Work Text:
Kirari’s affection was very subtle, if it was even there at all. She wasn’t especially doting, or even one to grace Mary with a kind word. She really only cared about things that she found interesting, and Mary was lucky to have been deemed fascinating to her. Kirari liked her because she didn’t understand her, and Mary wasn’t going to make that easier for her.
Kirari needed to understand that not everyone was going to fit perfectly into her little schemes. Mary wasn’t a perfect puzzle piece. She’d first piqued Kirari’s interest when she threw off the shackles of being a housepet, then further after she refused the offer of joining the student council. Kirari was used to having everything going according to plan. Her whole life had built up to her being a leader of people. A manipulator.
Maybe that was why they got on so well. Mary interested her, and Kirari interested Mary. Mary wanted to be able to take her down a peg, crack that cold exterior and see what the president was really all about. Then, she would take from that, learn how best she could rise to power in her own right.
They were an odd pair. Deep down, Mary wasn’t even sure they really liked one another. But if Kirari wanted to keep her around, well, then Mary would keep her around too. Together, they would keep this odd thing going as far as they could. She was sure that the climax would be brutal. But that was then, and this was now. Just Mary and Kirari, each one studying the other. Finding out what made the other girl tick.
