Work Text:
Bakugou looked around, annoyed by the constant noise of somebody scribbling in a notebook.
Most people were reading and others were pretending to read, and Instead looking at their phone.
Bakugou was eating fruit gummies as his after test occupation, but that's beside the point.
He looked behind him, his suspicion being proven right. "Oi!" Deku jumped surprised by the sudden noise, despite it being a whisper.
"Oh, hello Kacchan." He gave him an awkward smile, before looking down and writing down some more in his notebook.
Bakugou snatched his pencil away from him. "Cut it out!" He whispered.
"Oh. I'll try." He smiled, before pulling another pencil out of thin air.
Bakugou grit his teeth. If he wasn't gonna stop when he took his pencil, then he was gonna have to take it a step further.
'You asked for it."
He snatched the notebook out from underneath his pencil. Deku's eyes went blank, as if he was hiding something.
'Wll you can't hide it from me.' He internally remarked.
He looked at the page Deku had been working on oh so laboriously.
Todoroki?
He rolled his eyes, of course it was Todoroki. They were basically soulmates at this point.
He turned around, a big cocky grin stretching across his face. "You got a crush on Icy-hot?"
"N-No!" He waved his hands around dismissively. "That's not it at all Kacchan! I had never drawn him before so I wanted to try! I have drawings of everyone!" He wore a shaky smile in his face that was less than truthful.
Bakugou examined the notebook. It wasn't anything he'd seen from Deku before, it wasn't his usual one.
"Can-Can you give that back?" Deku reached for it, but Bakugou moved away.
"Nuh-huh, not so fast, idiot." He grinned deviously. Deku kept reaching for it to no avail.
"Please, Kacchan!" Tiny tears brimmed his round eyes.
"Whatcha got in here that's making you act like this, Deku?" He flipped through the pages, to Deku's horror. Heart shapes and cut out stars lined pages, with some pages being covered top to bottom in paragraphs.
"Kacchan, please just-" He struggled to look over Bakugou's shoulder, with him moving around and such.
"Hm? What's this, Deku?" He raised a brow, and smirked, seeing a page with his own name, well his nickname, plastered on the front of the page.
"No, no, no! Please, don't read that!" He covered his eyes, not able to bear watching this.
Bakugou looked down at the page, now genuinely interested in what it said, if Deku reacted in such a way.
'I'm really hoping to be friends with Bakugou again! I miss being with him, eating with him, hugging him. Is that normal? I really hope it's normal. I may be a hopeless romantic, but he really is so attractive when he's not angry. There's something so pretty about his face when he's relaxed, or staring out of the classroom windows with the light shining on him. I hope that he realizes this soon, hehe! When I was younger I had a crush on him, which has faded, but only a bit. It feels a bit shameful admitting something like that. He's hurt me so bad, and I'm not sure how-'
"Please, I'm begging, stop reading that!" Deku destroyed his train of thought and where he was in this big "private" confession.
"So you do stare at me? Tch, knew it!"
"I don't do it that often!" He grabbed the book out of Bakugou's hands, refusing to look him in the eyes.
"Oi! You had a crush on me when we were kids?" He raised his eyebrow. "W-"
Deku squeezed his eyes sit, and covered his ears. "I already know you're gonna make fun of me! Just letting you know, I can't hear much now!"
Bakugou scoffed, taking the moment to snatch the book off of Deku's desk and into his hands.
He flipped back to the exact page, having it memorized.
'-And I'm not sure how I felt, and still do feel this way. Maybe he has an inferiority complex of some sort. Do I intimidate him? I don't see how I could be intimidating. I'm not all that scary.
(Okay, Midoriya get to the sad part!)'
Bakugou noticed these encouraging notes scattered around the notebook. He breathed in, preparing for some stupid 'friendship is magic' sentiment.
'Well, since I probably wont ever say this to his face, and I hope to dear god, he doesn't find this, I'll say it now.
-Know that I've loved you, once upon a time Kacchan. I'm trying not to but it's so hard-'
Bakugou paused seeing a tear stain on the paper. He gulped, queasily. He cautiously continued.
'-So hard. I don't want to love you, but I do. I want to hate you, I actively try to hate you, my friends tell me to hate you, but I can't! I can't get over how on my birthday's, even when you bullied me, you and your mom would come over with cake, even if it rained. I can't get over the way that in middle school, despite not being as close, still practicing and studying for tests together, and sure as hell can't get over the way we practiced kissing with each other.
Did those matter to you as much as they did to me?
No, wait, don't tell, I already know the answer.'
Ring!
Deku rushed out of the classroom, unmistakably ignoring Bakugou.
Bakugou felt his cheek.
Wet.
'Shit!' He wiped his face and picked up his bag, trying to get out of there before Kirishima questioned him.
Out of the corner, he saw red hair, rushing over his way.
'Too late.'
"Bakubro, are you good?!" He wrapped his arm around his neck pulling him to his side. "The girls were whispering about you."
