Work Text:

Lisa woke up before her wife. A feat unheard of, not when Jean woke up before the sun, and got to work not seconds afterwards.

Today, though, was a peaceful Sunday, the one day Jean allowed herself some respite. And even then, she would still wake up before Lisa, which was why the brunette was leaning over her wife, trying her best to be as inconspicuous as possible, her hand hovering hesitatingly over her wife’s neck.

Was she even— Was she alive?

Her trembling fingers pressed underneath her wife’s jaw, and she bit her lip, waiting what felt like hours. A heartbeat. Thank the archons

“Did you really just take my pulse,” a voice mumbled from right underneath her, startling her so badly she shrieked in panic, dropping on her ass on her side of the bed.

Jean rolled to face her, annoyance clear as day on her face.

Lisa chuckled awkwardly. “No, no, of course not. That would be weird. I was— checking out a hickey. Admiring my work, you know.” Lisa wasn’t flustered often, but being caught concerned about her wife somehow sent her in fits of blushing and stuttering.

Jean raised an eyebrow, her eyes still bleary with sleep. “What hickey? You didn’t leave any last night.”

Lisa’s blush somehow burned even brighter. She tried for a smirk, lounging in bed, her nightgown hanging loosely over her figure.

“Would you like me to leave some now?”

Jean blinked. She turned her back to Lisa, settling deeper under the covers. “No, thanks.”

Lisa sputtered, her hand that was supporting her head in an effort to appear sexy giving way, making her fall face-first onto the mattress.

Jean!” she moaned, tears stinging her eyes in embarrassment.

No sound from the blonde.

“I hate you. I hope you know that.” At that, a mumble came from the other side of the bed, something that sounded like ’yes, sure darling.’

Lisa rolled her eyes. She hopped out of bed, glaring at the mass under the blankets.

“I’m gonna make pancakes. You’re not getting any.”

To her surprise, a hand shot up from under the blanket. Her wife gave her a thumbs up. A fucking thumbs up.

Lisa was the unluckiest woman alive.

Ningguang, 9:02 am: Good morning guys! Are we still on for today?

Beidou, 9:02 am: hey :3

Ningguang, 9:03 am: Yes, hello, Beidou.

Beidou, 9:03 am: how r u :3

Ningguang, 9:03 am: … Great, how are you?

Beidou, 9:04 am: cool :3 now that ur here :3

Childe, 9:05 am: beidou you’re a grown-ass woman. you teach at a university. why do you still use :3 unironically

Beidou, 9:05 am: ill rip ur eyes out of their sockets and feed them to ur little sister :3

Childe, 9:05 am: message received.

Lisa, 9:07 am: um, anyway… yeah, we’re still on for today @Ningguang

Lisa, 9:07 am: our place, dinner then drinks?

Ningguang, 9:08 am: With pleasure! Who’s coming?

Childe, Beidou, Zhongli, Diluc, Kaeya, Albedo and Sucrose reacted to the message with 👍

Lisa sighed as she locked her phone. She was planning on getting some coursework prep done tonight. What a bummer.

She was secretly relishing in the idea of procrastinating with her friends over some drinks, but she knew Jean would pester her about getting her work done later. Sometimes, she can never win.

She put the phone aside, concentrating on flipping her pancakes. The scent of sizzling butter was wafting through the kitchen, the saccharine smell of the syrup she was using adding the necessary incentive to draw her wife from under her mass of blankets.

She heard her before she saw her, padding towards her, probably wearing those slippers she liked so much, the ones that looked like little bunnies. She heard her yawn, softly, her heart absolutely melting in her chest.

No, right. She was mad. She was mad. She wasn’t going to cave just because Jean usually looked so adorable in her bunny slippers and the hoodies she wore to bed, too big for her, probably stolen from Diluc’s closet at some point.

She steeled herself, preparing for a hug from behind. She wasn’t going to melt into the embrace. She would resist that sorceress.

“Morning,” Jean muttered, settling into a chair instead.

Lisa blinked. No morning snuggles? That was out of character.

She turned to look at her wife, eyebrow arched in confusion.

“Are you feeling alright, dear?” She asked, the worry seeping into her voice before she could stop it. She took in Jean’s hunched over posture, the bags under her eyes, her disheveled hair that somehow still looked perfect, and so damn attractive.

“I’m fine, don’t worry. I’m just really tired,” Jean smiled at her, and Lisa forgot all about their little squabble this morning. She crossed the room, dropping in front of her wife in a matter of seconds.

Jean’s hand immediately went to her hair, combing through her tangled chestnut locks, a soft smile of reassurance on her face.

“Jean, please. If something is the matter, we’ll go to the hospital. Don’t force yourself to tough it out.”

Jean laughed, light and loving, and Lisa smiled hesitatingly in return. “I’m afraid I’m not toughing out anything, Darling. I’m just honestly tired. Sleeping with another person moving inside you makes for a truly restless night.”

Lisa blinked. Right. Right. She had somehow completely zapped that her wife being tired could just be that— tiredness, because she was pregnant. She wasn’t dying or sick or—

“Lisa? Darling, are you okay?” Jean raised an eyebrow, her hand stilling in Lisa’s hair.

Lisa snapped out of her daze, trying to shake the dark scenarios from her mind. It was so hard not to worry, not when Jean was who she was. Jean, who once toughed out appendicitis, finally agreeing to go to the hospital when she vomited for the twelfth time that evening.

“I’m worried. I— I should be—“ She tried to articulate how guilty she felt that this was a pain she could do nothing to alleviate, that her wife was going through this for them, for their little family.

Jean just smiled, and kissed Lisa on the crown of her head. “You’re already doing so much, Darling. Don’t worry.”

