Work Text:
Jirou couldn’t believe she’d let Kaminari convince her to do this, she rested her head in her hands as she watched her friend set everything up. He looked back at her and shot her a grin, excitement shining in his eyes.
“You nervous?” Kaminari asked.
Jirou nodded, her stomach doing somersaults.
Kaminari spun around in his chair, placing a hand on her knee, “You’ll do fine, they’re going to love you.” He paused for a second, pinching his eyebrows together the way he did when he was thinking about something. “If you feel like I’m forcing you to do this-”
“You’re not! I mean, I don’t feel that way,” Jirou interrupted.
Kaminari looked her in the eyes and Jirou found it hard to breathe for a second, she blamed it on her nerves. “If you want to stop at any time or if it gets too much, just let me know and I can stop the stream. This is supposed to be something fun and I don’t want you to be miserable the whole time without saying anything about it, okay?”
“Okay, I do think it will be fun though, once I get over myself.”
Kaminari grinned at her and squeezed her leg before letting go and turning back to his computer to finish typing the title of the stream ‘ Chill Shiny Hunting Hangout (w/ special guest)’ . Jirou tried to ignore the warmth his hand left on her thigh.
She sighed and leaned back in her chair as she thought back to how she got herself into this nerve wracking situation.
Jirou stepped out of the bus, making her way to the entrance to her high school as she turned on her phone to check where she had to go for the first period. In all honesty, she should have the room number memorized, but she was always too tired in the morning to remember, so she just opted for checking her schedule every day as she walked in.
Jirou heard someone calling her name and pulled out an earbud, looking around for whoever called her. She saw a mop of yellow hair weaving through the students milling around the buses, spending as much time outside before they had to start their classes.
Kaminari pushed his way through the other students, his hair a mess, as if he had just rolled out of bed, his sweatshirt was on backwards and he had two different pairs of tennis shoes on. Jirou sighed and stifled a grin as her friend jogged over to her, his backpack slung around one shoulder.
“Hey,” he panted as he stopped next to her.
“Hey yourself,” Jirou ruffled his hair, trying to get it to look somewhat normal, “What happened here?”
“My alarm didn’t go off and I had to rush to get ready in time for my parents to drive me here.”
Jirou snickered, that was her Kaminari all right.
They waved to his parents as they drove away and started on their way inside the building, laughing at how Kaminari managed to get both a left shoe and a right one, both different pairs, and put them on the correct feet. That was something only Kaminari could achieve, ‘orderly chaos’ he called it, Jirou just thought it was dumb luck and muscle memory.
They stopped at the bottom of the staircase, Kaminari having to go upstairs and Jirou to the end of the hall.
“So, I had an idea last night before I fell asleep. Since your parents won’t be home until later today, you should come over to my house. We could even do a stream together, you could be my special guest.” Kaminari turned to her, his hands stuffed into his jean pockets.
Jirou nodded, “Yeah sounds good. I’ll just have to let my parents know I won’t be home after school. Not sure if I want to do a stream though, I’ll think about it.”
Kaminari grinned and they both said their goodbyes, and went in their separate directions.
Jirou slowly made her way to her classroom, thinking about what streaming with her friend would entail. Kaminari was a streamer, he was fairly popular, his streams usually got up to about 5,000 viewers normally, sometimes even more. Jirou had to admit, she was a bit nervous about the thought of being there while he streamed, sure she’d been in the chat and watched his streams - he made her a moderator on his channel, she was one of the first ones he gave the permission, right when he started streaming - but that was different. Watching something and actually being part of it are two very different experiences.
What if Jirou offended the viewers, or she did something to get her friend in trouble, she couldn’t forgive herself if she got him banned from streaming. Kaminari loved to stream, he was thinking about becoming a full time streamer and part time youtuber, and Jirou didn’t want to ruin that for him.
But, if she didn’t go to his place she would be home alone and bored, she might be able to go to another one of her friend’s houses, but it just wasn’t the same as Kaminari’s place. Her parents had a gig that night and they wouldn’t get home until around midnight.
Jirou sighed and sat down in her seat, pulling out her notebook and pencil as she put away her earbuds and put her phone on silent mode.
When it finally got to lunch time, Jirou was starving, she had skipped breakfast that morning, not feeling awake enough to eat and settling for a coffee instead. Jirou made her way to where her and Kaminari usually met up for lunch, luckily they both had the same lunch period every other day.
She spotted Kaminari’s familiar yellow mess of hair as he pushed through the students slowly walking in front of him. He grinned when he saw her and sat down next to her, looking at her expectantly. Jirou furrowed her eyebrows, confused why he was looking at her so intently.
