Chapter Text
The New Symbol of Peace
All Might’s Successor
The Number One Hero
Izuku dreamed of becoming all of these things when he was at UA. And he did them. 4 years later, Izuku was literally living his dream. But that didn’t end up lasting very long for him.
...
“Come on, Nerd. The raid starts soon, and we have to be in place.”
“Sorry Kacchan. I’m right behind you, let’s go.”
“I told you to stop calling me that dumb ass.”
The Number One and Number Two heroes sat at the back of the cargo plane waiting for the signal to jump.
They were assigned to a new case concerning a large scale weapons smuggling ring case. The operation was pretty straight forward. All they had to do was be dropped in on the warehouse where the group held their ground operations while at another location another team took out the leadership of the operation.
Jirou had confirmed that there were about 40 people that came and went from the warehouse, so it would be easy for Bakugo and Him.
“Deku, Dynamite. Do you copy? 5 minutes from the drop site. Prepare to jump. Over.”
“We copy, preparing to jump now. Do we still have clear skies? Over.”
“ Deku, it’s looking clear all the way for you. No sight of hostiles outside the building. Beginning countdown for jump…”
The cargo door began to open, and the wind whipped around the cargo hold surrounding both the heroes as they began to stand.
“Ready?” Izuku stood up first and held his hand out the Bakugo, who pushed it away and stood up on his own.
“... Five…”
“You bet your ass nerd, why? Are you scared?”
“... Four…”
“You wish. Bet, I can take out more villains than you.” Izuku mirrored Bakugo’s signature smirk, a testimony to not only his growth over the years but the growth of their friendship as well.
“... Three…”
“You’re on.” Bakugo was leaning towards the open door, looking over the edge.
“... Two …”
“Winner buys dinner?” Deku went to stand by the door, and held out a fist towards his partner.
“... One…”
“Oh thank god, I’ve been craving for Mabu Tofu.” The ash blonde put on his signature smirk, and returned the fist.
“ Go go go, Jump Now.”
The two heroes, jump from the plane and begin hurtling towards the villain lair sitting below them
Any other person might need a parachute, but these two were ridiculous enough to jump from a plane just for a kickass grand entrance. But if anyone else asked, they would just claim the parachutes would just get in the way.
Grabbing onto each other as they got closer to the ground, Dynamite used his explosions to create some centrifugal force and spun him and Deku around until he released his partner's hand, ultimately sending him soaring towards the ceiling of the warehouse.
Deku smashes straight through the roof and landed, creating a massive impact into the ground. Luckily, it looked like no one got caught in the debris of his landing.
From above, the distinct explosions of Dynamight were making their approach. Knowing that he wouldn’t care to hold back on anyone present, Deku addressed the villains that began to line up in front of him. He threw on his winning smile and spoke with a uncharacteristic customer service voice, like he was dealing with a Karen in the middle of a lunch rush rather than a group of blood thirsty villains. But you tend to have a weird sense of humor once you become a pro-hero, keeps things from getting too serious.
“OK guys, hate to do this to you, but unfortunately we're shutting you down. And we can do this the easy way or the hard way. The easy way is putting your weapons down and hands on your heads, the Hard way is to just wait for Dynamight to join us, which is any second. Please take into account that either way you will be losing.”
All of the villains just kind of looked at each other in confusion.
“Who the fuck are you to talk to us like that, Hero?”
“Oh they didn’t warn you? Let me introduce myself. I am Pro-Hero Deku, and you can just give up now. Why? Because I am Here!”
As if they planned it, Bakugo came flying through the ceiling at that moment and landed by Deku. Smoke trailing from his hands and a wicked smile on his face.
“Hey shitty nerd. Don’t act like you’re the only one here. Now. Who wants their ass kicked first?”
…
An hour and several ass whoopings later, the Heroes finally took down the entire smuggling operation. Both ends were given the clear to sit back and wait for support squads to arrive and collect the villains.
