Work Text:

[ t e n y a ]

Tenya shuffled into class 1-A, aligning the desks perfectly for the day. It was a small gesture, but an important one in his mind, that he would do on a daily basis. He picked up a crumbled up paper underneath one of the desks and unfolded it, seeing as it was a pointless note that was passed between Bakugo and Kirishima. He quickly threw away the paper, and shifted his glasses up his face. It wouldn't be another twenty-or-so minutes before the bell would ring, signaling everyone to get to class. So as he waited, he placed himself in his seat and placed his book bag on the floor adjacently. Tenya grabbed an almost full spiral notebook from his bag and flipped through the pages, finding a blank one.

'You can do this Tenya. You're part of the Iida family! This should be easy!'

His pen went across the paper swiftly and fast, pouring his feelings as heat went up his cheeks. There lay a confession now. He had perfected everything he was to say and what he was to do when he confessed to her, but every time he took a step back to look at his work, he couldn't bear to think of it. He couldn't bring himself to give it to her, show it to her, or confess to her. Tenya only sighed and closed the notebook, resting his head on his right hand while his other fumbled with his school tie.

'She doesn't like you.'

Those are the words that Tenya thought almost all day. It was crushing, but he couldn't help to think it was true. How could she? She was perfect. Tenya was sure half the school liked her, so how could she choose him? He felt the corners of his mouth move upwards, and the blush on his face was prominent. Tenya has thought about her smile. If anyone saw him, he'd look like a love-stricken fool.

The blaring school bell had rung, and Tenya quickly regained himself, making sure his uniform looked as perfect as it could be. The students of 1-A began to walk in. Midoriya, Uraraka, and [Y/N] had walked in, and waved at him. He smiled as they all made their way to him, beginning the usual morning discussion between the friends.

"Good morning Iida," [Y/N] said, offering a small smile to the blue-haired boy.

"Good morning [L/N]." Tenya gave a small smile back.

"Iida! I told you to start calling me by my first name, remember? We're friends now right?" [Y/N] laughed softly and Tenya looked down, focused on his hands as his cheeks heated up.

"Ah, yes...[Y/N]. Well if I may, I would like if you did the same," Tenya said, looking up at her. At this point Midoriya and Uraraka were chatting amongst themselves, forgetting about the two of them. The door shuffled and Aizawa peered into the classroom, giving an intoxicating stare at the students.

"Oh, I guess that makes since. Well Tenya, I'll talk to you later." She smiled at walked over to her desk, which was sadly a few rows away from Tenya. But luckily for him, he was able to see her at the perfect angle whenever he wanted, so it wasn't all that bad. Aizawa has begun his lesson, and Tenya paid attention. Well, for the most part. Halfway through he began scribbling on his notebook;

[ y/n + tenya ]

The bell rung, signaling for the students to leave. Tenya let out a sad sigh, feeling dread as yet another day had passed without telling his feelings to [Y/N]. He grabbed his packed bag and headed towards the school gate, only to be stopped midway through by the [h/c] girl.

"Hi Tenya! Why do you look so sad?" She said, peering at the boy. Tenya could feel a small rush of heat go to his face at her closeness. He took a deep breath before responding.

"It's nothing...I just haven't been feeling very accomplished lately. It's nothing to worry about." Technically, he wasn't lying. Not confessing made him definitely feel like his days weren't worth the time. [Y/N] stopped Tenya, facing in front of him. She stared at him dead and the eye, and Tenya stopped breathing as she leaned in. He swore in his life his body had never heat up this much before. But as what he thought was a kiss, only turned into a hug.

'She doesn't like you.'

"Tenya, everything will be okay. You do so much as class-rep! You're just not giving yourself a break," she smiled while hugging him, feeling his shoulders finally relax. When she pulled back, she was mortified. He was crying. "Tenya! What's wrong? Did I say something?" [Y/N]'s hands frantically tried to check if he was injured or if he had something in his eyes. But his tears turned into sobs. Tenya only had shook his head and began running away, using his quirk to quickly escape his worried friend.

'You're such an idiot.'

-

When Tenya arrived home, he was able to hide his tears from his family. He hurried to his room, closing the door and immediately changing out of his school uniform. Tenya laid on his bed, feeling tears surface and let it all pour out.

'You should be happy. [Y/N] hugged you, right? Why aren't you happy? Why isn't it enough?'

It's because the hug screamed friend. It didn't mean any feelings more than that. It was just a stupid hug that meant strong friendship. He couldn't help but hug his pillow, blushing, and thinking as if it was her. Tenya so desperately wanted her to be here, to see him crying, to hug him, to kiss him. Friends didn't kiss, right? What turned into a silly crush was now an overgrowing fondness for [Y/N], and he knew these feelings might never leave him. Tenya wiped his tears and went to his school bag, grabbing the spiral note-book. He flipped over to the confession, and ripped it out. His eyes scanned over it, reading every line once more. He sighed and folded the paper in half, placing it next to himself as he slid into his bed once more. He laid on his side, cuddling with the pillow. Tenya could feel himself slowly fall to sleep from the exhaustion, still thinking of her.

-

A soft knock on his door awakened his thin slumber. Tenya quickly jolted up, looking at the doorway to see his mother peering in.

"Tenya? You have a visitor," she said, giving him a small supportive smile. If anyone in the Iida family could tell when he was sad, it was his mother. The poor mom could tell her son was sad, but knew it was better to leave him be rather than comfort him about it. She left the doorway and the [h/c] haired girl walked in, smiling sadly at Tenya.

"Hey...I'm sorry for coming. I just...what's wrong Tenya? You know you can tell me anything." [Y/N] walked over to the bed, sitting on the side and facing him. His face instantly heated up from her presence, alone with the silly butterflies in his stomach.

"I-It's really nothing you should worry about [Y/N]. I promise..." Tenya looked down, feeling his eyebrows pinching together, putting his melancholy feelings on display.

"Tenya, please. I can't take this. I know you're upset. Did I do something?" He could hear the hurt in her voice. He couldn't dare to meet her gaze, so he just continued to look at his lap. There was a tense amount of silence before Tenya heard the shuffling of papers and looked up, confused. His eyes went wide, his face flashed pale but then red with embarrassment.

"Stop! Don't read that!" Tenya lunged for the paper, but [Y/N] was too quick, and jumped off the bed while she read it. Tenya could only watch mortified, embarrassed, and full of shame. He could feel his eyes well up. Tenya hung his head, looking down. He wasn't ready for rejection.

"Tenya...Is this really how you feel?" she asked, bending slightly to see his eyes. [Y/N] walked over to the crying boy, and put her arms around his neck. "Tenya, look at me." Slowly, he picked up his head and looked at her. He noticed her figure getting closer and closer in his gaze, and like a magnet, he leaned in as well. The two met in the middle, their lips making contact. The kiss was soft, wet, and extremely passionate. Tenya's hands cupped her cheek, pushing her further in him. Her hands went to his neck, trying to bring them even closer. They pulled away slowly, both their cheeks flushed and their eyes half-lidded.

"[Y/N]...I'm sorry," he said, before pushing her back towards him, capturing her mouth once more. Tenya had waited so long to feel her lips, and now he was addicted. His heart pounded so hard as his stomach was doing flips left and right. Tenya pulled back and put his face in the crook of her neck, holding her close. "I like you. A lot."

"I like you too Tenya," she laughed softly, bringing her arms around him as well.

"More than a friend."
