So this a campion piece to 'A Civilian, A Hero, And A Ninja' that said while this fic takes place after that one there is no need to read it to fully understand this one. If you want to read about Lena's girlfriend getting some love by all means please do but if not it's all good too. This is really just one scene with some deep thoughts by Angela so not much happens but Gency feels so sorry if that isn't your thing. I am working on a few WIPs right now so suggestions are welcome.
WarNinGs: Angst, Deep thoughts, Not much action, Gency, The feels.

"Genji – “I am grateful for our conversations, Angela. I hope we may resume them when we return to base.”
Mercy – “Of course, assuming you don't find all my research talk too dry.”
Genji – “I find it strangely reassuring. Perhaps because you saved my life.”
Mercy – “The lengths I go to find someone willing to talk to me.”

Angela sighed as she walked back into her office having left to eat a proper meal before one of her teammates decided to drag her out and forced her to. Her friends loved her and they meant well, truly, but the doctor wanted to work on her current project more than almost anything. After saving France, at least for the moment, the former members of Overwatch who had answered the recall had returned to the Watchtower for the most part. Genji and Lena had left to take care of something, may have been a mission may not have been she had stopped really listening when Genji volunteered to go with Lena. The cyborg had finally returned to the team, to his found family, to her side, and in the blink of an eye he was gone again. It wasn't personal she knew that, Lena was a dear friend like a little sister and they were adorable together, but it still stung a little. Feeling jealousy over a purely innocent and platonic relationship made her feel like a foolish teen, or how she imagined they would feel. Her teenage years had not been like those of other girls and busy as she had been crushes had been easier to ignore. As it was she was still not entirely sure what her relationship with Genji even was.
He had been just a name and a face once. The 'higher ups' had wanted to recruit him to fight the Shimada clan and those like them so he had been little interest to her. The first time he had caught her eye was an image of him smiling, not smirking or grinning simply, truly, smiling. A child was laughing and that was reason enough to smile in her opinion but the expression had drawn her attention. In so many images of the man he was amused or smug but not simply happy and it looked good on him. When she was assigned to the team sent to acquire the second son of the Shimada clan she wondered if it was her looks or skill that had earned her the spot. A moot point when they had caught wind of trouble and had found only the bloody aftermath. The face she had studied more and more was paled by lose of blood or redden with blood or burns. So much blood Angela had a hard time reconciling it all even as it continued to seep and flow. Dropping to her knees she had placed a hand on the young man's chest, criminal or not she did not feel he had deserved to have this done to him. When he had responded to her touch she had frozen, how could a body that damaged still be alive? Screaming for help she had taken his remaining hand and had held it between her own, the skin cooler than the blood smeared on it. It had been a fight so many times to keep his body going, will alone could not force a heart to beat forever, but in the end she had done it. The first human to survive having so much of their body replaced, to this day.
When he had recovered enough carry on a conversation with out exhausting himself he had been displeased to say the least, not that she could blame him. Vanity aside, as he was a 'playboy', losing so much of your body at once was a shock to the system not even factoring in the mental distress he had to have been feeling. His agreement to join Blackwatch and get revenge was made quickly, and to this day Angela wondered if she should have demanded more time to make sure he was stable enough to make that choice. His anger and frustration had been painful if not fully expected, she had worked with amputees before. She hid her pain and distress as well as she could, it would do neither of them any good for her to break down in front of him. By the time Blackwatch was ended and Genji joined Overwatch things had improved between them. Genji had calmed having taken out part of his clan and having mastered his new body. While working on his paler upgrades designed to give him freedom and even greater power she had come to terms with her less than purely professional feelings. Work done the black and red color scheme had been replaced with grey and neon green giving Genji a less sinister appearance as well as hiding the remain bits of his human body.
Genji had studied his look in the full-length mirror, testing his newest form for what felt like years before nodding. Turning to her he had bowed thanking her for making this body far less reliant on maintenance. She had nodded reminding him it was her job to see to the health of the team. At the time she had not been able to be as honest as she wished. Genji may have calmed, even began to really and truly bond with some of the others, but he still was not at peace with what he was. With friendship would come acceptance, or so she desperately hoped. It hurt to know she had gone from the one he could focus all his negative feelings on to a teammate to now a friend and feel like that next step was always one step forward and two steps back. It was not Genji's fault he was honest, often brutally so, about how he felt even if it was just a mess of words and sounds she could understand on a primal level because langue had no words for some emotions. Her professional side reminded her falling for a patient was frowned upon for a reason, and for many good ones, but she had been intrigued before actually meeting the man. Finding the man interesting and not just handsome was hardly professional either as falling for teammates and co-workers was fraught with its own set of problems but she could not help it. The man was not just a walking weapon to be pointed at a target and unleashed, none of them were and allowing themselves to be treated that way was wrong. Jack had cared she knew he had but he was a soldier and they gave and followed orders, he could only do so much.
Sighing softly she noted a bit of color on her desk that had not been there when she had left, no matter how lost in thought she had been. Setting her generic white Overwatch mug down on her desk she reached out to take the bird, blinking when it easily came away from the fake branch it was sitting on. It was clearly a songbird with a pale chest and belly, darker brown feathers marking the top of its little head down its back and wings. Black markings like a little mask bleeding down its neck to its chest and she smiled recognizing it, "Spatz"
"Hai?"
Angela jumped at the sudden voice, the bird slipping from her normally steady hands. Genji caught the bird easily, no doubt in her mind he would have been able to fully human, and held it gently in his hands as he straightened before her. Looking up from the bird she instantly noticed his helmet was removed giving her a clear view of his face. She loathed the scars because they hurt him, caused others to shy away hurting him anew. "No one told me you were back."
"They didn't know," Genji inform the doctor in their teammate's defense, "Winston does now since Lena is with him."
Nodding Angela was not surprised Genji was sneaky it was simply his nature, "And you came here to see me or because you require healing?"
Genji titled his head giving her an innocent look, "Can I not do both?"
Crossing her arms the blonde smiled, she had missed Genji's playful nature. She had only caught glimpses of it from afar for the longest time, it was only after they had gone from teammates to friends she had seen it up close. Lena had told her stories, the Brit had not been all that stable when meeting Genji as her phasing issues were a frightening problem. Meeting someone else who needed glowing tech to keep them alive seemed to help both cope a bit and it was no surprise the two fastest agents had bonded over missions and down time away from others as their conditions were monitored. It was likely why Winston had a good relationship with Genji as well, not that the gorilla was hard to get along with. "Can you?"
"Quite well simply not today," Genji answered with a smirk of amusement. Smirk softening into a bittersweet smile as rich brown turned down to the bird he was still holding.
"Genji?" Angela frowned not sure what had caused that expression for a moment, eyes widened when she remembered what sparrow meant in relation to the ninja. Reaching out she allowed her hands to rest on his shoulders, the soft sturdy material felt different but pleasant, "Okaerinasai."
"Vielen Dank," Genji returned looking up, he had many things to thank this women for.
Angela smiled, German did not sound as natural coming from him as did her but it was sweet of him to learn a bit of a third language just for moments like this. "Any special reason for this gift? I'm not sure housewarming rules apply to a base we are simply reclaiming."
Genji titled his head as he considered that, maybe once the base was finished they would worry more about making it feel like home. "A wise woman informed me that tokens meant to show you care go a long way to make up for past misdeeds and knowing you are on my mind would mean a lot to you."
Fingers clenched, Angela had had not been expecting to hear Genji admit he had been thinking about her like that. As she understood it, culturally speaking, Japanese people did not show affection as openly as her American teammates, and Genji had always seemed to fit that cultural norm. Protecting teammates and doing small things for them outside of battle was how he showed his affection more often than not, she often did little things more often than saying the words as well so she understood. Sniffing she smiled when her tears brought a worried expression to that expressive face few got to see. "It does Genji...thank you." Leaning close she wrapped her arms around his neck, moving closer when he moved his hands out of the way. "I've missed you too."
A gentle smile and kind words pushed the growing worry he had misjudged things aside, pale arms encircling his neck seeking closeness was all the prompting he needed. Gently setting the wooden bird down he smiled when Angela moved closer the moment his hands were no longer between them. Interlocking his own fingers at the small of her back he smiled, "I'm here now Tenshi, for as long as you want me."
Angela closed her eyes as Genji held her back, the slight weigh of his hands on her back comforting. At the sound of her nickname she smiled, sniffing again second time when after a moment he spoke again. Pulling away enough to meet his eyes she buried her fingers in black hair as her grip tightened. "Angels are forever unless slain."
"So are dragons," Genji countered leaning close, eyes half closed, forever meant different things to the living and to the dead.
"So they are," Angela agreed leaning in pressing her lips to the pair waiting to meet hers and smiled. Professionalism be damned this what she had wanted for so long and she would not give it up now that he was in her arms. Lowering her head she tucked her golden crown under his chin, "The others will want to throw a party when they hear about this."
Genji chuckled into soft hair, "They can wait till McCree returns or he'll never let us hear the end of it."
Angela giggled, the cowboy would be hurt if he missed more than a housewarming party. "Best to avoid making him pout yes. Hope he decides to wander home soon."
"If he's not home in a week I'll personally hunt him down and drag him back here," Genji promised smirking, would be easy to find out where his recall had pinged and head there.
"So good to me," Angela praised patting his head before opting to play with his hair, it was not like they were in a rush to go anywhere. At Genji's purr Angela laughed, drying tears forgotten.

So yeah the wise woman would be Emily so if you want to go give that story a read feel free but it isn't supper important to understanding this one as I said before. I may do another chapter to this, cowboy hunting could be fun eh?, and if I do I will post it/them as chapters since they will be continuing this story rather than just short of being a prequal. As always I hope this was enjoyable and you know where the comments section is if you have thoughts you'd like to share. Still new to this Fandom but really enjoying creating for it so far.

Well a few kind words of encouragement and my Feed and Happy Muses complied and here we go. Cuteness as requested. Added more of the OGs back and will add more in later chapters, *cough*Mei*cough*. Still new to writing all these loveable bad ass dorks so let me know if I am seriously messing any of them up. Not sure when the update will be but any ideas, even just A interacts with B please? are fine since it lets me know what people want to see. Writing just for myself is all well and good but I did post this so clearly I am trying to not be selfish here. Hope this goes over well, and that I added all the new tags I needed to. Enjoy.
WarNinGs: Gency still the only romantic Ship. Platonic Ships nah Platonic Armada. Emily is very wise. Too much Fan Art, you'll get that by the end. Who loves Winston? EVRYONE! Genji is a great hugger and super huggable armor be damned! So how much cute do you want? Yes.

Winston jerked when he turned from his screen and Genji was standing behind him arms crossed. Pushing his glasses back into place after relaxing the gorilla wondered why Athena had not mentioned he had a visitor, and how did anyone stand that still even if their legs were mostly artificial? "Genji hello, you startled me."
"Apologies," Genji said bowing his head, startling people was just something he did meaning to or not. "I have a request."
"Don't worry about it ninja sneak it's no big deal." The scientist was well aware of Genji's talent to just appear and disappear without making a sound, his armor and limbs designed to be feline quiet, and they worked a little too well sometimes. Frowning he eyed the cyborg, "Official or personal?"
Head tilted slightly as Genji considered for a moment, "A bit of both."
Winston nodded with a hint of a smile, it was a bit gratifying to know Genji was comfortable coming to him with even partially personal requests rather than just going. "I'm all ears."
Genji glanced at the screen noting the schematics looked like bombs combining Tracer and Mei's tech which had worked rather well on Null Sector and would be easier for the others to use unlike his own tech. "Jesse has not reported in yet and I would like to find out why."
Strong fingers rubbed a dark chin, Winston knew the pair had worked together in BlackWatch and even now Jesse was one of the closest people to Genji. "He told me he had something to take care of before heading in."
Nodding Genji was not surprised to hear that, "He check in since then?"
Winston frowned, "No...you think he is in trouble?" When Genji had a bad feeling it was best to listen, Lena had joked about scary things getting scared and she had not been wrong. Jesse could handle himself, had proven it more than once, but he did not tend to go silent like Genji had in the past.
"We tend to attract it," Genji answered with a bit of a helpless shrug. "Can you tell me what he was taking care of?"
"He wanted to see if he could recruit Ashe," Winston knew Jesse would be all right with him telling Genji. "He was not sure she would listen but he said he owed her...I only know the basics, I don't like reading files on my friends."
"Sometimes you just have to try even if you know you will likely fail. Tell me where he went I will see he gets home safe and sound." Genji knew exactly how Jessie felt because he had come to feel the same way about Hanzo. He had not returned home to forgive his brother but as they fought he had made his choice. The past was the past, over, unchangeable, he was not who he had been a decade ago and he could not give up on his brother now.
Winston nodded thinking back to the mission in France, Genji's timing perfect as always, "True. You think she'll follow?"
Genji shrugged crossing his arms, "OverWatch already redeemed one DeathWatch member and one Yakuza so what's one more?"
Grinning the gorilla nodded, "True." Turning Winston typed bringing up the data he needed, moving so Genji could read the screen without having to move. Watching the Ninja type for a moment before returning his phone to his pocket he smiled, "Go bring our friend home Genji."
Genji bowed his head, "I intend to."

