Work Text:
Douma lays on the floor, unsure of where he is. He tries to move, but he can't. All that is left of him is his head.
Someone stands in front of him. They pick up his head, and he recognizes the person as the insect pillar. She holds him sideways in her palm.
"Oh… you finally died? Good."
Rainbow eyes stare into violet eyes. They are soft, no longer showing deep rooted hatred for him. There is a small smile present on her face.
"Now I too can rest in peace."
Douma smiles back at her. The two stare at each other, and he feels his face heating up. He has never felt this before.
He tries to remember her name, "Ah… you're Shinobu, right? Or Kanae?" He asks her. The grip she holds on him grows stronger at the names. She closes her eyes and widens her smile.
"Oh that's all right. You don't have to remember. My big sister or me. You make me sick, so don't say my name."
Douma thinks for a second. The sister who holds him now is Shinobu. He is sure of it.
"But I must know your name!" He still pleads with her, "I must know the name of the person who has poisoned and killed me!"
She opens her eyes again, and the hatred is back. Douma can once again feel his face heat up. Shinobu stares at him, "That poison… I had hoped to kill you myself, but I am glad that my successor had finished you off."
He frowns at that. Those children were not the ones to kill him. She had been. He closes his own eyes, "I have to disagree with you. Those children just only sped up the process. You, Shinobu, were the one to kill me."
Nails dig into his skin when he says her name. He smiles at the pain, and wishes for more.
"Shinobu, you are making me experience human emotion. This entire thing is so new to me. Is this what people call love."
Her eyes widen even more, and the smile falls from her face, "You make me feel disgusted," she says, the politeness in her voice shaking.
"Admit it, you are hopelessly in love with me! You filled yourself with poison just for me! If there is one thing I learned from my human life, it is that in order to truly love someone, you must kill them! Shinobu, I killed you and you killed me! It must be fate!"
Her nails dig into his skin even more, and it breaks his skin. Warm blood drips down her hand and falls on the floor, "You are confusing hate and love. I despise you with every fiber of my being. I will never love you."
He blushes. She is madly in love with him. The thought of them being together makes him laugh. He wants her.
"Shinobu, if we weren't doomed to our tragic lives of demon and demon slayer, I truly do believe our love would've been a story to pass down for generations."
"You make me sick."
Douma feels his non-existent heart beat. He really is experiencing love, "Let us be together in our next life."
She drops him, but before he can hit the floor, his body grows back. He now stands over her. He brings a hand to her face, running a nail on her cheek.
There is a look of fear in her eyes, but he watches as she copies him, putting a small hand on his face. He leans into it, wanting more of her.
"Shinobu, come to Hell with me," he whispers, then he pulls her into a kiss. He is surprised when she doesn't fight back. Instead, she kisses him back for a moment.
Just a moment.
Then, he is stabbed. But he doesn't care. He deepens the kiss, wanting more of her, wanting to devour her all over again. He can smell the wisteria that circulates through her body, and it's intoxicating.
She pushes him away with her blade, which has stabbed him through his chest. He wants more of her, but he stays away.
"After you, you worthless bastard," she tells him, and he goes, thinking that she will follow him.
Shinobu stand salone in the abyss. She thinks about him and his words.
Maybe he is right. If they hadn't been doomed to the lives of demon and demon slayer, then maybe she would have loved him.
Maybe if she could forgive his sins, then she could love him.
Shinobu laughs to herself. She could never love a man like Douma.
After all, she makes him sick.
