Work Text:

“How long have you been at this again?” Ryoko Shinonome piped up, raising her head out of her partner, Tsukasa Okino’s, lap while surveying her surroundings, everything in the room pitch black save for the sharp squares of light coming from their dual monitors. She had nodded off while invading Okino’s space as they worked on a project late into the night, and had just gotten back up.

“About.. three, four hours maybe? I’ve been kinda stuck, honestly.” Tsukasa answers back unflinchingly, eyes still glued to the screen. Ryoko couldn’t see super well from where she was, but she already knew they were in what she jokingly nicknamed “programmer mode”, with their eyes rarely blinking, sitting slightly hunched in due to their not-so-perfect eyesight they refused to get glasses to fix, and a blank expression with their mouth slightly ajar. She shifted around a bit, in order to lift her arm up and gently touch their chin. “You really should just… take a break, y’know? I wanna lay down with you, and it’s not really comfortable down here for me,” she spoke up, moving her hand up as much as she reasonably could to rub their partner on the cheek.

“I dunno, I’m definitely not complaining about having a pretty girl just lay her head in my lap for hours on end,” Tsukasa said, taking a moment to turn their head down and smirk at Ryoko, playing with a lock of her hair while complimenting her, before continuing. “You’re probably right though, my eyes are starting to bug me.” They sighed out, taking their hand out of her dark blue hair before pinching the bridge of their nose and closing their eyes for a bit.

“That’s what you get for staring at screens all day, dear. Blue light kills your eyes.” Ryoko sniped at them, before lifting her head out of their lap and moving to get back up and head to the bed they share right in the middle of their messy bedroom. She’ll really have to remember to get on herself and Tsukasa to try and clean it up in the morning. She stretches a bit and slips off her jeans, preferring to sleep in just a t-shirt, before sitting on the bed waiting for them to come over.

“Yeah, yeah, I know. I always forget to set up that filter for it. Guess that’ll be future Tsukasa’s problem if they can’t see anything.” Tsukasa shrugs before closing out their tabs and reaching down to power off the computer, before fumbling out of their chair in the complete darkness of the room, stretching their arms above their head, and starting off to head into bed.

Ryoko rolls on her side before scooting over to make room, patting the spot where she wants Tsukasa to lay, and smiling as they take the hint and get into bed on their back. “You know, if you couldn’t see anything, I’d have to be your eyes. That’d be really weird, like I’m guiding you somewhere. Like a guardian angel or something.” Tsukasa shifts their head over, looking Ryoko up and down a bit, before responding, “You’re telling me you aren’t already an angel? Really could’ve fooled me. I don’t know if a halo would suit you though.” They poke the top of her head to emphasize, and she blushes heavily at their latest (successful) attempt at winning her over through compliments. “Oh, I, uh… Thank you, Tsukasa. That’s really sweet. Sorry, I’m just…”, Ryoko stutters out, struggling to hold her composure in front of her partner, before they pipe up to finish her sentence. “Flustered? It’s alright, I just like reminding you, you know? You’re beautiful like this. I mean it.” Tsukasa moves their hand slightly to rub Ryoko’s cheek, like she did for them a moment ago, before leaning in and planting a kiss on her lips, holding there for a second. After they moved off, Ryoko leaned in herself for another one, this time holding it longer and draping her arm over Tsukasa’s torso, before leaning back out. “Good night, Tsukasa. I love you,” she managed to whisper, before pulling them in to get more comfortable and leaning her head on their shoulder, and closing her eyes, drifting off. “...I love you too, Ryoko.” Tsukasa mutters, before moving their head slightly to rest their chin on the top of her head, being careful not to jerk around too much. They close their eyes, humming a bit in comfort, as they drift off for another day spent with the hauntingly beautiful girl in their embrace.