Genji typed a quick text to Angela as he half sat half leaned on the seat of the motorcycle he had parked outside of the bar Winston had pinged Jessie in before heading to DeathWatch's hideout. Hitting send he nodded when he got the conformation message, returning his phone as he straitened. Brushing a bit of non-existence dust from his black jacket with a V of neon green marking the front and back, a roughly two-inch-wide strip down each sleeve starting at a roughly fist sized circle baring an upright katan with his sprit dragon forming a crescent behind it. The stylized symbol adorned a few of his jackets and hoodies now, every hero needed an icon of some sort. Walking through the glass doors he winced at the chiming bell not that he was trying to be stealthy just then. "We don't serve your kind here."
Genji turned his head to blink at the man standing behind the bar, average sized human male something he could easily throw from one side of the bar to the other even human. "Excuse me?"
"Omnics. You don't eat or drink after all." The man did not understand why the odd one wondered in when a bar offered nothing for them but they did.
Genji reached up releasing this visor with a hiss, removing it he glared at the man, "Not an Omnic."
"I...sorry for the mistake." Scared guy in armor was another story, and his glare was something else even lazily.
Genji replaced the visor before nodding, it was not the first time he had been mistaken for a Omnic. Glancing around the building he smiled spotting a very familiar hat, funny how he had hated it once. Jerking his head towards where McCree was sitting he watched the bartender follow, "A bottle of your best whiskey and two clean glasses."
The man frowned, "He's already racked up a bit of a tab."
Sighing softly Genji reached into his pocket and held up a fat wad of cash smirking when the human's mouth all but watered seeing it. Money fixed many minor problems like annoying owners more often than not he had learned that young and it still held true. "I will cover it."
"Of course sir."
Returning the cash Genji nodded and walked away, he hardly cared if the man tried to cheat him money was no issue for the Shimada the more things changed and all that. Stopping behind McCree he eyed the empty bottle and wondered how many had been cleared away before he had gotten there. "Lossing your touch Cowboy?"
AhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRrAhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRr
Jesse sighed as he glanced at the faintly ambered colored water left in his glass. Ashe was not in the mood to go legit and no amount of his 'sweet talkin' was going to change that anytime soon it seemed. Sitting in the bar drinking until he passed out was not going to change anything but he had never been accused of always making good decisions. Once he woke up and suffered through the mother of all hangovers he would call home and see what was going on there. He had caught clips of the fight on the news and gossip as he had moved. Hard not to when OverWatch was breaking several international laws by showing up and saving Paris' ass like they did. Seemed Genji had wandered home, Angie had said he had began talking to her again and seemed better which had been nice to hear. It had hurt when Genji had just walked away from all of them like they hadn't meant a damn thing to him. Sure the guy's head had not been in the best place since they had met but how many times had they shared a battlefield didn't that at least warrant a goodbye? Aw Hell he would have settled for a postcard saying he wasn't dead just once, not like the guy had the best sense of personal worth at the best of times.
A shadow behind him was ignored, if it wasn't more to drink he wasn't interested just then. A familiar voice and jab made him jerk up and blink to his right. Genji stood there arms loosely crossed, body relaxed but ready to fight the second it needed to. The jacket was new but suited him, he had seen the new look and it had made him smile to see Genji wearing clothes again. "Speak of the Devil."
"Oni," Genji corrected smirking. "How many have you had to forget something so simple?"
"Bite me Dragon I've had a bad week," Jesse muttered unable to keep from smiling just a bit at the familiar ribbing, he had fought tooth and nail to get close to the ninja and he had missed the bastard. When Genji uncrossed his arms Jesse held up a hand to stop him for saying anything, "Not your fault partner. Sit, I'm tired of drinking alone."
Genji frowned but nodded sitting down as invited, Jesse wanting to drink alone had never been a good sign. "You seem to be tried of drinking."
"Nah...just taking a break is all." Watching Genji lean back with a head toss he knew was akin to the roll of eyes he grinned, "Winston send you to check up on me?"
"No one sent me," Genji answered eyeing Jesse, he must have failed and badly.
Jesse frowned, Genji had tracked him down on his own? "You tell the Big Guy you were going or you just poofed like you did on Gabe and Jack?"
Arms folded on the table as Genji leaned forward, "He gave me your cords." Head turned when his order was set down, nodding he ignore the server as walked away. "I take it she said no?"
Jesse blinked when a fresh bottle and two glasses were set down, Genji must have ordered them before making himself known. Genji poured a glass and slid to him and Jessie smiled a bit more. God bless the cybernetic Ninja bastard. Nodding he lifted his glass as Genji poured himself a drink as well, "I knew she wasn't just going to say sure not after I stopped her and the other from stealing Echo." Echo had been in Paris so that means she and Genji had met and he was curious what they thought of each other. "But I guess not greeting me with a bullet to the head was as warm a welcome as I was gonna to get."
Genji nodded removing the faceplate of his mask, it was not like Jessie had not seen his face before and no one else would be coming near anytime soon. Setting it down he sighed, "Maybe she'll come around in time?"
Setting his glass down with a sigh Jesse shrugged, "Hey if you can learn to chill anyone can."
Chuckling Genji shrugged, "Careful it took me a decade."
"Nah," Jesse countered shaking his head, regretting it soon after, "You weren't so bad when you traded in the black and red for silver and green."
Genji sipped his drink considering that, he had made progress before meeting Zenyatta even if he was sure he likely never would have found the peace he had without the Omnic monk. "Better gear and more freedom helped."
"Yeah Gabe had you on a short leash." Taking a swig he titled his head, "Winston even try?"
"Winston prefers asking to ordering," Genji reminded his friend, "He's not a bad leader."
"Just a strange one," Jesse agreed after all calling a talking gorilla scientist form the moon your leader was strange even for people as odd as they all were.
Genji shrugged unconcerned, "A normal one would not last a week."
"I hear ya." Jesse grinned before frowning, lowering his head, "Sorry I worried ya Gen."
Genji reached out laying his hand on Jesse's right arm, smiling reassuringly when the cowboy looked back up. "I worried you first. It was wrong of me to just walk away as I did, I was not the only one hurting and selfness was always a bad habit of mine. I am relived you are not tied up in your sister's base or worst."
"Big Bad Ninja is a softie," Jesse teased placing his metal hand over Genji's, felt good. "Happy to not need savin' myself though it would have been a bit of old times."
"You are clearly drunk speaking such nonsense," Genji smirked refilling his glass with his left hand.
"Shaddup you think half of what I say is nonsense," Jesse mocked grinning.
Genji took a swig humming, "True, but it is more like a fourth after BlackWatch."
"Well, well nice to know I improved," Jesse drawled as he reached for the bottle frowning before smiling when Genji snatched the bottle but refilled his drink.
"If you got worst I would have made sure Angela fixed you," Genji had been very confused by Jessie at first but over time they had come to an understanding and Gabe had not always appreciated the banter.
"Before or after you used me for target practice?" Jesse teased, chuckling when Genji just shrugged, "Little shit."
"Flatter," Genji cooed smirking, "She was a little worried you would miss the housewarming."
"The base that close to being fixed up huh?" Jesse had heard the base needed a bit of love before it was good to go but it seemed they had been busy after getting back from Paris. Angela would worry about him like that, she really was worthy of her name.
"Seems so. Didn't take long to set up my room and the training aeras. Angela has Echo to help with medical stuff so she hasn't been as overworked as she otherwise would be." Genji had stuck with what he knew and offered his brute strength to anyone else needing a hand, Mei had needed a bit of help setting up her lab but otherwise he had not been all that busy.
Jesse nodded, he would have just been around too, "Good to know everything is going well."
"Would be nice to spend a bit of time there before missions start coming in. Seems after King's Row and Paris the world is reconsidering outlawing us." Genji shrugged, "Never been all that concerned with being a law-abiding citizen but noting having to fight the good guys after defeating the bad guys over and over would get old."
Groaning Jesse rubbed the bridge of his nose, "Don't even joke about that my head hurts too much to add that headache."
Shaking his head Genji smirked, "Sorry to be so inconsiderate."
"Forgiven," Jesse teased right back. "So...we should take the bottle and head out."
Genji nodded, finishing his drink before replacing his faceplate, taping his coms he spoke quickly to Athena in Japanese as he stood, holding up a hand to stop Jesse from standing. "I will settle the bill."
Jesse stood grabbing the bottle and replacing the cap, "Not going to argue."
Shaking his head amused Genji walked up to the bar leaving Jesse to follow if he wished. "The bill." The man was quick to set the bill down, Jessie had bought the bar a few rounds. Typical of him to try and cheer up others while being miserable himself, he had resented that trait more than once. Reaching into his pocket he counted out what was owed adding another hundred, "Tip." He explained as he set the cash down before turning no longer interested in the man. Walking away he met Jesse at the door, opening it for the drunk man before following him out.
Jesse sighed at the fresh air hit his face, Genji at his side ready to catch him if he stumbled. It was a better end to the last few days that he had been expecting that was for sure. He was sure Angela had gently pushed Genji to hunt him down, she worried after her boys and having Genji home and not him had likely worried her a bit. Head turned when one of the jets they used landed, had Genji not come alone after all? Watching the Ninja move to retrieve a nice ride he had not had before Jesse followed. The doors opened and Genji moved to secure the motorcycle against the wall but no one came to greet them, "Lena too comfy to come say hi?"
"Voice command auto pilot." Genji explained moving up to Jesse's left catching his pout turn to a blink of confusion. "New toy I offered to try out since I do spend a lot of time in the field and have built in tech, it made me a good test pilot."
"Lena must be so proud to have rubbed off," Jesse could just see Genji jetting all over the world solo, he was used to it. "I guess Lena is the only pilot who can keep up with you huh?"
"We are the fastest," Genji headed for the cockpit, "Athena any news?"
"Mei was curious if you or Jesse wanted anything special to eat or drink otherwise no. Welcome back Jesse."
"Thanks Thena, good to hear ya voice." Jesse inclined his hat at the monitor, even if she as an AI she was still a lady. "Mei...why does that sound familiar?"
"The lady in the blue coat with ice powers you saw on the news. She was thought lost with her team but turned out she survived and answered the Recall." Genji answered as he started his preflight check.
"Right...Didn't know all the science types form back in the day but glad she made it." Jesse had caught glimpses of a blue clad lady he had not recognized among the others.
Genji nodded he knew more medics but had not cared to learn their names, "She's green but egger. Positive energy a lot like Lena."
"She not scared of you either?" Genji could do scary without trying and Ninja were sneaky so he could make stranger nervous just by existing.
"Shy but not beyond that. Helps both Lena and Winston adore me, even more so after saving them both in Paris." Genji had always had good timing when he needed to save a teammate and it had not failed him when he had needed it yet again. He had put himself back together again only to fall apart all over again because of failing family.
Jesse sat down in the co-pilot's seat, smiling at how comfortable it was wondering if this jet had been customized. "Lena loves her Big Bad Ninja Brother."
"Always liked the idea of having a little sister," Genji admitted as he started the jet, Lena would have made a wonderful Shimada maybe in another life.
"Yeah...only child myself. I guess you wouldn't want any more older brothers huh?" Jesse couldn't say he blamed Genji for being so pissed at his family for what they had done to him, and that was before the failed murder attempt.
"You're older," Genji reminded Jesse, it was only a few years but Jesse was still older than he was.
Jesse blinked he often forgot just how old Genji was, damn slow aging Asian genes. Touched by Genji claiming him as family he sniffed, "Thanks Gen."
Genji turned to Jesse and smiled, "Anytime Jes."
dhfhkdjhAhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRrAhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRrfkjhdsfkjhjshfkjsdhshk
Lena screamed in excitement, ignoring the few underlings who jumped at her cry as she rushed forward. Right arm hooked around Genji's armored neck, left Jesse's. "MISSED YOU!"
Jesse laughed holding her close in a one-armed hug, "Missed ya too darling."
Lena laughed before tilting her head closer to Genji, 'thank you," she whispered smiling when he tightened his grip slightly in response. Turning to Jessie she grinned at him, "No bullet holes I see."
"Nah just a bit of a ring in the ears," Jesse was happy he and Ashe had parted with nothing more than a lot of yelling, and one good right hook to his face.
Lena let Genji go turning her head toward him, "Genji go debrief Winston I'll see our Cowboy gets to Angela without being distracted."
"You don't have to bend my arm to go see my favorite blonde," Jesse teased, he only feared seeing her when he was injured and an impending hangover did not exactly count.
"Good thing I'm brunette," Lena winked at Genji who was shaking his head at them.
"I would hate to have to choose between two perfect blondes, I'm only human." Casual banter was something he had always enjoyed and Lena could give as good as she got.
Genji chuckled softly at the pair, he had missed this, "Behave."
Jesse smirked reaching out and taking Genji's chin, "Don't be jealous Gen your still my fave raven haired around."
Genji smirk as he took Jesse wrist carefully in his artificial hand, "How do you know my hair is still black handsome?" Releasing Jesse as he turned and walked out grinning.
Jesse blinked, when was the last time Genji had cooed at him if ever? Damn ex-playboy, "His hair is still black right?"
Lena hid a grin in Jesse's shoulder before looking up at him, "Was when I took him home with me but that was a week ago so...Guess you'll have to ask Angela."
Jesse nodded, "On it."
AhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRrAhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRr
Winston looked up at a knock, "Genji come in." Noting the mostly black attire looked as clean as it had when Genji had left he relaxed. "I take it all went well?"
"Jesse failed to talk Ashe into joining him but he is home safe and sound so yes," Genji did not know Ashe and as long as she was no threat to Jesie or them as a whole he was fine leaving her in peace.
Frowning in thought Winston nodded, "Expected as much, he was not the most eggar to join OverWatch...neither were you."
Genji nodded crossing his arms, "OverWatch is picker about body counts than BlackWatch, and I had not enjoyed being their attack dog much." Winston opened his mouth before closing it looking troubled. "Ask."
Winston swallowed at the prompt, "Do you feel like my mine?"
Genji tilted his head as he uncrossed his arms, "I am killer, that is what I was recruited for, but no. To you I am not a weapon, a solider, an investment...I am your friend and you would never use a friend."
"I...thank you Genji," Winston removed his glasses to wipe his eyes before replacing them.
"You wanted to rebuild OverWatch without all the red tape and bullshit that tore it apart before and you will, it is why we came when you called." Genji placed his left fist on his hip, "It is not as if we needed to be called OverWatch to still want to help those who need help the most. Damn the accords, they can arrest us all once Null Sector and Talon lay defeated before us. Been on the wrong side of the law all my life really anyway."
"You are a good man Genji Shimada," Winston had heard stories before meeting the man, he was no monster just hurt, scared, and lost and now he was a hero.
Genji smiled as he inclined his head, "You are a better one. Jesse will be here after Angela makes sure his impending hangover won't kill him." Turning he walked to the door, pausing he turned to look over his shoulder, "Thanks for the toy it has been a lot of fun."
AhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRrAhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRr
"I'm fine Anggie just a bruised heart and the makings of a killer hangover," Jesse assured the blonde used to her fretting over him after a mission. Sure she ranted at Genji every time he had come back injured but he deserved it with his dismissals of having an easily repairable body. He got a good talking too when he messed up but it was always out of love, and Anggie had a lot of love to give.
Angela laid a hand on her friend's shoulder as she sat down beside him, "I'm sure she will come around. You are hard to ignore Jesse McCree."
Jesse grinned, "What can I say it's a gift?"
"If you can get Genji to let you use him for a pillow you can do anything," Angela smiled fondly at the memory of a battered but all right Genji with Jesse passed out against his left shoulder. Genji had not liked being touched but Jesse seemed to know when he could get away with it and so had walked away with all his fingers.
Jesse glanced down at the bed they were sitting on and smiled sadly, he missed seeing Genji's eyes, his humanity. The silver look was less imposing, maybe, but it also hid too damn much. Catching sight of something new he turned his attention to Angela's desk. A pretty carved bird was sitting on a blossoming cherry branch, it had to be from Genji but why? Angela would never have the heart to cage a songbird? Maybe. The bird meant something he was not aware of? More likely. "Cute housewarming gift."
Angela blinked frowning slightly in confusion before noting what Jesse was looking at. A faint blush colored her pale cheeks, "He is isn't he."
"It a certain kind or...?" Jesse gave a little shrug not commenting on her calling the bird a he.
"A Spatz or sparrow...I have a certain fondness for them yes." Angela smiled to herself thinking back on Genji telling her about his childhood nickname while falling asleep. No doubt high on painkillers but still his voice had been soft, wistful, not at all what he used when talking about his clan. His scared face peaceful, beautiful in pure spite of what had been done to it. How she had loved watching him sleep, his soft breathing soothing white noise while doing paperwork at odd hours. She had been reminded how much she missed it over the last week as she became reacclimatized to that soothing rhythm only to go without for a night. Having Jessie back among them safe and sound was worth a bad night's sleep and she would sleep just fine tonight.
"No offense Doc but I think I prefer that in English," Even her pleasant voice could not make everything sound better Jesse had missed it.
"None taken," Angela assured her friend as he stood and stretched, "Not sure if housewarming gifts are needed for a reclaimed base."
"Well," Jesse started as he started walking slowly around the room. "The way I see it is this base was changed to feel like a home so if friends want to give little gifts I say let 'em."
Angela nodded as she leaned back, hands on the bed, "Logical."
"Not sure how I feel about you accusin' me of thinking but thanks," Jesse teased tipping his hat getting a giggle. Noting a box hiding under some papers he took it, the bow was still on so he wondered if she had missed it when setting her stuff down. "Think someone else left you something."
"Oh?" Angela asked as she titled her head, blinking at the long box Jesse was holding. "No card?"
"Nope, guessin' you'll know when you open it." Jesse shrugged and held it out, "Go on it won't bite ya."
Angela took the box, the golden ribbon glinting in the soft light. Genji had already given her a gift and if he wished to give her another he was more likely to hide it in her room since she would be happy to return there tonight. Maybe Mei had left her something and was too shy to do it in person? The ribbon came undone with a single tug and she opened the box eyes going wide. "Mein Gott..."
Jesse glanced down to see what had gotten that reaction and blinked at an emerald dragon with dark gold fur and under scales with diamond eyes and a chain he'd bet was platinum. "Damn...you good Angie?"
Angela sniffed as she took the dragon in her hands, allowing it to rest in her left palm she traced its curving form with her finger, "Lieber, suber, dummer mann."
Patting her shoulder Jesse smiled warmly, "I'll head out so you can thank your Dragon properly. Lord knows you've both earn a bit of happiness."
"Jesse...Muchas gracias," Jesse was a good friend to them all and he deserved some happiness too.
Jesse smiled at the Spanish, a bit shaky due to emotion but that just made it sound all the sweeter, "Gerne geschehen."
Angela blinked before sniffing at the German touched, when he tilted his hat she bowed her head and let him go without another word, "Both of my boys are so good to me."
AhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRrAhAnDiDhDnDfDrEvRr
"I told Mei how you like your steak since no doubt you want one and pie," Genji greeted as he stopped hands in his pockets. Looking up he tilted his head at the look Jesse was giving him. "Are you all right?"
"Just fine Partner. Angela is in a great mood since I'm not even ruffled so I'll go see the monkey." Walking past Genji he laid a hand on his left shoulder, "Thanks for everything you sneaky flying overgrown snake."
Genji chuckled shaking his head, "Good to have you back you loudmouth eyesore." A pat on his shoulder and Jesse started walking again, felt a bit like old times only better without all the negative baggage he had worn like armor. Entering the room he stretched, fingers interlocked behind him remaining frozen when Angela rushed him. She did not seem distressed as she tore his helmet off before grabbing his face and sealing her mouth over his as if she had not seen him in years rather than roughly a day. Bringing his arms back around he settled his hands on her waist as he kissed her back not sure why she needed him so badly after a nice visit with Jesse but not about to part save to draw a panting breath.
Angela pulled away panting, Genji's scared face still held firmly in her hands, dark eyes lidded. "You left me another present."
Angela's breathy words snapped his brain back into a functioning state, she must have liked it. Making a note to thank Emily he grinned, "I owed you the expensive jewelry for being a shitty boyfriend part still."
"No," Angela assure him kissing him again. "You're back...all I care about is that you're here."
Genji lowered his forehead to golden silkiness, "I should have returned sooner, to my family...to you."
Sighing Angela smiled, "All that matters is we are together now." Genji hummed getting a chuckle, he really was a like a kitty cat. A beaten and abandon stary now a beloved part of the family. Pulling away she held up the chain, "Put it on for me?"
Nodding Genji took the chain in his own pale fingers and lowered is hands to her shoulders after a moment. "Green looks good on you."
Angela touched the dragon smiling, its weight was a gentle reminder resting on her chest, "Shimada tradition?"
"No, you simply remind me of her and you know very well my dragon is green," Genji answered watching her hand still over the pendant.
"Her...your dragon?" Angela knew the stories but the dragon always just seemed like pure energy in that shape not a real thing.
Genji stepped back closing his eyes, green lights flaring as a large dragon of rich green with orange fur coiled around him protectively. Faintly glowing eyes opened and the spirt turned rubbing her head against him, "She will not harm you."
"She...she's beautiful," Angela smiled when the dragon grinned nodding, turning to Genji she nodded and he nodded back.
"She likes you," Genji reached out and Angela offered her hand giggling when it was placed on warm scales. "You saved my life so not much of a surprise."
"I had no idea you could do this...you never before?" A big dragon would have been noticed by someone she stood out.
"I could not before," Genji admitted softly. "I was too lost to call her as more than the attack you all know."
"Oh Genji," Angela cupped his cheek before kissing him softly. She felt the dragon brush against her back before blinking a roughly large cat sized dragon sitting on Genji's shoulder. "So cute!"
Genji chuckled as he took his dragon from his shoulder and held her out to Angela, nodding when she hesitated. When the blonde started giggling at the purring as the dragon rubbed under her chin. "Her nickname is Soba."
"She is so sweet," Angela scratched under a narrow chin getting a louder purr. Beaming she looked up at Genji and his found smile and she understood the dragon was bonded to him, powered by him, was a part of him and he loved her. Sniffing she kept making the dragon purr melting into Genji when he wrapped his arms around her waist, chin on her shoulder, the faster rhythm of his awake yet calm breathing mixing with inhuman purring. Leaning back she sighed feeling more content than she had since they had sworn the rest of their time to each other. Until Atena informed her dinner was ready she was not moving from her dragon's strong arms.

