Work Text:
the night breeze blew on suguru’s scarf as he and satoru walked along the stone pavement. there wasn't much talking, just strolling aimlessly and just some small talk here and there. suguru likes the feeling, the ambience of the situation. normally, satoru would never shut up, rambling about some stupid things. but whenever they go for aimless strolls in the night, satoru keeps quiet, just keeping suguru company as they walk and walk to nowhere, going to wherever the path led them to.
often, faculty members realise they’ve gone missing and when they’re found they’re always given a harsh scolding. but it was worth it for that period of serenity, where they just bask in the moonlight and enjoy one another’s presence. those impromptu walks they go on are like respite from all the missions, classes and training they have been taking.
right now, they were walking with light steps. satoru has his hands in his pocket, grumbling about how he should have brought a scarf or a jacket. hearing that, suguru can’t help but let out a slight chuckle. that was rather cute of satoru, he must admit. he loves this side of satoru 𑁋 quiet and actually calming to be around. suguru tries to ignore the fact that he, in fact, loves every side of satoru.
surrounding them were just some buildings and plants here and there. they were in a rather desolate area and it was pretty far from the school.
“suguru.”
“hm?”
satoru hesitated for just a second before saying,
“do you ever want to get married?” satoru mumbles the question slightly. it was vague but it looked as if he was hoping for something.
his eyes widened a bit. it was just surprising. suguru would have never expected to hear this question from satoru. he had never pinned satoru to be the type to really go and think about marriage or settling down. then again, they’re jujutsu sorcerers. it’s somewhat useless to think about things like marriage or settling down because really, any of them could just drop dead right now.
“well,” suguru starts, inhaling deeply.
i do. with you. but i don’t know when we can and by the time we can, will we still be alive? together and well?
“i mean, i did think about it before. but, i’m a jujutsu sorcerer. who knows when i might drop dead? when it happens, what will become of my partner? so, it’s pretty unlikely i’d get married, y’know?”
“ah okay then.” he sounds...somewhat let down and he doesn’t press for more unlike his usual self. but suguru doesn’t think too much of it.
that brings an immediate end to whatever small talk they had been having for the past minute. suguru had said it 𑁋 the tragic truth of every jujutsu sorcerer. being a shaman meant putting their lives on the line from the moment they enter into the world of jujutsu. there simply isn’t any time to ponder over things like relationships, marriage, life itself even. besides, being a jujutsu sorcerer would mean being deeply rooted in the world the minute you step back in 𑁋 it wasn’t easy to leave all that behind to settle down.
they continued on for a while more, just following the pavement. the desolate area slowly transitioning into a place with more life then the previous area, with some houses and plants; a neighbourhood of sorts. with that, they spot a 24-hour convenience store. suguru looked down at his phone to check the time. it read 1:50am.
“wanna stop and get some stuff here?”
“yeah sure.”
with that, they went in. as usual, satoru was picking out bags of sweet treats to satisfy that nasty sweet tooth of his. dumping bags of treats into the little basket he’s holding, suguru’s eyes glaze over satoru. the little nose scrunches as he reads the labels on the candy packaging, the slight rustle of his hair as the air-condition within the store blows on it, it’s the little things that makes suguru go crazy for this childish 17 year old. a small smile creeps onto his face while looking at satoru. he didn’t know exactly when this happened or how it happened, but he is sure now 𑁋 that he definitely saw gojo satoru as something more than just a bosom pal.
“i can feel your gaze on me. am i just so handsome that you can’t help but stare?” satoru grins, tone with a teasing lilt.
usually, suguru would retort with an insult along the lines of how his white-ish hair makes him look 50 than 17 or something else. however, in his head, he’d agree with whatever satoru had said.
indeed. you are just so dazzling i can’t take my eyes off you.
he just gives into his internal monologue and replies sincerely,
“yeah. i find you so annoyingly attractive and i want nothing more than just to stare at you 24/7 365 days of the year.” after the last few words, suguru can’t help but let out a giggle at how incredibly cheesy that sounded. satoru’s idiocy must’ve been rubbing off on him.
in his peripheral vision, he could see the confidence on satoru’s face evaporate as a deep red flush spread across his face. huh. so this cocky bastard can get flustered once in a blue moon, eh? noted. they continued to browse around in silence for a while, picking out the items of their choice.
in the end, satoru claimed he “forgot” to put money in his wallet so suguru ended up paying for both of their items together. whatever love and admiration he has harbored for satoru in the current moment was almost immediately turned into annoyance. how does one buy so much treats to the point that the total rings up to over fifty dollars, especially when it’s affordable items from the convenience store? sighing as he reluctantly handed over his money, he was now left with a less-than-sustainable amount of money for the rest of the week.
