Hifumi was Doppo's beam of light that illuminated his world of pessimism.
They were attached by the hip for as long as they could remember. It was them against the world, as Hifumi would always say. Doppo would reminisce on all the hours of detention he spent in school due to whooping the asses of anyone who upset Hifumi. He was content with spending his time there. As long as he was able to show others to never mess with his best friend.
He remembers the day he first confessed in high school. The wind blew gently as they walked side by side along the edges of the street on their way home from school. The gentle sunlight brought out all the beauties of Hifumi's shining face, a face that Doppo could never forget. He stopped midwalk, tilting his head down, unable to keep his thoughts bottled up any longer.
"Hifumin i…. I love you.. a lot. I really love you. I'm sorry, I know you're probably not gay, you can stop being friends with me if you want to i just.. ah.. I'm sorry.. I'm sor-" he was cut off with a gentle kiss upon his lips, a hand caressing his cheek.
"Doppochin.. I love you too." Hifumi said with a slight laugh. "Was I not making it obvious enough?"
Hifumi's smile was enough to put Doppo at ease. He was a very beautiful man. Doppo would often be caught staring at him. Everything about Hifumi was just so mesmerizing to Doppo. So… perfect.
Hifumi would come home at around 3am each night after working a long shift at Fragrance. Normally it would not be often that they would get to see each other, though Doppo's extreme insomnia would prove otherwise. Hifumi would make him tea and then lay in bed with him while petting his hair. The comfort and warmth of his touch would always be enough to drift him to sleep, even if it were just for a few hours.
Doppo would always wake up to the beautiful sound of Hifumi's voice. He had the voice of an angel. He would constantly dread having to wake up, mostly because he didn't want to go to work, but also because he didn't want to leave Hifumi's arms. He was willing to admit that he had a bit of an obsession. "I mean, who wouldn't?" he loved everything about Hifumi. He always wished he could be as great as him. Always so bubbly and energetic, so great at everything he does.
He always wondered how someone like Hifumi could ever love someone like him. Dead weight. Pessimistic. Annoying. Garbage. He would go on and on about how terrible he was. Though Hifumi always gave the same answer. "I just do! Doppochin could never do anything to make me stop loving him, kay?" Even though Doppo found his constant need for reassurance annoying, Hifumi never once did.
Hifumi's cooking was heavenly. He would always get up to make Doppo breakfast, then send him off to work with a bento, and cook him dinner to eat when he got home. Doppo could never truly express how much this meant to him. If Doppo didn't have Hifumi, it's likely that he would be dead. Hifumi was his savior. He meant everything to Doppo.
"Hifumin.. have I ever told you how much I love you?"
Hifumi walked over from the other side of the kitchen to plant a kiss on his lips. "Of course you have, silly, probably a million times by now," he let out a slight laugh with his words. "but I still love hearing it every time. I love you too, my sweet prince." Doppo pulled him into a hug and rested his head on his shoulder. He stood there for a few minutes, just letting the moment sink in. He found his soulmate. His true love. He was loved and appreciated even though he couldn't love himself.