Jesse grinned when Mei set down a lovely looking steak, "Thanks Darlin' looks mighty tasty."
Mei blushed a bit mumbling a little, turning when Lena patted her shoulder, "Lena?"
"Don't mind him Mei he calls most of us Darling just like I do Luv," Lena knew Jesse and he was harmless, Mei would get used to his very casual ways soon enough.
Jesse looked up from his food, "Right, Genji said you were shy. This is really good."
Mei blushed a bit more, it felt like forever since she had been able to cook for anyone but herself to enjoy. "Gla-glad you like it."
Lena shook her head as she sat down next to Winston, "No work at the dinner table Luv."
"One sec I am finishing the parameters for some tests for Athena to run," Winston assured his friend as he kept typing.
"Well I guess it's alright since not everyone is here yet," Lena allowed since running tests meant he would not be as busy himself.
"Should we go get the others out of the shop?" Mei was unsure if skipping meals was normal, she rather liked the trio often found in the shop working on new toys and armor for the Team.
"If they answered when you called it will be fine," Angela sat down next to Jesse. It was nothing new for someone to skip a meal when working, and getting the base ready on top of repairing old gear and building new was time consuming.
"If not send Genji to go fetch 'em," Jesse answered turning to smile at Angela.
"Dragons do not fetch we hunt," Genji corrected snatching the piece of steak from Jesse's fork as he walked past him.
"Hey!" Jesse protested when he noticed the theft.
Genji smirked before popping it into his mouth, "You'll live."
"Yeah but I won't enjoy it as much," Jesse pouted, smiling when Angela patted his arm.
"I think I will be able to live with that," Genji teased pouring himself a cup of coffee.
"Anggie he's being mean," Jesse teased right back.
"Genji do not pick on Jesse so much on an empty stomach," Angela chided waggling a finger at Genji.
"Whatever you say Doctor," Genji agreed before sipping his coffee.
"Much better," Lena nodded her approval of the banter, it had not been the same without everyone home.
Mei glanced at Genji biting her lip, Lena had mentioned he did not go maskless often even around them. His scars were a bit shocking at first but they really weren't that bad, she had pictured something far less human looking. "Is the coffee all right?"
Genji turned, head lowering as he glanced down and away, "I am not the best person to ask."
Frowning Mei glanced at the mug he was holding, "You are drinking it though?"
"Genji's sense of taste is not as sensitive as it once was," Angela explained like the doctor she was. She did not add he did not need the caffeine but he seemed to enjoy drinking it and she was not about to chide him for harmless habits. Lord knew he had enough harmful one he had needed broken of, and she was unsure if he had picked up any new ones or picked up some of his older ones while away.
"Because of the burns?" Mei blurted before covering her mouth. "Sorry!"
Genji reached out laying a hand on her shoulder ignoring her jump, "Yes. It is all right we are all friends here."
"Still I could have phrased it better..," Mei glanced at the hand on her shoulder, it felt warm if not different from a human's.
"Perhaps," Genji agreed, "You do not have to fear asking me a question all right?"
Mei nodded, "All right...and thank you."
"We all take some getting used to," Genji reminded the scientist smirking before going back to his coffee.
"Some of us more than others," Jesse teased grinning when Genji gave a little shrug.
Winston shook his head grinning, Mei was fitting in just fine, and it was good seeing Genji being so calm about his condition since he had not always been. "Try being a gorilla."
"Not sure we could all pull off the look Big Guy," Jesse grinned tipping his hat.
Lena giggled, "We'd need to modify all our aircraft."
"Some of them are a bit small," Winston agreed grinning at his best friend, she was a tiny little thing.
Mei smiled, it was different having more of the others around but she was really starting to like it. A gentle pat on the shoulder drew her attention as Genji walked away from her and over to Angela, trying what she offered a bite of. Lena had assured her the others were nice but the number of new people was a bit over whelming after being alone than with just a few others around. Watching the others she felt more like this place was really a home, a noisy den of controlled chaos but home. Snowball beeped happily and she nodded, "Tea anyone?"
OHHAYAYWEONLYGETBETTEROHHAYAYWEONLYGETBETTER
Angela smiled hugging Genji's arm, "You were sweet."
"I meant what I said," Genji dismissed, Mei had no reason to be nervous around him beyond her shy nature.
"Oh I know," Angela assured her ninja, "I've known you were sweet for years now."
Genji glanced at her before turning his attention to familiar running footsteps. "Need something Lena?"
"You!" Lena answered not surprised she had found Angela and Genji together, she had teased him about her for years and was happy to see them finally together.
A dark brow arched, "Emily all right with that?"
Lena frowned for a moment before slapping his arm getting a laugh, "Ran right into that one. Seriously I could use your help with something?"
"Such as?" Genji asked amused, Lena rarely came to him with boring requests.
"Mei," Lena watched Genji tilt his head looking confused. "Training." Genji nodded but said nothing a normal go on from him. "She needs to work on using her ice walls."
"What do you have in mind?" Genji was aware Mei had little fight experience and in their line of work that led to injuries and death.
"She makes ice walls and whatever to keep us apart. You have the natural strength and speed of an omnic so you're perfect for her to practice with and I'm her friend and...bored."
Genji chuckled at the confession, "Poor thing. Very well a sparring session sounds like fun."
"Should I switch to my training guns?" Lena had a pair she had used when sparing with Genji and others in the past, fully armored Genji was fine using her normal guns sometimes since his upgrades could take it.
"No, if I get hit it will not hurt me," Genji answered unconcerned, worst he would get was a bruise.
Lena nodded, Genji knew his skills better than anyone else and if he said use live ammo he meant it. "Fine with me."
"No pulse bombs though, ice shards are deadly and Mei is not as fast as we are." She had been hurt in Paris and it would not do for her to be seriously harmed during a sparring session where she was not a target.
Smiling Lena nodded, "Agreed. I'm going to go grab a warm coat so I'll meet you there."
"I will be in the observation deck," Angela informed them. "It will make Mei feel better knowing a healer was on hand plus," She hugged Genji's arm, "I haven't seen Genji show off in a while."
"Even better. See you both soon!" Lena grinned running off.
"If you want a show you only have to ask," Genji inform his angel pulling her closer against his side.
"Consider yourself asked," Angela smiled snuggling into Genji's side.
Genji nodded, "Wakatta."
OHHAYAYWEONLYGETBETTEROHHAYAYWEONLYGETBETTER
Mei watched Genji enter the large open room, smiling at his nod of greeting. Snowball floated over to him curious. Genji titled his head at the flying omnic before patting it on the head, “Friendly little thing.”
“Always has been,” Mei responded giggling when Snowball flew around Genji and rested on his shoulder. “Lena was very...excited about this.”
“Lena and I met in the arena,” Genji explained before sighing softly. “Our overlords thought it would be a good idea to match up the two fastest agents, logical enough. I was not impressed, a twig of a girl who did not move as a skilled warrior. She got my attention when she shot me between my shoulders, warrior no fighter yes. We bonded slowly after that.”
“I do not really enjoy fighting like she does.” Mei preferred protecting like Angela, “I need to learn to use my skills to cover my friends.”
Genji nodded, “Each of us has our skillset there is no shame in not enjoying fighting, you would be surprised how many of the others are simply resigned to it.”
“Not you?” Mei knew Angela disliked it, Winston hated serious fighting, the others she did not know them very well.
“I did not care much about my Yakuza duties but I did take my ninja training seriously.” Genji shrugged, “I would say I choose correctly.”
“Yakuza...you didn't want to be a criminal?” Lena had mentioned the ninja part, she had also seen some footage from training sessions past. Winston had wanted her to get an idea of what the others could do and the training rooms had cameras so there was plenty of video.
“Nothing so moral I simply did not care to dedicate my life to it unlike Hanzo.” Genji looked down at his right hand, “It was why OverWatch was interested in me, if I was a dutiful second son I would have been useless to them and so would not be here now.”
“OverWatch...I do not understand?” Mei had read about BlackWatch, of which Genji had been a part, but OverWatch was the good guy.
“I was useful and so they gave me armor and weapons before pointing me at their enemies and I was too angry to really care. Once I joined OverWatch I was upgraded and given more freedom, things were better. Winston's dream for OverWatch is noble which is why I returned. I am a killer and I will use my skills to build a better future for human and omnic alike.” Genji turned his head when Snowball gently butted his chin and he smiled patting the little omnic's head. “You like that do you little one?”
Dark eyes eyed the blades ready at the cyborg's back before watching an artificial hand patting Snowball. She loved the little guy and it was nice to see the others taking to him as well, she would have to find out what teas they all liked. “He makes great tea.”
“hmm,” Genji hummed before turning his head, “Good of you to join us.”
“Not all of us walk around with climate-controlled body armor,” Lena mocked in her blur and white bodysuit.
Genji turned hand on his hip, “That sounds like a you problem not a me problem.”
Mei turned smiling at her friend, she had liked Lena since they had met. Giggling at the pair bantering she wondered what the others were like when not fighting omnics. “We were not here long.”
Lena rolled her eyes at Genji, it was good to hear him in high spirits again/ What could she say she worried about her cybernetic friend when not around. “No a me problem is not being able to pull off the look like you can.”
Genji shrugged, “I know. I know. I’m so cool.”
“Too bad you're a bloke Luv,” Lena teased back, she preferred the badass ninja over the edge-lord ninja.
“Didn't stop you from sleeping with me,” Genji cooed leaning forward.
Lena reached out and tugged on his ribbon, “Naughty ninja.” Turning to Mei who was looking from one to the other with a mixture of confusion and embarrassment she sighed. “I fell asleep leaning on him a few times, the armor makes a better pillow than you might think.”
“Didn't have armor on that shoulder half of those times,” Genji reminded the spunky brunette, laughing when she tugged on his ribbon again.
“That's enough of that,” Lena deadpanned, she did miss snuggling against him after a tough mission knowing she was safe and sound. Just because she could fight her own fights and take care of herself did not mean she did not welcome a friend looking after her from time to time.
Mei nodded catching on, Lena was friendly so she could see her doing just that. As she understood it Lena and Jesse were the teammates closest to Genji, since Angela was his doctor first she did not necessarily count as just an agent. “Wouldn't he be cold?” Winston's armor was not exactly warm to the touch and while they both wore it a lot Winston's was not part of him.
Genji held out his hand, nodding when Mei just blinked at it, “Am I?”
Pulling off a glove Mei reached out, it was not as if Genji was going to hurt her so there was no reason not to take his hand. Laying her hand on his dark palm she ran her fingers over the artificial surfaces, they were smooth, hard, a bit cooler than a human’s hand should be but not unpleasantly so. “No.” Mei turned his hand examining where his shuriken came from, she was interested in how his systems worked but so was Winston it was just the scientist in them. Genji held still allowing her to study his hand, no doubt used to such things. Turning his hand back around she noted the more flesh colored part past his wrist, fingers running along the curves. It was softer and a bit warmer, more like a living person than a machine. Looking up she noted Genji's head titled slightly, Lena just standing there watching her. Pulling her hand away she knew she was blushing, “So-sorry.”
“For?” Genji asked as he pulled his arm back, crossing them loosely he glanced at Lena before turning back to Mei. “Scientists are curious.”
“No need to be shy Luv he won't bite,” Lena hugged his shoulders.
“Always preferred clawing, though I will bite if asked nicely,” Chuckling Genji shook his head when Lena slapped his chest with the back of her hand. “You make it too easy.”
“Tell me again how you're a monk now?” Lena rolled her eyes but was grinning, she had all but handed him that one.
Mei frowned she could not see the cyborg as a monk, “Lena?”
“Oh right. So I talked it over with Genji and we agreed you need some training. After all I was an army pilot before OverWatch and Genji is a ninja but you were a civilian.”
“You have the heart but not the skill to go with it,” Genji chimed in. “It puts you and your teammates in danger and thankfully is easily fixed.”
Looking down Mei knew she had not done as well in Pars as she could have, head lifted when Genji encouraged her rather than chided her. “You think so?”
“If I thought you would endanger my friends I would see you did not join them on the field.” Genji knew she was a rookie agent but she did want to help and deserved a chance to.
Shivering Mei looked to Lena who nodded, Genji could be very scary. “I am not sure how I feel about trying to hit either of you.”
“Not a problem,” Lena was not worried about sparring with Mei and Genji was literately a walking suit of armor with sharp things. When Mei looked confused she smiled reassuringly since Genji really couldn't with his helmet on. “See Genji can match the speed and strength of most Null Sector omnics so what you'll be doing is creating ice barriers and the like to keep him away from me.”
Mei glanced at Genji, “What if I hit him?”
“Mei don't worry about that the guy was chilling in Nepal,” Lena was not worried about Mei trapping Genji in ice, even if she did he would not stay trapped long.
Mei looked unsure, she had seen what her ice did to that giant omnic and Genji was much smaller. The cyborg uncrossed his arms as he glanced at the far wall and she blinked when he crossed the room in as much time. “Omnics can move that fast?!”
“No but I am something different, unique.” Genji answered after darting back to where he had been, “I will be just fine Mei and Lena can rewind time, even I'm not that good.”
Lena bowed, “He is pretty close though.” Winking Lena stretched, “So?”
“Well...I guess if you are both sure.” Mei still had her doubts but she knew how fast Lena was and Genji had just proven he could move faster than she could as well. She had to trust her senior teammates to know what they were doing, they are established heroes.
Genji nodded as he casually unzipped his hoodie, “Guns or no?”
Lena hummed thinking, “Guns. Swords or no?” Once they had gotten comfortable with each other they had added challenges to sparring, kept things fun.
“No, Null Sector can't deflect,” Genji answered as he walked over to a bench with a few towels and bottles of water resting on them. Laying his blades down he slipped his hoodie off and dropped it over them. White muscle-shirt shifting slightly as he turned to face Lena.
“Still can't wrap my head around you moved that fast with your organic arm.” Lena's inhuman speed had nothing to do with how fit her legs were.
Genji titled his head, “Ninja...how do you all forget that?”
“Being a ninja is not like being Batman Luv, it is not a catch all.” Lena reminded her friend fists on her hips.
“He was a ninja too just not a cybernetic one,” Genji countered crossing his arms.
“Oi!” Lena cried throwing her hands up in the air, “Next you'll blame it on ancient mythical powers.”
“I summon a dragon,” Genji could not keep the laughter out of his modulated voice, “even need to say magic words.”
“Stop being cheeky,” Lena muttered grinning, she really did not understand how he did half of what he did and it had nothing to do with her not begin an engineer.
“You want me to stop a lifelong habit just like that? How demanding you are, and not even asking nicely.” Genji shook his head, “tsk, tsk.”
Mei giggled at the teasing, Lena was great to have around and it seemed she was even better with Genji. “I do not mind.”
Genji glanced at Mei, she had an adorable smile, bowing his head, “Thank you.”
“Stop being charming for five we have sparring to do.” Lena teased ready to get started, she had missed sparring with her friends.
Sighing dramatically Genji turned his attention back to Lena, “Fine.” Closing his eyes he activated a new program he had added turning his neon green lights red, visor flashing, “When you are ready.”
Mei blinked before biting her lip, red lights made her a little nervous. Lena frowned slightly before nodding, zipping away to pick where she wanted to start. She had been informed that purple usually meant hacked, red was the default 'dangerous' omnic color unlike the pleasant blue, green was unique to Genji's cybernetics. Genji had been red once, maybe that is why he chosen green now. Hadn't Lena said he had dyed his hair green back when he was human? When Lena waved and Genji nodded she raised her gun. Lena grinned curling her finger, “Here ninja, ninja.”
OHHAYAYWEONLYGETBETTEROHHAYAYWEONLYGETBETTER
Mei frowned as Genji perched on an ice wall with more grace than the typical Null Sector omnic would, Lena a few walls away. With the mask on it was impossible to know what he was looking at exactly but she could guess. Shifting he leapt to another wall, feet landing lightly a few bits of melting ice falling away. Running along the line of ice as if it was not slippery Mei put another wall in his path her gun was getting heavy. Lena took off again and Genji simply punch the wall leaving a hole before backing up. Running he used the hole as a foothold to scale the wall, kicking off from the top he landed on a fallen wall and slid down it.
Lena ducked into a pile of fallen walls and Mei iced the way she had come. Genji leapt to the 'roof' and walked among the chunks of fallen ice. Lena watched him move through the clear ice but did not seem worried. The British pilot had been grinning most of the time, ad Mei was pretty sure Genji was too. When Genji stopped Mei frowned not seeing what he had at first. Raising on an ice platform she noticed a chunk that had started to impale the roof. Lazily flipping onto a chunk behind him Genji jumped and brought his right ankle down on the ice chunk breaking it and the roof.
Lena leapt and ran past him getting way too close for Mei's liking but it looked like Genji had just missed her. Laughing Lena stopped fists on her hips, “Normally I'd call you a pervert for grabbing at a lady's chest.”
Genji brushed some clinging ice shards off his right pant lag, “Normally you would be right to.”
“Must be getting tried for you to miss me like that, too much showy flipping will do that to you.” Lena loved watching him do them and all but Mei really did not need anymore proof Genji was awesome.
“Cybernetic legs and did I?” Genji smirked crossing his arms smugly as he nodded at her chest.
Looking down she pulled a shuriken from her harness, blinking up at Genji who bowed getting a laugh. “Owned.”
“This time,” Genji comforted as he walked up to her and patted her shoulder. Nodding he walked away and right off the roof. Stretching he turned his head when Lena jumped him, arms around his neck, “Yes?”
“Mei is going to make coco come!” Lena loved coco after playing in the snow, ice was close enough in the case.
Genji glanced at Mei, Angela new he often joined Lena for a snack after sparing so she would not be expecting him anytime soon. Shrugging he nodded, “You might want to change.”
“I'll meet you both!” Lena ran off dropping the shrunken into Mei's hands as she did so.
Mei blinked down at the dangerous weapon before turning to Genji who had grabbed a bottle of water. “Can she get tried?”
Genji chuckled as she pulled his mask off, “She's only human.”
“Can you?” Mei teased, smiling when he glanced at her.
“Takes a lot,” He had been designed to be able to fight and fight and fight and had been trained that way while a child. Genji pulled his headpiece off shaking his head before running his fingers through his hair. Neon green dyed bangs falling back into over his forehead too short to really hide his eyes. Taking a swig of chilled water he sighed, “Have fun?”
“I have not really sparred before but...it wasn't so bad.” Mei did not enjoy fighting but making walls to cut off enemies was much more fun.
Genji nodded slipping his hoodie back on, “Angela hated learning to kill as well.”
“Did you?” Mei bit her lip unsure if she had the right to ask that. Genji replaced his swords and she wondered if she had hurt his feelings.
“No...well not really. It helps my targets were bad guys just as they are now.” Genji sighed turning he held out a bottle of water for her, “You did well. Leave the killing to me just worry about covering our backs all right.”
Mei took the bottle sniffing, she had been told be everyone Genji did not do empty praise ever or even sparing feelings very often so if he said something nice he meant it. Holding out his shuriken she looked down, “You should have this back.”
Genji gently closed her fingers over the throwing blade, “A souvenir from your first group training session.”
Looking up Mei sniffed again, Genji's dark eyes were so warm, “Genji...”
Genji nodded before pulling her close, “You are doing fine Mei, do not try and force yourself to be anything the team needs you.”
Sniffing a third time Mei closed her arms around Genji, face burying itself into his shoulder. Smooth armor plating was surprisingly comfortable under the soft layers of cloth, a hand at her back and an arm along the small of her back was grounding. “Ninja training cover this too?”
“Lena,” Genji answered moving his thumb soothingly even though Mei was not crying, “She is a master hugger.”
“You were a very good student,” Mei had not expected being held but it felt good, sometimes you just needed a hug.
“She will happy to hear that,” Genji squeezed before pulling away, “she also really likes chocolate.”