Both Izuku and Bakugo were exhausted, but they stayed hypervigilant since they were still waiting to hand the villains off. Most were out cold, or cuffed against the wall. The heroes stood towards the side, watching over the villains.
“Fuck, Headphones could’ve done a little better research. ‘40 small fries’ my ass. Closer to 60. I hope her shitty ears hear me. She owes me for her fuck up.”
“Jeez, Kacchan. Surely, just a few more “small fries” weren’t too difficult for the Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight.”
“OH MY GOD, WOULD YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THAT BEFORE I KILL YOU. I WAS 16! OF COURSE, I CHOSE A SHITTY NAME. AT LEAST I CHANGED MINE UP INSTEAD OF USING A CHILD’S NICKNAME. Fucking Deku. Tch.”
“Whatever you say ~Kacchan~ you don’t have to blow up about it….”
“I swear to fucking fuck nerd. Just shut up.” That didn’t stop the green hero from laughing.
“I wonder what’s taking support so long, they weren’t that far out. Come in Support Team A, Deku here. Checking an ETA. Over.”
…
…
“-KU WER-... HELP…. TROU….BLE…. VILLAIN….”
Deku and Dynamight both looked at each other with a distinct sense of panic. Most people on the Support weren’t heroes. They were mostly doctors or nurses, cops, and a few sidekicks to help with clean up. And from the sounds they just heard over the intercom, they were outmatched and in trouble.
“Hello, Hello. Support Team A. Come back in. Where are you? How many are there? Hello???? Over.”
They waited anxiously, but no answer came. They both began to run out the door towards where the Support Team was camped in preparation for the mission.
“Deku, stay back and watch the prisoners.”
“No Kacchan, the Support Team needs us. Plus, you’re my partner, we go into battle together.”
All he heard from Bakugo was a gruff sound that indicated he wouldn’t argue anymore.
As they got closer, they could hear the sounds of a battle going. Small explosions, yelling, and the clash of metal against metal.
When Midoriya and Bakugo finally made it to the small clearing not far from the warehouse, they weren’t expecting what their eyes showed them.
Surrounding the edges of the encampment were bodies of different medical staff in various states of disarrays. Some looked to be asleep, while others were torn apart and barely recognizable.
The stench of blood made Midoriya turn his head away from the sight and the horror of it.
He was a hero, this is always bound to happen. But at this time, and to this scale? This was something his contingency plans weren’t prepared for.
He began to look around for survivors, and began to focus towards the movement in the middle of the camp clearing.
Standing among bodies and still-standing sidekicks was a man clad in a silver bodysuit. There were only a handful of sidekicks left standing and even fewer that looked like they could fight anymore.
Before Midoriya could even move, Bakugo was charging in towards the villain trying to get his attention off of the sidekicks, so they could escape.
“Go you bunch of extras, get out of here and call for help. We need medics. NOW RUN!”
Bakugo wasn’t one to charge in blindly, but he knew if he waited any longer another life would be taken today.
“So maybe I won’t have wasted my day by fighting all those small fries. Now why don’t you just DIEEEEE”
Bakugo sent a large explosion towards the man, who had yet spoken a single word. When the dust cleared, the man was still standing tall with not a single scratch on him.
Instead, the man had raised his arm and it looked like his silver suit moved to protect him like a shield. He lowered his arm and the silver moved back in place to cover his whole body.
“Dynamight, so glad you could make it today. Hope my ‘small fries’ didn’t bore you too much. You’ll have to forgive me, I wasn’t expecting visitors, so I just got back. But I promise to be more entertaining now…” His voice came across like nails on a chalkboard, not a single emotion could be detected in the cold echo of it.
“Kacchan I don’t think we can win by just charging in… I think I’ve got a plan. I just need you to distract him for a little bit.”
“Whatever. I’ll do it, but don’t be sad if I kick his ass before you make a move.”
With that both heroes ran in opposite directions around the villain, Bakugo making a sharp turn and jumping towards him.
“DIEEEE”
Back and forth for what felt like forever. Bakugo would attack, Silver Man would block. They continued to dance around each other, well-matched, neither getting the upper hand and increasingly getting frustrated.
