An Overhaul of the Education System

Summary:

Waking up in a different body is jarring. Waking up in an anime is even moreso. Fortunately, I have a plan to fix things, and maybe actually teach these kids since no one else will.

Chapter Text

Waking up in a body drastically different from what it was when you went to sleep is an experience nearly indescribable. Not to mention the sudden influx of memories not my own. Kai Chisaki had been an idiot and an unrepentant bigot. Quite an ironic twist for a reincarnation, I suppose.

I did not recognize the area, except through Chisaki’s memories. I was in a bedroom underground, turns out he wanted to keep an eye on Eri, and slept nearby, in an absurdly tidy room, something wholly different from my mess of a room.

Integrating with his memories would likely take time, but for now all I needed was directions, names, and a date. After all, before I began with anything else, I had trash to dispose of, and a girl to save.

As it turns out, having the most overpowered quirk in existence made dealing with people fairly easy. Even better, it let me change the appearance of this body to fit closer to my previous one. Granted, in much better shape, but still. Who wouldn't abuse such a quirk? Apparently, the idiot whose body I took over. Seriously, compared to my body, his was physically pathetic. Sure, I had problems, but his immune system alone was a wreck, not even getting into his musculature or durability. It showed exactly what kind of life he led, I supposed.

Regardless of my internal ranting of how terrible Chisaki was at everything, he did have incredible knowledge of biology, enough to allow my change of shape. Not to mention the sheer medical ability his quirk could unlock. That was also part of the plan. If I happened to use Overhaul to fuse my body with the muscles of the thugs who thought torturing a small child was okay in order to gain greater strength and durability myself, well their sacrifices were at least not in vain.

I had waited to open the door to free Eri specifically so I could appear as someone entirely different from Chisaki. Eri would probably never trust anyone that looked like him, but aside from the hair color, I looked entirely different. At least, enough for Eri to not suspect I was him. Which I wasn’t. Nothing seemed left over of his psyche, though whether that was the nature of whatever caused this, or his own weak mentality being brushed aside by anyone with a modicum of self awareness, I was not sure. If it was not clear, I hated Kai Chisaki with a passion.

The door opened easily enough, but I heard the soft gasp of Eri, already huddled into a corner. A good sign. It meant she was scared, but not resigned. She was not broken. Which meant I was, at the very least, before the raid. That would have been awkward.

“It’s alright. I took care of these idiots, you’re safe.” Of course, she probably wouldn’t believe me, but the casual walk through the base would assuage her fears. Hopefully. I was good at mind games, but mind games are not the same as what I was trying to do. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”

“They’ll come back.” She murmured, barely audible. “They always find me.”

“I dealt with them. Every single one.” Appearing as Overhaul and calling a meeting made that extremely easy, it turned out. Did I feel guilt? Fuck no. Would their screams bother me later? I was unsure. My reaction to such things had always been weird, but I had so much on my mind right now, I was not able to tell. Too many plans, saving Eri, saving the main cast, finding All Might to heal, too many things. Necessary things, but they left little room for what I had already done to set it.

Eri hesitantly came forward, walking next to me as we left, far too casually for a daring escape. It was more of a gentle walk, even as I held her tiny hand in mine. I had a soft spot for kids, and Eri reminded me of my niece in many ways, unfortunate as that was. “Don’t worry. I know someone who can help us.” At least, I hoped I did. The series had little in the way of dates, so I was unsure if I even knew the year relative to canon, but if I was right, Nezu would still be principal, and All For One should be considered dead. An integral part to my future plans.

Eri became more paranoid as we went further up, before she visibly sagged in relief once we exited the doors to the surface. She still had doubts, obviously, but the sheer casual way we left seemed to do exactly as I had hoped for her. “Are you alright to walk? I should have gotten you clothes before we left… Or shoes, at least.” I was surprised she was able to calmly hold my hand, given her fears over her quirk, but the situation probably distracted her, much like it did canonly when Izuku first met her and she clung to him.

“I’m fine.” She murmured, louder than in the room, but far from confident. Whether she actually was, or thought she was a burden, I did not know. Either way… I took the jacket I had been wearing and tied it around my back, in such a way as to carry her. No need to make her walk all the way to UA. She barely made a sound as I did so, though I could not tell if it was from shock or something else. Poor kid.

As it turned out, UA was so publicly acknowledged that even Chisaki knew where it was by heart. Probably for some attack or something, but the memories had not fully integrated yet. At their current rate, it would be a week before that happened, I estimated. Eri had fallen asleep along the way, a soft snoring coming from her place on my back. Most people just saw a father and daughter, despite the vastly different appearances.

When I made it to the gate, I had only one way for Nezu to take me seriously while also proving to not be a threat. It was the reason I had decided to walk instead of ride, so there would be no students left in the school.

