The grass had been tread on, yet a single sound hadn't been made. You focused your gaze on the smooth black shoes that were approaching you- they were long, and turned into a rounded point. If you truly squinted, you could see the modest sized heels that sunk into the wet dirt.
"Jouno." you said simply, looking up as a sudden gust of wind hit the side of your face, you ruffled your nose in distaste at the cold shock.
Your boyfriend smiled at you, closed eyes turned up slightly to indicate joy, abandoning his usual indifferent expression. When you reached your arms out to him, never once lifting yourself off of the bench you had monopolised, he complied, falling into your embrace easily. His head rested on your shoulder, nose buried into your neck.
Weak sunlight peeked out from beyond the canopies of clouds, highlighting your boyfriend's stark white hair as you carded your fingers through it in a comforting motion. Your fingers rubbed the strands of hair together once you reached the end of his hair, then you repeated the motion for as long as it would take for Jouno to calm down.
He chucked breathily against your neck, suddenly recalling something he had found funny. Lifting his head, he brought his lips to your ear and whispered, "Tecchou opened a can of dog food today, dipped a bar of chocolate into it and ate it."
"No! He didn't- please tell me you're joking." you exclaimed, hand halting it's movements to push Jouno off your shoulder and shake him.
He laughed a melodious laugh, and you couldn't help but treasure the sound- the man deserved to have moments of joy between his hectic life.
As he calmed down, he wheezed out a "I'm not kidding," before doubling over, clutching his stomach. You rested your forehead against his, drawing in shaky breaths between laughs as you realised you could vividly picture Tecchou cracking a dog food can open, a completely serious look on his face as he does so.
"So like, how'd he get the dog food chunks to balance on the chocolate? Or did he only use the sauce?" you finally managed to ask, wrapping your arms around Jouno's neck to pull him into a hug.
"Sauce- he ate the chunks after." he replied, his own arms wrapping around your torso and his head reassuming its position on your shoulder.
"He's a menace to society," you decided, tucking your nose into Jouno's hair. You ignored the faint scent of blood, opting to focus on the smell of the apple scented conditioner you had forced him to use.
"That he is," Jouno said as he pulled back. Ethereal- he looked ethereal in the fading sunlight, the pink and yellow hues of the sky dancing across his smiling face. Leaning in, he kissed you chastely on the cheek.
"Is that all I get? Maybe I'll go date the dog food eater instead." You huffed, no real malice in your tone as you bumped your nose against his lightly, relishing in the way his warm nose heated your cold one, even if only for a bit.
Jouno seemed to take your words as a personal challenge- as he leaned in to press a kiss to your lips, his lips moving feverishly against yours before slowing into a more relaxed kiss, his hand at the base of your neck, cradling your head as though it was a decadent jewel worthy of being put in a gallery of fine arts. You smiled against his lips and tightened your arms around his shoulders, squeezing him slightly. Pulling away from the kiss, you rested your forehead against his yet again, then pulled a few bars of chocolate out of your pocket.
Scowling, you grumbled "I was planning to eat this with you, but after that traumatic story you told me, I think I might have to give these to someone else."
The man you loved tilted his head towards you, a ghost of a smile pulling at his lips as he murmured, "you should give them to Tecchou,"
"Enough!" you laughed, throwing the bars to the ground and turning away from Jouno with an exaggerated huff.
Despite your previous dramatics, you didn't make a move to free yourself when Jouno threaded his fingers between yours, holding your hand gently. Despite the teasing, you leaned into him in a show of everlasting trust as he drew circles in the skin of your hand with his thumb. Despite the long hours and constant disappearances, you loved Jouno with all you had, and looked at him as though he had been the very one to hang the stars in the sky.
And as your retreating figures faded into the darkened sky, lit only with the remnant of stars long gone, you thought that perhaps this moment, this fleeting meeting could last forever.
