Chapter Text
The brunette shoved her face into her pillow, her brown hair sprawled all over her pillow in a brown mess. She lied in bed, fully awake, looking like she was trying the force herself back to bed. The last time she had checked the time on her clock it was 5 AM.
The girl lifted her head for the third time since she had woken up and forced her brown eyes to focus on her Eevee clock that sat beside her bed.
The clock blinked 5:05 AM.
Only five minutes passed!
The brunette let out a groan in frustration. Giving up on sleeping, she threw her blankets on the floor and stood up in a somewhat lazy manner.
The room was pitch black dark, because of this the pale-skinned girl was forced to slowly walk over to the wall and feel it until her the shape of the light switch found its way to her hand. When she felt what she was looking for, no time was wasted as she quickly flicked it on.
The artificial light stung her eyes, causing her to squint as she struggled to get her eyes to adjust to the sudden harsh light.
After a few moments, her eyes adjusted and she turned around, opening her bedroom door and beginning to head towards the bathroom, not realising that her mother's Leafeon was lying down on the floor in the middle hallway.
And she tripped over her.
"WOAH!" Was all that came out the brunette's mouth in utter surprise as she landed face-first on the floor.
And Arceus did that hurt!
"LEAF!" The Grass Type Eeveelotion yelped in complete surprise from being woken up in such a manner jumping up and standing in a battle-ready stance, attempting to figure out who her sudden attacker was. After a moment she soon noticed who her attacker was and ran over to the brunette's face, tilting her head in concern and confusion. "Leafeon?"
"I'm fine Serenity." The girl grumbled, slowly sitting up and running her hand over her face, only slightly annoyed.
A moment later, her mother's door quickly opened and, the head of a woman with black hair poked out of her room in confusion, her green eyes quickly locking on her daughter who sat on the floor. "What's going on Rose?" She asked in a tired-sounding voice, stifling a small yawn.
"Sorry," Rose grumbled, removing her hand from her face to look at her tired mother. "I woke up and tripped over Miss Serenity." Rose half laughed, and half groaned as she glanced over at the grass type who was giving the brunette a nervous smile.
That was just an AMAZING wake-up call Serenity!
"Okay, sweetie." She yawned in exhaustion, not sounding too interested having been woken up so early because of the fall. "Don't be too loud please." She spoke again before ducking her head back into her room, leaving it open for a moment so Serenity could run into her room before she shut the door.
Rose finally stood up off the floor with a grunt of annoyance and continued towards the bathroom located at the end of the only hall of their one-story house.
When the brunette reached the bathroom she opened the door slowly, attempting not to make a lot of noise, then shut it behind her before looking at her reflection in the mirror.
There were slightly dark bags under her light brown eyes, and the girl's long, brown hair was still tied up in a low (now knotted) ponytail.
Rose slowly untied her hair, still tired from waking up so early, and placed the purple hair tie on the bathroom counter before shaking out her messy hair.
She remained in the bathroom for about an hour. Taking a shower, and getting ready for the rest of this not-eventful-at-all day.
Walking back into her bedroom with a towel wrapped around her. She retrieved her light pink sleeveless shirt with a PokéBall on it and red skirt, most would call this outfit almost childish, but the brunette adored it to no end.
After getting changed, Rose walked back into the bathroom, picking up her red, heart-shaped clip off the counter and clipping it at the root of where her side bangs started at the top of her head on the left.
After being in the bathroom for another ten minutes, making sure her now straight hair was perfect. Rose finally stepped out of the bathroom and walked back into her room to check the time, her digital Eevee clock blinked the time; 6:20 AM.
Walking back out of her room, she headed to the living room, With nothing else to do, she sat down on the couch and picked up the T.V remote before turning on the T.V and beginning to flip through the channels in boredom. She did this for a few minutes before her eyes caught a rerun of one of Champion Cynthia's heated battles. Seeing that this was the best she was going to get this early in the morning, Rose set the remote down on the side table beside the couch before beginning to watch the exciting battle.
