Chapter Text

(Y/n) was quietly humming to herself, flittering around the kitchen as she hurried to finish up baking. Her clothing was dusted with flour, her hair tied back in a messy plat, bare feet thumping on the wooden flooring as she danced to her imaginary song. The window was open, letting in a cool breeze that wafted the homely smell of fresh bread out into the streets. Her mother called out from the back.
“(Y/n), it’s time to open!”
The girl replied to her mother with a simple 'Alright!' Before heading for the door.
She twisted the lock, which opened with a loud ‘click’, before she hauled the heavy wooden door toward herself, propping it open to invite customers in.

It wasn’t long before the small store was bustling with people. Many older women, mothers of course, and young children running errands filled the room, buying their usual freshly baked bread. The mornings were always busy.

Yet as the day wore on, the customers began to thin. At lunchtime, (Y/n) was behind the counter, staring aimlessly out the window. Her mother and father were out running their own errands, delivering their baked goods and visiting the markets.

So it came as a surprise when a baffled looking boy hesitantly stepped into the store. His hair was a blazing red, unnaturally spiked up. His clothing was ragged with a few tears, but looked like nothing she had ever seen. The boy sheepishly approached. “Welcome, what can I get for you?” (Y/n) offered a smile, bowing her head in greeting.
“Well- uhh- I just need some bread.” The girl nodded. “Sure, please excuse me for a second.” She hurried to the back, prepping the ovens for a new batch of bread. She caught sight of his red hair, drawing her attention back to her unusual customer. She peered at him from the doorway.
He simply looked around, wandering around the store as he observed the various pieces of furniture. (Y/n) caught the glint of steel from the sun streaming through the window. The stranger was carrying two long daggers.

The redhead suddenly shot around, gaze meeting hers. They froze for a moment, simply staring at each other. (Y/n) took a few steps forward, bare feet curled against the wooden flooring.
“S-sorry… but-ah- you’re not from around here, right?” She asked, voice quiet.
“It’s that obvious, isn’t it?” The redhead laughed. “Where do you come from? I’ve never seen anyone dressed like you.” He seemed to light up, walking closer. “Me and my buddy are travellers! We’re on an adventure!” He proudly stated. The (h/c) haired girl nearly launched herself over the counter. “Really? Please please please, tell me about your journey!”

The redhead, who (Y/n) finally learnt was named Kirishima, seemed surprised at her request, but soon enough he found himself recollecting his journey and adventures, with (Y/n) being totally enthralled, hanging off each and every word.

Kirishima was aware of the strange and sharp glances he got when walking through town, and he certainly received some when customers came in and saw him sitting on the floor chatting with (Y/n). But seeing the girl smiling so widely, eyes glittering with excitement, caused him to disregard all his concerns. It was rare for both him and Bakugo not to be chased out of town, let alone meet someone who wasn’t even cautious of him.

They spoke late into the afternoon, both silently ignoring the darkening sky outside. (Y/n) new her parents had come home hours ago, but they had yet to disturb them. However, it was clear Kirishimas partner didn’t have the same ideals.

“Oi!”
The two teens jumped to their feet, startled by the sudden loud noise. Standing in the doorway was a tall blonde boy with spiky hair. He was glowering as he stomped toward Kirishima. “Why are you still here, shitty hair! I thought you could at least do something as simple as get some bread, for fucks sake!” Kirishima put his hands up in mock defence, leaning away from the brewing blonde. “Ahh, sorry Bakugo. I got uhh…” his gaze flicked to (Y/n), smiling as the girl suppressed a laugh. “I don’t care, let’s fucking go already!” He shot a deadly glare at the girl before storming back out the door.

“And I thought you were exaggerating. He really would give a troll a run for its money.”
Laughter filled the air and the tension from the previous interaction melted away. Kirishima picked up the bread he discarded hours ago, sighing as he dawdled towards the door. “I should get going… I’ll uh… see you again, right?” He quirked an eyebrow, looking as if he was holding his breath. (Y/n) smiled. “Of course. I’ll always be here.”

Kirishima returned the smile, his pointy shark teeth on full display. “Alright, I’ll see you soon then.” He gave a quick wave before striding out the door after his companion.

“Yeah. See you soon, Kirishima.”
