Work Text:
As Deku gripped her arm, Uraraka could tell...something was off, though she couldn’t immediately pinpoint what exactly was wrong. Just minutes ago, the two had been enjoying a peaceful evening in town, running errands and buying food and cleaning supplies for their dorms. Midoriya had excused himself to use the restroom in a nearby convenience store, then came running out of the building moments later in a complete panic.
She almost didn’t have time to process what was going on as Midoriya clumsily tugged her arm and ducked into an alleyway.
“Hurry up! We have to hide, now!” Midoriya huffed and skidded to a halt next to a dumpster.
Uraraka, equally as breathless as her co-hero, took a moment to gulp down as much air into her lungs as she could. Though it was the middle of a summer day, the sky was cloudy and the tall buildings loomed over the two heroes and shrouded them in almost complete darkness. Despite the dimly lit atmosphere, Ochako did her best to look at Deku’s face.
“What happened?” Uraraka panted. “Why are we hiding?”
“We had to get out of there! A villain started chasing after me when I left the convenience store! I didn’t want you to be spotted or get hurt.” The boy said quickly. Ochako, now concerned, asked further.
“Uh oh! Who was it? Someone from the league?”
“No. I’m not sure who it was.”
“...How...how did you know it was a villain, then?” Uraraka flattened.
“I...I knew they were after us.”
The brunette girl raised an eyebrow.
“That’s... vague. I didn’t see anyone come out of that store after you.” She spoke slowly as she was deep in thought, still keeping her eyes on Midoriya. She watched as he haphazardly looked around, obviously panicking. He was panting rather harshly.
That behavior was very uncharacteristic for Uraraka’s classmate. At least, uncharacteristic for him currently. Though Midoriya was known to be a very shy and quiet boy during the first weeks of their first school year, he really had grown after all he experienced. She knew current Midoriya to be calm and collected during times like these. This Deku, however, was almost...overacting, as if he was simply trying to sound concerned. It all seemed so insincere. Uraraka prodded further.
“Well, what did the villain look like? Were they wearing a costume?”
Midoriya paused, not even looking back at the girl that was increasingly becoming more suspicious of his behavior.
“They were wearing a red mask, I think. Why does that matter? All we need to do is get away from them. Come on! I know a shortcut back to our dor-“
“Okay, that’s enough. You’re not Deku!”
Uraraka stood at attention, ready to strike this fake Deku if he turned and attacked.
“The real Deku wouldn’t be so sloppy and careless if he suspected a villain was after us! He’s very observant, and he’d be way more descriptive. Also, when you ran off with me, you were going pretty slow for someone who usually uses his quirk to power up his legs, especially during a supposed emergency. Plus, you got breathless pretty quick.”
The green-haired imposter did not respond immediately. The air around them felt suffocating in the tension between them. The growing silence made Uraraka’s ears ring.
Slowly, Midoriya turned to face her, sporting a wide grin and a horrifying euphoric look in his eyes.
“Aw, why did you have to be so picky, Ochako?” He chuckled.
“It’s obvious you’ve studied Midoriya’s actions much more thoroughly than I have. You naughty girl!”
Wait.
That was kind of...
“Well, there’s no point in hiding now.”
The boy cut through Uraraka’s thoughts as he hopped up on his tip-toes. Uraraka’s jaw dropped as Deku’s form started to melt away like dripping paint before her very eyes. It looked as if Deku was just clay piled onto a base model, and the model was slowly revealing itself underneath the work of art. Yellow eyes stared back at Uraraka’s brown pinpricks. Despite her best judgment, Uraraka reached out and yelled.
“WAIT, DON’T CHANGE BACK YET!”
As if time stopped, so did the melting effect. The yellow eyes behind the melty mask blinked, and a distorted voice responded.
“Huh?”
The voice was an almost demonic blend of Deku’s voice and a girl’s voice, possibly sounding like that because the imposter was in the in-between stages of their retransformation. Uraraka found herself deeply unnerved at this inhuman sounding voice. Looking away from the deformed and gloopy mess in front of her, Uraraka responded.