Echo titled her head watching Angela touch a pendant she was wearing under her shirt, she had been doing so from time to time after coming to her office after sparing had ended without injury. She had not been wearing anything before dinner so it was a new gift. “Did Genji give you something?” When Angela froze Echo frowned slightly, studying human non-verbal communication helped her better understand. Just listening she gathered the pair was close, she had been curricle in saving Genji's life and his care so that made perfect sense.
Angela froze fingers on her dragon, reminding herself they had done nothing wrong she turned to face the omnic, “Why do you ask?”
“You keep touching the pendant you are wearing indicating it is important to you since there seems to be no reason for it to be a nervous habit.” Echo answered, conflicting human emotions were fascinating. “Jesse often spoke of you and Genji when he was my guard, he is found of you both.”
Smiling Angela nodded, “We are found of him as well.” She had liked Jesse early on, he was cocky but kind and over time he had lost a lot of the overly cocky but little of the kind.
“You are hiding your relationship?” Echo was unsure why they would do that since she had heard a few stories from her teammates about the pair. There was little evidence anyone would reject the relationship.
“In a way. We decided not to say anything until Jesse was back with us, he has teased us both so long it would a bit unfair for him to miss the announcement.”
Echo smiled, “Jesse would be hurt...and he just got back so you're letting him get settled first?”
“Yes,” Angela was not worried about saying anything, Genji was busy right now but he seemed rather unbothered by the whole thing.
“I won't say a thing than,” Echo wanted to rush off and find Jesse to tell him the good news but it would be best for him to hear it from either Angela or Genji.
“Thank you Echo.” Angela was still coming to grips with the fact Genji was finally hers herself. A new home, a new team, a second chance for them all. “Have you had a chance to speak with Genji?”
“Not really,” Echo admitted as she shifted her wings into a chair, “I am most curious about a human's take on the Iris and his would be...unique.”
Angela nodded, she had learned a bit about the Shambali from Lena on the flight to King's Row and later from Genji himself but she was no expert. “Well his master is their leader.”
“Do you believe in the Iris?” While Angela had a holy name and look to her hero persona it did not mean she was very religious herself, nor did that belief transfer to an omnic. She liked omnics and hated to fight them but that did not mean she saw them as equal to humans.
“I see no reason why a machine that can feel the same range of emotions a human can would not have the same potential to have a soul. No AI mimicking humans could have helped Genji as Zenyatta had and than there is you.” Angela did not think every omnic was fully sentient but those that were might as well be human minds in metal body much as Genji was. “If you wish to speak with him I am sure he will head to the kitchen after he and Lena are done playing.”
“He will not be busy?” Echo knew Genji was one of the quieter members of the team, not unfriendly just quiet.
“If he is you can catch him after his morning meditation, you could even join him if you wish.” Angela had joined him a few times, the view from his balcony was gorgeous but time, and lack of sleep, did not always make it possible. A few times she had simply slept curled up in his lap as the quiet and calm was very lulling.
Echo nodded, fingers curling around her chin, “Thanks.”
Angela smiled, “Of course.” Watching the omnic fly off she giggled, Echo was as curious as a child and it was hard not to find that endearing.

