Work Text:
George sat in the dining hall staring at his plate of eggs in a dazed state. His mind was racing a mile a minute as he thought about how he was going to ask you to Hogsmeade. Of course, the two of you had been there together just as friends but now that you were dating, he was hoping to take you on an official date.
He was nervous, probably even more nervous than when he first asked you out, since he was a bit tipsy at the time. He was afraid that you would realize that you deserve someone better than him now that the two of you were sober. He desperately wanted to keep your attention on him as long as possible even if he didn’t have much to offer.
His thoughts came to an abrupt halt as your lips fell upon his cheek in a quick chaste kiss. He looked over to see you settling into the seat right between him and his twin. He had to do a double-take once he saw the state that you were in. Your shirt was wrinkled, your tie was crooked, your cardigan was tied around your waist sloppily, and you even had a few buttons of your shirt in the wrong spot.
“You alright love?” George asked with amusement and concern gleamed in his eyes. You quickly pulled out worksheets while you answered him. “I forgot that I had a project that was due today. I only finished a little less than half the first page. I wanted to wake up early to finish it but after last night I was too exhausted to do anything.” You began to scribble answers on the packet.
George felt guilty that he had kept you up. He just wanted to spend time with you by running around the castle at night. George began to silently berate himself for holding you back even more than he already had. You had a bright future ahead of yourself while he only had dreams of running a joke shop with his brother. However, you always seemed delighted when he brought up his dream, always stating how successful it would become even if they had to wait a few years before getting a loan from the bank.
As if you had sensed something was wrong with George, you had slipped your unoccupied hand and linked it with his. You always knew how to make him feel better even with the simplest of actions. You opened your mouth and turned your head towards George slightly. He snorted and fed you a bite of his awaiting breakfast.
“Really guys? How can you be so cutesy and lovey-dovey this early!” Ron groaned. After swallowing you answered. “If you only saw us during the night you would beg for us to be this cutesy and pure Ronald.” You turned your head again for another bite while you ignored Ron’s sounds of disgust.
It wasn’t until dinner time did George see you again. You looked just as ruffled as you had earlier that morning. Letting out a yawn, you slumped in your seat and leaned against George. “I think I might drop out or just drop dead if I get one more goddamn assignment!” You buried your face in George's arm and muffled your scream.
George rubbed your back as Fred laughed at your misfortune. “Every day I get closer to throwing myself off the astronomy tower,” you grumbled as you stabbed your fork in a cooked carrot.
“Don’t say that. I know it’s hard, but that’s why I’m here,” George said. You felt butterflies shake violently in the pit of your stomach. You smiled as you maintained eye contact, feeling lucky that you had someone like him in your life.
“Thanks, Georgie.” You leaned in and kissed him after a few beats. The kiss was soft and smooth, your lips melded together perfectly. Of course, the two of you had only been dating for less than two months but the kisses that were shared felt as if they were longer.
“Ew!” A shout of disgust from Ron made the two of you pull away. You rolled your eyes at him while George was threatening to curse him. You felt better knowing that tomorrow you would be able to sleep in and not worry about classes or homework until the following week. Before you could go back to eating your steaming plate of food, there was a tap on your shoulder.
Looking behind you, Roger Davies, chaser and captain of the Ravenclaw Quidditch team, stood behind you. He looked apologetic and you had immediately felt dread fill up in the pit of your stomach.
“We still haven’t finished our potions assignment,” he said. You were required to have made ten potions, any of your choices by the next Monday, which happened to be three days away. The two of you had been busy the entire week and agreed to complete the project on the weekend.
“No. Roger, tell me you’re lying and that I didn’t just dream last night that we completed the assignment! Merlin's Beard, please tell me that you’re joking!” You lightly took hold of the front of his jumper and shook him. He sighed and took hold of your hand and gave it a few pats while he nodded in confirmation.