“ok i’m so so, sorry𑁋” satoru begins in that annoyingly smug voice of his. immediately, suguru’s hand flew straight to his face and not being able to activate infinite technique in time, his face was met with suguru’s hand, grabbing his face.
“not another word out of your damned mouth, dipshit.” suguru huffed in annoyance as he could hear satoru whine in protest. whatever satoru was trying to get across was muffled by suguru’s hand. suguru removed his hand, just as satoru was about to speak, he took gojo satoru 𑁋 one of the strongest sorcerers, by surprise as he delivered a harsh flick to satoru’s forehead.
“ouch! what was that for…” satoru groaned as he rubbed at the offended area. “i was trying to apologise, okay?! i’m sorry, i’ll pay for your stuff for the rest of the week okay?”
“you got yourself a deal. apology accepted.” suguru sighs as he hears satoru whoop, child-like as always. looking at how his eyes are closed as he smiles back at him, damn, suguru thought. he could frame this shit up in his room at stare at it for the rest of his life.
yeah. he’s a dipshit but he’s my dipshit.
after that, they continued walking around the area, venturing deeper into the neighbourhood, where the lamp posts become scarcer. guided by nothing but the path before them and the moonlight, they walked and arrived at a rather not-so-well maintained building 𑁋 to be precise, a church. it seems like it hasn’t been in use for years now.
both of them stood in front of the church, staring at what probably used to be grand white majestic doors into the sacred place, now yellowed, chipped and dilapidated.
suguru was the one to move up to the door and slowly push it open. as expected of the rickety door, it creaks with one of the probably most unpleasant sounds that suguru has heard to date.
it opens up to reveal a rather large hall with a high ceiling, rows and rows of long benches in poor condition, the ragged-looking red carpet laid out in a straight path to the altar. seeing the area before him reminds him of satoru’s earlier question.
“do you want to get married?”
“yeah i do.” suguru whispers to nothing in particular. he then turns back and motions for satoru to come in.
they sat on one of the benches, with satoru slightly wincing at the loud squeak of the old bench. he then pulls out his treats and starts inhaling them at an inhumane pace.
at one point, he pulls out a can of beer and downed it all in just a few gulps. suguru rolled his eyes. no wonder the total was a hefty sum, because not only did this idiot sweep off shelves of treats, but he also bought tons of beer as well.
“you want one?” satoru asked, hiccuping as he holds a can out in hand.
well, might as well since i paid for it (sadly).
he accepts the beer, opens the can with a fizzy pop and the drink slides down his throat, living a bitter aftertaste in his mouth. ah. nothing beats a cheap beer from a convenience store. the essence of youth, indeed. they sat on the bench, drinking beer can after can, listening to the wind rustle the leaves on the trees outside. suguru has no idea what time it was, but it was sure late as hell. just him and satoru, drinking beer after beer as they bask in the moonlight that shines in via the large windows in the church.
suguru loses track of the number of cans he has had with satoru, all he knows was that the world surrounding him was blurred and he was already tipsy. sighing, he slowly unties his hair, letting the long locks flow down his back. the feeling of letting his hair loose was like releasing the tension that has been building up within himself. beside him, he could hear satoru inhale deeply. satoru then moves his hand up onto suguru’s head, gingerly weaving his calloused fingers through the many strands of his hair. the gesture seemed particularly endearing to suguru, nuzzling into satoru’s touch.
after a while, satoru stops, standing up and walking to one of the large windows. he looks out of the window, the moon was a full moon that night, full and bright.
“the moon is beautiful tonight isn’t it, suguru?”
“yeah, it sure is beautiful tonight.”
it was only a few beats after the words they exchanged did suguru realised the underlying meaning of satoru’s words. his heart picks up pace at the mere thought of his feelings being mutual. a soft laugh leaves his mouth as he got up, the feeling of butterflies in his stomach, it was exhilarating. standing beside satoru, he turns his head to the side. he looks even better up close.
“so, what are we now?” suguru didn’t mean to let the question slip out, freezing momentarily when he realised he had said that.
he could feel satoru’s hand brush against his own before intertwining their hands together. the warmth from satoru’s hand also warms his heart.
