Work Text:
Duel colored eyes stared out the hospital room window; the sound of birds chirping just outside could be heard. The sun was shining brightly despite the darkness that hung over hero society at this current moment. Despite the drama that the Todoroki family had found themselves in concerning a particular villain within The Leauge, having turned out to be the long lost Todoroki once thought dead.
There was a cluster of emotion within the younger Todoroki boy, a hope that his father would survive, though he knew with the truth of what his father had done, people were talking. For now, Shouto tried not to let these things worry him and did his best to focus on his recovery. It had been a few days, and while he was in a bit of pain, at least his injuries were healing thanks to one of the doctors who had a fantastic healing quirk. It was slow to work, but at least patients healed a bit faster than they would normally.
That still left Shouto with the fact that his throat was burned and left him mute for the time being; his throat was far too scratchy to be able to speak with how it was. The duel quirk wielder could deal with this, hell, Fuyumi had given him a journal that he could write down things with for the time being until he could use his words again.
It would be a bit of a pain, but he could put up with it, for now, as annoying as writing down everything he wanted to say was. Shouto tried not to be stuck or dwell on those thoughts too much as it was best to focus on the present and hope that Midorya would wake up soon.
There was a clatter in the hospital hall, and Shouto let out a small huff; it would seem that Bakugo was making a nuisance of himself once again for the nurses. The explosive teen’s voice heard yelling as he made his way ever closer to his room till eventually, he showed up at the entrance and into Shouto’s line of sight.
The both of them had been hanging out a little bit since they had woken up, both mostly worried over whether Midorya would eventually wake up from his unconscious state. Sometimes the other would wheel Shouto toward the greenette’s room or would visit on his own and come by with an update for him when he hadn’t felt like bringing Shouto with him. He watched as Bakuto came to sit at the foot of his bed, and the duel-color-haired boy went to reach for the journal, grumbling when the pen fell on the floor out of reach.
A snort escaped the blond before him as well as an eye roll. “Don’t bother with that Icy-hot; I think it’s time I teach you to sign.” The hot-headed boy said.
Shouto stopped, giving the other a curious look before turning all his attention to Bakugo as the boy got started teaching him. Sign language had been something he hadn’t learned, though his father had planned to teach him at some point. All heroes were well versed in sign language; after all, you never know if you were to come in contact who was hearing impaired or mute.
It took a while, but eventually, Shouto could pick it up by copying Katsuki’s movements, smiling as he looked at Bakugo and did the sign for ‘Thank you.’
“Don’t mention it,” Katsuki said, staying silent a moment as he just sat there, expression at its usual Bakugo level before loosening to a slight frown. “Deku isn’t up yet.” He sighed.
Silence filled the air, and Shouto looked down at his hands a moment before getting a determined look and staring at the blond before him. ‘He’ll wake up soon.’ He replied.
They just needed to have a little faith in the darkness; Hero society was getting scrutinized at every corner, but they just needed to have hope that things could turn around. They had quite a few losses, but maybe things would get better even if it didn’t seem like it would right now.
‘So, how do you know sign language?’ Shouto asked.
Bakugo snorted a little. “My quirk leaves me with shit hearing; I pretty much had to learn it.”
‘Of course, now all your yelling makes more sense.’ Shouto replied.
“Ah…fuck off Icy-hot.” Bakugo rolled his eyes.
