Work Text:
“It’s just us today.” Kakyoin spoke quietly as he watched his Stand materialize in front of him.
Hierophant Green floated over his hospital bed and looked down at him, tilting his head. Kakyoin smiled at the familiar yellow eyes then yawned to himself as he let Hierophant retreat to hide under the bed, the spot that his Stand had taken a liking to while he was healing in the Speedwagon Foundation run hospital. He always let Hierophant out, even if they were one in the same he had always liked the company. Sometimes he made his Stand coil down the hallways when he was expecting visitors.
Kakyoin looked to the window of his room and watched the rain pour from the cloudy grey sky. It pounded against the window in heavy droplets, but the sound wasn’t enough to drown out the many beeping monitors Kakyoin was connected to. As soon as he had wakened from the coma Dio’s punch had put him in, he was greeted by the tearful expression of his parents and the Joestars and Polnareff the next day. They had arrived back safely from Egypt and Kakyoin was instantly taken to the Speedwagon Foundation hospital, Avdol and Iggy’s bodies had been retrieved and cremated. Kakyoin had been told by a crying Polnareff that they buried them beside one another at a cemetery.
Kakyoin winced as he reached to grab a novel from the table beside his bed. The table was covered in the high school homework he had missed, textbooks and novels, and a handheld Game Boy that had been gifted to him by Holly Joestar. Kakyoin set the book on his lap as he reached for his cup of water, the tube in his nose went down to his stomach to feed in but he liked to drink and eat spoonfuls of soft foods. Sometimes he really hated being on a strictly liquid diet, but he had already been in the hospital for two months and he wanted to make his recovery as quick as possible. His organs had been damaged by Dio, but nothing was destroyed. Kakyoin took a small sip of his water and set the cup back down, he sat himself up a little straighter and looked to the ticking clock on the wall. He was an hour late.
“It’s probably because of the rain.” Kakyoin mumbled and looked down to Hierophant when his Stand came out from under the bed. He flipped through his novel until he got to his page and started reading to pass the time. His parents hadn’t been able to visit him all day because they were busy with work after missing so much searching for their son, then rarely leaving the hospital while he was recovering. Joseph and Holly visited him two or three times a week, his parents everyday of course even if it was just one of them. Polnareff had stayed in Japan until he woke up from his coma and after a few visits he flew back to France, but he still called everyday. He had been alone all day.
Kakyoin was reading peacefully, enjoying the sound of the rain on his window until he felt Hierophant Green starting to stir. Kakyoin dismissed it, they had been stuck in the hospital for so long after such a high energy and dangerous trip Hierophant was probably just restless wanting to protect his user. But then Kakyoin felt his Stand rush out from under the bed and stand guard, watching the door closely. Kakyoin was confused until he could feel another Stand user approaching. He was on edge for a second, the hair rising on the back of his neck and body going rigid until he remembered that he was safe. They had defeated Dio. He was back home in Japan safe.
"Jotaro!" Kakyoin felt his body relax. A wide smile broke across his face. Hierophant retreated under the bed again seeing there was no threat.
Jotaro stood in the doorway, his school bag and another bag in his hand at his side. Kakyoin set his book aside and when he looked back to his friend his smile dropped and his eyebrows raised. The rain continued to hammer against the window.
"Jotaro you're soaking wet." Kakyoin sat up slowly, frowning feeling the many stitches on his stomach pull against the bandage.
Jotaro huffed in greeting and Kakyoin watched as the rain dripped off his school uniform steadily when he headed to the chair in the corner of the room that he usually sat in when he visited. The small couch under the window was usually where his parents sat together or slept. Kakyoin adjusted the IV in his hand and hissed feeling it tug. Jotaro set his bags down and turned hearing him.
"Are you alright?" His voice was quiet, calming.
Kakyoin nodded and flexed his hand slowly. "It just hurts from time to time." He shook his head and looked up at his friend. "Jotaro you're soaking wet." He repeated after getting a closer look at his friend seeing that even his shirt was soaked through. "Take off your coat, you're going to catch a cold!"
Jotaro smiled at the concern. Kakyoin cared so deeply for him and after only knowing each other for such a short time.
"There's towels and blankets in there." Kakyoin pointed to the closet and Hierophant was quick to hurry out from under the bed and retrieve a folded clean towel. The Stand brought it over and Jotario gave a small nod in thanks when it was handed to him. Kakyoin was about to open his mouth to tell him to get out of his uniform but Jotaro put a hand on his shoulder.