“Uhh...Toga Himiko, was it? I...I remember you. You have to strip before you transform into other people for your quirk to work right? Which means when you transform to your regular form, you’ll be completely naked! You don’t have to go through all that trouble for a big reveal. It’s, it’s probably inconvenient to be completely naked after all that slimy stuff comes off, right? In public, no less! You wouldn’t want to be seen like that in public, would you?”
Toga snickered.
“Oh, I could care less about that. I do it a lot!”
Uraraka cringed.
“Riiight, but-“
“Okay, okay, I’ll bite. I wanna see what this leads to.”
And just like that, the disgusting transformation went in reverse, and soon Uraraka was staring into familiar, yet scarily unfamiliar, green eyes.
“G-Great!” Uraraka found herself giving off a shaky smile from the thrill of it all, though she tried to remain distant and composed. She covered her mouth and coughed her stupid grin away before speaking again.
“Now, um...you can just explain your plan like that. It’s more convenient for you, I’m sure.”
‘Deku’ blinked back at her. As if to signal a little lightbulb going off in ‘his’ head, ‘Deku’ smirked with amusement.
“Wait, you’re totally into this, aren’t you? You’re into Izuku acting all evil and stuff!” He spoke in a mocking, yet excited tone of voice. It was clear that Toga was putting down all her faking and acting like herself. Though she spoke in Deku’s voice and bore his face, she spoke with all the inflections of an excited teenage girl, and her body language matched.
“Wh...What?! O-of course not! I just don’t wanna have to see you naked! I think that’s fair enough!” Uraraka waved her arms in front of herself in a whirling flurry of flustered defensiveness.
“Don’t pretend to be innocent! You think about it a lot, don’t you? Sweet and innocent Deku turning to the dark side and being all smug and mysterious!”
“Now, hold on a sec! You don’t know a thing about how I feel about all of this!”
“Ohh, but I do know how you feel, Ochako. You like the thought of me being a bad boy, huh?”
As if she was slipping a mask over her entire persona, Toga channeled all the sexy-ish Deku charm she could muster into her performance. Uraraka went to open her mouth in defiance, but no words would come out. A breathy squeak came out of her throat instead as her face went a deep cherry red.
“I-I...W-Well, that’s just...oh...my...” Uraraka, unable to properly convey anything other than her girlish delight, instead went to shyly twiddle her fingers and thumbs.
Why was Ochako going through with this? Why was she letting this happen? She supposed this could work as a great distraction for Toga to take part in while Ochako waited for the real Deku to come looking for her...but in this case, which one of them was really being distracted? This wasn’t a pro move at all! It was...self-indulgence! She felt ashamed of herself for enjoying this.
And yet, as this mysterious Midoriya stepped forward and tilted her chin up, she couldn’t stop herself from squealing and squeezing her eyes shut.
“Ha! I practiced doing this in the mirror once when I got a sample of Izuku’s tasty blood, and I couldn’t stop squealing!” Toga’s excitement shined through again as she giggled in Midoriya’s voice.
“That, That’s weird. That’s really weird.” Ochako covered her blushing face.
“But isn’t it enticing, Uravity?” The boy leaned in and whispered in her ear, his voice sounding husky and deep. It was too much for Ochako’s poor heart to handle.
“EEP!” Ochako yelped and shoved the shapeshifter away.
“Oh gosh, why do you have to make him sound so...so...!”
“Hot? It’s my thing! I make everyone I shape into as hot as can be!”
“I was gonna say ‘creepy’!”
“Hehe, same thing.” The boy covered his mouth and giggled.
Ochako huffed and crossed her arms.
“I think you’re enjoying this a little too much.” She mumbled.
“Well, duh. Of course I’m having fun! I just love talking about my crushes with friends.” Toga sighed.
“We’re not friends. You tried to kill me.”
