Work Text:

Kars opens his bright red hues slowly, exhaling heavily through his nose and shifting a little amongst the silky covers of the huge bed he was currently occupying. Each and every day when he awakens from slumber that's merely a five minute nap and useless for him; he wonders, thinks, about how much his long life had changed over the course of just a few months - an incredibly short time, really. Just half a year ago, he was taking part in a deadly battle between his kind, the pillarmen, and a few silly, hamon-wielding humans. Upon looking back at those events, he deems himself stupid and irrational - he could've easily killed them and get it all over with. He could destroy humanity in it's entirety, he could rule the world and save it from human's dirty paws. All could be well. All could be perfect. Alas... He's not saying it's not. Amongst the chaos, the havoc, the fights and bloodspill, the ultimate lifeform had found his very own piece of perfection and joy, all bundled up within a mere human.

Said human was... Unusual. Throughout the entirety of his life, Kars always saw people as nasty, violent creatures that destroyed everything in their path for their own gain. They were merciless, not afraid to ruin flower fields, to kill animals, or even to fight each other which often also resulted in death. Now, Kars was never a saint himself, but he'd never harm an animal or step on a little plant - ruining mother earth was worse and more inhumane than even he could imagine. However, amongst all those cruel beings he met, there was him. A human, an albino, with appearance so unusual it was hard to believe he was real. But appearance wasn't the only thing that seemed to drag the deity towards said human named Marcus; it was more so his nature, which was calm, full of empathy and not at all similar to the two hamon users he teamed up with. Marcus helped Joseph and Caesar out, saved their asses a few times, yes; however he was never keen on violence. Every chance he got, he tried to talk everythng out, tried to make it all alright for both sides and it was clear he never wanted anyone to get hurt, let alone get killed. At first, Kars saw him as pathetic for he himself believed that, in order to reach his goals, violence was the only way out and through. He openly laughed in his face, threatened him, and even harmed him a few times - hell, he nearly killed him once. And yet, despite all of that, the albino was just not giving up, kept on pushing and trying despite all the odds. At some point in time, when the two groups were not fighting but stayed close enough, he began... hm. He wouldn't exactly call it stalking per say (even though that's kind of what it was); it was more so watching. He was just bothered, curious, intrigued - he wanted to understand what it was about this irritating specimen that made him act so different. The constant lack of malice and violence in Marcus' stance at all times was just off-putting.

He got caught once, and of course, it scared the albino, so he stopped 'visiting' for a while, but returned again some time after, but on that instance, he approached the other male directly when he was sitting outside at night, stargazing. The two started to spend the nights in one another's company quite often since then - both relucant at first, since they were enemies after all. However as time passed and the final fight was nearing, Kars was sort of... Losing interest in it. Just slightly. The two started getting closer, learning things about each other, sharing their views on the world and lots of other subjects. It felt homey, warm, comfortable - things Kars hasn't felt in centuries. Eventually, he found himself envious of the other man - all the stories about Marcus spending time in his garden, sunbathing, travelling... Oh how he wanted that too. How he wanted to feel the Sun's rays on his skin. He stopped seeing the albino at some point, and truly the two saw each other again only when the final battle took place. Joseph and Caesar, both still alive to Kars' distaste, managed to beat Wamuu up so much he was out of comission, so he gladly returned the favor. All that was left was to put an end to Marcus whom, as always, only protected himself and made no attempts to attack. Such an easy win, wasn't it? Well, not really...

Just as he was about to land the final blow on the albino to get rid of him for good, his blade halted in the air. For the first time, he hesitated. He couldn't bring himself to kill him, and he was so incredibly angry at himself. He was merciless, heartless, so why was he hesitating now? He ended up collapsing to his knees then, feeling like an utter failure. All of this, all the fights, all the lives lost, and he couldn't finish it off. He remembers losing composure, yelling and asking what was the other doing to him. Then, he remembers a pair of arms wrap around him, and suddenly, everything felt alright. He never understood the concept of love or care, but he felt something in his heart, something nice, and he knew he wanted to keep that feeling.

Curiously enough, things turned out well; and most of the problems were solved... through talking. How ironic. After a long debate with the woman namd Lisa Lisa, the albino managed to bribe her into lending the stone of aja to the three remaining pillarmen (Santana getting freed from the SPWF); he promised her that they wouldn't be a threat anymore, and if they turned out to be such, he promised to take the blame and punishment personally. That's how the three ultimate lifeforms were born, and just like it was promised, they never caused harm again, for they had no need for such any longer. All was calm. All was good.

As of now, there he was, sharing a bed with the little human - or at least he thought he was, since when he blindly patted the spot beside himself, he found it to be empty. He scoffed at the discovery, but his lips curled into a small smile - he could never catch the other still in bed in the morning, especially nowadays in the early spring. The pillarman pushed himself up and stretched a little, approaching the window and looking out of it just to confirm his suspicions and made his way downstairs shortly after, pushing the balcony door open and peering outside. His suspicions were right, obviously - of course he expected Marcus to be outside at the time, and indeed there he was, staring up at the bright pink sky, slowly raising orange sky, and gentle rain pouring over his form.

Aren't you cold; was what he asked, however the only response he got was mismatched hues staring back at him and a wide smile on the human's freckled, wettened face, with blush staining his cheeks due to the cold of the rain. Kars thought he looked perfect, although Marcus always complained he was far from perfection. Kars refused to believe that and wished the sun would look the other way. The human approached him, grasping onto his hands and dragging him out into the rain; the droplets felt cool on his tan skin, however the awakening sun warmed him up. He'd stare at the sun, but there was a sight far greater right in front of him; the albino drenched in morning rain, grinning wide, with skin illuminated with oranges and pinks, dancing with him amongst the flowers and gracing his ears with a song. When the orb of light finally finished it's way from behind the horizon, Kars halted their dance and placed a hand against the warmth of the albino's cheek; catching his attention. A thumb mindlessly stroked the pale skin whilst he stared down at his little treasure; his small piece of a flower field, his rose petal, his sunshine ray, his soft cloud. His small joy. He leaned down and locked their lips in a soft, gentle kiss - one that he was taught to give only recently.

He never wanted this morning to end. If he could turn back time, he'd gladly spend it like this all over again, and tomorrow, he'd keep pressing rewind. Because finally, at last, he learned what happiness was. And all of this, right here in this very moment, might just be the definiton of it.