It was around nine when Rose had heard the word "Breakfast" come out of her mother's mouth from the kitchen.
With nothing better to do, the brunette ended up sitting on the couch, watching Pokémon battles for who knows how long. The only thing different from earlier was that Serenity was now curled up on her lap.
Pokémon battles have always fascinated the girl, they looked so much fun to her. But she was already thirteen, and still wasn't allowed to have a Pokémon of her own, or allowed and start her own journey. The teen had tried asking her mother countless times. Every time resulting in an almost distressed face and a no.
It wasn't like her mother didn't go on a journey at one point in her life. It was clear by the 8 Sinnoh gym badges she left on display above the T.V on a shelf.
Rose poked the now sleeping Leafeon's back, earning a grumble of annoyance from the grass type.
"Time to go eat." The girl spoke to the eeveelution, causing the grass type's ears to instantly perk.
Serenity quickly jumped off Rose's lap as she had begun to move to stand up and trotted in the kitchen, causing Rose to giggle in amusement.
By the time she finally stepped into the kitchen, Serenity had her face stuffed into a green bowl filled with pokémon food made especially for grass-type Pokémon.
Rose sat down on the table across from her mom, who had placed a plate of Oran berry waffles on a plate for her daughter. "Thanks!" Rose smiled up at her mother before she began to eat.
Both mother and daughter sat in a comfortable silence as they ate for a few moments before her mother, Lilith suddenly spoke, sounding a bit hesitant. "Rose, I need you to do me a favour" Rose looked up at her mother curious as she continued. "I need you to go visit Professor Rowan today."
Rose had just put the last piece of her waffle in her mouth, causing the poor girl to almost choking in surprise, but quickly swallowed to avoid showing the shock.
Sure, she knew that Professor Rowan and her mom were friends. They went to visit him sometimes. But Rose wasn't even allowed to leave Twinleaf town by herself (not that it ever really stopped her), and her mother sounded like she was implying the brunette was going on my own.
"W-wait-" Rose said, almost tripping over her words while she tried to sort out what her mom just said in her brain. "Do you mean by myself?"
Rose's mother gave her a hesitant nod, looking like she hated the idea, but continued talking anyway. "He told me that he wanted to speak with you." She hesitated again, but not for long this time as she quickly began speaking again. "I don't know why, but I can't come with you." She added quickly.
Rose stared at her in confusion, raising an eyebrow as she waited for her mother to continue.
"And since there is a lot of wild Pokémon in the area." She continued, not explaining her reasoning. "I want you to have Serenity accompany you until you get back." Lilith finally finished.
Rose glanced down at Serenity who raised her head in confusion, her mouth stuffed with Pokémon Food, one of the drool cover pellets falling out her mouth and onto the floor as she starred in confusion, not sure as to why her name was spoken.
Rose and her mother laughed in amusement as Serenity shrugged it off and eagerly turned back to her food.
After a moment of thought, Rose finally looked back at her mother, holding back a squeal in excitement. "Okay."
Not long after Rose's mother told her she wanted her to go see Professor Rowan, The brunette helped her mother wash the dishes and clean the table. She was now standing at the front door wearing her favourite light pink boots what went perfectly with her current pink and red outfit.
Serenity was now starring at Rose in amusement as she stood in front of the small mirror her mom kept by the front door on the wall, fussing over some slightly messy hair from being pressed up on the couch all morning.
After a few moments of that, Lilith walked over to the door to the sight of her daughter attempting to fix her hair and gave me a snort in amusement, causing the teen's attention to be brought away from the mirror and onto her mother.
"Your hair looks fine Rose." Her mother smiled as Rose snorted in response.
Before Rose could reply, her mother walked over to her daughter and pulled her shorter body into a hug.
"I want both of you to be safe okay?" Her mom whispered, pulling away from the short hug not long after her daughter returned it.
"Don't worry we will!" The teen answered in excitement at finally being able to leave the house on her own for once.
"Leafeon!" The eeveelution chirped its name, flicking its tail in excitement, knowing exactly what was going on.