Jotaro bend down slowly and Kakyoin flushed red feeling him place a kiss to his cheek. And another. An effect way to cease his worrying. Then Jotaro's hand cupped his cheek and he rubbed Kakyoin's cheekbone with his thumb slowly. Kakyoin smiled and held his wrist and kissed his palm. Jotaro smiled and placed his finger under Kakyoin's chin and gently tilted his head up. Kakyoin's eyes fell shut feeling their lips connect in a kiss.
They were dating. It had happened near the end of their trip, they confessed to one another in the Egyptian desert under the moon and stars. Even though it was dark out and their only light source was a small fire, Kakyoin could see the blush on Jotaro's cheeks when they moved to share their first kiss. He couldn't imagine a more perfect moment for his first kiss, or anyone else he wanted to share it with. Their relationship was mainly kept a secret during their trip, never wanting to draw the attention away from the main reason of their journey. They still had to tell their families about their relationship. Nobody knew except for Polnareff, who had gotten quite the shock when he entered their hotel room without knocking.
"You don't need to worry about me so much." Jotaro whispered against his lips. Kakyoin kept his eyes closed and lips parted feeling them tingle. Any little touch from the other could set his body on fire. Jotaro took the time to admire his partner. He was perfect, so beautiful it made Jotaro's heart flutter. He smiled to himself and kissed the corner of Kakyoin's lips before pulling away. “I missed you too.”
"If you took better care of yourself I wouldn't have to worry." Kakyoin matched his whispery tone.
Jotaro kissed his cheek again and walked back to the chair, he pulled his coat off and Kakyoin watched the water drop off of it. Kakyoin felt his cheeks flush seeing his boyfriend's muscular body move beneath the wet shirt that clung to him as he moved, he took his hat off and dried his hair with the towel. Kakyoin smiled seeing his usual wavy hair wavier when it was towel dried. He sighed to himself and set his soaking wet hat down leaving it to rest on the arm rest.
"I didn’t think you would come today because of the rain." Kakyoin watched him toe his shoes off and saw even his socks were wet. He pulled them off and grabbed his coat and turned to reveal a playful look in his beautiful green eyes.
“I did tell you I would visit you everyday,” Jotaro watched as Kakyoin’s cheeks flushed a gorgeous red and he looked away, “did I not?” He smiled and chuckled quietly. “I’m going to wring these out and let them dry in the shower.” He hummed as he headed to the small on suite washroom that was connected to Kakyoin’s hospital room.
Jotaro came back after a moment and Kakyoin watched as he dug through his school bag. He pulled out a few worksheets and booklets and set them on the pile of others. Kakyoin smiled, as least his school work wasn’t wet. Jotaro turned to his other bag on the chair and pulled out a few new novels and a small case of cherries. Kakyoin smiled brightly as he placed them on his crowded bed side table.
“I stopped at the library after school and got you some books.” Jotaro spoke softly, keeping the calm atmosphere around them. “I know you can’t eat solid foods so I can crush those for you later.”
“Thank you Jotaro.”
Jotaro nodded and put his hands into his pockets as he walked back to his chair. His bare feet padding against the cool floor. He let out a heavy sigh and slumped into the chair with his eyes closed. A much different display from his usual, dragging the chair over to Kakyoin’s bedside so they could hold hands as they talked or sitting in his seat and doing the school work he needed to catch up on.
Kakyoin’s smile faded slowly as he watched him. Jotaro closed his eyes and leaned his head on his hand. He looked tired. Kakyoin looked down to his hands on his lap then back to Jotaro. “Are you okay? You look tired.”
Jotaro cracked an eye open in question.
Kakyoin shrugged a shoulder. “I’ve noticed it over the last few days, are you sleeping alright?” He asked cautiously. Kakyoin had nightmares of Dio and everything that happened on their journey, he wondered and worried if Jotaro did too. Kakyoin picked at his nails and looked down to his lap again, “You can talk to me if you need to.”
