hurt in the past when people couldn’t understand how hard he worked on his music.
“I think you’re passionate, Yoongi hyung.”
“Did Jimin tell you to say that?”
Those words confused and hurt Hoseok, Yoongi could tell when he looked into those chocolate orbs.
Hoseok sounded offended as he replied, “No? I might have asked Jimin for his help with your favorite food but that’s it. If you’re implying that I asked him more about you, you’re wrong. I don’t want to get to know you through another person. If I have you right here in front of me then I’m going to ask you about yourself, not your friend.”
Shit. Yoongi didn’t mean to sound so suspicious of him. He was expecting Hoseok to leave after that, but he was surprised to see Hoseok beside him.
The brunette looked him in the eyes as stated firmly, “I’d appreciate it if you didn’t try to push me away when I’m trying to get close to you.”
He could tell he hurt Hoseok, yet he could also tell that the little brunette was too stubborn to walk away. Yoongi liked that about him. He liked how Hoseok was stubborn.
It meant that when he was passionate about something or someone then he was going to fight for it. He was going to work hard for it. Yoongi felt butterflies flying around in his stomach as he realized he was something Hoseok wanted to fight for.
“I’m sorry,” Yoongi sighed as he looked at Hoseok, “it’s been a while since someone actually… cared. People usually see me in the studio and think I’m some workaholic who’s consumed by what he does… but people don’t understand that I love what I do. I guess it’s… unusual to find someone who gets it… who gets me.”
Hoseok smiled when Yoongi put his chopsticks down so he could grab his hand. Yoongi pulled his hand to his lips and kissed it, just like earlier. This kiss was different from the last one.
This kiss was not as soft. It was more present, more distinct. It was like Yoongi was trying to tell Hoseok that he was here to stay. He was here to fight for him, too. Hoseok blushed as he gave his heart shaped smile to the older male.
“Is that your way of saying you like me?”
“Just know, I don’t think I’ll ever leave your side.”
Yoongi spent the next few months constantly going to the bakery on his lunch break to see Hoseok. Most nights, Hoseok would come to Yoongi after his shift at the bakery to bring him some dinner. The two of them would sit together in the studio and listen to Yoongi’s newest projects.
Normally, Yoongi didn’t like people outside his music crew hearing what he was working on, but Hoseok was special. Hoseok was someone who was able to bring a creative outside perspective to his music, and Yoongi liked that.
Hoseok had been initiated into Yoongi’s friend group, as well. They told him that he had to order coffee or tea using a funny name to have the barista yell throughout the café.
Of course, Hoseok was so oblivious that he didn’t know that Yoongi and his friends were joking. Still, it was hilarious to hear the barista yell the ridiculous name and have Hoseok enthusiastically exclaim that he was, in fact, “Ben Dover.”
Yoongi and his friends had laughed so hard that day that some of them cried. The rest of the café was appalled by such a name but Hoseok just shot everyone a smile and pointed finger guns at those who stared at him for too long. Hoseok had no shame, and Yoongi thought it was hilarious.
Hoseok was someone who Yoongi could be himself around, and vice versa. Hoseok was someone who just wanted to laugh his way through life. Yoongi wasn’t sure if he could do the same, but he was sure that trying to laugh his way through life with Hoseok was better than how he was living before.
Yoongi was humming a new tune as he walked from the music studio to the bakery. Today was the day he was going to ask Hoseok to be his lover. Today was the day that he was going to tell him the words to the song he wrote about him and confess his true feelings. Yoongi was telling himself over and over that today was the day.
All the excitement he was feeling caused him to walk to the bakery faster than he usually would. He gently opened the door, smiling when he heard Hoseok’s voice singing and filling the bakery with light.
I’m just saying it’s fine by me,
If you never leave.
He couldn’t help but smile. He had come to realize that all the songs Hoseok sang were ones that made him think of him. Hoseok only sang about how Yoongi made him feel or songs that reminded him of the platinum haired male.
Yoongi would never get tired of hearing the little baker’s voice, nor would he ever grow tired of him. Hoseok was humming some of the words to the song as he put cookies in the oven.
We could live like this forever,
It’s fine by me.
Right when Hoseok was going to turn around, Yoongi stepped out of the bakery and moved so he was out of view. He took a deep breath and felt his pants pocket to make sure that his song sheet was still there.