"We'll be back soon!" Rose exclaimed, quickly opening the door, almost hitting Serenity in the face with it.
The Leafeon paid no mind to almost getting hit as she pranced out the front door, taking in the fresh air.
"Have fun!" Rose's mother smiled and waved as both Rose and Serenity left for Sandgem Town.
The brunette has always loved Sandgem Town with almost a passion. It was never a big city, but it wasn't a small town either.
Both Rose and Serenity went towards the Professors Pokémon lab, it was the biggest building in the entire city, standing out like a sore thumb compared to everything else.
Serenity followed her trainer's daughter at her heels as they headed up towards the Pokémon lab's doors and the brunette rang the doorbell that was beside the door.
A faint "I'm coming" could be heard from behind the door, and after a moment it swung open to reveal a young, black-haired man with a white lab coat standing in the doorway. "Hello, are you here to see the professor?" He asked with a somewhat smug tone, almost like he was trying to show off all while fixing his lab coat.
"Urm.. yes....." Rose trailed off slightly, not used to coming here on her own. She also didn't recognize the man, so it was assumed by both girl and pokémon he just started working with Professor Rowan not too long ago.
Rose shot a quick glance towards her mother Leafeon who just rolled her eyes at the researcher's pathetic attitude.
The guy snorted, only speaking the words "Follow me" before leading Rose and Serenity into the laboratory and towards a door by the front of the building. The man knocked on the door, and when he spoke he sounded like a completely different person.
"A girl named Rose has come to see you." He spoke, his voice sounding layered in respect, causing Serenity to snort, not looking amused. Earning a glare from the man, looking frustrated with us.
"Let her in." A deep voice could be heard from the other side of the door.
He nodded to Rose to go in and quickly took the chance to walk away from the girl and Pokémon, most likely eager to get back to the lab.
Rose looked down at Serenity who just nudged the teen's leg in response, urging her to open the door, which she did shortly after and stepped into Professor Rowan's office.
"Welcome back Rose," The old man said to the girl with a bright smile. "It's nice to see you again!"
The Professor was seated on a black leather chair with wheels behind a wooden desk with an old computer on it. On the opposite side of the desk there sat two other black leather chairs that just sat flat on the floor with no wheels.
Rose smiled as she sat down on a chair across from Professor Rowan and Serenity jumped on her lap instead of the chair beside me, sitting down so she could see the Professor.
"It's nice to see you again." Rose smiled, the eeveelution nodding in agreement.
The Professor nodded, resting the papers he had been holding in his hand on his desk and looking at Rose. "So, there is a reason why I asked for your mother to send you here on your own." He started, watching the teen intently.
'That explained why my mom said she couldn't come.' Rose thought to herself. But instead of speaking, she kept her mouth shut and waited for him to continue.
"I talked with your mother countless times." He started again, watching the expression on the teen's face. "And she has finally agreed that it was about time you got your first Pokémon and started your own journey."
Rose was dumbstruck, in complete shock. She was frozen in my spot for a moment, earning a nudge from Serenity, causing her to gain her composer to speak.
"I-I'm sorry but is this a joke?" The teen asked with a stutter, almost tripping on her words yet again for the second time today. "My mom told me I wasn't allowed.." she silently muttered to myself.
Rose was thirteen years old, meaning it's been three years since she has been qualified to get her own Pokémon. But when she had asked on her tenth birthday, she was told it was too dangerous for her to do so, with no explication as to why.
She always wanted to know why. Her mother did it. Why couldn't she?
Or at least Rose wasn't until now.
Professor Rowan just gave Rose a short nod before standing up and beckoning the excited teen to follow him out of his office and into the actual lab.
Serenity eagerly jumped out her lap as she stood up, running ahead of both Professor Rowan and Rose as she followed him out the room. Serenity knew this place like the tip of her tail.
The three walked into the large lab, it had a few machines in it, followed by a few scientists/researchers. In the middle of the room sat a small table with three PokéBalls on it and a light purple PokéDex.
Professor Rowan walked over to the table, to which Serenity sat, waiting for the two.
