Chapter Text
“Okay, this might be a problem...”
Six figures stood around a large, double bed, in the small but nice room.
They had booked an accommodation in an elegant hotel in Djerholm, to take part to one of the main historic event of the century: the coronation of Steffen and Natalia, the new Fjerdan sovereigns, two peaceful and open minded persons, who represented a huge light of hope for Nina and Matthias' dream.
Everything seemed to be fine, until they discovered a little mess happened in the hotel: they had all been assigned to the same room.
Kaz snorted. That wasn't Ketterdam, where he was powerful and had a lot of important acquaintances. That room was the only option they had, for that night, and there was nothing he could do.
“Guys, seriously, I can sleep on the floor,” Matthias insisted. “It's not a problem to me.”
“Unless we find a way to sleep all together on the bed,” Jesper smirked. “But I bet neither Kaz would find a way.”
“Oh, you bet it?” Dirtyhands replied. “I bet the opposite.”
He couldn't tell where that sudden burst of pride came from. Maybe he was just very tired and stressed.
“Now shut up everyone and let me think: I will put all of us on this bed.”
“Kaz...” Inej started. “Don't be so childish, this is not... oh, oh no...”
“Scheming face,” Jesper shook his head. “He's actually using his scheming face to put six people in the same bed.”
“Im afraid,” Wylan echoed.
Kaz narrowed his eyes, rubbing his chin with his gloved index finger. Yes, it could work...
“Okay, now,” he took one of the pillows. “Helvar, you'll lay in the middle of the bed. You're large enough to be a good pillow for at least four people.”
“What?” the Fjerdan said. “This is madness...”
“Let's try,” the criminal interrupted him. “If it doesn't work, we'll change the plan.”
Matthias shook his head, but he obeyed.
“Well, I'm used to be Nina's pillow, so...” he laid on his back, in the middle of the mattress, and opened his arms. “Suit yourselves.”
Nina giggled, joining him first. She kissed her boyfriend's lips, then, she curled at his right side, slightly oblique, her head on his shoulder.
“It seems we won't have fun, tonight, my babink...” she murmured.
“Nina...” he hissed, blushing. “Please... this situation is already... embarrassing...”
“Hush,” Kaz said. “I need silence. Now... Inej, it's your turn, my dear.”
The young captain let a little laugh out, warming his heart, and she curled in the little space that parted Nina and Matthias' bodies. She rested her head on the young man's chest, while Nina hugged her from behind.
Jesper laid opposite to Nina, using Matthias' left shoulder as a pillow, and Wylan imitated Inej, resting his head on the Fjerdan's stomach.
“Now I know how a mama otter feels,” Matthias commented.
“Fine,” Kaz finally said, a satisfied grin on his lips. There was a little space, at the lower extremity of the bed: he placed the pillow next to Inej's bent legs, then, he took a chair and made it face the footboard.
He then laid on his small portion of mattress, his head on the pillow, he curled in a ball like Inej and Wylan and kept his injured leg stretched, his foot rested on the chair.
“See?” he smirked. “I told you I would have put all of us in this bed.”
“We're lucky the room is quite warm,” Jesper said. “But... do you know you're actually very cozy, Helvar?”
“Glad you think so,” the blond giant replied. “Nina never complained.”
Twelve tolls echoed his words.
Kaz, who had just closed his eyes, widened them, a thought suddenly stuck in his head: “Inej! It's midnight! And today... it's your birthday!”
“True!” Nina cried. “Saints, Inej, we risked to forget it!”
The young Suli giggled, gently touching Kaz's back with her feet.
“Don't worry, guys. I admit I actually forgot it too...”
“We will do something to celebrate after the event,” Jesper promised. “My little sister deserves a party.”
“Yes, we will,” Kaz murmured. “Happy Birthday, Inej.”
“Happy Birthday, Inej!” the others said, together.