He exhaled, feeling confident when he felt the sheet still folded and secure in his pocket. He could do this. He nodded and was about to walk back into the bakery when a man shoved him aside and stormed by.
Yoongi was about to shout at the man but he stopped when he saw the man walking like he was on a war path. Yoongi was silently hoping that the man wasn’t going into the bakery, but Yoongi was never that lucky.
The man entered the shop and immediately started yelling. Yoongi felt rage consume his entire being. He wasn’t about to let someone yell at Hoseok and get away with it. No one was ever going to raise their voice to his little ray of sunshine.
He entered the shop, undetected by both Hoseok and the angry customer. As Yoongi got closer, he could hear the man hissing, “I called earlier today and asked for a damn cake and here you are telling me you don’t have it! What kind of a baker are you?! You’re a pretty shitty one, if you ask me!”
“Sir, I need more than a couple hours’ notice-“
“Are you a fucking baker or not?”
“I’m a baker, sir, not a miracle worker.”
“Oh, you’re getting smart with me, are you?”
Yoongi couldn’t help but feel proud of Hoseok when he sassed the man. Hoseok gulped, caving in and making himself look small.
The man saw Hoseok’s moment of weakness and attacked, “I asked you for one God damn thing and you couldn’t even do that! Little Ray of Sunshine, my ass! This bakery will never be like a ray of sunshine and you’ll never be more than a little bitch!”
“You wanna say that again, asshole?”
Hoseok gasped and looked up to see Yoongi standing behind the man, glaring daggers at him. Hoseok had tears in his eyes as he saw the man turn to direct his attack towards Yoongi.
Hoseok wanted to protest. He didn’t want Yoongi to fight his battles for him. He didn’t want this man to say anything hurtful to Yoongi.
“And who the fuck are you? His boyfriend?”
“As a matter of fact, I am!”
Hoseok’s eyes widened when Yoongi said those words. The man seemed to take a step back in shock, not expecting Yoongi to actually be his boyfriend. Little did the man know, Yoongi and Hoseok were not together, yet. Yoongi didn’t want to give this man any more ammunition. He didn’t want to give this man another way to jab at Hoseok.
Yoongi grabbed the man by the front of his shirt. He pulled the man in close as he growled, “If I ever catch you talking shit about my boyfriend again, I’m going to fucking find you and I’m going to make your life hell! You have no right to talk to him, or anyone else like that! Hell, if I ever catch you in this fucking bakery again, I’m going to shove your head so far up your ass that it’ll look like you’re wearing a hat! Got it?!”
Yoongi shoved the man back, who gulped and nodded to him. The man looked like he was about to cry as he ran out of the bakery. Yoongi shifted his attention to Hoseok, who was now standing there with tears streaming down his face.
His eyes were wide but there was the tiniest of smiles on his face as he gazed at Yoongi. The older male stepped beyond the counter and placed his hands on Hoseok’s waist before pulling him in for a hug.
“Are you alright, sunshine?”
“Did you mean it, Yoon?”
“What do-“
“When you said you’re my boyfriend?”
The older male froze, not expecting Hoseok to ask that question. He gently removed Hoseok from his embrace so they could look at one another.
Yoongi nodded, answering softly, “Uh, yeah, I meant it. I actually came here to the bakery to ask you to be mine, but when I saw that guy talking shit about you, I couldn’t stand by. No one should ever talk to you like that and I’ll beat anyone who tries to.”
Hoseok was about to say something, but he paused when he saw Yoongi rummaging around for something in his pocket. He gasped when he saw that Yoongi pulled out a sheet of music with lyrics scrawled on it.
Hoseok’s eyes were wide. He wanted to believe that Yoongi had written a song about him, but he also didn’t want to get his hopes up. He felt that they had a connection, but he didn’t know if it was strong enough for Yoongi to want to write about it, about them.
“I had it all planned out,” Yoongi chuckled as he looked from Hoseok to the paper, “I was going to come in here and show you this song I’m working on. I was going to ask you to sing it for me because I know you have the most stunning voice I have ever head in my entire life. I wanted you to sing the song I wrote for you.”
“Y-You want me to sing the song? Why me?”
“Because I’ve heard you sing so many times.”
Hoseok’s eyes blew up and a dusty rose blush covered his cheeks. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. Yoongi could tell that he was slightly embarrassed, but he looked adorable.