“Are we going to stream?” he asked.
Jirou shrugged, she had been too focused on taking notes and thinking about other things to decide whether she wanted to stream or not. “Haven’t decided yet.” she responded.
Kaminari nodded, saying something about how they could talk about it while they ate.
They both got their food and sat down at their usual spot near the window.
“So,” Kaminari started with a mouth full of food, “If we were to stream, what would you want to do. You can choose anything you want.”
Jirou hummed as she thought, “Something relaxing I think, like minecraft or pokemon or something like that.”
“Good idea,” Kaminari nodded and took another bite of his food, “Maybe I could shiny hunt for something and we can just talk to the stream. It’ll just be a chill stream.”
“I like the sound of that, could be less nerve wracking.” Jirou and Kaminari continued to talk about their plans for the stream and what they would do. Throughout the rest of their lunch break Kaminari explained how it would work, calming Jirou down a few times when she started to worry about messing up.
“Ready?” Kaminari asked as he looked over his shoulder at Jirou.
Jirou nodded and scooted her chair closer to her friend. Kaminari clicked his mouse and the five minute countdown for the stream started.
“Anything you need before the timer’s done?” Kaminari asked, plugging in a cable to his 3DS and turning it on.
Jirou glanced at their water bottles on the desk to see if they were filled up. “Nope, I think I’m good,” she said.
Her friend nodded and the two of them watched the viewers trickle into the stream and read the chat as they waited for the timer to go down.
Jirou smiled as she saw one of the regulars greet everyone in the chat. Kaminari eyed her, his finger over the unmute button, getting ready to say hello to everyone and turn the camera on. She nodded, signaling she was ready and he clicked the mouse.
“Hey everybody, what’s going on? Welcome to the stream,” Kaminari smiled and switched away from the ‘stream will start in five minutes’ screen and to the camera, letting the viewers see both him and Jirou.
“This is my friend, Jirou,” he gestured to her, “She’s one of my moderators so some of you might remember her. Anyways, she’ll be here during the stream today and she’s a bit nervous so be nice. So yeah. Say hi,” Kaminari nudged her shoulder.
Jirou smiled and waved, trying to hide how nervous she was, “Hi.”
The chat was flooded with responses like hello , it’s nice to meet you , and other comments like those.
“See, I told you they would love you,” Kaminari grinned and put a hand on her shoulder as Jirou released a breath and smiled back at him, blaming the way her heartbeat sped up on how nervous she had been.
She looked to the side and saw someone asking what they were going to do for the stream. Kaminari must’ve seen the comment at the same time she did, because he smiled, read it out loud and told everyone they would be shiny hunting for the day.
“Oh, I forgot,” Kaminari mumbled as he leaned forward and messed with a few things on his screen.
Jirou tapped his arm with the back of her hand, “Someone asked what we’ll be shiny hunting for.”
Her friend sat back in his chair as he switched the stream to show the camera and the gameplay of the 3DS, “Oh yeah, I was meaning to ask you that. You get to choose which pokemon we go for.” Kaminari grinned at her.
“Can we do Noibat then, since Noivern is my favorite Pokemon?” she asked as she got more comfortable in her seat.
“Sure, that’s what I guessed you would pick,” Kaminari chuckled.
The two teens spent a while talking to the chat and answering questions as they started farming for the shiny. Jirou felt herself relaxing the more time went on and was able to be more herself, her walls coming down as she interacted with the community her friend had built. She was amazed by how kind and interactive they were, though it did make sense since they watched Kaminari, and he was literally the sweetest and most thoughtful person she knew, so it would only be fitting that his audience was as well.
They had been switching the device between them so the other could take a break and so the other person might get lucky on their first encounter and get the shiny. Jirou found it funny how Kaminari thought that switching people would change the luck somehow and trick the game into giving them the shiny sooner. She went along with it just because she found it cute how anticipated her friend would get when she encountered the Pokemon for the first time after being handed the console.
After around an hour or two of farming, Jirou was laughing at a comment someone made when Kaminari suddenly jumped up and raised his hands in the air, loudly exclaiming his excitement.
Jirou looked down at the device in her hands and grinned, seeing that they had finally gotten the shiny Noibat.
“Finally!” she exclaimed as she set down the device.
Kaminari sat back down next to her, panting slightly after jumping around, “Catch it,” he started, “since you were the one who found it.”
After discussing which pokeball she should use with the viewers, because aesthetics matter, she caught the Noibat.
“Yes! Can we get a pogchamp in the chat guys, we got one and it’s in a cool-ass pokeball!” Kaminari exclaimed.