Jotaro watched him. Again, stunned that Kakyoin clearly cared so much for him and wasn’t afraid to show it. He smiled. “There was a test today that I didn’t have time to study for yesterday so I stayed up all night.” Jotaro closed his eyes seeing Kakyoin turn to look at him quickly. “There’s just a lot of work to catch up on. It’s so damn annoying that the teachers won’t believe we missed two months of school to kill a vampire that could stop time.” One side of his lips turned up in a smirk.
Kakyoin couldn’t help but chuckle. “Not the most convincing excuse Jojo.”
Jotaro smiled and a silence fell between them. He crossed one leg over the other and shivered feeling his body react to the chill of the rain that had soaked him. Jotaro closed his eyes and sighed at the uncomfortable chill.
“Do you want a blanket?” Kakyoin asked after watched him for a while. “And a dry shirt?”
Jotaro turned his head away before giving a few small nods. Kakyoin smiled. Heirophant appeared in front of the closet and pulled a blanket out and handed it to Jotaro who nodded again in thanks. Heirophant retreated back under the bed. Jotaro took the large shirt and tugged his soaked one off and put it on then he wrapped the blanket around his shoulders and shivered from the warmth. Kakyoin felt his heart flutter at the display, they were still learning about one another and any new side that Jotaro showed of himself Kakyoin cherished. He was quiet and could seem careless, but he loved his friends and family deeply but just rarely showed it. And when he did show those he loved the affection he had, it was in his own way. He was a young man of a few words but when he had said those words in the desert, Kakyoin knew he meant it.
“Do you mind if I sleep?” Jotaro asked.
Kakyoin shook his head quickly. “Of course not, you need it.”
Jotaro shuffled under the blanket trying to get comfortable. Kakyoin held his hands on his lap and watched the rain continue to pour down against the window steadily. Kakyoin looked back to Jotaro who was quickly dozing off but he frowned and shifted again.
“Jojo,” Kakyoin’s voice was quiet making Jotaro open his eyes and they looked at one another. Kakyoin winced as he shuffled over on his bed slowly, Jotaro sat up quickly seeing the look of discomfort. “come here.”
Jotaro got to his feet without question and was quickly at Kakyoin’s bedside. Kakyoin looked up and him and took his hand seeing worry in his eyes, he squeezed his hand and smiled.
“Lay with me.” Kakyoin rubbed his thumb over Jotaro’s knuckles.
Jotaro blinked and was seemingly at a loss of words for a second. His heart started beating a little faster.
“You’re tired.” Kakyoin continued, “You’ve been so busy lately, sleep for a while with me.”
“I’m fine in the chair.” Jotaro protested. Kakyoin held his hand tighter.
“I can tell it’s not comfortable for you.” Kakyoin watched as Jotaro avoided looking at him.
“I can sleep on the couch-“ Jotaro motioned to the small couch by the window.
Kakyoin raised an eyebrow. “You’ll never fit on there.” He thought to how his mom had to curl up and rest her head on her husbands thighs for a pillow. Kakyoin brought Jotaro’s hand to his lips and he kissed it gently. The motion setting Jotaro’s cheeks on fire. “You don’t have to worry about hurting me.” Kakyoin watched as Jotaro shuffled his bare feet on the cool floor. He struggled to move over as much as he could.
Jotaro whispered his name in concern. “I can’t, it hurts just for you to move-“
“Stop being so stubborn.” Kakyoin’s voice was firm. He pointed to the machine that was connected to the IV in his hand. “Bring that around to the other side of my bed.” Jotaro did as he was told and rolled the machine so it was on the same side of the bed as the machine that was connected to the tube in his nose. Kakyoin patted the now free bedside where their weren’t any wires.
Jotaro was still clearly hesitant. He really wanted to sleep he was so tired, he had nightmares about Dio and his friends dying and his lover recovering slowly in the hospital. But he locked it all away to keep others from worrying about him. He wanted to lay with Kakyoin, he wanted to hold him and laugh with him and kiss him. But Kakyoin had gone on the trip with them and he hadn’t protected him when he faced Dio alone. Jotaro looked away.
Kakyoin tugged on his hand gently to encourage him. “Please.” Kakyoin whispered breathlessly. They stated at one another for a while without a word.
Then Jotaro tugged his hand free and Kakyoin’s heart dropped to his stomach watching him walk back to his chair. Jotaro gathered the thick blanket in his arms and Kakyoin let out a relieved side watching him walk back to his bedside.
“I’m cold.” Jotaro explained seeing Kakyoin looking to the blanket in his arms in question. Kakyoin smiled softly.