Bakugo let loose an enormous explosion, causing the Silver Man to stumble backwards and giving Bakugo the chance to kick him in the chest and send him flying.
“Ahhh ahah… Well Dynamight. You certainly don’t disappoint. The Symbol of Victory. Definitely live up to it, but I think it’s time we put an end to that streak. It looks like you’re at the end of your rope, and your partner is nowhere to be found.”
A silver spike, like a scorpion tail, grew from the back of his suit as he leisurely walked towards Bakugo, who was kneeling on the ground panting.
“Hey Dumbass, don’t stick that shit anywhere near me. I’m gonna kill you for even thinking about it. And another thing, maybe don’t underestimate the nerd.”
At that moment, a shadow overtook the battlefield as Midoriya jumped from a nearby cliff towards the Man in Silver. Poised to send an overpowered attack that would surely end the battle with one hit, he fell quickly. But not quick enough to stop the silver spike from going through Bakugo’s chest.
“NOOOOOOOOO KACCHANNN!!”
Midoriya focused back on the villain in front of him, and put all his power into a punch.
“1,000,000% DELAWARE DETRIOT SMASH”
After that there was a loud clatter, and then an immediate and unsettling silence. Everything seemed too bright and too dark all at once. Midoriya wasn't sure what was happening and it took all his will to lift himself off the ground and to his knees.
He no longer saw the Man in Silver, but there were more important issues at hand.
He crawled his way over to Bakugo who was lying on side surrounded by a pool of his own blood.
Suddenly sound slowly came back, and Midoriya realized that he had temporarily lost hearing as Bakugo’s screams filled his ears. A sound that would probably haunt him for the rest of his life.
There was another sound, he wasn’t sure where it was coming.
Once he got to Bakugo’s side, he saw that the spike had gone mostly through Bakugo’s shoulder. While it wasn’t good that he got stabbed, he at least only got stabbed there and not his heart.
Midoriya breathed a small sigh of relief. And then his own body began to feel the brunt of what he had done to it. He felt like he was back in high school again. Sure, he was a lot bigger and stronger, but his quirk was still too powerful for one singular person to wield it easily.
He could feel his bones and where he had recklessly broken them for what felt like the millionth time. He then realized that the other noise he had been hearing before was his own crying.
I wonder what Sensei would say right now. Probably call me a problem child and tell me I’m useless without my quirk...
But slowly as both their bodies numbed themselves from the pain, and they started to hear the sirens of what was probably more heroes and medical help.
“Fuck... Kacchan. I’m tired…”
Bakugo began to stir once he heard that, slowly getting himself off his back to look at Midoriya at his side. Reaching out the grab the other man's collar, as they lay in pools of their own blood. One from damage inflicted on him, and the other from damage he inflicted.
“SHITTY FUCKING NERD. YOU BETTER NOT DIE. YOU OWE ME TOFU AND SINCE WHEN DO YOU CUSS?? HUH?”
“Well.. I learned from the best…” A small laugh escaped from Midoriya, quickly followed by wet coughs that caused more blood to come out of him.
He really was tired. There was help on the way, surely no one would judge him for taking a little break. He was the Number One Hero for crying out loud. Surely no one would mind if he took a quick nap... It was warm out here. If only Bakugo would shut up. Why is he always yelling? Just like we were kids, nothings changed. I haven't changed. I am so tired now tho... I do everything, I think I deserve a nap...
“DON’T YOU FUCKING CLOSE YOUR EYES, YOU BROCCLI LOOKING FUCKER. THINK OF EVERYONE ELSE. HALF N HALF WOULDN’T BE TOO HAPPY. THINK OF CHEEKS AND FOUR EYES. YOUR MOM.... SHIT DEKU EVEN ME...”
...
“YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO GO ANYWHERE, I HAVEN’T BEATEN YOU FOR NUMBER ONE YET. THIS ISN’T THE WAY I WANT IT.”
“Just for a second... Katsuki…”
...just for a second.