Jirou snickered as she saw the chat flooded with the emoji, “Should we name it?” she asked.
“Yeah, I normally name all the shinies I find. What gender was it? Did anyone see?” Kaminari and her turned to the chat.
After the chat then turned to chaos with people trying to remember what gender it was, Kaminari sighed and pulled up a website and started typing.
“Okay everyone, I made a poll since no one here can agree on anything, so just vote for what you remember and we’ll go with whichever one is more.”
Jirou watched the percentages of both columns go up as the shiny Noibat still waited for a name. “Wait, doesn’t it say the gender while you’re naming it?” She realized and tapped the give a nickname button and facepalmed when she was met with a sprite of the Pokemon and the male gender sign in the bottom right of the picture.
Kaminari laughed, “We’re so dumb, how come no one in the chat said anything?!”
The viewers then proceeded to say how they all had brains the size of peas and totally forgot that was a feature in the game. Jirou shook her head, laughing at how amusing the situation was.
Her and Kaminari then dissolved into another fit of laughter when they saw that the poll results were exactly 50-50. Jirou wiped her tears away and handed the device to her friend, saying how the chat wasn’t very helpful at all. She was glad she had done this, she hadn’t laughed this hard in a long time, much less talked so much.
After they both calmed themselves down, Jirou asked the chat what they should name the Noibat, since neither of them could think of anything. She started reading names out to Kaminari when he gasped and bent over the device.
Jirou looked at the screen and saw that he was typing her name, not her last name like how he referred to her as, but her first one, Kyouka. She could feel her face burning as she thought about him using her first name, and then she got even more red when she realized the Noibat would then have her name saved to the game, permanently.
Kaminari froze, “Wait, is this okay, since it’s your real name? Did you not want them to know it?” his eyes grew panicked and he went to delete the name.
“No, it’s totally fine, I don’t mind,” Jirou put a hand on his shoulder, her heart feeling warm and fuzzy.
Kaminari sighed, “Okay, I panicked for a second if you didn’t notice,” he grinned at her.
She grinned back, “Yeah, I think we all noticed, it was pretty obvious Chargedolt.” She had started calling him that after he named his Twitch and Youtube channels ‘ Chargebolt ’.
They both realized that the whole freaking out about the gender of the Pokemon had been irrelevant since they chose to ignore it anyways, and Jirou and him started laughing again as Kaminari saved the nickname for the shiny Noibat.
They decided to go for one more shiny before ending the stream, Kaminari chose an Eevee so he could evolve it into Jolteon. He said that he had only found it fitting that he chose to get a shiny of his favorite pokemon since Jirou had done the same.
Jirou found the shiny Eevee as well, and handed her friend the console, since he was looking away and googling something on his phone.
“You got it?!” he exclaimed.
Jirou laughed and nodded, “Thankfully this one didn’t take as long,” she sighed.
“What should we name it?” Kaminari asked and Jirou came up with an idea.
She typed his name into the nickname bar, his first name as well, Denki, and handed it to him, grinning widely.
“Let’s get a pogchamp in the chat guys, the second shiny of the stream!” Kaminari said as someone in the chat pointed out that they had ignored the gender again and made Denki a female. They both fell into another fit of giggles and saved the nickname anyways.
Another person pointed out that Jirou had found both shinies, and someone else agreed and called her Kaminari’s lucky charm. Jirou blushed when Kaminari read it out loud.
He turned to her and looked at her without saying anything for a few seconds, “Yeah, you’re my lucky charm.”
They talked with the chat for a few minutes as Kaminari placed his new shiny Eevee next to the shiny Noibat in the PC and saved the game.
“We’ll evolve them next stream, but for now I’m starving. How about you?” Kaminari asked Jirou.
“Yeah, ooh, we should order pizza!” she exclaimed, remembering how every time they went to the other’s house they had pizza.
“Yes, here, start calling them, I can’t wait any longer,” Kaminari handed her his phone.
Jirou rolled her eyes as she unlocked it and opened up his contact list, they had saved the pizza place’s number in both of their phones since they ordered from it so often. She wouldn’t be surprised if the pizza place had both of their numbers saved as well.
They both said bye to the stream and Kaminari ended it. Jirou ordered the pizza and got their usual order.
After she hung up, Kaminari turned to her, having just finished closing out of all the apps he had open and turning it off.
“So… how was it?” he asked, bouncing excitedly in his chair.
“It was fun, really fun,” Jirou corrected herself, “We should do it again, I really enjoyed it.”
Kaminari grinned, “I knew you would!” he exclaimed and picked her up and spun her around. He set her down, and they both just hugged for a little bit.
“Thank you, I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time,” Jirou said, her voice muffled by his shirt.
