"People say that two Alpha can't be together."
Why? Because nature says so. When two Alpha comes into contact, they feel extremely uncomfortable. Alpha's scent may attract Omega and make Omega happy, but it makes another Alpha angry and just want to stay away. Usually, only Alpha born into the same family can interact with each other without feeling uncomfortable.
Haru is an Alpha, and so is Daisuke. So when Daisuke came to work at MCPTF, everyone expected Haru and Daisuke to dislike each other, perhaps there would be controversy. Forgot to mention, ninety-nine points eight percent of the population is Beta, so Alpha and Omega are too rare. Two Alpha working together at MPCTF, which is known as the office of discarded people, had been a hot topic for a long time.
What does Haru think of Daisuke? Well, at first he hated Daisuke because of his prideful face and arrogant attitude, but after he solved Sayuri's case with Daisuke, he no longer hated him. At least no longer hating, but to say that he wanted to continue working with an Alpha partner, Haru wasn't sure.
"People say Alpha never makes a mistake, but I made a mistake while working."
That day, when transferring to the MCPTF, Haru looked like a dead person (Kamei said), but somehow since working with Daisuke, even though the two quarreled all day long, everyone could see Haru seemed more alive than before. Haru shows no concern for everyone's curiosity because it's a secret to him. In fact, ever since he learned that Daisuke wasn't as perfect as he looked, that he had made many mistakes too, Haru felt that the two of them seemed more alike than he had thought.
"We have all been losers."
Haru is still the same, he still hates the scent that Daisuke gives off, he still hates the unpleasant feelings when being around Daisuke, he hates being a partner of another Alpha, but he chooses to return the police badge to Daisuke, and continue his life with the Adollium cases coming in every day. Haru doesn't know if he was right to do so, but as time passed, Haru gradually realized he and Daisuke were close as everyone said, "You two truly stick together, aren't you?" and sometimes Haru thought they were friends, something that very rare two Alpha could become.
Haru heard Suzue say that Daisuke loves fireflies, and when they were little, Suzue used to put fireflies in jars and hide under the blanket with Daisuke to admire them. So, Haru secretly prepared a present he is sure Daisuke would like for his birthday.
"Why go in my room and close all the doors like that? Isn't your gift a bomb or something?" Daisuke teases.
Haru doesn't answer Daisuke, instead orders HEUSC to turn off the light.
As soon as HEUSC turns off all the lights in the room, Haru opens the huge box that was placed on top of Daisuke's bed, and the fireflies carrying sparkling light fly out like the dawn in the middle of the night.
Daisuke widens his eyes as he watches the fireflies fly across his room. His room was like a starry night, more splendid than ever.
"One thousand fireflies. Do you like this gift?" Haru smiles brightly. He really is looking forward to Daisuke's response.
The light from the fireflies isn't enough for Daisuke to see Haru's face clearly but he can see his beautiful smile. He suddenly feels his heart beating fast, and he doesn't know what to say.
Seeing Daisuke looking at the floor, Haru worriedly walks over in front of him. Daisuke grabs Haru's sleeve and whispers, "This is the greatest present I've ever received, Haru..."
Haru falls silent. He looks at Daisuke, then slowly hugs him.
"Every day, I understand him a little more."
Daisuke hugs Haru back. He lightly inhales the scent of Haru, a gentle scent like cherry blossoms, although feeling a little uncomfortable, he still lets Haru's scent cover him. Haru suddenly realizes that Daisuke is releasing his scent (probably because he is happy, Haru thinks), and he has no choice but to put his face in his hair to smell the expensive shampoo. Haru feels that was better because Daisuke's scent is like money mixed with the cigarette. Yes, an Alpha has a scent that smelled like money, and Haru is allergic to money of any kind. Feeling Haru rub his head in his hair, Daisuke blushes and loses control even further with releasing the scent. The two start to feel stuffy and have to awkwardly separate from each other and leave the room together.
But... "Today, I get close to him a little more..."
As time passed, everyone at MCPTF starts to turn from teasing Daisuke and Haru too close to each other to joking that the two of them looked good together, and maybe if the two Alpha in MCPTF were to date, it would be a piece of shocking news all over the country. It's not like two Alpha's dating have been unprecedented, it's just too rare, not to mention that the Kambe family's influence in the world isn't small. At first, when Kamei teased Haru looked like Daisuke's fiancé, he ignored Kamei and continued to work. But when Saeki asks whether Daisuke and Haru are actually dating, Haru replies, “Seriously! Both him and I are Alpha, two Alpha can't be around for a long time. Plus, two Alpha can't have children, only male Omega can get pregnant. How on Earth can we date?"
And Daisuke immediately walks out of the office.
Kamei sighs as he sees Daisuke's rare anger, and Saeki can only give a pity smile. Haru is confused, but he assumes that Daisuke was just upset about something else so he stops talking about this.
That's right, although two Alpha's dating has precedent, the protest and the stigma from people when they come out is terrible. Anyway, most Alpha will have children as Alpha, so to maintain the small number of Alpha in this world, all Alpha have the health care benefits as well as find the right person to become their mate service for free. "Two Alpha being together is a waste," said a certain doctor, and that statement still exists somewhere in teenage magazines. But Daisuke doesn't care about these things, which he feels ridiculous, he just wants to do things that made him comfortable even as the whole world is looking at his every action and gesture.
However, if Haru couldn't accept him, Daisuke would never say his feelings.
Daisuke knows that two Alpha being together would only make each other uncomfortable. Daisuke knows that two Alpha couldn't have children and there is nothing good if they manage to be together. Daisuke knows that two Alpha ain't meant to be.
But knowing so then what? If Daisuke could control his feelings, he thought maybe he wouldn't have to choose to love someone he shouldn't.
Daisuke exhales deeply, letting the strong wind on the roof hit him. He lights a cigar, telling himself that after finishing smoking this cigar, he will calm down.
