Work Text:
Banagher sits awake in his bunk, the hard mattress behind his back being one of the many reasons he isn’t currently enjoying the oblivion of sleep, he tries to get comfortable. Shifting around the bed, but wherever he moves the mattress doesn’t get more comfortable. Closing his eyes is fruitless, just nightmares await him in his mind. Every time he gets any sort of sleep, every single time he sees Gilboa’s death in his mind. God Damn Full Front- no it was his fault. He pulled the damn trigger to kill and it ended up killing someone who had a family, who had loved ones waiting for them.
Banagher feels tears welling in his eyes, blood was on his hands. Audrey would know what to say, she would help him. But she is so far away and he is stuck in this damn desert. He lets out a quiet groan, burying his face into the pillow. He sighs before turning and climbing out of bed, slipping on his shoes. Maybe a walk will help shut up his brain and help tire him enough that the uncomfortable bed won't matter. Walking into the surprisingly quiet corridor, somewhere in the ship there are people hard at work but not in these empty corridors.
Without even realising it, he walks into the mobile suit dock. There stands in all its glory; The Unicorn, the weapon of mass destruction turned discoverer of man’s possibility. Given to him by his father, to inherit something that will change the world as we all know it. He gazes at them, the beast of possibility, a machine that will change the world. That will help Audrey succeed in her quest to change the world. He will be with her every step of the way. Even if he has to continue on this path, it will be worth it to create proper peace and to make her happy.
His mind turning quickly to how many have been killed to get this machine. His hands clenched tightly in fists.
Then suddenly the cockpit of the unicorn opens up. “Huh...what?” He mutters, he didn’t think he was close enough for it to register and open for him. Standing there on the dock staring into the warmly lit cockpit. He can feel something like the unicorn themself is calling to him, asking him to enter the cockpit. The feeling is comfortable and warm not anything like he would think they would feel like that. They are almost what he would imagine a parent holding him would feel like, love and protection.
He steps into the cockpit, sitting in the seat like he has done so many times now. The seat comfortable, pressing his head against the headrest, wanting to feel angry or annoyed but it just melts away. He sighs in relief, feeling the warmth flood his body, the exhaustion ebbing away. He sits back as much as he can in his pilot seat. The Unicorn almost purrs under him, it vibrating through the seat. If anyone was looking, they would see a soft glow coming from the Pyscho-Frame under the armour.
He curls into the pilot seat slightly, it is more comfortable than the bunk waiting for him in the sleeping quarters. The warm caring feeling, leaving a rare smile on his face not many of them appearing as much lately. If it was possible it feels like he was in someone’s arms, being held tightly. His eyes closing, his mind quickly going blank. Sleep coming much quicker than it was in the bunk. He hears the soft voice in his mind as sleep consumes his conscious.
Shh rest now my Knight, Minerva will need you in the coming days. I will protect you
