Chapter 1: The beginning

Chapter Text

Adelaide stared down at her clasped hands, “Mom, Dad. I need to talk to you about something.” Her mother looked at her worriedly as she set down her knitting, her father sitting up in his chair with a gruff frown. “I’m pregnant,” she whispers.

Her father’s frown deepens, “Whose is it?” Her mother tightly grabbed her needles hard enough to turn her knuckles white.

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?” her father asks agrily his voice raising.

“It’s either John or Harry’s.”

“I never knew I raised a slut,” her father spat out.

“Richard!” her mother yelled.

“Am I wrong? She whored around and doesn’t know the father,” he gestured towards her in exasperation.

“Adelaide, go to your room,” her mother said coldly staring at her father. Adelaide nodded tears streaming down her cheeks before she turned towards the stairs and ran to her room. She threw herself onto her bed crying into her pillow as her parents' argument could be heard throughout the house.

Billy knocked on her door frame, staring at her sadly. Adelaide sat up and patted the spot next to her. He walked over and sat down, “Why are they arguing?”

“I’m pregnant,” she says softly.

He nods, “At least I’m not the family disappointment anymore.” Adelaide glared at him and elbowed his stomach playfully. “I kid, I kid,” he said between giggles, “But we both know a baby at your age is ten times better than being gay in our family,” he said softly staring at his hands. Billy had come out last year and Adelaide was pretty sure their parents still haven’t forgiven him for “ruining” the family reputation. “Wasn’t Mom pregnant with you at her age?” Billy asked laying onto her bed.

Adelaide nodded, “That she was. She and Dad had a shotgun wedding when she was six months. She groaned when she realized and her nose twinged in disgust, “They’re going to make me marry whoever the dad is aren’t they?”

Billy’s eyes widened before he nodded, “Probably. How did you even get pregnant?” he asked glancing at her questioningly.

“You know the birds and bees right?” she asked. He nodded warely and she continued, “Well, we were drunk and playing never have I ever. Harry, John, and I were the only ones not to drink when Harry said he had never had a threesome. Everyone else decided that we needed to remedy that and shoved the three of us into a room. We were drunk enough that we thought it was a good idea and we did a three person tango without condoms.”

“Ew,” Billy said, “Harry and John? I’d forgive you if it had been Tobias or Ben, but those two?”

“Oh please I know you had a crush on John a couple years ago,” Adelaide said with an eye roll. Billy started the gag and Adelaide burst out laughing laying back on the bed with him. “We’ll get through this right?” She asked worriedly glancing over to him.

Billy nodded, “Yeah,” he said solemnly. “We’ll get a place far from here and never return to our crazy family.”

Adelaide giggled, “I like that idea. Where will we go?”

“Japan.” he said firmly.

Adelaide raised an eyebrow at him, “Why Japan?”

“The heroes there are cooler and I’d have more access to lava,” Billy said.

Adelaide smiled, “Okay.”