“Of course, I love spending time with you and laughing with you,” Kaminari responded.
They both let go of each other and awkwardly shifted away after looking at the other for too long.
“Was everything okay, did anything make you uncomfortable?”
Jirou shook her head, “It was perfect.”
“Good,” Kaminari grinned at her and she grinned back.
A few weeks later and Kaminari had invited Jirou over to do another stream. They had streamed together only once since the first time when they did some shiny hunting, both of them had gotten super busy with school since it was the week before spring break. They had done another chill stream where they just played Pokemon, evolved the shiny Noibat and Eevee and then hung out with chat for a while.
Now that they both had a full week where they could do whatever they wanted, Kaminari had decided to do a 24 hour charity stream and invited Jirou, Kirishima and Mina to be there while he did it. They had been setting everything up and deciding which games they would play when they finally started the stream, greeting everyone and letting them know what the plan was for the day.
“What will you be playing?” Kirishima read someone’s comment, “We’re gonna play lots of games. Mario Party, Smash Bros, Mariokart, stuff like that.”
“We were thinking about playing Biped, it’s this cool co-op puzzle game that’s given scientific proof to ruin friendships,” Kaminari continued as Jirou rolled her eyes at his exaggeration.
“Oh yeah, we were also talking about playing games with the chat if we could, like Jackbox Games or something, we’re still figuring it out, but we can try sometime later,” Jirou remembered they had been so excited to interact with the viewers.
Mina nodded enthusiastically next to her, “We’ve been talking about it all day.”
A while later, after they had played a lot of games that made them hate each other, Mario Party almost ended in a full blown argument, thankfully Jirou was able to calm everyone down in time, but it was pretty funny. Kirishima and Mina had gotten fed up with how many times Kaminari and Jirou had beaten them on the team game modes, which escalated but thankfully ended with everyone laughing their asses off.
Kaminari was ordering food while Jirou and the others were picking the next game with the chat. They had figured out how to play some games with the viewers, so they did that for a while before they decided to turn it off and take a break from gaming and eat some much needed food.
“The food should be around 45 minutes,” Kaminari said as he came back into the room, closing the door behind him.
Jirou nodded and held out her hand to get a Kit Kat from him, he had a pack of them clutched in his hands. He handed some to the others as well, Mina giving him a confused look.
“Here, figured we could snack on these while we wait,” Kaminari explained.
“I see. We were just deciding on which game to play next,” Jirou informed him.
Kaminari nodded and fished out a bar of Kit Kats, cupping it in his hand, as Kirishima told him which game they had chosen.
“I would’ve gotten it ready while you were ordering the food but I couldn’t find theI- dude… are you serious?” Jirou stopped herself as soon as she saw what Kaminari was doing. “You eat those like that ?”
Kaminari shrugged, “Yeah, something wrong with it?”
“I can’t believe we’ve been best friends for so long and I had no idea you did this, I would’ve ended the friendship as soon as it started.”
“Oh, come on, you love me too much,” her friend grinned at her, knowing he was right.
“I can’t talk to someone who eats Kit Kats like that.” Jirou sighed and hid her face in her hands as Kaminari laughed.
“Yeah bro, that’s messed up,” Kirishima agreed.
“Only cursed people eat Kit Kats like that,” Mina chimed in, only to eat her’s the exact same way Kaminari did right after she finished speaking.
Jirou stood up and grabbed the game from where they had tossed it on the bed, “I’m debating whether we should still play this or not.”
Her friends laughed and Kirishima grabbed the game from her so he could put it in the console.
“How about a horror game, seems to fit Jirou’s vibe,” Kaminari read from the chat and snickered, “You couldn’t be farther from the truth, she hates anything to do with scary things.”
“I don’t hate it… I just extremely dislike it,” Jirou corrected.
Mina gasped, “Yes! A horror game would be so much fun!”
“Here we go,” Jiou mumbled under her breath.
After getting too fed up with Mina trying to convince her to play, Jirou finally agreed. Kirishima, who had soon jumped onto the idea as well, and Mina both jumped in joy. Jirou heard Kaminari laugh quietly next to her as he looked at them celebrating.
Mina picked out a game and handed the remote to Kirishima, him being the first to volunteer to play. Jirou scooted closer to Kaminari, already getting anxious just from the title screen.
They played for a while, making commentary about how stupid the person they’re playing as is and switching the controller between the group. It had been around an hour straight of them playing Outlast with the lights off, that plus the amount of sheer terror Jirou felt when the doorbell rang, had made her anxiety levels go through the roof. So of course, just as she fully calmed herself down and ate some pizza, that had to be when Mina pointed out that Jirou hadn’t held the controller yet.