“Don’t take it personally, Ochako! I try to drain everyone’s blood!”
“It’s not a matter of whether or not I’m taking it personally, it’s a matter of whether or not I wanna DIE!”
Toga pursed her lips in a pout and grumbled.
“It won’t be as thrilling, but I’m totally capable of not killing you today if that’s what you want.”
Ochako scoffed.
“No, no. I’m serious. I’d love to just have some boy talk!” Toga waved her hands and her borrowed face flushed pink.
“Here, I’ll start.”
Toga cleared her throat, then got into character again.
“Urarakaaaa, talk to meeee...”
Ochako’s eye twitched and she puffed her cheeks to keep herself from smiling. Even though Toga scared her, nothing could stop her from feeling all tingly at Midoriya’s voice sounding cute.
“See? His vocal range is super fun to play around with!”
“You’ve...mastered that part of him, that’s for sure.” Uraraka spoke with hesitance, but she really couldn’t hide her glee.
“Yay! I’m glad you think so! Oh, oh! Listen to this one!”
Toga got closer and giggled mischievously. Ochako backed up against a garbage bin and nearly fell over backwards.
The reserved giggling turned into evil laughter. It wasn’t just any evil laughter, it the most intensely sensual evil laughter Ochako had ever heard, reserved for only the most dramatic fictional villains on television.
Well, Ochako just discovered a new weakness. She figured that if the real Deku ever did turn to the dark side, she’d never be able to defeat him if he laughed like that. She’d probably crumble to the floor and make way for the show-stopping, scary cutie in front of her. Much like what she was doing right now, actually.
Toga interrupted her performance with a snort, then wheezed quietly.
“Ah, sorry. I kinda ruined it...but still, pretty badass, right? Doesn’t it just make your heart race?”
Ochako bit her lip, and despite her best efforts, giggled a little bit.
“Yeah...Yeah, it does.”
“URARAKA!” A voice screamed from the edge of the alleyway.
“Uh oh.” Toga murmured.
The two girls looked to the opening of the alley and saw the source of the scream. It was Midoriya, and it was obvious that this boy was the real deal. A subtle glow came off of him, that was unique to his quirk.
Ochako and Toga looked to eachother and just...stared. What were they supposed to do now? Fight to the death? They couldn’t just politely explain to Deku that they were basically roleplaying just now, could they?
“Oof!” Toga groaned and dramatically flung herself back, pretending to be hit by Ochako. Toga collapsed to her knees, and her disguise melted off once more. This time, she had the opportunity to finish. Uraraka averted her eyes as the girl’s nude body was revealed, only a thick layer of grey slime covering the details. How convenient.
“You’re strong, Ochako, but I’ll be back!” Toga yelled out, sneaking in a wink towards her bestie before jumping up onto some garbage cans and disappearing over the roofs above.
Ochako was speechless, unable to compute what just went down in front of her.
She felt a strong hand on her shoulder, and she looked up to her classmate. The real Deku. The genuine article.
“Oh my gosh, Uraraka! Are you alright?!”
“I’m...fine. She didn’t cause too much damage.”
She wasn’t exactly lying, Toga did make her heart go crazy, but not because of a fight.
“I’m so sorry it took me so long to find you! When I left the store, I just assumed you went across the street. I was going so slowly because I didn’t even consider you’d be in danger. That’s my fault.”
“Oh, Deku...”
Ochako felt guilty and dirty for lying to Midoriya about the kind of trouble she was in, but...this truly was an issue that couldn’t easily be explained in depth.
“It’s really okay. We can just report the incident and go on with our shopping.”
Midoriya sighed and grabbed Ochako’s hand gently, helping her off the ground.
“I guess so... Let’s just get back to UA for now.”
Ochako was a filthy, awful, dirty liar. She would have to explain what happened to a teacher or pro hero sometime later, but she wouldn’t be caught dead telling Midoriya what transpired in that alleyway that day, even if it was all relatively innocent.
