Work Text:

Nakyum got a new phone.

Seungho never thought this day would come.

He would always own these older types of phones or let his newer one drop within a month before he finally had figured out how to work with it. Seungho didn’t even know why he got the fancier types if he didn’t even know how to literally text with them. So he would be stuck with his older, much older phone that couldn’t easily break and texting was the only option.

But alas. Nakyum had gotten a raise at his work and came home, yelling to him that it was time for a new phone.

“Should you even try,” had Seungho shot at him, but Nakyum was set on getting a new phone.

And so it happened.

Seungho rolled his eyes the second he had placed his order, and again when it had finally arrived in the mail.

With eyes the size of flying saucers, Nakyum happily received his new phone from the mailman, nearly closed the door before politely saying thank you with a deep bow, and skipped to the living room.

Seungho followed his every move with his eyes. When Nakyum, with his much too happy face, looked up to face Seungho, the latter quickly averted his eyes and pretended to have been busy with his own phone. However, from the corners of his eyes he made sure not to lose sight of him.

Way too excited with his new phone, Nakyum couldn’t wait and ripped open the plastic wrapper that was sealed around the box and took off the top of the box. Because of the thrill he was feeling, his arms were unsteady.

Nakyum, being the clumsy boy he is, let the top of the box slip out of his hands and tried catching it. With both hands. Forgetting the other half of the box with its content: the brand new phone.

Lightning fast, Seungho swings out his arm, his hand just in time catching the other half of the box. He cursed Nakyum under his breath and set down the box.

“So inept.” He retrieved his hand and his attention was back to his own phone.

Nakyum turned around and asked a short “Hm?” to what Seungho had said, but he got a head shake in return.

“Nearly dropped the top, hehe,” he giggled. Seungho rolled his eyes.

Carefully this time, Nakyum put the top to the side and placed the part with the phone in it straight in front of him. His eyes started glowing as he looked at the phone. He delicately took the phone into his hands and meticulously removed the wrapping.

The sound of the peeling was so satisfying to Nakyum he had to giggle, and Seungho, of course, didn’t miss that.

It was a sweet sound he didn’t want to miss.

While Nakyum was busying himself with his new phone, after figuring out where the button was to turn it on — “Right side,” Seungho had muttered — his face lightened up when he saw the words ‘Hello’ appear on the screen.

How someone could be so satisfied with something so little, would always amaze Seungho.

“Oh boy, where do I even start?” Nakyum whispered. He put the phone back down again and admired it a little more from afar, putting his knuckles to his cheeks and pushing his slightly chubby cheeks upwards, his lips forming a slight pout.

Cute, was the word that ran through Seungho’s mind. Would he ever admit to that? No way.

“What apps do I need to start downloading… What apps even exist?! Oh, I’m just so excited.” Nakyum rambled on and Seungho was just listening in. It were soft sounds, full of excitement, that Seungho couldn’t quite figure out, nevertheless it was an overall pleasant observation.

The rest of the night, Nakyum was too eager to figure out where his new phone could go and Seungho went to bed alone. Nakyum had fallen asleep on the couch around three a.m.

Seungho was amazed. Nakyum had his new phone for about two weeks now and it hadn’t broken down yet. They’ve gone on a few dates and it was nice -- aside from the fact that Nakyum had grown addicted to his new phone.

And Seungho hated it.

Not that he was ever going to admit that. For obvious reasons.

Because he hated the fact that Nakyum wasn’t busy with his phone like any other normal human being, downloading apps, drawing, playing games, texting friends, etcetera.

Oh, no not at all.

The minute he discovered the quality of pictures he could take with his phone it was over for Suengho. Any attention Seungho had gotten in the past was now all invested in that stupid phone.

He would take selfies everywhere they went, with every object he would come across. He would look at it, either delete or keep it and... then make another one. But then with a filter on top of it.

Or a date where they would go to the park and Nakyum would - the second Seungho had parked the car - run out of the park because he had spotted baby duckies and he just had to capture them on his phone.

Or when they went to this children’s farm type of zoo (Seungho didn’t really understand the concept), and Seungho knew he had made a mistake when he realized what the children’s part was in that.

Small animals were everywhere. That meant Nakyum would be everywhere too. Taking pictures. Of the animals. The baby animals.

Being the good boyfriend he is, he simply followed his smaller significant other around, watching him take pictures and completely forgetting who he came with.