“No, I'm fine, you guys can keep using it,” she protested, but to no avail.
Jirou sighed as she was handed the controller and scooted even closer, if that was even possible, to Kaminari. She was basically sitting on his leg at that point, but she was too nervous to notice. She didn’t know how the others did it, whenever Mina or Kirishima jumped they would laugh and act as if they just had a great experience. Kaminari laughed it off when he got scared, and Jirou just jumped and tried to keep from freaking out, which, surprise surprise, didn’t go too well, especially when she had to control the character.
Jirou continued through the game for a bit, slowly getting more and more scared, thankfully Kaminari had noticed and put his arm around her legs, squeezing her when she got jump scared. She wrapped an arm around his and hugged it close to her chest as she held the remote tightly in her hands.
Thankfully, after one chase scene where Jirou almost threw the controller on the ground, Kaminari stepped in and took the controller from her to finish her turn. Jirou shifted her position so she could get more comfortable only to realize that Kaminari’s arm was still wrapped up in hers. Her face went red but she didn’t let go, because she was scared, not because she liked it or anything. After Kaminari made himself comfortable, he started playing again, shifting one shoulder over Jirou’s so she could hide behind him if she wanted.
“Thank you,” she whispered in his ear, thankful that he was so attentive to her emotions.
The rest of the 24 hour stream went by fairly smoothly, if arguing about Uno was considered as smoothly that is. They played a few more games with the viewers and ended up reaching their goal for the charity stream.
After they ended the stream, Kirishima and Mina went back to their places, too tired to stay for much longer. Kaminari invited Jirou to stay over for the rest of the night, since she had no way of getting home other than her parents, who were probably still dead asleep. They had slept over at the other’s house a few times, their parents trusted them enough to let them. Both Kaminari and Jirou’s parents were really close so it was easy to convince them to let them stay at the other’s house.
They both flopped down onto Kaminari’s bed, too tired to get out extra blankets for Kaminari to sleep on his couch, and fell asleep within two minutes.
A few weeks later, and they had done more streams with Jirou there, often playing something with the chat. Kamianri hadn’t invited their other friends to come over since the 24 hour stream, Jirou didn’t know why, it seemed like he’d had fun while they were there. When she asked him, he explained to her that he thought Mina had basically forced her to play the horror game and he thought Jirou didn’t have a good time. If she was being honest, her heart may have beat a little bit faster after he said that. Jirou told him that she did have fun, but she didn’t necessarily like how Mina went about playing the game and Kaminari said he’d talk to her about it.
One day while they were eating their lunch, Kaminari brought up the idea to stream when Jirou was playing with him from her home. Jirou immediately agreed and proposed that they start a Minecraft server with their friends, like the Dream SMP or something like that.
Later that day, Jirou sat at her desk listening to Kaminari give their friends a speech in their newly made Minecraft world.
“So, all that said, let’s go start the best smp ever!” he finished and the others cheered, dropping a few diamonds at his feet they had spawned in just for this skit.
“Okay, now let’s make the real world,” Bakugou’s annoyed voice came from Jirou’s headset.
After everyone was in the world, they all set off in their own directions, their voices fading off into the distance. Kaminari and Momo had figured out how to install the proximity chat mod where you can only hear people if you’re close enough to them, so they had done that and added a few smaller mods as well, just to make the game more realistic.
Jirou got stone tools and was about to go into a cave when she heard something off in the distance.
“Finally, it took me forever to find you,” Kaminari said, his voice much closer than before, “you ran off before I could ask you if you wanted to be a team.”
Jirou laughed, “Sure, didn’t know we were doing teams in this though.”
“Well, neither did I but then I thought ‘hey, why don’t me and Jirou share a base?’ So yeah, and then I went looking for you.”
“Jirou and I,” she corrected him.
“What?”
“You said ‘me and Jirou’. It's supposed to be Jirou and I.”
“Yeah, that’s what I said,” Kaminari said, Jirou could practically hear his cheeky smile.
She sighed and shook her head, which she realized she didn’t need to do since no one could see her, but it was just a force of habit whenever she talked to Kaminari.
“Do you have any tools?” Jirou asked him.
She was met with silence so she took that as a no and sighed again. Jirou had a feeling she’d be sighing and facepalming a lot with Kaminari there.
“I have an apple though,” he dropped an apple in front of him.
“That’s nice,” Jirou sighed deeply, yep, her feeling was correct.