"Tell them to shut their traps, then." Bakugou slyly stuffed the notebook in his bag, then looked back at Kirishima.
"But really, Bakugou, if you got something on your mind or-"
"I'm fine, now I have shit to do, so leave me alone, shitty hair." He pushed him back and out of his way.
"Oh- Alright!" Kirishima waved him off.
Bakugou looked around the halls looking for fluffy green hair and an overly optimistic personality. He didn't bother with being polite, instead pushing past and shoving fellow UA peers.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he spotted a freckled face, having a conversation with Ochako.
"Oi! Deku!" Both Midoriya and Ochako looked up, gulping. Midoriya insistently apologized to her for what was about to happen in the halls.
"Hello, Kacchan-" He backed up, with big, frightened eyes.
"What the hell is this for! Are you mocking me!?" He pulled the notebook out, pointing at the page.
"I'm not Mock-Mocking you-!" He backed up again, this time finding himself cornered.
A group of students huddled, creating a circle around the two.
"Creep!" He spit out.
Tears brimmed his green eyes. "I was only writing my feelings at the time! Do you want me to say-" He choked, tears falling down his cheeks.
"Say what, Deku!?"He matched closer.
"That I hate you! What should I say! How do I appease you? It's impossible!" He grit his teeth, his breath becoming more inconsistent.
"Oi!" He growled moving closer, like a predator to its prey.
"Or, should I say the truth!" He cried out, hoarsely. "That I love you, and I've never stopped! I want to hate you! I really want to, but you make it so easy not to!" He took in hurried breaths, "Kacchan, I've tried everything-I've tried my best but I can't hate you, even when you made me hate myself.." He sighed in relief, like he was holding in a world's worth of secrets and he finally told them to the person he wanted to.
Bakugou looked down at him, feeling his own eyes water.
"Fuck you! I hate you Deku!"
He held his hands over his ears, defiantly. "I know! I know! I know-" He yelled, trying to block out his environment. His eyes squeezed closed.
"Everyone back up!" The grumpy voice of Aizawa, bellowed through the loud halls. He pushed through the student made crowd, making his way to the two culprits.
"Office, now, the two of you."
...
Midoriya and Bakugou waited in the waiting room, awkwardly squeezed next to each other, but avoiding each other.
Bakugou turned around, looking at the anxious Izuku Midoriya.
"Oi!" He whisper yelled. "...Did you mean what you said?"
Midoriya stayed quiet for a second, before turning around to look at Bakugou. He stared at his shoes.
"...Yes..." He quickly turned back around, holding his stomach as if he had a stomach ache.
"De-"
"Hello, students, you can come in now."
Bakugou grumbled, not being able to say his thoughts. At least, not yet
They were seated down, two chairs and a table with tea were ready with them.
Principal Nezu sighed, smoking a cigarette, before quickly pressing it out.
"I would love to help, and sort things out as I usually do, but Aizawa told me I tend to be overzealous when I talk over tea." He smiled through the pain.
Midoriya tried hiding his giggle by putting his hand on his chin, trying to look interested.
Bakugou bit his lip and prayed he didn't let out a snort.
Principal Nezu looked up at them. "I trust you two to keep it civil, in here. Ring the bell if you need anything, perhaps more tea." He skipped out of the room, leaving Midoriya and Bakugou alone.
"I'm sorry, Kacchan." He looked at Bakugou, trying to keep eye contact, but failing. "I really embarrassed you out there, didn't I?" He scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
Bakugou nodded, not knowing what to say next.
"How 'bout we forget this whole thing-" His voices cracked, but he continued, trying to keep it together. "I never said what I said and-"
"Say it, Deku." He growled.
"Say what, haha." He smiled with his eyes closed, laughing at the comment nervously.
"Say what you said in the halls!" He grabbed his shirt in a fist.
Deku gulped, averting his eyes. "I love-I loved you."
His eyes softened, and breathing became heavier. "...What happened to always loving me...huh?"
"I mean-I said that when I was five, Kacchan." He looked him in the eyes, scanning his face.
He held Bakugou's face in his hands, closer than they'd been since middle school.
"Do you want me to love you, Kacchan?" He let tears build in his big, round eyes. Bakugou couldn't help but feel his heart strings tighten. It was like reliving elementary all over again.
"Am I hoping for something that will never happen? Tell me, please. The idea will go away when you confirm to me, that or will never, ever happen."
Soft, gentle lips press Midoriya's, Bakugou's usually hard and rigid demeanor falling apart.
Tear drops run down his face, and he releases the kiss, allowing himself to breath.
Bakugou's hiccup filled cries filled the room, with Midoriya doing his best to calm him down.
"Do...Do you wanna talk about this after school?" Midoriya squeezed one of Bakugou's hands reassuringly.
"Fine," He bit his lip, and harshly wiped off his face. "But I'll only do it,
Under the condition that I get to practice kissing with you everyday till I decide what I want." He smirked.
"Deal." Midoriya smiled back, placing his thumb on Bakugou's cheek and swiping off stray tears.
