Movie Night

Summary:

Hizashi is tasked with watching over the 1-A dorms while Shouta is unavailable and All Might is sick. It's an uneventful night, but something is off. It is too quiet considering the number of students that went downstairs for a midnight snack...

Notes:

Heeey don't mind me posting something at midnight
Consider this to be a little maybe countdown with short stories until the release of season five. I guess.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The job of watching over the 1-A kids for the night wasn’t something any teacher looked forward to, but it was a needed job. And with Aizawa busy and All Might sick, that job fell to Hizashi.

And despite the nervousness that came with the resident problem class, the night was pretty calm. Sure he caught the eventual teenager sneaking around for one reason or another, but other than that it was quiet. Too quiet, actually…

“That can never be good…” He cleared his throat, stretched his arms and quickly made his way downstairs to the living room. Nothing here. And in the kitchen, no cups in the sink, meaning all of those ‘going to get some water’ were only excuses. There weren’t any signs of someone getting a midnight snack either; Shouldn’t have fallen for it in the first place, they all had mini fridges in their rooms god dang it. “Ooh-kaaay… Hmm…”

So they weren’t sneaking around to the living room, meaning they were going to someone else’s room, or to another dorm.

Hopefully not the first one. Begging for every deity for it to not be the last one.

Hizashi went back upstairs, listening carefully and searching for a lit up room. Second, third and fourth floors were all clear, but the moment he got to the fifth floor Hizashi saw not one, not two, but four lit up rooms.

Well then. Points for effort on hiding.

Shaking his head, Hizashi went to Todoroki’s room and knocked. From the other side he heard what was presumably Midoriya falling, Iida trying to sush everyone, Uraraka squeaking and a very disappointed croak.

After a solid ten seconds, Todoroki was the one to answer. “I’m asleep.”

“You're horrible at this.”

“M-maybe we can hide-”

“Where?!”

“Shhhhh-”

“I can hear at least five of you, you know?” Various noises that ranged from annoyance to distress to disappointment followed

Finally, after another ten seconds of pure denial, Todoroki opened the door and closed it behind him. But didn’t say anything.

“Well? May I ask what’s going on? And not only here but with Sato, Sero and Yaoyorozu too,” Todoroki stared at him, then looked to the left, then to the right, at the streak of light coming from the rooms. He frowned, realizing their mistake.

Then slowly looked back to Hizashi. “… Movie night.”

“… And? That doesn’t exactly answer my question, you know.”

“It’s a long story.”

“I’ve got time.”

He looked back, then to the sides, and finally gave up. “We all wanted to see a movie. So we got divided in groups to watch it.”

Hizashi nodded. “And all on the fifth floor because?”

“… You are less likely to suspect the students with the better track record, so much that teachers barely come up here, according to Mido-”

“Todoroki!” Midoriya squealed, throwing the door open, still tangled in… An All Might themed blanket. No surprise there. “Uhm… W-well, Mic-sensei, you see- This movie from The Sentinel series came out a while ago, but we’ve been all so caught up with training and tests and more training and then the work studies happened and now there’s a big test on the way and-”

“We all missed the chance to see it in theaters.” Asui said, right before lightly smacking Midoriya in the head to stop the incoming rambling.

“But if one person saw it, there was the chance they would let something slip to the rest-” Uraraka continued. “And we waited so long for it to come out too!”

“So we came up with a solution! A movie night!” Iida popped in, almost hitting Todoroki as he walked forward. “The only problem with that plan is how hard it is to find two hours that match with the schedule of everyone.”

“Except for now.” Todoroki finished, still looking at the streaks of light. Seems like they had this all planned but forgot one single crucial detail.

Iida wilted a little at that. “Except for now.”

“Now being after midnight when everyone should’ve been asleep?” The five of them nodded. “Couldn’t you have just waited for the weekend?” That got a reaction. Yes, they could, but as someone who once stood wide awake until four in the morning to listen to the premiere of a new album from the other side of the globe, Hizashi had no ground to lecture them in patience. He just couldn’t endorse it, as their teacher. “And what was the plan if Eraserhead was the one who caught you?”

At those simple words, he watched them all go as pale as ghosts. Midoriya even more than the rest, sweating in fear.

A little bit too much fear, he should try and talk to Aizawa about the whole ‘strike the fear of god’ bit, see if it eases up a little. “So how long until the movie’s over?”

“Little less than an hour.”

“Well, I won’t bother you more than this then, just don’t do this again, go straight to bed and don’t complain tomorrow. Otherwise,” He closed his eyes and started to walk back. “I didn’t see anything!”

If he looked back, Hizashi would see numerous faces poking from behind the doors with fear written all over being replaced with disbelief, then excitement, and finally relief.

It’s not that they avoided their homeroom teacher’s wrath, impossible the man wouldn’t notice how they would be tired the day after, but he could cover up some of it to help. Though he imagined the punishment could only be lessened, not avoided.

Oh well, learn from mistakes. Maybe next time they would plan a little better, maybe not even get caught at all!

Though, right now, he had to chew out a certain someone for breaking a very important and sacred promise.

“‘Zashi?… What are you calling for at this hour?…”

“The new Sentinel movie came out and you didn’t even bother to tell me. I’m blocking you in every single social media, I’m throwing away you handcrafted bracelets, we are done Nemuri!”

“Wha- It did?! I- What?! Shi- Hold on, I need to get ticket-”

“Too late, it’s no longer on theaters! Don’t even look at me ever again!”

“No Hizashi wait I didn’t know it came out hold on-”