Lisa nodded, resolute. Everything was great. She bent her head, resting it on Jean’s lap, gently bumping it against her stomach.

Everything was perfect.

Zhongli, 4:21 pm: Do you need us to bring anything Lisa?

Childe, 4:21 pm: dang, missed it by a minute, what a bummer

Zhongli, 4:22 pm: What do you mean, Childe?

Beidou, 4:22 pm: 420 whatcha smokin

Jean, 4:25 pm: Hello everyone! Zhongli, please you’re enough :) Don’t feel obligated to bring anything!

Kaeya, 4:25 pm: HI JEAN!!1!!1!!11

Childe, 4:26 pm: fuck jean you’re so wholesome

Jean, 4:27 pm: Hi Kaeya!

Kaeya, 4:28 pm: JEAN I BOUGHT THIS REALLY CUTE ONESIE FOR THE BABY OKAY YOURE GONNA LOVE IT

Jean, 4:28 pm: Aww, thank you! I’m sure I will :) I’m looking forward to seeing all of you this evening!

“At what time will the family be here?” Lisa asked, chopping onions, her eyes puffy and her nose runny. She sniffled for the hundredth time, making Jean laugh from next to her.

They had argued for half an hour about who should make dinner, ultimately deciding on just doing it together. Lisa hadn’t wanted Jean to overexert herself, and Jean had insisted that her pizza dough was superior to Lisa’s, a fact which Lisa agreed with.

Kneading the dough was just a tiring process, and honestly, Lisa was scared. What activity was too much for pregnant women? When was she underestimating her wife, and when was she truly right to be worried? She didn’t know, which was why she had settled on a healthy medium: assuming that everything was too much. She would do everything herself, and that was that. Jean, naturally, disagreed. It had sparked a multitude of debates, ranging from ’I can drive myself to work, damn it’ to ’are you seriously going to bathe me’.

The bathing thing turned out to be more fun than expected, especially when the scrubbing turned to kissing, but still— Lisa was a worrier.

“They said 7 pm, though you know them. They’ll be on our doorstep an hour or so before,” Jean laughed as she measured the flour, pouring it slowly over the mixture in the bowl in front of her.

She truly was a natural at cooking, especially at making pizza, which was why Lisa had been given the chore of chopping up the veggies and preparing the pizza toppings. She felt like a child who had wanted to help her mother, and been given the easiest job to do, which annoyed her to no end.

“Can I please do something other than chopping onions?” She whined, blinking out the tears in her eyes. She probably looked like a mess.

“You can make the sauce, if you want,” Jean giggled at the sight in front of her, approaching Lisa, her gaze jokingly smoldering. “You’re so attractive when you’re chopping onions. You looking like you’ve just ingested a kilo of cocaine is my weakness.”

Lisa glared, her tears flowing harder. “Bold words for someone who doesn’t have a knife right now.”

Jean’s fake sultry demeanor dropped, booping Lisa on the nose gently. “I’d disarm you in a matter of seconds.” She leaned closer, her lips brushing Lisa’s as soft as butterfly wings.

Lisa smiled into the kiss, and made a move to close the distance between them, when something poked her side.

“Now, what were you saying, about bold words?” Jean smirked, her forehead resting against Lisa’s, the knife that had previously been in Lisa’s hand now turned against her.

Lisa blinked. Jean took a step back, flipping the knife in her hand, extending its handle to Lisa.

The brunette took it, still processing what had happened.

“H-How—“

Jean just smiled at her, going back to her dough.

“She raised a knife on me!” Lisa’s indignant tone was louder than usual, probably because of all the alcohol in her system.

The group of people sitting in her living room laughed. Zhongli was sitting next to Ningguang, like he usually did, while Beidou was sitting on the other side of the blonde. How she had managed to accumulate such a harem, Lisa didn’t know.

Childe was sprawled on their rug, blackout drunk and occasionally chiming here and there with an anecdote.

Diluc and Kaeya were each sitting on an armchair, Diluc drinking juice while Kaeya sipped on some wine. They were in a good mood today, not even arguing once over dinner.

Albedo and Sucrose were sitting next to each other, hand in hand, a light blush dusting their cheeks. Sucrose was a new addition to their group. She was Albedo’s colleague, the newest teacher in the Science department. He had taken it upon himself to show her the reigns the first few weeks she had been at the university, and had fallen head over heels for her in the process. The young woman was just as whipped. It was so endearing, Lisa thought. They were the only straight people she tolerated.

“To be fair,” Jean said from next to her, a glass of wine in hand, the only drink she’s had that night, her face radiant with happiness, “she was so easy to distract.”

Diluc snorted. “You’ve always been the best of us at martial arts, Jeanie.”

Childe propped himself up on one arm. “Wait, you know martial arts?”

“Some,” Kaeya rolled his eyes at the memory. “We took the courses together, when we were younger. Jean always beat our asses, remember, Diluc?”

“Clear as day,” the redhead agreed, and Jean huffed at them.

“Not my fault that you’re incompetent.”

Kaeya gasped, and Diluc put a hand over his chest in indignation.

Lisa laughed. She loved these people so much. She didn’t have much of a family growing up, but them— her colleagues, her friends filled that void so wonderfully. She still couldn’t believe how surrounded and loved she was. She had the most beautiful wife in the world, a baby on the way, and a group of people who would be there for her no matter what. She was so, so damn lucky.

Ningguang cleared her throat, her wine-red eyes roaming over Lisa and Jean, playful. “Though, I bet it wasn’t training that made Lisa so easy to disarm, was it, Jean?” She drawled, her voice sultry and full of innuendos.

Jean choked on her wine. Collective gagging echoed throughout the living room.

Yes, she was the luckiest woman in the world.