Mei smiled as she poured steaming thick dark liquid into three large mugs, the smell of chocolate strong in the air. “We drank a lot of coco and tea back on base.”
“I like playing in the snow but I am not a cold kind of gal,” Lena comment shaking her head, lose pale blue tee shirt shifting.
Genji shrugged as he folded his arms on the table, “My home base is in Nepal now, cold never bothered me much anyway.”
“I blame the dragon powers for that one,” Lena loved jackets for a reason beyond fashion.
“Ours don't breath fire,” Genji countered scrunching his left sleeve up, jacket still unzipped.
“Lighting is still pretty hot,” Lena had to admit spitting lighting was scarier than breathing fire.
“Fair enough,” Genji conceded resting his cheek in his hand.
Mei sprinkled a dusting of coco powder over the large dollop of homemade whipped cream, why make coco from scratch and use caned whipped cream? Turning with two mugs she smiled when Snowball flew over to hover before Genji chirping at him. Smiling Genji took the mug with a nod of his head. Handing Lena her mug she sat down at the head of the table. “I learned this recipe from Jesse, hope you like it.”
“There's no whiskey in this is there?” Lena didn't mind hard drinks but she always wanted to know when she was given one.
“No,” Mei frowned not sure she would enjoy the taste of that addition though it did sound like Jesse.
Genji chuckled softly before sipping his, “You'll like it.”
Trusting Genji, even with his less sensitive sense of taste, Lena took a sip and blinked, “oooh this is good!”
Mei relaxed smiling, she enjoyed making comfort food for others and learning how the same food differed from culture to culture. “Glad you like it.”
“Should I be jealous Snowball served Genji over me?” Lena winked at the little omnic so he knew she was only teasing.
“Have you petted him lately?” Genji asked titling his head.
“Well...no,” Lena admitted, she always talked to the little guy but did not always pet him.
“There you go,” Genji reached out patting the omnic on his head getting a happy chirp.
“He does love the attention,” Mei was pleased to see the others taking to Snowball, Lena and Genji were pro-omnic so it was no surprise they liked him.
“Have you considered making him a little brother or sister?” It was not as if they could not use a few more adorable floating omnics around. “Maybe one ATHENA could use?”
“That could be a nice surprise for Winston,” Mei considered, the AI might enjoy being able to move around.
A beep drew Lena's attention, “Sorry Luvs but Em's home and I haven't been able to talk to her in a few.”
“Go,” Genji ordered shooing her with a wave of his hand.
“Wait, she asked me if the advice she gave you worked out for you...no clue what she was talking about.” Lena was curious what the pair had talked about but since they had gotten along it was all good.
“It worked out very well and I will be more than happy to tell her all about it, no shoo.” Genji was not going to out Angela and his relationship without making sure Angela was ready for the others to know. Lena and Jesse deserved to hear about it first once a choice was made.
Lena sighed dramatically, “Fine don't spill, jerk.” Zipping forward she kissed his cheek before zipping away.
Genji chuckled shaking his head, “So how much of this did you make?”
“Enough for four, I was hoping Angela would join us.” Mei had liked the doctor from the start, her wings were so pretty.
“When Angela gets busy she forgets all about little things like eating and sleeping.” Genji sighed softly hold the mug in both hands. He was rather singled minded and more than a little stubborn so he really had no leg to stand on.
“I guess you would know better than most,” Mei commented innocently blinking when he blinked at her. “You spent a while in her care so you got to know her pretty well right? It must have made it a little better having such a kind doctor.”
Sighing Genji looked down and away, “I despised her for doing this to me at first.” He hated to admit it but Mei deserved the truth from him. “For the better part of a decade I did not consider myself human, I was an abomination, a weapon, a fake. In truth I do not know how they all stood me for so long. It was only recently I moved past rage, hate, and despair and made peace with what I have become.”
“oh...Well I like who you are now,” Lena had liked Genji than so had Winston so he could not have been that bad right? Mei could not imagine living through what Lena said he had and Angela had seen the entire aftermath. She had seen Genji's ravaged body from the inside out and put him back together as best as she could.
Genji smiled at that, “So do I. It took dying to become a better man, the man I always should have been.”
“Lena did say you were stubborn,” Mei teased standing, grinning when Genji laughed at that. His laugh was so cute, it made him look like a little kid.
“It is the blessing and a curse of the Shimada clan, our force of will is as legendary as our dragons.” Genji had made it through more than one fight due to will alone and he would again.
Mei poured the last of the coco into a pale green mug, “Not sure I would want to be able to call dragons.”
“They are call on to kill so no...they would like you though,” Genji smiled when Mei blinked at him over her shoulder. “They tend to like who their humans do and I like you.”
“Nice to know your scary dragon won't eat me,” Mei teased turning back to fishing off the coco. “I'm going to take this to Angela.”
"She loves chocolate so it won't go to waste,” Genji made a mental note to get some Swiss chocolate for when Angela needed a little treat after a bad day.
“Good to know...good night Genji,” Mei bowed her head.
Genji bowed his own head, “Good night Mei.”

