“Let’s get married.”
Megumi paused his aimless scrolling to process what he just heard. Yuji had just asked to marry him, in their living room, on a Saturday night, while watching the shittiest movie he had ever seen. He looked down to see Yuji sitting between his legs on the floor of their living room. He had tilted his head up to smile at him. Over time Yuji’s features sharpened, no longer a lanky teenage boy. His jaw was more defined and his shoulders broadened, aided by their physically demanding job. Megumi loved him back in high school, but his heart practically belonged to him now.
“Yeah, sure, let’s get married,” he responded. He leaned down and gave his fiancé a kiss. Yuji kept smiling and laughing into the kiss and Megumi felt himself swoon. He was so utterly in love with him. It was almost disgusting. He felt Yuji pull away and stand up.
“Stay there!” Yuji ran out of the living room to the kitchen.
“What are you doing?” Megumi looked over his shoulder to see Yuji rifling through the spice cabinet.
“I’m getting something- aha!” Yuji apparently found what he needed and ran back over to Megumi on the couch.
He got on one knee and opened a small box. There was a simple silver band that had a braiding design in the middle of it. Megumi felt like his heart was going to burst at this point. Yuji had his big dumb grin on that he couldn’t get enough of. He was proposing to him in his boxers and one of Megumi’s old, old sweaters he insisted he threw out.
“You hid my engagement ring with the seasonings?” he asked as he attempted to not tear up.
“You don’t cook, so it’s not like you’re gonna look in there.”
“I’m gonna hide stuff in the laundry room, then.”
“As long as you marry me, I’m fine with that.”
Megumi leaned over to give him a peck on the lips and Yuji slid the ring onto his finger. It fit perfectly.
Yuji gave him one more kiss before standing up and falling onto Megumi. He sandwiched him on the couch and covered his face in kisses, more akin to a dog than a human. Megumi laughed and tried to push his face away, but still wrapped an arm around his torso to keep him close.
“I love you, Yuji.”
“I love you too.”