“we’re whatever you want us to be. we can be lovers,” satoru pauses, “or we can just stay best friends.” his voice grew even softer towards the end, a small frown accompanying the words he just spoke.
“then i guess we’re lovers then.” he turns to satoru, taking his other hand in his own.
maybe it was the sheer love he feels for satoru. maybe it’s the adrenaline rush from the convenience store beer. or maybe both. but suguru leans in closer, close enough till their noses bump. in satoru’s eyes, he sees a wish, that maybe they can forget about all of their responsibilities and just live in the moment as dumb teenage lovers. he has never felt so alive in quite a while.
their lips meet. it wasn’t all electric sparks like how kisses in novels go, he tasted like cheap beer infused with a fruity taste from the candies he inhaled. but the feeling made up for the odd taste; it felt as if the last piece of the puzzle had fallen into place. sure, there may have been slight teasing pecks exchanged at times, but this was a totally different sensation because y’know, they’re lovers now. there wasn’t any tongue in the kissing, it was just a soft, vanilla kiss. they pull away, smiles tugging at their face.
satoru untangled his left hand, while adjusting his other hand so that suguru’s palm was above his. bending down to give his hand a quick peck, satoru smiles his signature boyish grin and asked,
“may i have the honor of dancing with you, my lord?”
it feels like a scene out of a sappy, cliche love story. asking him to dance? how romantic.
“of course. though i must say i have two left feet.”
“it’s totally fine, i can just guide you.”
with that, satoru clasps suguru’s hands in his and starts to move. gently guiding suguru on how to properly execute the moves, they waltz about in the run-down church hall. slowly, suguru starts to get the hang of the moves, their movements picking up in pace and fluidity. he hates how this man can go from being so irritating to being so suave. but what can he say? he’s gojo satoru after all.
“you’re doing so well, babe.” satoru whispered in suguru’s ear, his voice suddenly an octave lower. that sends chills reverberating down his back as satoru moves back, smirking at the effect it had on suguru.
“you’re an asshole and a stupid flirt, you know?” suguru deadpans.
“i know. and you still love me anyways.” there it was, the mischievous cat-like grin on satoru’s face. suguru just sighs and wonders why his heart had set its sights on this incredibly annoying yet charming dumbass.
they dance around for a while more, satoru starts humming a melody. his voice was smooth and steady, never once wavering while dancing. entranced by his ways and his melodious humming, suguru stares endearingly at satoru.
he really wished he had recorded everything on tape, so that he could revisit this every single time. but for now, a simple memory should suffice. yeah this place may be run-down, not ideal but suguru won’t complain, since satoru is here with him.
it felt like they'd been dancing for an eternity before they came to a slow stop. it wasn’t like they were dancing with a lot of energy, but still they were out of breath. possibly from looking at one another.
soft pants could be heard as they sat back down onto the rickety benches. suguru was trying to process what had just happened when he felt his hand being pulled. he turned around to see satoru with a ring pop in hand, sliding the candy ring onto his ring finger. satoru then slid another identical one onto his own ring finger, grinning boyishly.
leaning down to suguru’s hand, satoru pressed another soft kiss to the back of his hand.
“one day, i’ll replace it with an actual diamond ring.” suguru could feel the rush of blood to his face. wow. curse this man for being so disgustingly romantic. clearing his throat, suguru replies,
“well, i’ll take you up on that promise.” with that, suguru pulls in satoru for another kiss; this time it was a prolonged, passionate kiss. the slide of tongues against each other and the plumpness of satoru’s lips 𑁋 it was all too much. a slight groan emanates from suguru’s throat as the kiss quickly deepened into a fervent makeout. desire and adrenaline was coursing through their veins, hands roaming around each other’s body. pulling apart when they get breathless, a slight string of saliva connects their lips. swiping his lips with his thumb, satoru smirked.
“this is kinda erotic, doncha’ think?” satoru leans down to suguru’s hand again, seeming as if he’s going in for another kiss. but really, he just chipped off a piece of the candy on the ringpop on suguru’s ring finger. suguru rolled his eyes and whacked the back of satoru’s head. of course he just had to ruin whatever moment they had just shared.
“damn idiot…” suguru grumbled.
“well, i’m your idiot now!” there he goes, smiling with that pearly white smile of his. suguru’s stomach does backflips at that particularly charming smile of his.
yeah, you’re now my idiot. he thought as he ruffled satoru’s fluffy white hair.