Angela sighed looking up at a knock, she had been straightening up her desk after Echo had left. “Enter.”
“I brought you some coco, Genji said you liked chocolate.” Mei glanced at the pretty bird and cheery blossom dotted branch and smiled. “That is very pretty.”
“Basewarming gift,” Angela explained giving it a found smile before accepting the mug.
“It brighten ups the room a bit,” Mei wouldn't mind getting one for her lab.
“Genji bought it for me while visiting Emily with Lena you'd have to ask him more about it.” Angela did agree with it brightening up the room a bit, perhaps she should look into some paintings for the bare sterile white walls?
“Figures a ninja would have an eye for detail,” Mei smiled at the little bird.
“That he does. So how did the sparring go?” Angela asked before sipping the coco, “ah Jesse's favorite.”
“Genji said I am doing fine, even gave me a souvenir,” Mei pulled the shuriken from her pocket, it looked so sharp just existing she was in no hurry to find out how sharp it really was.
“Well, well I am impressed. It is good to hear, only his friends get one they don't have to pull out of a body to claim.” She had a red and now green one as well as an older one he had still used as a human she was not sure if he remembered she had that one.
Mei bit her lip, “ow. Is it all right if I ask you a personal question?”
“Of course Mei, as long as it isn't a medical question I cannot answer as a doctor.” Angela knew what medical facts her friends were all right with the others know and which one they were not happy even she knew.
“Genji said he despised you for making him a cyborg...things must have really changed.” Mei could not see the pair hating each other, lover spats aside.
“At first he did. His clan ordered his own brother to cut him down and Hanzo was cruel in following that order. Genji survived only because our overseers wanted him to use against his clan and it was my job to keep him alive. He was not happy to have been made into a cyborg without his consent, there was no way to stabilize him long enough to ask.” Angela closed her eyes he had been in so much pain than and she could not help him. “He is so much better now, he is almost an entirely different person.”
“Do you miss the old Genji?” Mei had never known him and it was hard to miss someone you had never met.
“No,” Angela answered sadly. “He was in so much pain and no one could ease it for more than a moment at a time. I didn't know him before the fight but I do not ever wish to see him suffering like that again.”
Mei nodded, “I like him as he is now, he has a great laugh.”
Anela smiled fondly, “That he does.”
OHHAYAYWEONLYGETBETTEROHHAYAYWEONLYGETBETTER
Echo hovered into the kitchen after Mei walked out, Genji glanced up at her as he titled his head at her indicating curiosity. “May I join you?” When Genji nodded she sat down across from him studying him as she did so. With his mask off his face was visible and that made it easier to read him. “I am told you prefer when someone gets to the point when making a request of you...is that accurate?”
A brow arched, “Normally that is reserved for people I do not paralytically like...if being blunt would make the request easier by all means.”
Echo nodded making note of that, Genji had changed the most since joining BlackWatch than OverWatch so she needed to rectify various anecdotes with the current man. “I am curious about the Shambali and Angela informed me you are a student of Tekhartha Zenyatta.”
Genji nodded, “Zenyatta helped me accept what I have become.”
“How? Sorry to be nosy I am just very curious about the Iris.” Echo was unsure if she had crossed a line being so bold.
“How...most people understand after I tell them about a conversation we had.” Genji did not know Echo well but if Jesse liked her how bad could she be? He was not Zenyatta but if he could help a fellow soul find some of the peace he had he had to try.
“I am willing to listen,” Echo was used to listening to stories to gain insight, humans loved telling them and hearing what wisdom had helped the cyborg would no doubt be insightful in more ways than one.
Nodding Genji sighed, it felt like another life but it had not been all that long ago really. “He came to check on me since I was sitting outside in the snow and my original armor was not as...complete or upgraded as what I wear now.” Echo nodded she had seen footage of his older appearance. “I assured him I was fine, our base was in Switzerland at the time. The cold on my face reminded of the man I was and no longer could be. I mentioned the others being like family in a way but that every moment with them reminded me of the parts of me that weren't human and even at the monastery I feared I would never belong.”
“That sounds very lonely,” Echo had been happy to see Jesse when she reactivated and seeing Winston again was very nice as well. Maybe she would never understand how a human could feel inhuman.
“Yeah...Zenyatta had said nothing he just sat there staring at me listening, normal. After a moment he simply asked a question, again pretty normal for him. He asked if I thought he had a soul. I had not expected that and it threw me. He noticed and was quick to sooth, assuring me he had not asked to alarm me or distract me from my thoughts. He had asked because he was unsure himself.”
“That is a question humans wrestle with as well so it makes sense he would ask you.” Echo was still not sure what a soul was or if she had one but time would tell.
Genji nodded, he had not said a word as Zenyatta had spoken than he thoughts focused on the omnic rather than himself. “It seems omnics were often told a soul is what defines a being but he did not entirely agree. Humans always ask how we can believe an omnic has good intentions when their coding shapes who they are. Proof more people need to met someone like Zenyatta. A human can do good deeds for goods sake, but an omnic will only do it because they are ordered and orders have changed in the past. Yeah because humans are all saints.”
Echo smiled at the muttering, it was clear Genji did not believe that nonsense. Before the Awaking omincs might have been like that but not anymore. “Most of you are all right.”
“Thanks. He continued talking about how he and his brothers rebelled, claiming they were just like like humans. That they were the same underneath. Zenyatta did not agree. He said the humans had a point they were not the same. That at our cores were a vastly different beings, but that did not make omnics less. They bicker, love, hurt, think, therefore they are. But they cling to the things that make them us the same, makes us human. We are unique in our existence why do we try and prove we are not?”
“Rather than trying to prove we are the same as humans we should focus on how unique every life is and how that is what we have in common?” Echo liked that idea, every one there was vastly different from the next yet were similar where it mattered ad fought for a brighter future no mater what that personally meant to them.
Smiling Genji nodded, “Seems you have a pretty good understanding of things already.”
“I have studied it a bit. What did you say to all of that?” Echo wanted to hear more of this story. What did Genji say, how had this helped him?
“He placed his hand on my left shoulder, I could feel it through the blanket easily. It was what he said after doing that that really stuck with me. 'There is nothing like you Genji. It is hard, I understand, but it is not wrong. It is not ugly. I hope you feel proud of that someday. I hope you let your individuality set you free.' After that he informed he would be joining the others for meditation soon and asked if he should bring me some tea. No doubt worried I was getting cold, I was a bit careless so he was right to worry a little. I smiled and told him to go inside I would join him, that was day everything changed for the better.” Genji smiled fondly, at the memory.
“You never answered his question?” Echo wanted to know what Genji thought.
“I did later. If I have one than surly he does too,” Genji could not believe someone as compassionate as Zenyatta could not have a soul. Nothing soulless would have cared about him so much.
Echo tapped her chin, “That makes sense. Thank you for sharing that Genji.”
“Glad it helped,” Genji stood moving to put his mug in the sink, it was pretty easy to talk to Echo.
“It did...good night Genji,” Echo would have a lot to think about to night.
“Good night Echo,” Genji bowed his head before walking away.

Angela yawned as she entered her room, smiling when she saw Genji already curled up in her bed. She had not slept as well as she otherwise would have without him near not surprised he had faired a bit better. With Jesse safe and sound and Genji close she would get a good night's sleep tonight. Laying down she giggled when Genji pulled her close, lips brushing he neck. “mmm...nice and warm.”
“Happy to be of service,” Genji murmured into pale skin.
Sighing softly at the warmth ghosting over her skin Angela shifted slightly pleased how well she fit against Genji. “much better.” Snuggled into a warm bed and warmer lover with no early morning waiting to rob her of either was just what she needed. Feeling Genji's soft chuckle along her spine she sighed again, she loved it when he purred.

Angela sat up with a yawn stretch frowning slightly when she noted she was alone in bed. Slipping out of bed she wondered where Genji had wandered off to so early since he was not sitting outside on her balcony meditating as he sometimes did. He would not leave the base without leaving her a note, no emergency had happened that would require his skills and not her own as well. Lost in thought she headed for the kitchen since that was a logical place to find people in the morning even if they did not require to eat as much as a normal human, if anyone on base besides the staff counted as normal really. Lost in musings she walked into the room hearing a voice but not recognizing it at first since it was a friend's.
Genji was chiding someone as one would a naughty child and since it was in Japanese she wondered if it might be Soba? Catching sight of the roughly cat sized dragon sitting on the counter Angela giggled when she stuck out her tongue at Genji. Genji responding with an all so mature shove of a cherry into her muzzle. Laughing Angela waved when Genji turned to blink at her, “Oh don't mind me you two. Is there coffee?” Angela smiled innocently as if she had not walked in on her cybernetic ninja lover fighting with his mythical guardian spirit like two children.
“There's breakfast to go with it if you are hungry Tenshi,” Genji answered holding out another cheery for Soba who took it with a happy chirp.
“So did you get up to feed her, me...both mayhap?” Angela cooed as she moved to sit down at the island since it was just the three of them. She really should not be getting used to a dragon in her life so quickly but Soba was adorable. Before she had met Genji she had believed dragons were simple myths and at times metaphors, as interesting as they could be, after there was no denying their existence. It made her wonder if European dragons had truly been hunted to extinction by knights where Asian ones had simply gone into hiding with or without human allies.
“Master called,” Genji answered as he made up a plate for her. “He is fine.” Answering the unasked question that was only naturally to ask.
Angela nodded, Zenyatta likely knew how Genji felt about her but might not know his student was not sleeping alone most nights now. “Checking up on you?”
Genji frowned over his shoulder, “Please, he has better things to do than babysit me across time zones.”
“Never stopped me from trying when I knew where you were,” Angela teased only half joking. She was grateful Moira had never gotten her damned clawed hands on Genji and it had little to do with jealousy.
“He was curious how the base is coming along,” Genji set a steaming mug before Angela. “Wants to visit when it is calm.”
“Oh that would be lovely,” Zenyatta was a wonderful sounding person and God knew she was curious about his healing orbs. Genji had explained how they worked but mythical Asian energies were not her wheelhouse. Angela really wanted to sit down and learn more about Zenyatta and why he had deiced to try and help Genji. She had heard a few stories from Genji himself and it had only made her more curious. Opening her mouth to ask more she left it open gaping when Genji set down a plate for her. “How long have you been up?”
Genji chuckled as he rested his elbows on the counter, “A few hours and playboys are good at breakfast. Enjoy my years of practice.”
Angela rolled her eyes, she did often forget Genji had been a playboy before that fateful fight. Watching him sip his own coffee she smirked, “The others would not approve of you showing off some of your other perfected skills in the kitchen.” A brow arched and Angela just smiled sweetly as she took a forkful of vanilla and cheery scented pancakes. Taking a bite she sighed, “Should I get used to this?”
Genji shrugged, “You want spoiled every morning just say so Tenshi.”
“Eating like this every morning would go right to my hips,” Angela licked a drop of cherry syrup from her lip absently. As a flyer keeping extra pounds off was important even more so than it was for the others.
“I could help with that,” Genji offered with a wicked smirk.
“I see your evil master plan now, very clever,” Angela laughed when Genji just winked at her teasing. If they were not working to save the world she would jump at the offer of a homemade breakfast followed by a workout back in her room everyday.
Sighing Genji shrugged, “Oh well, worth a try eh Soba?” Soba shook her head at him before climbing up his arm to rest on his shoulders.
“You aren't worried about the others seeing her?” Angela was not sure what the rules were, if there even were any. For all she knew Soba was invisible to everyone she did not wish to see her.
“Other than Lena wanting one too?” Genji reached up to absently scratch Soba under her chin. “I think we can trust the others.”
Angela could not help but smile at the adorable scene, she had never thought of Genji as a pet person. “I would very much hope so. You are so going to play tricks on them aren't you?”
“Once a Troll always a Troll Tenshi,” Genji answered grinning, nothing wrong with a bit of harmless fun.
THEREISNOTHINGWRONGWITHACTINGONYOUREMOTIONS
Lena huffed chin resting in her hands, ankles crossed over her back, “Still not sure how I feel about you keeping secretes from me.”
Emily smiled, “You would prefer I talk about your friends behind their backs?”
“Aw are you scared?” Lena cooed before laughing, “Enough joshing I'll just pester him.”
Sighing Emily shook her head, “Just can't be happy your unofficially adopted ninja brother and I got on so well.”
“I knew he would adore you because he has amazing taste in female friends.” Lena loved the female members of OverWatch even if she felt there could be more of them. Former Playboy or not Genji had been good to her and that was all that mattered to her.
“The fact he not only took my advice but understood it spoke volumes to me. Not that having at least one you're lucky you're cute friend is a bad thing.” Emily had been thrilled to met any members of Lena's adoptive family she had been able to so far. She had only met a handful so there were plenty left to get to know.
Lena smiled, “He has gotten better about taking advice and having friends in general.”
“I would worry if he got worst,” Emily teased grinning back, it was really only funny as a joke.
Giggling Lena nodded, “Oi scary thought. What are you up to anyway?”
“Just doing a bit of shopping before the weather turns,” Emily answered before frowning. “I know Angela likes chocolate but does Genji?”
Lena hummed, “Seems to. He mentioned an old friend who preferred strawberry, vanilla goes with everything but chocolate is almost as good. Why?”
“I would like to have snacks your friends might like on hand in case you bring another home without even a ring.” Emily wondered what Swiss chocolate was the best and if she would need to import some.
“Always keep a pie on hand, Jesse loves pie.” Lena smiled it was easy to make the cowboy smile.
“Pie, Swiss chocolate, peanut butter...I'm going to gain 5 stones just thinking of the list.” Emily teased smiling, not like she had to train to keep save the world ready.
“You'd look cute with puffy chipmunk cheeks Luv,” Lena half teased with a grin.
“True,” Emily grinned right back, she had always loved Lena's sense of humor.
“I'll text you their favorite snacks and drinks so you can have them on hand.” Lena had such important information saved. What her friends preferred when happy, sad, homesick, sick sick, it had come in handy more than once.
Emily smiled nodding, “That would be great. Any idea when you will get a little time off again?”
Lena sighed, “Nope. The heavy lifting is done and all that, finally, but Winston wants us all on base until we are all full stocked up and ready. Well except Genji who he let go play fetch, not that the guy would have taken no for an answer.”
“You did say he was a protective kitty...dragon...those Asian dragons do have fur...I wonder if they purr?” Emily tapped her finger off her chin in thought.
Giggling Lena shook her head, “Bet they do if you rub their bellies or scratch their ears.”
Shaking her head with a chuckle Emily smiled, “I'll have to ask your brother.”
“You could ask Angela,” Lena cooed before laughing, she knew she missed messing with Genji's hair even if he did not have cute furry ears to scratch.
“I would be delighted to sit down and have a chat with the good doctor. Sorry to cut it short but I really do need to finish these errands before I end up looking like a half drowned cat by the time I get home.” Emily was not in the mood to get soaked by cold rain today, busy or not.
Lena nodded, “No worries Luv you can always ring me when you have more time to talk.”
“That sounds like a lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon. Be nice to the dragon now or you might have an angry angel after you.” Emily winked with a grin, she did enjoy a bit of friendly ribbing.
Lena waved her girlfriend's concerns off, “They both adore me so I'll be fine. Stay dry now.”
“Will try.”
Lena smiled blowing Emily a kiss, beaming at her as she ended the call. It had been nice to talk to Emily even if it had been a short call. Winston assured her she would be able to test out their new fleet soon. Genji had his own 'toy' he had been able to play with and she was thrilled he had taken an interest in piloting. They had a new transport, two new evacuation transports and a small fleet of smaller more personal ships similar to Genji's. Smaller teams would likely be the norm between all hands on deck full blown attacks. Getting to her feet she decided to get a snack before hunting down Genji and seeing if he cared to spar a bit. Jesse had his room to make his own but he may enjoy a bit of competitive shooting later. Pleased she had a few fun ways to spend a few hours before Emily called back she grabbed her charged phone before leaving her room.
THEREISNOTHINGWRONGWITHACTINGONYOUREMOTIONS
“Jesse have you seen Genji?” Lena asked poking her head into his room since the door was half open, which meant come on in in Jesse.
Jesse looked up from the bug out bag he was packing, “Sorry Darling, no dragon sightings since breakfast. Angie?”
Lena shook her head, “Said he said something about him taking care of something but no one seems to have seen him for hours.”
Jesse frowned as he turned around, arms crossing, “I'm sure he's around here somewhere.”
“He's probably up on some roof communing with nature or whatever you do when you meditate.” Lena scrunched her nose, she had no patience for just sitting around.
“Depends on the person.”
Lena jumped with a squeak before turning, “Genji!?”
Genji nodded tilting his head as he crossed his arms, “Lena.”
“Where have you been I've been running all over the base looking for you?” Lena demanded frowning at the cyborg she knew was grinning even if she could not see it.
“You could have just sent a text,” Genji reminded his energetic friend with a shake of his head.
Lena huffed crossing her arms, “And you could just answer me.”
“First why were you looking for me?” Genji asked evenly, he doubted it was anything drastic since she was teasing him rather than clinging to him.
“I wanted to kill a few hours while I wait for Emily to ring me back.” Lena answered, turning to Jesse over her shoulder, “I figured you would be busier since you just got back.”
Jesse held up a hand, “No need Darling no offense taken.”
“I guess we could go spar if you still wish to,” Genji shrugged as she uncrossed his arms, “doubt you will tough.”
Lena eyed Genji suspicious of his wording, “Why, what did you do?”
“Lena I am hurt,” Genji admonished with mock hurt, head shaking solemnly, hand on his chest. “Perhaps you do not deserve your surprise?”
“Surprise?” Lena asked eyes lighting up, “Where, where?”
“Right here Luv.”
“Emily!?” Lena cried jumping to Genji's right and hugging her girlfriend tightly.
Emily hugged Lena back eyes closing with a smile, “Surprise.”
Lena turned to look up at Genji, “Spoiler.”
Genji nodded, “Owed her a thank you for her sage advice, and Winston seems to enjoy sending me to play fetch for the women in my life.”
Lena let Emily go so she could hug Genji, “Thank you.”
“Anytime,” Genji assured her holding her close for a moment before letting her go. “Now shoo, you can set her up in whatever room she'll be staying in before lunch.”
Jesse smirked as Lena pulled Emily along behind her chatting a mile a minuet as she went. “Nice to know you're keeping busy and out of trouble.”
Genji shrugged, “Angela would tie me down if I got into trouble while everything is quite.”
“Not in the fun way eh?” Jesse teased with a grin, laughing when Genji crossed his arms with a snort. “Now, now we've all been threaten with it at least once.”
Genji chuckled shaking his head, “I had enough of those beds my first few months like this, they are….uncomfortable.”
Jesse frowned a bit concerned but Genji was calm so let it go, “You even come with a leash.” Reaching out he gave the ribbon a gentle tug.
Genji tilted his head before bring his fingers up, “hiss.”
Chuckling Jesse patted the top of his friend's helmet, “There, there good Lizard.”
“Cowboys,” Genji drawled crossing his arms but leaving Jesse's hand where it was.
“Yes we are charming I know,” Jesse cooed as he removed his hand. “Feelin' better?” Genji titled his head questioningly. “I don't need be that sage master of yours to know you feel like you owe us.”
Genji sighed nodding, “Emily believes saving your lives multiple times should earn me a second chance.”
Jesse nodded patting Genji's shoulder this time, “Partner we're good. We all left remember? Sure you could have said goodbye but you were here when the team needed you as always. So yeah, second chance is the least we owe each other.”
“True...good to know you are still smarter than you look.” Genji had questioned Jesse's intelligence based on his attire when they first met. Thankfully the American proved to be insightful and loyal even if he was not a genius beyond his shooting ability.
“What can I say lab coats look better on Angie than me?” Jesse gave a helpless shrug, the good doctor was a beautiful woman with a heart to match.
Genji glanced at Jesse, “They would clash with your hat.”
“Exactly,” Jesse agreed nodding, “knew you'd understand.”
“It suits you,” Genji could not picture Jesse without his beloved hat unless he was laying in a hospital bed.
“Aw stop you're makin' me blush,” Jesse teased grinning, it felt good to have the band back together. Ashe knew she had the option to join them and it might take years but he had hope she would come around in time.
“You look good in red,” Genji cooed laughing when Jesse pulled his hat down a bit. “Adorable.”
“Oh go tease Angie and let me finish packing you troublesome Lizard.” Jesse would not mind spending the rest of the day bantering with Genji but he really needed to be ready to fight when needed and being distracted while packing could cause him to miss something vital.
Genji nodded, “See you soon than Cowboy.”