The two friends spent a while going through caves and getting every piece of iron and coal they could find, talking about their plans for their base. Kaminari gave Jirou the task of doing the actual building part, while he offered moral support, since she liked that part of Minecraft the most. Though, she had to admit it would be nice to have some help. Kaminari was stubborn in his ‘no, you build, I collect materials, while offering you the support you need from the sidelines.’ Again, Jirou sighed and rolled her eyes, she should’ve made a counter with how many times she’d done that just that night alone.
After the successful launch of their smp, Jirou asked if they could play more games together while Kaminari streamed. They set up another time where they could play with the rest of the so-called Bakusquad. They had also set up another time to play Among Us with the rest of their friends thanks to Sero suggesting the idea.
Just a few days later, Jirou entered the call with her friends and accepted the invite to the party Kaminari had sent her. The stream was really fun and Jirou had a blast, especially when she got to kill Kaminari, even if she ended up losing points for friendly fire. Bakugou and Mina had made a bunch of comments on how Kaminari and Jirou argued like an old married couple, which made them stop arguing every time, until the other took the chance to shoot the other while they were distracted. All in all, it was pretty fun and Jirou was glad she had done it, she always had fun when she spent time with Kaminari, even if it was through a screen.
A while later, and they had done a bunch more streams together. Kaminari had even helped Jirou set up her own Twitch channel and start streaming herself. His fans were super excited about that, in fact they had been the pushing factor that had made Jirou ask her friend for help. After starting her channel her viewers grew pretty fast, no doubt from the help of Kaminari and his thousands of subscribers.
They had played lots of games together, with some of their other friends as well, though the majority of Jirou ‘s streams were either playing on their Minecraft smp or just playing a game with Kaminari while he streamed as well.
Since it was their summer break, their whole friend group had decided to all take a trip together to Florida and see Universal Studios. It was a lot of people to keep track of, but the more the merrier as Kaminari would say. In total there were eight people, Jirou and Kaminari, Kirishima, Mina, Bakugou, Sero, Momo and Hagakure.
Once they got settled into their hotel and claimed their beds, Jirou and Kaminari both claimed the same one at the same time, resulting in a passionate discussion about who got the bed. Mina had suggested that they both share it and smirked as both of them turned red. After they got their sleeping arrangements settled, Kaminari had let Jirou have the bed with Momo and bunked with Sero, they all slept for the rest of the night.
Kaminari pulled out a camera once they got into Universal, starting up a stream, doing an irl stream had been Mina and Hagakure’s idea after they had made plans to travel together. They went on a bunch of rides and ate great food, all while streaming and talking with the chat the whole time. The camera had been held by everyone at some point, though Jirou had had it the most, Kaminari sticking near her for the majority of the time.
The next few days were basically the same, go to Universal, stream, go back to the hotel and sleep. Which is probably why Kaminari had suggested they all go to an arcade or something one day. Everyone quickly agreed and got ready to go have fun.
As soon as they stepped into the arcade, they all split up into groups or pairs, everyone excited to try something different. Kaminari gave the camera to Mina before she ran off with the other girls, since Jirou and him had been holding it for the majority of the time they were there and they both wanted a break.
Just like that, Jirou and Kaminari were alone wandering the arcade as they looked for something to play. They stopped at any game that mildly interested them and stuffed any pocket they could find with the tickets they won. They ran into their friends a few times and stuck with them for a while before splitting off again. Once the time on their cards ran out, they had bought timed cards that they could use for whatever they wanted until the time ran out, they texted their friends and told them to get ready to leave soon.
After playing what felt like every game in the whole place, though in reality it was probably only half of the games, Kaminari and Jirou went up to the counter to exchange their tickets for prizes. As Jirou was picking her prizes, mostly just snacks, out of the corner of her eye she saw Kaminari lean forward and whisper something to the employee behind the counter. She shrugged it off and put the whole entire bag of snacks she had gotten into her backpack.
“Wait for me by the exit, I’ll be a bit longer,” Kaminari said to her once he finished speaking to the employee.
As Jirou was waiting by the exit she watched as families played together and young kids excitedly grabbed their tickets and cradled them in their arms. She hid her smile behind her hand when she saw someone trip over their tickets that trailed to the ground and fall flat on their face. Jirou could barely hold back a laugh when she saw someone walk over to him and help him up, only for him to trip over his tickets again.
“Okay, is it weird that I want to laugh at someone getting hurt?” Kaminari asked her as he sidled up next to her.
“Nope, I do too, it’s hilarious. Or maybe it is and we’re both weird,” Jirou added, now snickering along with Kaminari at the guy sprawled out on the ground.
“He looks like he lost the will to live,” Kaminari whispered in her ear.