As Rose walked over to the table, the Professor picked up the purple-coloured PokéDex.
"Here is your PokéDex, this will help you on your journey by identifying Pokémon for you, and helping you learn more about them. You can also scan Pokémon and PokéBalls to figure out what moves the Pokémon knows and how strong the Pokémon is."
Rose gave him a short nod, accepting the PokéDex in her hand as he then picked up the PokéBalls.
"And these are the three Sinnoh starters you can choose from." He let all the three Pokémon out of their red and white PokéBalls.
"This is Piplup." He started, gesturing to the adorable, blue penguin Pokémon as it puffed out its chest in pride towards Rose.
In curiosity, Rose crouched down in front of the water type and opened her new PokéDex, pointing it at the Piplup and it began to speak.
"Piplup, the Penguin Pokémon. Although not the most sure-footed, it is proud nonetheless, getting right back up after a fall with head held high." The PokéDex stated.
"Pip-! Piplup! Pip!" It chirped proudly.
"This is Chimchar." Professor Rowan spoke, moving to the fire monkey Pokémon who was jumping up and down with its arms in the air.
Rose then turned to Chimchar, using her PokéDex to scan the fire type this time.
"Chimchar, the Chimp Pokémon. Chimchar easily climbs the sheerest of walls and lives on mountain tops. When it sleeps, its flames go out." The PokéDex informed.
"Chim Chim Char Char Char!" The energetic fire type cheered, pumping its fists in the air.
"And last but not least" The professor started on the last Sinnoh starter. "This is Turtwig." He said pointing to the tiny turtle Pokémon who looked up and smiled at Rose calmly.
The brunette shifted on her knees slightly, her legs starting to feel a bit numb. But despite that, she pointed the PokéDex at the adorable grass type.
"Turtwig, the Tiny Leaf Pokémon. Its shell is made out of the earth and when it absorbs water, it becomes harder." The PokéDex finished explaining the final Sinnoh starter.
"Turtwig Tur!" It called happily.
"They are all so cute!" Rose exclaimed, sitting up to finally let the blood drain back down to her now numb legs.
"Leafeon Leaf!" The girl's mother's Leafeon stared at her, giving Rose a death glare.
"Your cute too." Rose smiled, reaching down and petting the female Leafeons head, receiving a content sigh from the Leafeon in return.
Rose then turned and sat down on the floor, look at the starters who watched her eager in anticipation.
"I think I'm going to go with..."
Rose paused for a moment, making sure she thought her decision through before making her choice public to everyone in the room.
"I'm going with Turtwig!" Rose finally spoke and looked at the tiny turtle Pokémon who gazed at her looking quite surprised.
Professor Rowan nodded, a small smile on his face. "Quite a nice choice." He spoke as he returned the two other starters, who were looking a bit upset to their PokéBalls before handing Rose Turtwigs.
The Professor then reached into his lab coat, producing five shrunken and empty PokéBalls.
"Here are you some extra PokéBalls that will help you catch Pokémon on your journey, you can also buy some if you run out." He explained as Rose took the PokéBalls in her hand then placed them in one of the two pockets she has on her skirt. Along with the PokéDex and Blasts now shrunken Pokéball.
"Thank you so much!" Rose exclaimed, attempting not to get overly excited.
With another thank you, Rose scooped the grass-type starter up in her arms, leaving the lab with the Turtwig and Serenity.
As they were walking back to Twinleaf Town, it was quite silent until Rose got an idea.
"Do you mind if I give you a nickname?" The teen asked with a smile down to the adorable Turtwig.
"Turtwig!" He cooed, nuzzling the brunette's face. and making her smile.
As they walked, Rose tried her best to think of a nickname for the starter.
"How about..." She thought out loud for a moment. "Blast?" She asked curiously, liking the name.
"Turtwig! Tur!" The small grass type agreed with its new trainer in excitement, Serenity watching them with a happy smile on her face.
"Blast it is then!" Rose said, happiness coating the tone of her as the group began to approach Twinleaf Town.