Emily smiled slipping her phone back into her pocket after finishing an amusing series of texts with Winston asking how he felt about crunchy peanut butter. She had never had a serious conversation about peanut butter before but he gave her a few things to think about. Eyeing the bags she nodded her lists completed. Heading for her car she nodded with a smile at the nice young man who held tipped his hat at her as she pushed her cart past him. The skies were darker gray than they had been when she had entered but she still hoped she could get home before they opened up on her. Closing her boot she sighed softly, home a steaming cup of tea sounded marvelous right now. “Bad time?”
Jumping slightly at the sudden voice she turned knowing it, “Genji?!”
Genji nodded holding up his hand, “Yo.”
“Wha-why are you...is Lena all right?” Emily had just spoken to her roughly an hour ago surly nothing had happened in so short a time.
“She's fine Emily,” Genji answered hands up. “She is the only one who can pilot all of our transports so she cannot just jet off, I can.”
Emily relaxed eyeing the cyborg, “You're here to kidnap me aren't you?”
“As long as now is not a bad time,” Genji was not sure what was in all those bags beyond food.
“Not at all,” Emily glanced at her car. “I just need to head home and pack a few things...or did you already take care of that already Mr Ninja?”
“Lena may have mentioned you have a bag ready in case she drops by to whisk you away for a long weekend. Remind me to update your security the next time I drop by, I could have easily broken in when I was a child.” Genji really was surprised she did not have a better system, not that there was much to steal really. Lena was not as security conscious as a ninja, it would take less than an hour.
“Well thankfully ninja are rare here in jolly old England but I would welcome a look.” Emily knew Lena would worry less if she knew Genji had made sure the place could keep Talon agents out.
Genji nodded pleased with her answer, sooner or later someone would come after her to get to and/or back at Lena. Anyone who dared would meet the same end as a few late members of his clan, gore spattered in all corners of a room and hanging from the ceiling left a very clear message. Coming after active agents was one thing their civilian friends and family would be met with such violent force only a fool would do it again. Genji was very good at sending that kind of message. “Do you want to drop off your car?”
Emily frowned not sure what he meant before looking up when he pointed skyward, seeing the jet hovering silently above them. “Might as well bring it with me.” Nodding Genji spoke quickly as he moved away from her and she watched the jet land in the rather empty parking lot. Slipping behind the wheel she backed up and parked in the hold exiting her car as the door closed. Walking up to the cockpit she nodded to Genji as she sat down in the co-pilot seat. “Is this legal?”
Genji glanced at her, “About as half of what I do on a given day.”
“So not really than?” Emily had heard a few stories from Lena about her outlaw raised big brothers.
“Exactly,” Genji smirked taking off not concerned, there was a reason the jet was unmarked.
Nodding Emily waited until he removed his hands from any controls before speaking again, “Lena really wants to know what advice I gave you that worked out so well...care to share?”
“I already told her I would tell you all about it, you are free to tell her if you wish.” Genji removed his helmet with a soft sigh, setting it in his lap he crossed his arms loosely.
“I would enjoy hearing about the results of my advice,” Emily shifted so she was facing Genji giving him her full attention. She was enjoying getting to know the people her Lena talked about so often, and Genji was pretty easy to talk to for a 'stoic' guy.
“While wandering the city I came across the perfect gift, something most would dismiss as simply pretty.” He could count on one hand the number of people alive who knew his childhood nickname and would live after using it. “My father used to call me suzume, it means sparrow.”
“Sparrow...pretty little birds. Did the rest of your family call you that too?” Emily had heard some strange nicknames parents gave their children, she was not sure if sparrow was strange or not but she thought it was cute.
Genji shook his head, “Hanzo from time to time the elders used it mockingly, I made sure those knew just who was killing them later in life. Master and Angela are really the only two who use it now.”
Emily nodded quite for a moment, she wondered a bit if anyone besides his father and brother had been good to him before his 'death'? Lena had never mentioned his mother so she assumed she had died while he was young if not even in childbirth. “You got her a sparrow, that is adorable.”
Genji smiled fondly, “She agrees. I also got her a very expensive piece of jewelry.”
“Smart boy,” Emily teased grinning at him, “and after she got her presents?”
“She got what she really wanted,” Genji answered glancing at the clear sky out the window.
Emily reached out and laid her hand on his wrist, “I am a sucker for happy endings.”
Genji laid a hand over hers, “You are almost as good at giving advice as my master. Have you ever considered becoming a sage?”
“That is sweet but I perter to stick to a small flock,” Emily was more than happy to share her wisdom and shoulders with Lena's found family but the masses...that was a bit over whelming.
Genji chuckled softly, “So does he.”

Angela giggled when strong arms encircled her waist, reaching up to ruffle dark hair when Genji laid his cheek on her shoulder. “Errand all done than?”
“Lena is thrilled with her surprise so yes,” Genji answered smiling as Angela played with his hair.
“Good,” Angela turned her head kissing Genji before smiling at him, “Missed you.”
“Next time I'll bring you with me,” Genji promised more than happy to take Angela somewhere nice.
“Yes, you will.” Angela touched her pendant with a slight frown, “Jesse knows.”
“He is observant Tenshi,” Genji was not concerned Jesse was their friend after all.
“We should tell the others soon,” Angela knew the others teased them, they had for years, but knowing and having it confirmed were two different things.
“Dinner,” Genji responded, “Lena may just skip lunch and she deserves to hear it from us.” Kissing Angela's neck he sighed softly, “So much happy yelling today.”
Angela sighed softly enjoying Genji's warmth against her back, “It is the best kind of yelling Genji.” Closing her eyes she smiled, “Personally I am not against skipping lunch today either.” She could feel Genji's chuckle and she smiled, “Decided then.”

Emily walked into the kitchen spotting Genji sitting on the counter listening to Mei tell a story about her old team. Lena had explained Mei's team had all died in cryo while the Fall was going on, that had to have been insane to wake up to. Mei was finishing up icing a cake while she seemed to ramble a bit, a pretty normal nervous habit. Genji was leaning forward slightly and seemed to be listening but she was not sure if this was a ramble because I am nervous story or a I am really trying to bond story. It seemed like some cute moments between her old team and Snowball.
Glancing at the table she assumed the others would start wandering in soon. Glancing back she smiled at Genji who nodded in greeting as she walked up to the very different pair, “Shame you make them so pretty and they will be gone so soon.”
“Something is not beautiful because it lasts, or so it is said.” Angela said walking up to Emily, “And what have we said about cats on counters?”
“Nyan?” Genji teased tilting his head.
Mei smiled at the antics she had only heard about until recently, “Well...he has been very well behaved.”
Angela shook her head, “Cats are sneaky like that.”
“Bet he just wants to steal some icing,” Emily grinned joining in.
Genji sighed rapping artificial knuckles off a metal temple, “Helmet.”
“It comes off,” Lena reminded her friend popping her head between Emily and Angela. Pecking Emily's cheek she giggled when Genji hissed at her. “Isn't he cute when he pretends he's mad at me?”
Emily smiled at her girlfriend, “You two are going be like this the whole time aren't you?”
“If you mean adorable yes. Sorry Luv can't help it.” Lena shrugged grinning, she knew she could pull off cute in her sleep.
Genji hoped off the counter, stretching before loosely crossing his arms, “You are the one dating her, accept your fate with grace.”
Lena frowned, “Wait am I insulted by that or not?”
Genji shrugged, “Master's the mind reader not me.”
Angela smiled walking over to Genji and patting his shoulder, “We should all be so lucky to have a cutie like Lena.”
Lena laughed covering her cheeks, “Stop I'm blushing. You two are scary sometimes.”
Genji tilted his head before shaking it, “Scared of ghosts at your age.”
Chuckling Angela playfully slapped Genji's chest, “Enough of that Casper.”
Emily glanced at Mei before they both laughed, “Lena was not exaggerating when she said you all were a lot of fun off duty.”
Lena sighed, “If we were as serious off duty as on I think we all would be right proper mad by now.”
Genji snorted shaking his head, “Felt that way when we were expected to fix every omnic problem around the world yesterday.”
“Sadly people do not understand how long it takes to solve serious and complex issues. Even if all we did was destroy the omnic it would still take some time.” Angela rested her temple on Genji's shoulder. “As it is we will be busy again once more soon enough.”
“Personally I would not mind being able to be out in the field helping people.” Mei admitted finishing the flowers on the sheet cake. “I have learned a few things since Paris.”
“Soon enough Mei,” Lena assured her friend hugging her shoulders.
Emily smiled, “Personally I would like to get settled before any lifesaving is needed.”
“Well you can at least get a good meal,” Mei said as she waved at them in a shooing manner. Giggling as the small group moved to the table and sat down Mei nodded moving to grab the now chilled freshly made sweet tea and lemonade from the fridge. “It has taken a bit of getting used to with so many being around after it only being a few for so long.”
Emily nodded as she sat down, “Been here a few times but am looking forward to meeting more of Lena's family.”
“Lunch isn't the best time for that Luv,” Lena reminded her girlfriend smiling. “Too much work going on around here, at least dinner is a break.”
Angela sighed shaking her head, “At least Athena makes sure we don't all lose track of time and forget to eat.”
Mei sat down with a soft sigh, “Done that a few times.”
Lena nodded, “Tinkering with jet parts can really eat away at your day.”
Genji shook his head as he set his helmet down, “Lab Coats.”
“Oh like you've never worked through a meal?” Lena challenged mostly teasing.
“Purposely avoiding people is not the same as losing track of time,” Genji reminded his friend.
Lena huffed, “You see what I had to deal with?”
Emily patted her girlfriend's shoulder, “The patience of a Saint, it is one of the things I like best about you.”
“Aw,” Lena giggled covering her cheeks turning and sticking out her tongue when Genji laughed at her. “Jealous.”
Genji chuckled before sipping his drink not saying a word. Angela smiled at the antics, “Emily once you are settled in I would like you to drop by so I can give you a quick check up so I have your vitals on file.”
“Oh, of course. We can do that right after lunch if you want?” Emily was fine getting a quick check up and her vitals being put on file. She wanted to help OverWatch and that meant she would get injured sooner or later. Besides she had heard about how sweet Angela was and she was living up to Lena's stories.
“That will be just fine. Paperwork is sadly a necessary evil of the modern world.” Angela sipped her drink, “And thankfully Athena does most of it.”
Emily grinned, militaries did love their paperwork that was for sure, “Can she make coffee too?”
“I'm sure she could if I asked but he sees to my caffeine needs most of the time,” Angela had gotten used to steaming mugs of coffee waiting on her desk when she was done reading a report and needed one or the like. Little things like that meant a lot to the often overwork doctor and she had missed them when he was gone.
“I see...wise choice,” Emily teased with a knowing grin.
Angela nodded with a smile, “I like to think so.”