That broke her, she couldn’t hold back her laughter anymore and from how Kaminari’s face was turning red and he was tearing up, it looked like he was on the verge of breaking as well. The person who had helped the poor guy who fell stand up pointed over in their direction after grabbing the guy’s attention. Thankfully, he didn’t get mad and smiled to himself as he waved to the two laughing teens. Jirou got enough control over herself to wave back at him.
After they both calmed down and wiped the tears from their eyes, they looked at each other for a while, probably for too long but Jirou didn’t necessarily care at the moment, Kaminari’s eyes were shining with joy and she could look into them for the rest of the day.
Kaminari cleared his throat and Jirou lost her train of thought, looking down at the ground embarrassed.
“I… I got something for you,” Kaminari started again after clearing his throat again.
Jirou looked at him, not sure what to say.
Kaminari held out something cupped in his hands, she looked down at it and saw that it was a shiny Noibat.
“Kami…” Jirou trailed off.
“I thought you would like it since it was the first thing you did on my stream and look where we are now.” Kaminari scratched the back of his neck. “The employee was really nice and checked in the back for a stuffed Noibat when I asked her for one. She came out with two, this one and then a normal Noibat. I was originally planning on getting a normal one, but when I saw this I knew I should get it.”
Jirou took the stuffed animal into her hands and stared at it, “Why… why did you choose to use your tickets to get me something? Why not someone else?”
Kaminari shrugged, “Because, you mean a lot to me, you’re my best friend and I don’t know where I would be without you. I wanted to give you something in return for all the support you’ve given me with my streaming. Well, not just with my streaming actually, with really anything I do, you’re always there for me and the first to be ready to support or help me in any way. So, this is my thank you for that.”
“I should be the one saying thank you,” Jirou whispered as she looked up at him.
Kaminari grinned and Jirou gave him a hug, clinging to his neck as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
“You’ve always been there for me as well you know, I’m glad you’re my best friend,” she whispered into his neck and he squeezed her waist in response.
They backed away from each other and Jirou leaned against the wall while they waited for their friends to meet them, a comfortable silence settling over them.
“Hey, where are the other boys?” Momo asked as she stopped in front of Kaminari and Jirou.
Kaminari shrugged, “We’ve been here for a few minutes waiting.”
“Yeah, we know,” Mina said, smiling widely and elbowing Hagakure, who nodded in agreement.
Jirou furrowed her eyebrows, confused why they were acting so weird, even Momo was smiling weirdly.
“What’s up with you guys?” she asked.
“Oh, nothing,” Hagakure said and giggled.
Jirou just raised an eyebrow and shrugged, deciding to let it drop since they wouldn’t say anything about it.
A few months later, Kaminari and Jirou were getting ready to start a stream at Jirou’s place. They were both just hanging out when Kaminari suggested they do a stream, like when they first started streaming together.
When the stream started, they greeted the viewers and asked about what they should do, saying it was an impromptu stream.
“Hey, someone just said we should shiny hunt,” Kaminari tapped Jirou on the arm.
She nodded, “We could do that. Oh, what if we do a shiny race, do you have your DS with you?”
In response Kaminari jumped up, rushed to his bag and grabbed his 3DS out and grabbed Jirou’s as well.
“Which Pokemon?” Jirou asked the chat while he handed her the console.
“Yeah, we could do Magikarp,” Kaminari answered someone in the chat.
Jirou nodded in agreement and plugged in the cables to both her and Kaminari’s devices so the viewers could see both of their screens. The two friends talked with the chat and each other while they farmed the Magikarp.
After around an hour, Jirou was reading the chat when suddenly Kaminari jumped up and pumped his fists in the air.
“I got it! I got it!” he repeated.
Jirou sighed and leaned back, stretching her back, “We both aren’t very lucky today.”
“Well, I’m never lucky with shiny Pokemon unless you’re here. You’re like my lucky charm.” Kaminari sat back down and threw a pokeball at the golden Magikarp.
Jirou felt her face go red, “I’m your lucky charm?”
Kaminari turned to face her, “Yeah, you were the one to find both the shiny Noibat and shiny Eevee, and I’ve been trying to find this stupid shiny Magikarp for so long and then it just happens to show up when you’re here. If that doesn’t scream lucky charm to you, then you’re deaf.”
“Only you could manage to say something sweet and then immediately call me deaf right after,” Jirou scoffed, her blush fading away.
Kaminari grinned at her. Well, there’s her blush again.
They stayed on the stream for a little longer, Jirou trying to get the shiny just a few more times. Eventually, she gave up and Kaminari claimed himself The Shiny Champion and ended the stream.
“That was fun,” Jirou said.
Kaminari nodded and put his console back into his bag, “I knew I would win.”
