Work Text:

Have you ever wondered how people fall in love?

How we humans define the moment where our hearts beat as one

The same moment where the walls between us disappear

The moment where only each other matters, and no one else.

He floats.

200 feet from the ground, he floats.

Eyes closed, he focused.

Focused on the cool night wind, as they playfully ruffled his hair,  gently caressing his cheeks.

He focused on his surroundings; the affectionate night that sings a soft lullaby.

The rustling of leaves from the tree beside him, the rhythmic chirps of crickets from the ground far from him.

To fly, one must believe that gravity is their enemy, to push forward and oppose whoever in their way.

To float, one must simply let go of their earthly tethers, empty themselves and become wind.

He remains in a state of meditation, feeling the weightlessness under his feet, experiencing the void around him. He floats in eternity, his mind empty as time slipped by.

And then there were two.

The soft rustling of footsteps alerted him of another presence as he slowly opened his eyes. He looked down and there she was, looking at him with eyes so kind he felt undeserving, a smile so pure it could cleanse any’s soul. She didn’t speak a single word; he wouldn’t be able to hear it even if she did, but he came down to her either way. Slowly descending onto the ground his feet made light contact with the soft grass underneath him as gravity welcomed him back.

“Deku-kun.”

“Hey there, Ochako.”

He smiled back at her as he invited her to sit with him. Together they rested their back onto the tall tree, nestled in each other’s company.

“How’s your training going?” she started, breaking the silence between them. Her melodious voice was music to his ears, soothing his heart whenever she speaks.

“It’s going well,” he answered, “I’m able to float naturally without wasting too much energy, but only if I’m fully concentrated. I don’t think I can do it naturally when I’m in battle yet.”

“You’ll get there, you always do,” she replied. He smiled at her words.

“What are the others doing?”

She put a hand under her chin as she tried to recall, ”Last time I checked, Mina was hosting a watch party in the common room, I think half of the class had joined her.”

“If that’s the case then I guess we’ll be staying out here for a little longer, no offense to her but, with Mina, it’s either horror or cliche romances,” he joked, earning a chuckle from the girl beside him, “though we shouldn’t stay out here for too long either, I wouldn’t want others to worry about us.”

“True that,” she agreed, “I came out to get you, after all,” she got up slowly, dusting her back before extending both her arms towards him, “wanna do it before we go back?”

He smiled, knowing what she meant. Reaching out, he grabbed ahold of both her hands, his ten fingers touching hers. Without a word, they began to float gently into the night sky. Once they reached a certain height, he activated his ability, stopping them from floating further.

They then stayed in mid-air, watching the night sky as stars surrounded them, thousands and millions of blinking lights watching down on them as they stayed in each other’s arms. He had done this dozen of times but each time he couldn’t help but marvel at the scenery above him. The stars, like moondust scattered across the void, were beacons of hope lighting up dark parts of the world. He had never felt so minuscule, so privileged to take in the breathtaking scenery currently in front of him as if he was watching a royal galactic performance.

“I will never get used to this,” she muttered and he turned towards her, towards the girl he deemed as beautiful as the stars above him. And in that brief moment, their eyes met. He stared into the eyes that had been looking at him with care since the moment they met, the pair of brown eyes that would look at him with admiration, worry, and love. He looked at the face of the girl that had been with him during his best and worst, the girl that had many times pulled him from the darkness into the light, the girl that he will give his life for, the girl that he swore will forever make her happy.

When do people fall in love?

When the stars align

When the possibilities are limitless

When two hearts beat as one

When two exist in eternity, where there’s nothing but each other, there’s only one thing to say.

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

It's just for awhile but, it's good to be back