Emily looked around Lena's room since she had not brought anything with her to decorate her's with it had taken mere minuets to get settled in there. She titled her head at a collection of running horse statues with streaming manes and trials of fine flowing detail. “Jesse gave me those. He said my room needed some character.”
“They are lovely,” Lena had told her many stories of Jesse and how they had adopted each other. It was comforting to know Lena was well loved. Emily had come into Lena's life after so much had happened she sometimes felt she was playing catch up.
Lena smiled fondly as she hugged her giant Pachimari plushie, chin resting on it's pink pointy head. “We all have little things like that.”
Emily turned arching a brow at the stuffed toy Lena was hugging, “Genji?”
“We decided it looked cuter in my room,” Lena answered with a cheeky grin.
Noting a few dark stains on a leaf? Tentacle? She frowned slightly, “Did you now?”
Lena squeezed it, “Yeah. He won it at an arcade after a mission and I thought it was cute. After I borrowed it a few times he asked me why I kept taking it and I said it was super huggable like him.”
Emily chuckled at that, body armor did not equal huggable to most people, “Oh dear.”
“He just stood there for a moment before shaking his head chuckling and told me to just keep it. I asked him if he was sure and he just shrugged and said it did look cuter in my room and so it has remained.” Lena had also wanted something of Genji just in case and she always assumed he knew it even then. She had gotten many gifts from her boys since then and she knew they had gifts from her in their rooms as well.
“Has he always been good about taking advice form a woman or does that only start once he likes her?” Emily was curious even if she was mostly joking.
Lena tilted her head, index finger tapping off her chin a few times as she hummed in thought. “I'd say the later. To be fair I didn't really get to see him outside of training until after he joined OverWatch.”
Emily nodded, “Well BlackWatch was it's own thing. Thankfully your boys did not suffer for their leader's crimes.”
Lena sighed hugging her plushie, “Was really worried for a little while there. Jesse they could just throw in prison somewhere and Genji isn't even legally alive so who knows what they might have done to him.”
Sitting down Emily hugged Lena's shoulders, “As if you and the others would have let anything so unjust happen to them.” Lena sniffed before snuggling into Emily getting a tighter hug. “And they would do the same for you.”
Lena smiled, “Did I ever tell you about a fight with Doomfist where Genji bodied a car for me?”

“I've never tried to make Sauerbraten before so I hope it turns out all right.” Mei had never really made much traditional German food but since many of her team were German it seem fitting to try. She wanted everyone to get a taste of home from time to time and she did enjoy learning to make dishes from around the world. More so when a friend helped out.
“It smells delicious,” Angela commented still surprised Mei had bothered with a dish you had to marinate the meat for anywhere from 5 to 15 days.
“I made some spatzle to go with it.” Mei had been busy but she was feeling a bit less nervous with Angela's comment.
“My what brought this on?” Finding time to cook when being the head of medicine for OverWatch was not easy but Angela did miss it.
“Well...I want to learn to make more ethnic food and since a lot of the team is German I thought it might be nice to try some German food.” Mei was used to making a lot of food common in America, which the Team was also pretty used to.
Angela smiled touched, “That is very sweet Mei.”
“Ah it smells good in here!” Reinhart grinned at the pair when they turned. “You have outdone yourself Schneeflöckchen!”
Mei smiled as she moved to the oven, “I just hope you all like it.”
“Bah. Everything tastes good when it is made with love.” Reinhart shook his head as he sat down smiling.
“Smells a bit like home,” Trobjorn commented as he entered the dinning room separated from the kitchen by an island.
Brigitte sniffed the air before eyeing what Mei was holding, “Is that apfelstrudel?”
“It is. Lena mentioned Jesse really likes apple pie so...it will be ready by the time everyone is done.” Mei closed the oven door before setting a timer just so nothing would burn if they got lost in talking.
“Well looks like someone was busy.” Jesse tipped his hat at Mei, “You don't need to spoil us Darlin we all already like you.”
“I enjoy cooking and I didn't get to do as much at the arctic base.” Mei assured Jesse not sure how much he was joking.
“Master finds it interesting,” Genji commented appearing next to Angela. “Is today something special I forgot or?”
“No,” Angela assured Genji turning her attention to him. “Mei simply wanted to spoil us more used to German cuisine.”
“As long as I don't have to try and say anything,” Jesse joke hooking his hat on the left prong of the back of his chair.
Reinhart chuckled, “Just enjoy it my friend as we will.”
Angela smiled as she hooked Genji's arm, looking up when Lena came in with Emily. Nodding at Emily in greeting since Lena was grinning at Jesse. Walking up to the pair she smiled when Lena turned, “All settled in then?”
“I didn't pack much so yes,” Emily answered glancing at Genji who was titling his head at a grinning Lena.
“We will fix your room up something proper soon. Now what is this then?” Lena nodded at Angela hugging Genji's arm. It was something the blonde doctor did when Genji was hurting and needing a hug or she herself did but normally she did not walk around holding him unless dragging him along.
Angela glanced at Genji who gave a slight nod, “Well Lena he finally asked and I said yes.”
“You didn't tell me?!” Lena demanded fists on her hips.
“We wanted to wait until dinner so everyone would be here,” Genji answered. “Yo Winston.”
“Well I am not about to cite some silly rule about fraternizing to this room.” Winston grinned at the various laughs. “I am happy for you both,”
Angela bowed her head, “Thank you Winston. I could not ask for a better family to share this news with.”
HEARFEELTHINK
“Bout time you two finally admitted you like each other.” Jesse teased, arms crossed on the balcony.
Genji chuckled, “Stubborn me?”
“Fair enough. So that master of yours know yet?” He knew early because he had been there when Angela found her gift but since the omnic wasn't there Genji might have said something. It was not like he'd go around telling everyone.
Shaking his head Genji folded his own arms on the balcony, “I will let him know we he calls next.”
Jesse frowned at the others tone, “What's with the tone Lizard?” When Genji turned he frowned, “You sound almost like there is someone you wish you could tell you can't”
“There is,” Genji admitted, “Hanzo.”
“Your brother...can't say I saw that coming. Not sure how he'd feel about his dead brother getting a girlfriend.” Jesse had not heard Genji talk about his brother much in a while. It made sense since he seemed to be in a good head space, not dwelling on killing the bastard was not a bad thing.
Sighing Genji turned from the moon and shifting sea, elbows resting on the balcony as he leaned back. “He knows.”
Jesse rolled his eyes, “Right the guy knows you and Angie are official before all of us did. Leave joke like for when I'm drunk then I might actually fall for it.”
Genji chuckled shaking his head, Jesse was a character. “No, that I'm very much alive.”
“And how does he know that?” Jesse knew a few people knew, well maybe not a few but in the grand scheme of things a few sure. Could Talon of told him as some hey join us and finish the job kindda deal?
“I told him,” Genji admitted softly.
“What the Hell did you do that for?” Jesse was at a loss, he had to have missed something.
“Long story short I went home on the tenth adversity of my 'murder' and caught him int the middle of praying for me. He thought I was just another assassin at first but when I had him on his knees, blade at his throat asking for death I reviled who I was. He...he was shocked.” All in all it could have gone much worst. Both brothers had walked away unharmed and with a lot to think about.
Jesse let out a long sigh, “So he knows and you're still in one piece so I'm guessing you both are done with the wanting to kill each other thing?” A yes would be a good thing to hear right about now.
Genji nodded, “Yes Jesse. We have been talking and...”
“He with your master?” Jesse grinned when Genji jerked. “Look ninja shenanigans aside tell the bastard. I'm sure if he is happy you're alive knowing you got the girl will only be good news.”
“You just want to tag along when I go see him so you can see if you can get a rise out of him like you always tried with me.” Genji accused grinning.
Jesse gave Genji a who me look getting a chuckle, “What can I say I'm a curious guy?”
Genji shrugged, “If you wish to risk an arrow who am I to stop you?”
“Exactly,” Jesse teased right back before laughing. “Always wondered what would happen in a re-match.”
“You're so cute when you worry too much about me,” Genji smirked, it felt good to banter with Jesse again.
Jesse snorted, “Partner I am always cute.”
“Eeh?” Genji mocked before flicking the brim of Jesse's precious hat getting a cry as the cowboy moved to catch it. Chuckling Genji held up his hand and teasingly waved over his shoulder as he walked away.

Angela smiled when strong arms closed around her waist, “I was thinking?”
“Am I going to like this conversation?” Genji teased resting his chin on a smooth shoulder.
“Remember before the Swiss base fell I wanted to design a set of armor that was easier to remove?” It felt like another life but Angela was still wondering how things would be different now if it had never happened.
Genji hummed, “If I remember clearly I told you not to waste your time.”
“You did,” Angela confirmed, it was not the first time Genji had dismissed quality of life upgrades because he saw no point in them. He was better now and she would not allow him to get away with such foolishness, not that she often did then. “However since that was years ago I choose to ignore you.”
“You often did,” Genji reminded her gently before kissing her shoulder. “You didn't get a new set of gear made for me already did you?”
“I might have asked our trio for estimates on how long it would take to finish.” She had not expected things to turn out as they had. Genji had returned when called, they had been happy to see each other, he was even wearing clothes again but she had not expected to finally be able to claim him as hers. Angela was not about to not do what she could to ease what pain she still could, and it was more fun with him out of his armor.
Genji chuckled, forehead resting on soft skin, “Tenshi...who am I to say no after you put in so much work?”
“Who indeed?” Angela cooed as she reached to pat his head, his hair soft as kitten fur under her fingers. “There are some other upgrades so you will be able to play around with it once it is done.”
“Done is it? And when will that be hm?” In truth Genji was not against an upgrade suit to go with his new wardrobe.
“A week,” Faster, lighter, stronger, easier to remove, a few features she was keeping secret Angela was rather proud of her work.
“A week,” Genji repeated returning his chin to her shoulder. “That will give me plenty of time to head home and fetch Master for a visit.”
Angela blinked before frowning slightly, Genji had mentioned Zenyatta wanted to do just that. “True...you planning on going alone?”
“Jesse, he's never been to a temple and the others are curious about him.” Genji had told his brothers and sisters stories and Jesse was in most of them.
Angela smiled at that, “I would rather see your second home in warmer weather so I guess I can let you two bond.” Turning in his arms she wrapped her arms around his neck, “How much trouble can you both get into at a temple?”
“Tempting fate,” Genji warned grinning.
“Your Master will keep you both inline and if he fails...well I can be very creative.” Angela purred playing with Genji's hair.
“Not very angelic of you Tenshi,” Genji cooed.
Angela grinned, “If you are so worried about my white wings you'll just have to behave Mr. Dragon Lord.”
“Don't you mean yours?” Genji asked the grinning angel in his arms.
“My Dragon Lord,” Angela corrected preferring the sound of it as she pulled Genji's smile to her own.

Emily shook her head at Lena already curled up with her Pachimari like a child with her teddy. Since her room was just a quest room with her clothes in it for the moment Lena had invited her to use her room until Emily's felt like hers. They had already agreed on going on a shopping date to get her a few things to help that along. Emily was not at all adverse to sharing Lena's space but was touched Lena wanted her to have a touch of home here just for herself.
The others had all been welcoming, a few like Winston she already knew well and Genji was hardly a stranger but most still really were. In a few weeks she was sure they would feel like old friends and being not just included but welcomed into Lena's adopted family was more than she had ever hope when they first started dating. So much had changed since than and she was more than happy with where they were now.
Content on enjoying slowly making this base feel like a second home and strangers known well through stories she slipped into bed. Wrapping Lena in her arms she smiled at a sleepy murmur to go with a warm bed. Closing her eyes she kissed the back of Lena's head before settling in for some peaceful sleep with the woman she loved,