Seungho would only shake his head.

But did he feel annoyed?

...

Did he really?

“Hm…” he thought out loud.

“Something wrong?” Nakyum asked him, a little distracted, yet apparently paying enough attention to his boyfriend that he knew something was up.

That surprised Seungho. However, all he gave Nakyum in return was a “It’s nothing,” to which Nakyum didn’t reply anymore.

What he hadn’t noticed in those couple weeks is that Nakyum would sometimes point his phone at his way taller boyfriend and snap a picture of him whenever he was crouched down on his knees. With or without a filter, Nakyum made sure to get any type of picture (see: at least twenty). Whenever he found him staring away in the distance, away from Nakyum, he would snap his camera. He then hugged his phone to his chest and thought to treasure them forever; hiding them from Seungho for forever too.

However, he could also notice Seungho had had enough of the day and wanted to go home. He could tell by the scrunch in his nose and his eyes that weren’t solely focused on Nakyum anymore -- something he usually would be if they were on a date (new phone or no new phone).

Slowly, he softly reached out to hold Seungho’s hand and held it. “Um, can I hold your hand?”

Seungho wasn’t really the type to hold his hand or be affectionate with him in public at all, but sometimes, sometimes, Nakyum would be able to slip in a moment like this.

“You’re already holding it,” Seungho said, wrapping his fingers around Nakyum’s hand.

Nakyum brought his other hand up to his mouth to suppress a giggle. “You’re right.” He was silent for a bit before squeezing Seungho’s big hand softly. “I like the way your hand fits in mine,” he murmured, leaning into Seungho’s arm a little.

Seungho groaned slightly and Nakyum was scared he said something in public he shouldn’t have--

“Don’t act so cute.”

Oh.

“It’s making everyone stare. Stop it.”

Oh.

“Are you jealous?” After saying that, Nakyum felt instant regret because in response to that sentence, Seungho pulled his hand away from Nakyum’s.

Did he… did he make him angry? Being out and about made Seungho react differently to usual claims Nakyum would make and they could be anything from affectionate to a total ignore stance.

“Hyung?” he tried, and heard Seungho sigh.

Then, Seungho turned around and yanked Nakyum by the hand he had previously been holding, pulling him into a hug.

WIth no thoughts other than simply thinking about Seungho’s broad body finally embracing him, Nakyum melted into the hug. “I love your hugs so much,” he mumbled into Seungho’s jacket. His fingers gently crawled up, on their way to Seungho’s back to complete the hug.

However, Seungho had other thoughts on his mind and wanted to let go of the hug, but that wasn’t going to happen on Nakyum’s watch. His at first delicate hands were now clasping onto Seungho’s jacket, practically begging them to stay close.

“No! Wait! Don’t pull away, not yet.”

While Nakyum was burying his face deep into Seungho’s chest, Seungho pressed his chin into Nakyum’s hair. Nakyum lost track of time while they were standing there, embraced, with Nakyum simply taking in Seungho’s heat. It was getting colder and colder than he had anticipated and wasn’t wearing a scarf.

He looked up to see what Seungho was thinking about, but couldn’t make up much. Seungho had let go and, when Nakyum looked up, connected their foreheads. He sighed loudly this time.

“What?”

A few seconds passed before Seungho finally said, “Nothing.”

A few more seconds of silence passed before Seungho quickly pecked Nakyum on his lips.

Nakyum simply stared at his boyfriend, showing affection out in the open and then feeling shy about it. How unlike him.

“You’re warm. Very warm,” he said, thinking about how warm his lips had felt in comparison to his. “It’s comforting.”

“And you’re not,” Seungho said, his voice stiff. “Let’s go home. You’re freezing and I definitely don’t want you catching a cold.” He stepped away from Nakyum and he let him, but didn’t forget to reach out for Seungho’s hand again as they walked back to the car.

Nakyum leaned into Seungho again and made sure not to forget this moment.

“Thank you,” he whispered, looking up at Seungho.

“Of course,” Seungho said, looking ahead.

Nakyum could see that small spark in his eyes that, yes, he too enjoyed today.

(Sneakily, Nakyum fished his phone out of his pocket and made sure to snap a picture of the two of them, without Seungho noticing. A normal one, with just Seungho’s side profile, but Nakyum would treasure that moment -- a moment where Seungho had a spark in his eyes.)