Jotaro was chewing the inside of his lip nervously as Kakyoin lifted the thin blanket he was under so Jotaro could join him. Jotaro, as gently as he could muster, lowered himself onto the bed. The hospital bed creaked under their joined weight and Jotaro was tense as he laid down beside Kakyoin. Neither of them moved for a while.
"Are you okay?" Worry laced Jotaro's words.
Kakyoin's heart fluttered hearing the concern in his voice, concern from him. He nodded. "I'm okay." Kakyoin put the thin blanket over him and Jotaro tossed the thick blanket over them both. Jotaro laid on his side and Kakyoin winced as he laid to face him.
"Kakyoin?" Jotaro tensed seeing the discomfort in his face.
“I just can’t lay on my side for long.” Kakyoin whispered. Feeling his ears flush red as Jotaro nodded after a while and found his hand under their blankets. They laced their fingers together and Kakyoin swallowed thickly feeling Jotaro’s cold feet on his through his thick socks. Later when the nurse came to give him his medication he would ask her for a pair of warm socks, then give them to Jotaro.
Jotaro sighed and Kakyoin smiled feeling him relax onto the bed. Kakyoin trailed his hand up Jotaro’s arm and cupped his cheek making him look up, Kakyoin tried his best to lean forward for a kiss but the tube in his nose was nearly stretched to its limit. It was uncomfortable and he frowned. Jotaro noticed and moved to hold his body up with his elbow on the bed and he reached over Kakyoin and rolled the machine closer so there wasn’t so much tension. Kakyoin sighed happily and whispered a thank you.
Jotaro nodded and laid back down. Kakyoin’s hand found his cheek again and he rubbed his cheekbone in slow motions, Jotaro felt his eyelids grow heavy. He blinked and sighed when Kakyoin’s hand trailed up into his hair. Kakyoin noticed his reaction and rubbed his scalp with the pads on his fingers, combing his wet hair slowly. Now that there was so little space between them Kakyoin could clearly see the purple bags under his eyes, his skin paler than usual. He looked exhausted. Jotaro’s eyes slipped shut and wrapped his arm around Kakyoin’s waist, who winced at the weight on his middle.
Kakyoin used his freehand to guide Jotaro’s arm so it was around his chest and the uncomfortable pressure was gone. They both relaxed again after Jotaro whispered an apology. They lay together feelings a warmth start to surround and comfort them as the rain continued to pour against the window.
“Thank you for everything you do.” Kakyoin whispered and kissed his forehead after a long time. “Jotaro.” His green eyes opened hearing his name.
Jotaro turned his face to kiss Kakyoin’s palm. “Anything for you,” Jotaro’s voice was already getting thick with sleep, “Noriaki.” Jotaro looked at the other, taking in the scars on his eyes. They had never been so close before.
Kakyoin’s heart pounded hearing his given name. He smiled widely. Tears suddenly filled his eyes when Jotaro looked at him. The closeness. The heat. The comfort. Jotaro moved closer and kissed one of the scars right beneath his eye, his long eyelashes tickling Kakyoin’s cheekbone when he moved to kiss his cheek. He stayed still for a moment, Kakyoin’s skin prickled feeling the warm exhale of his breathing.
“I love you.” Jotaro whispered quietly.
Kakyoin’s heart skipped a beat and he looked at Jotaro with wide eyes. He stared for a moment, Jotaro's stunning green eyes staring back at him with a calm expression. “Jotaro?” He asked in question. Had he heard that right?
Jotaro smiled and closed his eyes again, his hand on Kakyoin’s cheek. “I love you.” He whispered in a voice that Kakyoin knew was nothing but serious. “I’m in love with you Noriaki.” His voice was quiet and took Kakyoin's breath away. "I love you."
The smile that broke across Kakyoin’s face was blinding hearing his given name. Kakyoin blinked his tears away and nodded quickly. He didn’t need to think before answering. “Me too, I love you too Jotaro.” The emotion made his voice crack to a whisper.
Jotaro smiled and his tired eyes opened feeling Kakyoin brush their noses together. Jotaro sighed softly and held the back of Kakyoin’s head as they kissed. His fingers playing with red hair gently, his thumb stroking Kakyoin's jaw. A slow kiss that held all their love for one another.
