Chapter Text
“Would you ever have sex with me?”
Garcia and Morgan are in his home in Virginia, relaxing after three straight weeks of local cases. She stands in front of a wall of full-length mirrors while he sits in an armchair on the opposite side of the room reading a book.
“What?” Morgan asks a little too loudly. He sits his book down on a coffee table and looks up at her incredulously.
She admires herself in the mirror, turning this way and that. Her blonde hair has a few streaks of red in the back and is longer than he has ever seen it. She is wearing a pair of black leggings and an oversized tie-dye hoodie. Not her usual attire but enough to still be her.
“Well?” Garcia continues while running her fingers through her hair.
She looks at him through the mirror and gives him a big smile. It is a question that had been on her mind for a couple of weeks. Her breakup with Kevin did not put her sex life on hold. Over the past four months, Garcia played around with the best and the worst of them, and her new relationship status is making her curious about a lot of things.
“I thought our relationship didn’t require actual sex,” Morgan slowly answers. Her smile fades, and she shrugs a shoulder.
“I know that. But I am not asking you to get naked and meet me in your bedroom in five minutes,” she laughs. “I am only asking if you would if given the chance.”
“Yes… Yes, I would.” Morgan immediately answers, in a serious tone. Garcia smiles and turns her attention back to her hair that she begins styling into a messy bun.
In the silence that followed, Morgan thinks about Garcia’s early days at the BAU when they ended up at the same bar in downtown D.C. He left his table to get more drinks for his friends and overheard comments from a table closer to the bar.
A group of high-society girls singled in on Garcia. According to them, her dress, dark blue with silver accents, and matching glasses did not fit in with the club’s normal crowd. Morgan had to agree with that. The Gallington catered to the high-society types and well-connected professionals. He only managed to get in because one of his friends was a regular patron. But under the club’s lights, Morgan thought Garcia looked like the night sky.
What really made Morgan see a glimpse of his future companion was the way Garcia carried herself. She wasn’t on the phone pretending to read non-existent emails. Nor did she have her eyes glued to her table trying to hide from the rest of the bar. No, she sat straight in her seat and people-watched while she slowly drank her cocktail and waited for the rest of her friends. From his seat at his table, he saw her face lit up like the sun when her friends finally showed up. For the rest of the night, whenever Morgan glanced over, her booth was the life of the bar.
Now looking over at Garcia many years later, Morgan silently reaffirms his answer. He always thought she was beautiful in her own way, but there was something different about her that he still can’t put his finger on.
Would he ever have sex with her? Yes, if only for the experience of being with a friend. He thinks about how it would change their friendship. For the most part, Derek fears he would want something more.