“I’m sorry, but we have to get it done,” he sighed. Before he left to finish his meal he gave you a time to meet him the following morning. You sat in a daze thinking about how your perfect weekend had immediately turned sour in a matter of seconds.
Fred began to laugh at the state you were in, while George began to tell you words of encouragement. “I’m going to do it. I’m jumping off the astronomy tower,” you said, beginning to get up from your seat. You had barely gotten your bottom off the surface of the bench before both twins grabbed hold of you and pulled you back down.
“No!”

George, being the gentleman that he is, decided to walk you to the classroom you need to go to. He held your hand as you leaned against him. Every few seconds you would yawn and then proceed to rub your eyes.
“I’m so tired Georgie,” you groaned. He lightly chuckled and began to swing your conjoined hands. “I know, love. Sun’s not even up and here we are,” his voice bounced around the empty corridor.
You sighed and brought his hand up to your lips. You brushed your lips against his hand in a gentle kiss. “What did I do to deserve someone like you?” Your voice was still croaky but just as sincere. George stopped mid-step and turned towards you.
George could only see the warmth and the love that you had for him floating in your fatigued eyes. The past few weeks his mind was absolutely plagued with self-deprecating thoughts about how he didn’t “fit” in your life. Moments like these let his mind ease into bliss. The reassurance was more than enough to have him feel like he was floating on cloud nine.
Without warning, he pushed you up against the wall and leaned in setting his lips against your own. He cupped your face and titled his head, deepening the kiss. You allowed your hands to rest on his slim waist after the moment of awe had slipped away. You pulled him closer as he lightly nipped your bottom lip.
Your noses were constantly bumping into each other, your lips were becoming sore from the heat and passion that was pulled into it. As you pulled away to catch your breath for a moment his lips tried chasing after yours.
Your soft laughter made him open his eyes. He began to laugh with you as he rested his head on your shoulder. The volume of your laughter became so loud to the point where the moving paintings began to shush and yell at you to be quiet.
You quickly grabbed his hand and began to sprint down the halls as you continued laughing, paying little mind to how much you had disturbed the once sleeping paintings.
You had managed to finally arrive at the classroom and leaned against the wall to catch your breath. George leaned his hands on his knees while he sucked in as much air as his body had allowed him to. You opened your eyes and looked towards him finding that he was already looking at you. The corners of your lips quirked up and you began to howl with laughter once more.
Once your laughing fit with George had ceased to nothing, he had pulled you into his arms once more. In the heat of the moment, George decided to throw caution to the wind and asked you the question that had tormented his mind for various hours.
“Do you want to go to Hogsmeade with me? Not today, of course, but maybe next Saturday? As a date..” He began to fiddle with your hands as he looked in your eyes for a reply. You bit your lip failing to surpass the smile that broke onto your face.
“Yeah, I’d like that,” you had said after a pregnant pause. A sudden shyness had developed over the two of you. His eyes lit up and before he could say more, Roger opened the door that the two of you were standing by. He looked just as tired as you had before a certain redhead woke up. He looked apologetic but also had a hint of annoyance. You smiled sheepishly and signaled for just one more minute with your finger. He rolled his eyes and ducked back into the classroom, but not without closing it behind him.
“So,” you began. He smiled and mimicked you. “So.” You rolled your eyes and threw your arms around him for one last hug.
“Save me a seat for dinner?” you asked after you separated, your hands trailing from his shoulders down to his hands. “I’ll think about it,” he teased. You gave him a sharp look which caused a giggle to erupt from his throat. Giving him one last kiss, you slowly stepped away from him as you began to open the classroom door.
“See you later Georgie.” Your eyes fluttered at him for one last time. “Later, love.” He promised and watched as you disappeared behind the wooden door. He sighed through his nose and brushed his fingers through his hair. He felt weightless as the weight of his own stress was lifted off of him.
He took one last glance at the closed door before turning around. Unconsciously, he began to brush his lip with the tip of his finger, still feeling the weight of your lips that had once been on his.
