Work Text:
Sara groggily woke up to the smell of paint. she looked over and saw Nao painting a something on an easel. Nao took her attention off the canvas and locked eyes with Sara.
“good morning, dear!” Nao said, happy Sara’s awake
“good morning love! what are you painting?” Sara asked, head tilting to the side a bit.
“that’s a surprise, Sara.” Nao giggled a bit
“okay then! i’ll go make some coffee, and then i have to go to school.” Sara internally cringed at the thought of being where Joe once was, remembering what they did together, and what she wish she’d done before.
Sara walked through their apartment and into the kitchen. she started the coffee maker and went to the bathroom while she waited for it to finish.
she looked at her disheveled hair and heavy eye bags. she hadn’t really slept well since the massacre, and she doesn’t think she will soon. she started to get into her uniform and ignored the faces of her former friends in the mirror. she started to hear them too, telling her she’s at fault and she can’t make amends.
the coffee machine gurgled and gave her a reason to leave. she took the opportunity and ran into the kitchen. she was done in the bathroom anyways.
Sara drank her coffee as quick as she could. she was almost out of time. she used to get up way earlier than she had to, and take time to make herself presentable, but it didn’t matter to her anymore.
Sara went back to the bedroom to give Nao a kiss on the cheek, earning her a hug from Nao. Sara grabbed her backpack and set out the door.
maybe today, it’ll feel better.