Yoongi handed the music sheet to the other male, who fumbled with it at first but held it close to his chest. Hoseok looked at his shoes and then back to Yoongi’s warm brown eyes.
The platinum haired male smiled as he nodded at the music sheet. Yoongi kept his eyes on Hoseok as he explained, “You see, the first day I came to the bakery I heard you singing. I didn’t say anything back then because you looked so happy. I didn’t want to step on your moment so every day I come in at the same time when I know you’re singing just to hear you. It’s like a private show for me so I hope you don’t mind. Truthfully, I think you’re amazing.”
“You… you really want me to sing your song?”
“If you would be so kind.”
“Okay, but you have to make the melody.”
“Deal, sunshine.”
Yoongi started off humming the music but then he ended up whistling it. Hoseok couldn’t help but smile as he sang the lyrics, “I could never let you go, couldn’t run away if I tried ‘cause even when I’m all alone you still got a hold on my mind. And I’ll always let you know that I’m always gonna hold on.”
Hearing Hoseok sing the song Yoongi wrote for him felt magical. Yoongi almost chuckled because he thought that hearing Hoseok sing gave him the same feeling that those mooncakes did. Hoseok had once said that there was magic in those mooncakes. Hoseok said that they were magical because of the love he poured into them, but Yoongi couldn’t help but think that maybe it was Hoseok.
Maybe Hoseok was the magic.
Hoseok felt his eyes watering. He kept having the same thoughts running through his mind, Yoongi wrote this for you. He never thought that Yoongi would ever write a song for him, but here he was singing a song made for him. Hoseok wished he could hear the music in the studio, but on second thought Yoongi’s whistling was just as good.
Hoseok’s eyes flickered from the paper to Yoongi for a split second. He continued to smile as he sang, “And I told you right from the start, you just say the world and I’ll go. No, it doesn’t matter how far ‘cause your love is all that I know. Baby, you just stay where you are and you know I won’t be too long. Hold on, hold on…”
The tears came falling down his face again. Hoseok’s shoulders were shaking but he didn’t falter as he sang, “Remember when I told you no matter where I go, I’ll never leave your side, you will never be alone. Even when we go through changes, even when we’re old… remember that I told you I’ll find my way back home…”
He looked up from the paper and watched in awe as Yoongi whistled the tune for the chorus. Hoseok shook his head and launched himself at the older male. He wrapped his arms around his neck and nuzzled his face into the crook of his neck, allowing his tears to soak Yoongi’s shirt.
Yoongi gasped at the sudden contact but welcomed the other male regardless. He snaked his arms around Hoseok’s waist and kissed the top of his head. Yoongi didn’t make a comment about how Hoseok’s tears were dampening his shirt, and the younger male appreciated that.
Yoongi and Hoseok pulled away so that they could look at each other. Yoongi had a nervous blush on his face as he asked, “So, uh, did you like the song? I mean you sang it like a pro, but how do you feel about it?”
“I love it, but I love the songwriter even more.”
“Yeah? Well, the songwriter feels the same about you.”
Hoseok was giggling when Yoongi leaned in and kissed him. The kiss deepened the moment Yoongi bit Hoseok’s bottom lip, requesting entrance. Hoseok could never deny Yoongi so he submit to the older male willingly.
Yoongi decided that Hoseok tasted like the treats he made. He tasted like sugar and sunshine. Hoseok would have to say that Yoongi tasted like a sour patch kid with the way he tasted sweet, but he had a little kick to him.
The two pulled away to catch their breath. They were smiling at each other as their breathing harmonized.
Yoongi had his gummy smile plastered on his face, “You know, out of all the things in this bakery, you’re the sweetest. Nothing’s sweeter than you, sunshine. You might give me a cavity!”
Hoseok threw his head back and laughed at how cliché Yoongi was. He playfully swatted his chest as he countered, “Aish, don’t be saying corny things like that! You know that’s almost like a dad joke so if you keep that up Jin hyung is going to appear.”
The two of them were about to lean in for another kiss when they heard the door to the bakery open. The two of them looked to see who entered. Yoongi groaned and Hoseok couldn’t help but clap his hands and laugh. The dad joke police had arrived with a smile on his face.
“Who said you could make dad jokes without me?”
“Fucking hell, Jin hyung!”