Jirou smiled and shook her head, “Of course you did, Chargedolt.”
“You still have this?” Kaminari asked in a soft voice from a corner in her room.
Jirou turned around and saw he was holding the shiny Noibat stuffed animal he’d given her. “Of course, why wouldn’t I? You gave it to me after all.”
Kaminari smiled fondly and looked at the ground, scratching his neck, “Do you remember what I said when I gave you this?”
“Yeah, it was only a few months ago.”
“Jirou, I’m trying to be sweet here and you’re kinda fucking it up with your cynicism.”
Jirou chuckled, “Sorry, go ahead.”
Kaminari took a deep breath and stepped a bit closer to her, setting down the stuffed animal on a bookshelf.
“What I said about you being my lucky charm,” another deep breath, “I was being serious. Well, maybe luck isn’t the right word, but, I don’t know how to say this.” Kaminari paused and ran his hand through his hair. “Jirou, you mean so much to me, like, so much that I don’t even know how to show you how much I care about you. You… whenever I’m near you, I’m happier and I feel like I can fully be myself without any walls or having to hide anything that’s... well me. You make me feel something I never feel with anyone else, and it’s taken me a long time to figure out what exactly it is, but I… I want to tell you.”
Jirou stayed frozen, what was he saying?
“Jir… Kyouka, I’m in love with you. I have been for a long time, I don’t know how I possibly couldn’t have fallen in love with you after we became friends. You make everything better. I never told you but I was thinking about quitting streaming, it took too much out of me even though that’s what I want to do when I’m older. But then you came and… you helped me get the motivation to do it again, because every time I stream now it means I get to spend time with you.”
Kaminari paused for a second,”You don’t have to say anything in response to this, I just couldn’t hold it in any longer and pretend I just thought of you as my best friend, which I still do. But… fuck… I fell so hard for you Kyo, and everyday I fall harder. I love you,” Kaminari took a deep breath and ran his hand through his hair. “There, I said it. I think I’m going to go home now.”
He brushed past Jirou, who was still sitting in her chair in shock, and started for the door.
Jirou scoffed, “You’re a jerk.”
Kaminari turned back around, confusion and hurt written on his face.
“What am I supposed to say to that amazing speech. Just a simple oh I feel the same way but you rendered my brain incoherent because of everything you said and I can’t think of anything I could say that would be half as good as what you said .”
“You feel the same way?” Kaminari asked, hope lighting up his eyes.
Jirou smiled and stood up so she was facing him, “I.. I’m in love with you too Chargedolt. You’re funny and sweet and you always know how to help me out of an uncomfortable situation because you’re so attentive to my emotions and how I’m feeling. You can brighten up my day with just your smile alone, and if what I feel when I’m around you, or even when I’m just thinking about you, isn’t love, then I don’t know what it.”
“You… you love me too?” Kaminari asked, staring straight into her eyes.
Jirou nodded, “Yes, I love you Denki, and I have for a long time, it just took me a while to realize I loved you as more than a friend.”
Kaminari grinned and took two long strides so he was right in front of her and engulfed her in the biggest hug she’d ever gotten from him, and that’s saying something. Jirou wrapped her arms around his neck, she could feel how fast his heart was beating and figured hers was beating just as fast.
“Fuck, if I knew it was going to be this easy I wouldn’t have spent so long rehearsing in front of the mirror,” Kaminari breathed after they had been hugging for a while.
Jirou leaned back and looked up at him, “You rehearsed that?! For how long?”
“You don’t want to know,” Kaminari chuckled, “Though it was really just a waste of time since I didn’t even say what I rehearsed, I just started saying the first thing that came to mind when I thought about you.”
Jirou laughed, that totally was her Kaminari. She saw him lean forward a bit and she knew what he was trying to do. Jirou let Kaminari kiss her, smiling into the kiss and kissing him back.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that,” Kaminari whispered against her lips.
Jirou smiled, “I think I have some idea.” And she kissed him again.
A week later they had both posted something on their social medias about the other, letting everyone who follows them know they’re dating. They were about to start a stream together and just chill with the chat and play some games. Though they had done this before, Jirou was nervous, she knew it would be different this time.
“You nervous?” Kaminari asked.
Jirou nodded in response, “Only because things are going to be different now that everyone knows we’re together.”
“I’m nervous about that too, but we’ll get through whatever we have to our love is just that strong.” Kaminari kissed her.
“God you’re so cheesy.”
Kaminari grinned, “But you love it.”
“Sadly, I do,” Jirou sighed and gave him a kiss.
“Ready to start?” Kaminari asked.
Jirou nodded and he started the stream.
