When you first meet Izuku Midoriya, all you see are smiles and kindness, intelligence and selflessness. Freckles too. That’s all anyone can see, truly. You do not know how long it takes you to see it.
Perhaps you knew all along.
Something that slowly- slowly but surely- makes itself known.
There is a darkness lurking- hidden- beneath the surface, waiting to rise… moments away. Ready to snap in a fraction of a second. Hidden behind green eyes.
Between passing smiles. Between turning pages.
A darkness that burns behind him.
He turns to you- all smiles. You smile back.
You can still see it.
