Work Text:
Momo walked into class, waving to Kyoka on her way to her desk. She grabbed one of her notebooks, she needed to figure things out.
She realized she had a crush on her friend, unfortunately, it turned to love and now she was coughing up blue hydrangeas every time they're too close for too long.
Kyoka came up to her and they started chatting, Momo tried to hide her coughs, apparently not well enough. "Hey, are you okay Momo?" She asked, thoughtful as ever. "Yeah... yeah I'm fine, thanks for asking" She didn't seem fully convinced "If you say so" she wouldn’t lie for too long, she couldn't, it was against everything her parents had taught her all her life. She might have tried straying away from those rules with Kyoka's help but lying was something she tried avoiding as much as possible. She felt guilty, but after she got used to lying to her parents about her sexuality it felt less bad.
She was a great actress and used it to her advantage, playing innocent was easy and everyone trusted her even if she wasn’t honest all of the time.
Her parents wouldn't support her, they wanted her to marry a man and continue the Yaoyorozu legacy, she didn't want that, she wasn't even sure she wanted to get married, but if she had to she wouldn’t want it to be a man.
Momo didn't know who to talk to, she couldn't talk to Kyoka for obvious reasons, couldn't talk to Shouto since he didn't know much, he needed her help to get with Izuku and wouldn't provide much advice for her problems, she could ask the dekusquad members but she didn't want to bother them.
As she pondered over her options, Aizawa came in and started class, she allowed herself to not pay attention once in her life, she wasn't used to that, always being scolded by her tutors if she didn’t pay attention or follow their rules.
There weren't many options with what to do, she either confessed or got surgery. She wanted to avoid surgery because she'd probably have to explain to her parents that she fell in love with a woman which would end badly, if she had to she would lie to them and say it was Shouto since they were close friends and he probably wouldn't mind helping her on that. She would probably try confessing and if it didn't work out she'd get surgery, it was the best possible course of action and even though it was an easy conclusion to come to, she still felt slightly proud of herself.
Class went by quickly, and soon enough, there she was, sitting on her room's small desk. She put on some music and started writing.
She wrote about her feelings, projecting onto her character, Willow, a girl who didn't let herself be limited by the rules of the king and queen, her parents. She was brave and spoke her mind, she was everything Momo wasn't.
If she had to be honest with herself, she felt weak. She felt like she couldn't do anything and that she was useless, she knew it wasn't true but no amount of reassurance from her friends would make her insecurities vanish.
She got up from her seat and started playing her music out loud while she did one of the things that made her feel better no matter what happened, dressing up.
She put on a red dress that reached her knees, it had a lot of frills and lace, just how she liked it. Over it she put on a maroon vest with off-white buttons, some off-white knee-high socks and maroon mary janes. To finish off the look, she added earrings that had red crystals dangling from them and a satin red bow keeping her ponytail in place.
Momo looked at herself in the mirror before she sat on her desk and did her makeup, it was mostly natural, with some brown winged eyeliner and some blush.
She twirled, observing the swoosh of her dress and giggled to herself. She felt kind of childish for doing that but she didn't really care since she was having fun, it was one of the few things she did with her parents. Them both being very busy people, they didn't spend much time with her but she remembers when they would help her get dressed into different looks or they bought her more clothes for playing dress up. She was always a fan of more elegant princessy looks, like most girls her age, she dreamed of being a princess, the unfortunate reality was that it wasn't realistic, but she could at least dress like one.
--------------------
It was another girl's night, the girls, one by one entered Momo's room, dressed in their Pj's.
they sat in a circle and waited as she came in with a new flavour of tea as she would do every time. "So, I’ve been kinda stressed recently and one of the things that makes me relax is dressing up people so I was wondering if i could... maybe dress you up?" She asked, slightly insecure. "Of course you can, Momo! That sounds like a lot of fun!" Mina said, the others agreed.
They spent most of the night trying on different outfits from Momo's wardrobe, she didn't have many different styles of clothing so they all were wearing more princessy outfits but it still fit their aesthetics. Kyoka wore a more gothic style outfit, a dark purple dress with black leggings underneath, a black bolero, black platform mary janes, purple fingerless gloves and a black choker.
Toru had a layered pastel blue sleeveless dress, blue and white striped knee high socks, white gloves that reached her elbows and blue shoes.
Mina wore a hot pink halter neck dress with a bow in the back, a black bolero, black socks, pink platform boots and big pom pom earrings.
Tsuyu wore a light green Sun dress with cream accents, short cream socks, green sneakers, frog earrings and a green hair scarf
Ochaco wore an off-shoulder pink dress with small strawberries and an off-white bow on the front, white thights and pink buisness shoes.
By the time they finished dressing up, it was already late so they all left, after getting back into their normal clothes. Momo insisted that they kept the outfits, since she thought they looked better on them than it did her.
--------------------
It was a sunday and Momo spent most of her day asleep, she didn't have any homework left to do, deciding to rest instead of overthinking everything.
Unfortunately, she slept for 4 hours, waking up around half-way through her nap, only to go back to sleep, and now, she felt like she couldn't go back to sleep. She gave up on trying rest again and decided to watch a movie. Around halfway through the movie, she felt her eyes starting to hurt but she didn't want to close her eyes until the movie was finished. It seemed like the movie dragged on and on, whenever it seemed like it would end, there would be around 5 to 10 more minutes of it. After that happening a few times, the movie finally ended. She looked at the time, it was 5:02 A.M., she closed her eyes and quickly fell into a dreamless sleep.
