A ringing phone. That was the sound that woke Amelia H. Watson on one chilled morning, not that she could feel the cold mind you.
Amelia grumbled, feeling blindly around for her phone, not even bothering to open her eyes to see it. It was at times like these that Amelia was truly envious that Ina could sleep through pretty much anything, while years of being on the run had wired Amelia to wake at the sound of a pin drop.
Speaking of, said tako had her face tucked into the crook of the detective's neck, her body sprawled over the large bed the two shared. Her hair was spread all around her, like a purple paint splatter against clean white sheets. The halo above her head spread a soft, golden glow, casting small shadows across the priestess' face. For just a few moments, Amelia zoned everything out just to admire the sight.
With a sigh, she brought the phone to her face, the letters 'Mama Watson' clear on the screen along with an accept or decline button. Amelia quickly swiped over the accept. Considering calls from her family were rare enough to begin with, Amelia would not pass up an opportunity to speak to them.
"Amelia! It's so good to speak to you" The cheery voice of Mama Watson brought a small smile to Amelia's face. She rubbed the remaining sleep from her eyes before replying groggily.
"Mmm, morning Ma.." Her voice was cracked and Amelia just realised how thirsty she was. She turned her full attention away from the phone call after she felt Ina shuffle around, shifting on to her side. The tako now had Amelia in a vice grip, albeit a rather warm and comfortable one. Amelia was suddenly hit with wave of drowsiness as soon as Ina settled down once more.
"Morning? Oh, Ame, did you just wake up? I can call you back later if you need some time to wake up" It was sweet how much Amelia's mum cared about her. A part of her missed waking up to the smell of a warm breakfast and Mama Watson waking her up to make sure she got to school on time. Only after she found her Great Grandfather's pocket watch, or time machine, did her life change so drastically.
"It's fine, ma. I always enjoy talking to you, tired or not" Amelia was certain that her mum was smiling widely on the other side of the phone, she could practically hear it.
They continued to go back and forth for a little while, with Amelia pausing every now and then whenever Ina would move around in her sleep. Amelia had to supress her giggles whenever one of Ina's tentacles would come out of the void to annoy the detective, who was now sitting upright against the headrest.
It was around halfway through the phone call that Amelia realised she hadn't told anyone in her family about her relationship with the priestess, so she had fingers crossed that Ina didn't wake up during her call so she didn't have to explain anything to anyone.
Of course with the Watson's luck, Amelia wishes went ignored. Beside her, Amelia felt Ina pause, then push herself onto her elbows while she woke up. The detective once again temporarily forgot the call that was going on in honour of watching Ina stretch and yawn, giving her a sleepy 'good morning' in her raspy morning voice.
"Amelia... is there someone there with you?" Amelia felt her blood run cold, caught red handed with her girlfriend. She saw Ina's ear flaps perk up in curiosity as the tako leaned against her shoulder, pressing her head against Amelia's.
"Ame, who ya talking to?" Ina nuzzled against the detective, trying to steal as much warmth from the time-traveller as she could.
"Amelia, who is that there with you" Amelia pinched the top of her noise an exhaled. She used the arm that wasn't holding her phone and wrapped it around Ina's shoulders, pulling her closer. The priestess was more than happy to get closer, and happily accepted the cheek kiss that Amelia gave her.
"Uhh.. Ma, this is Ina" Ina humu-ed in response, moving the blankets to better cover both her and Amelia. She wasn't really paying attention to whatever Amelia was saying to her mother, and instead focussed on trying to fall asleep against the detective.
"So, long story short, me and Ina have been dating for around a year" Ina noted on the nervousness in Amelia's voice, which was odd hearing considering scared, fear or nervous and Amelia weren't commonly used in the same sentence.
A long silence followed the delivered news, and Amelia knew that her mum was just trying to process what she had just told her.
"So you've been dating someone for a year?" Her voice was more monotonous than before, which even put Ina on edge.
"Uh... yes?" Amelia sounded like she didn't really want to hear the answer. Ina took Amelia's hand in her own, squeezing it gently. Amelia gave her a small smile and squeezed her hand back.
"Amelia! I'm so happy for you! Oh, my baby is so grown up! I need to meet this Ina as soon as possible. That's it, you're father and I are booking the next flight to come see you two" Amelia started trying to yell over her mother like an embarrassed teenager, which made Ina laugh. All while Mama Watson was still fussing in the background, which caused Amelia's father to walk into the room.
A few minutes of explaining on Mama Watson's side and now Papa Watson had joined in, almost interrogating Amelia on why they hadn't introduced them to Ina yet.
"We'll call you back later, Ame! Your father and I are going to be busy packing and arranging flights! Can't wait to see you and Ina. Bye!" And then she hang up. Amelia just stared at her phone before placing it (read, chucking it carefully) back on to the bedside table.
Ina was about to question what she was doing when Amelia grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her back into the bed.
"Ammeee... I'm hungry" Ina whined, trying to escape her girlfriend's grasp. Amelia chuckled in that gremlin way she did.
"Hi hungry, I'm Amelia" Ina let out a groan of defeat, simply accepting her fate of going back to sleep in the warmth of their shared bedroom.
Now back in each others embrace, both Ina and Amelia had fallen into a quiet silence, simply enjoying each others presence.
"Aren't you glad I got us those blackout curtains now?"
"Shut up".
Ina laughed at Amelia's response, simply hugging Amelia a little more tightly, resting her head on top of Amelia's.
It wouldn't be until Gura slammed the door open wondering why they were still sleeping at 1 in the afternoon that Amelia and Ina realised how hungry they really were.