“I love you.” Kakyoin whispered over and over breathlessly, gently kissing over Jotaro's features. He smiled hearing Jotaro chuckle softly.
“Love you too.” Jotaro hummed and paced a kiss to the corner of his lips.
Kakyoin kissed his cheek and pressed their foreheads together. He combed his fingers through Jotaro's hair and whispered sweet nothings to him as he fell into a deep sleep. His features relaxed the longer he was asleep and Kakyoin thanked his lucky stars for meeting Jotaro. Kakyoin kissed his cheekbone and felt his heart flutter when Jotaro’s arm tightened around him, tugging them closer so their bodies were flush together and he could feel his warmth. Jotaro looked carefree when he was asleep, like there was nothing in the world that could bother him. His mouth fell open a little and his eyelashes fluttered from time to time. Kakyoin wrapped their legs together and sighed happily as he watched him.
“I love you Jojo.” Kakyoin whispered and took one last look at his boyfriend’s features. How had he gotten so lucky? Jotaro was so handsome just looking at him made Kakyoin blush, but the even better thing about him was how big his heart was. Jotaro shifted in his sleep and Kakyoin chuckled quietly as Jotaro nuzzled into his hand that was still combing through his hair. Kakyoin kissed his forehead again and let his lips linger as he sighed deeply. A smile on his lips when he pulled away.
The sound of the pouring rain, the warmth and quiet breathing of Jotaro was enough to comfort Kakyoin after a long day of being alone. Kakyoin combed his fingers through Jotaro’s hair and whispered affectionate words as he watched the rain trail down his window. It was all more than enough to let the smile on his lips stay for hours.
.
Joseph couldn't contain the grin that tugged at the corners of his lips. He shook his head with a chuckle and let out a relieved sigh. He wrapped an arm around his daughter's shoulders and tugged her against him in a side hug as she covered her mouth and tears spilled from her eyes.
"Papa," Holly whispered as she smiled up at her father, "papa look at them!" She looked back through the doorway into Kakyoin's hospital room.
The father and daughter pair had gone to the hospital to visit Kakyoin for a while like they usually did and pick Jotaro up instead of having him bus home in the pouring rain, the weather forecast had said that it was too rain all evening and into the night. The Joestar's were about to loudly announce their arrival at Kakyoin's room but Holly had gasped loudly and stopped in her tracks just near the doorway. Joseph had tensed watching her drop the flowers she had brought and was ready to defend his daughter, but was surprised at the sight.
Kakyoin with his back to the door, was combing his fingers through Jotaro's hair as they laid together facing on another, both almost too large for the hospital bed they were sharing. Holly gasped to herself when she watched Kakyoin place a kiss on her son's forehead as he slept.
"My Jotaro is in love." She wiped her tears and hugged her father who squeezed her back. Holly buried her face in his chest and sighed happily.
Joseph felt his own tears sting his eyes. So overwhelmed at the sight of his grandson and the friend that he was so painfully in love with. He knew how crushed and terrified Jotaro had been when he first saw Kakyoin's injuries from Dio, he remembers well how he and a few doctors nearly had to physically fight Jotaro to hold him off so they could treat Kakyoin. Joseph was beyond relieved when Kakyoin had woken from his coma, both for the young man's sake of course but also for his grandson.
Jotaro shifted in the bed and Kakyoin tugged the blanket higher under his lover's chin to keep him warm. Seemingly unaware of the small audience they now had. The simple, innocent, loving action warmed Holly's heart, nearly making it burst.
"Come Holly," Joseph kissed the top of her head gently and smiled at his daughter, "let's give them some privacy. We'll come back in an hour."
Holly nodded and wiped her nose, taking on last look at her son and memorized the sight. Never had she seen her Jotaro like that with someone. She knew just by looking at them that Kakyoin was the one for her son.
Joseph watched as a bright green tendril formed and approached them. The shadowy figure of Hierophant Green watching the pair from under the bed. Joseph nudged Holly and pointed to it. Holly followed his gaze and she smiled seeing the Stand. Joseph was confused until he watched as Kakyion looked at them over his shoulder, a bright blush painting his cheeks as red as the cherries he loved so much.
Hierophant slowly closed the door and Kakyoin couldn't help the smile that tugged in his lips as Joseph gave them two thumbs up and Holly clapped her hands with a smile from ear to ear.