Obviously, I used Overhaul to rip apart the gate and transform it into a giant sign that said “HELP”. If that was not taken seriously, I would be out of ideas. Fortunately, the alarm sounded, which meant, at the very least, I would get an audience. Possibly a prison cell, but more importantly, an audience!

It only took about fifteen seconds before Eraserhead came swinging out of a window, and through a tree on his capture scarf. Expected, but annoying. If there was one teacher at UA who I believed truly failed as a teacher, it was this man. His personal philosophy did not help my opinion of him. Still, a teacher was a teacher.

“Why are you here?” He asked, which was weird given I had a giant “help” sign right behind me, staring directly at a camera.

I gestured towards said sign. “I escaped a Yakuza stronghold with my daughter.” Not true, but there was little other way for her to stick around. “Neither of us have any records, and we need someone we can trust. UA is the obvious choice.”

“You came to a school instead of an agency?”

“You never know who is being paid off.” I lied. I knew exactly who. No one. It was not a lie that the Yakuza had become a joke, despite having someone with the most overpowered quirk imaginable in their ranks. Seriously, Chisaki was a fucking idiot.

“Fine. The principal should be here shortly.” He had not blinked his red eyes, an obvious sign of distrust, but a more personal sign of him using his quirk.

True to his word, Nezu came out almost immediately after, flanked by All Might. That was… unexpected, but interesting. “Greetings! You certainly made a mess of things just to meet with us.” His beady eyes shot to the gate.

I shrugged. “I was desperate. While most of my pursuers are dead, I doubt all of them are, civil war or not. I’ll fix the gate, though.” It was as simple as touching the metal sign and willing it to shift into the proper shape and location.

“You chose this place for more than that, I feel.” The observant rodent spoke evenly.

“I need a safe place for my daughter. I also need a job, and have information pertinent to both of you.” I pointedly nodded at All Might, who, despite his smile, was radiating a presence that screamed at me he was not to be fucked with. I needed to learn how to do that.

“Oh? Important enough information to justify this?”

“All For One is alive.”

Judging by All Might’s sharp inhale, and Nezu’s sudden shift in posture, I had their attention. “I know he is operating somewhere out of Kamino Ward, in a bar, but that is it.”

“That is… certainly important enough to warrant this. You offer it so freely, but you asked for a job? Why not use it as leverage?”

Because obviously that would disqualify me from teaching at UA down the road, I thought. “Because I want that monster stopped too. I grew up in captivity of the Yakuza, but I heard enough to know what he can do if he remains as is.” I had explicitly spoken information that would lead Nezu to understanding now only how I got that knowledge, but also my current situation and needs. He was a smart rodent, but having outside knowledge like I did made coming up with a story easy.

“You grew up with the Yakuza, yet have a daughter?”

Of course he would catch that. “Adopted, of course. When I found out what they were doing to her, I had to plan an escape. I was lucky enough there was some kind of infighting at that point. I think someone tried overtaking Chisaki.” Technically true, just extremely out of context.

“I think I can help you, then. All Might, I hope you do not mind if we postpone-”

“Actually, I have business with you as well.” Everyone turned to me, even Aizawa who had been patiently listening, probably so he could ask for clarification later.

“Oh? What might that be?” The presence had faded somewhat, but it seemed almost passive for him to exude… something. Charisma, probably.

“I can heal you.” Another bomb dropped! I was on a roll today.

“How did you know?” Aizawa was on guard again, his eyes showing his quirk active, once more. As if he was a threat next to the man who punched with the force of a directional nuke on his bad day.

“Same way I knew about All For One.” Again, technically the truth, which made it so much easier for me. “I don’t demand anything for that either, just enough material to do it.”

“Are you sure you can heal him? The best medical quirks we have weren’t able to safely.” Nezu pointed out, helpfully.

“I have my younger brother’s quirk. I can deconstruct and then reconstruct any material just by touching it. It would hurt, of course, but… I have done it before.” A touch of a distant tone, unfocused eyes, and the story I had already revealed had them assume I had been forced to by the Yakuza.

“Your brother?”

“Kai Chisaki. Known as Overhaul.” Perhaps if I did not already have two brothers I despised, I would have been irritated to call him my brother, but as it was, I had no problems with the idea.

“Well, it seems we have a lot of work to do. You mentioned a job?”

“I would like to teach.”

Turned out, being off the record for your entire life meant a lot of paperwork to reintegrate with society. It was disturbingly common, too. Probably a product of the hero/villain society, but it made everything so much easier. A basic test had me at a college graduate level in everything but history, which was to be expected. It was surprising to me I had not done better, but it meant I could teach at UA in as little as one year. I just needed a year of teaching in a normal school beforehand, which was even better. Apparently being a teacher had become ridiculously easy, which explained canon Izuku’s teachers at Aldera. Speaking of which…

“Hello class. I’m your teacher for the next year, Kuro Chisaki.” Of course I wasn’t going to use Overhaul’s real name, nor my own. It wasn’t japanese enough to fit in.