--------------------
Beep beep beep
She woke up to the noise of her alarm clock and turned it off, slightly annoyed. That was new, regardless of how late she went to sleep, she would always feel refreshed. Today, though, she felt like shit. She groaned and tried to convince herself to get up.
She closed her eyes for a bit more and when she realized, she hadn't gotten up, even though in her mind, she was already getting dressed. She finally got up and looked at the time. It was 8:10 A.M. Well fuck. she was probably going to be late if she didn't hurry so she stumbled out of her bed and tried getting dressed as quick as she could, getting ready in 12 minutes.
She had 3 minutes to get to class, screw food, as much as she was hungry she didn't have time to eat, she rushed out of her room and ran to her class, getting there 1 minute before homeroom. She entered the room looking disheveled, something they had never seen of her, they looked at her in surprise but quickly turned away when they saw her slight anger.
It wasn't often that she was angry, but for some odd reason, today everything was pissing her off and the only emotion she could feel was rage and sadness.
She sat at her desk and took a look at herself in her pocket mirror, she quickly fixed up her hair and uniform and felt a hand on her shoulder. She quickly took her arm and pushed the hand off with way more force than necessary. She looked at who's hand she had shoved off and saw Kyoka. "Fuck, sorry for that, I’m just a bit tired and didn't realize it was you" The other girl looked a bit surprised, probably by her cussing, since she had never really cussed in front of her classmates without struggling to do so, Bakugo must really be affecting her. "It's fine, Yaomomo" she quickly accepted Momo's apology and went to her seat before Aizawa started class.
--------------------
It seemed the world hated her, the day got worse and worse. She didn't eat in the morning because she'd be late to class, she got scolded by Aizawa for not paying attention and almost snapped at him and she struggled during sparring, it felt like nothing was going to go right, at that point she hoped that the world would compensate for all the shittyness with something really good happening to her, but in reality she knew it wasn't realistic.
When class ended she went back to her room and texted Kyoka telling her she was coming over. When she got there, she dashed to the piano in the corner.
She sat down and started playing and singing
I can tell it's you by your footsteps in those shoes
Kyoka was surprised to see her friend so stressed but let her sing her worries away.
Someday I’ll find the day to see those marigolds bloom
she forgot her friend was watching her and just played that song, it was one of her favorites. She realized that the other had joined, playing her guitar.
By the time the song ended, she felt much better, almost forgetting her Hanahaki. Almost. She started coughing.
"Holy shit are you okay?" She nodded, not ready yet to tell the truth. "Are you sure? You seem very stressed, I’ve never heard you even cuss without struggling because your parents made you think it was 'un-lady-like'" Of course Kyoka would realize, she still wasn't going to tell her that she had hanahaki but she would say as much as she could.
"I'm mostly fine, I’m just... i don't know..." she started, how could she describe her feelings? She didn't know.
The purple haired girl waited until she was able to come up with something "I feel shitty is the best way to describe. I woke up feeling horrible and it feels like the world hates me for no reason. I woke up late and couldn't get breakfast, i couldn't pay attention and almost snapped when Aizawa scolded me and that isn't like something I’d do and i don’t know what's wrong with me" She felt something wet trickle down her cheek, she didn't even realize she started crying.
"Nothing's wrong with you, Momo, you're just more stressed than usual. I know how you feel, it happens to me a lot, it usually goes away when i go to sleep honestly"
It felt so refreshing to hear that, more tears fell down and Kyoka wiped them away gently with her hand.
--------------------
Come on take me as i am, miss September take me down to wonderland
Momo sang softly the words coming out of her headphones as she wrote another story.
She was thinking about how she was going to confess when she got a call from her parents. She sighed but knew she couldn't ignore them. Putting on a face of happiness at seeing her parents she accepted the call.
"Hey mom!" She greeted, acting like she was happy to hear from them, when in reality she couldn't wait for them to finish the call. They talked about unimportant things, she wished that they could go back to how they were when she was younger. Momo didn't remember much of how they were back then but she remembers them being caring and sweet, now they just care about how she's doing academically or if she has a boyfriend. She knew that she'd need to find someone to get married to before she graduated or she'd be forced to marry someone of their choice.
--------------------
Momo was at Kyoka's room, she was singing and playing her guitar.
I can safely say we're friends and that i love you too, but years ago that wouldn't happen because i didn't get you
Momo loved that song, especially when Kyoka sang it, her sweet voice complementing the sounds of the guitar.
but now i need you to know that i love you, you know it’s true
It was the perfect time to confess, she was nervous but she knew she had to do it now.
You don't need to say it back to me, because i know you do... I do.... I know you do
Kyoka finished singing with a last strum of the guitar and looked at Momo. She didn't know how she would start telling the other but she needed to try "So... can i ask you something?" She asked, anxiety spreading through her body, or maybe it was just the hydrangeas. "You just did, but sure" she said, chuckling. "Well... Are you gay?" She went straight to the point and the other was slightly surprised by her bluntness. "Kinda, I’m bi, why you ask?" That gave her a chance. She was going to tell the other, but then she saw the girl coughing. At that moment she panicked. She started helping the other girl and just decided to tell her. "I love you!" At that, Kyoka stopped coughing.
"I- You love me? I love you too" She said. At that, the flowers taking home on her throat disappeared.
"You do? And here i was worried for nothing" Momo said, giggling. "Worried? I was way more worried than you! I had to confess 'cuz I had hanahaki!" At that she stopped laughing. "You had hanahaki for me? I did too!" Kyoka started laughing, and soon Momo joined.
"So... Girlfriends?" She asked, unsure. "Sure" at that Momo relaxed, she looked at her and took the other's hand, leaning down and kissing her, as the sun set behind them, golden light all around them as if they were in a movie
