Chapter Text
“I've lost everything. I've lost my home, my job, my powers. I can't lose you too, Alec..” Mangus pleaded.
Magnus Bane, High Warlock of Brooklyn. He never thought he would give his heart away again, only to have it broken just like Camille did so long ago. Boy was he ever wrong. He took a chance on Alexander Gideon Lightwood, and it was the wrong chance apparently. His heart was broken, and he was devastated. Almost as if he was physically breaking in two instead of just metaphorically. As such, he wanted to purge himself of any and all memories of Alec.
Asmodeus makes an appearance and gives his son back his magical powers. He wants to make up for lost time with Magnus, and his son is skeptical for obvious reasons. When your father was a prince of hell, you didn't take anything they said at face value. He wasn't getting a satisfactory answer, so he portal'ed himself away.
Knowing his father as he did, Magnus didn't expect his father to stay away. And as it so happens, he was right. If it was anybody else, it would seem to be a perfect father-son image. A father buying his son a soft pretzel, and chatting together like old friends. From there to taking back his loft from Lorenzo, and answering the door to find Maryse there. Alexander's mother.
The conversation was short lived when he found out that Alec had planned to propose to him. Everything seeming to click into place for Magnus when she referred to him as 'whole' again. Not too mention she asked him exactly 'when' did he get his magic back. Now that Magnus knew that Alec went behind his back and made a deal with Asmodeus, it didn't seem to hurt so much. In fact, you could say it made him elated to think that the shadowhunter love him so much.
After leaving Magnus' loft that night, Alec was in not in the right mind as to go on a patrol. But go on patrol he did, what he needed was a distraction he thought. He would distract himself from the pain in his heart. Let himself take out all his anger, aggression and despair on a few demons that deserved it.
Instead of going back to the institute and waiting until a situation arrived, he took it upon himself to find an advantageous point to wait. He was on the roof of a building about halfway between the institute, and Magnus' loft. Subconsciously, he managed to make it more towards Magnus' loft than the institute. He couldn't stop thinking about him. And in the end, it would be his own downfall. Alec may have been looking out, but his mind was elsewhere.
It didn't take long for a group of drevak demons to overtake him in his preoccupied state. His bow being kicked away by the demons, and it was all he could do to keep his own footing. It was 3-4 of them, nothing that he couldn't usually handle. But /usually/ he wasn't distracted or on his own.
Managing to take down at least 2 out of the 4 demons that attacked him, Alec was struggling with the remaining 2. His stele had been knocked out of his hand, and not being anywhere close to his bow he was just about out of options. He was getting his ass handed to him on a silver platter, and by the time that Jace realized it through their bond it was almost too late.
Alec lain on the rooftop with one of his own arrows stabbed through his chest. Suffering to breathe, all he could do was thinking about Magnus. With the occasional thought of Jace, and his Sister, Izzy. Hoping against hope that through their parabatai bond, Jace would feel his pain and come looking for him.
As it so happens, Jace had been looking for Alec since he started feeling the pain of being attacked. Doubling over in pain at least twice, before he let Izzy know about it. Jace took off when there was nothing but stabbing pain, and he couldn't bare it anymore. He had to look for Alec. It couldn't wait anymore.
Alec lay staring up at the stars, and drifting in and out of consciousness. He didn't think he had any chance of living beyond this. It seemed to be taking forever if at all, Jace even felt anything through their bond. And his vision of a fuzzy male beside him, his first instinct was to call out for his lost love. “..Magnus??” His voice broken, yet hopeful.
Jace gulped. “It's okay, Alec. We'll get you back to the institute and fixed up.” Hands moving over his brother, and doing what he could to try and stop the bleeding. One hand moving to get his phone, and dial Izzy. “Izzy! It's Alec! He's hurt!” Jace practically screamed at her. “We need to get him back to the institute as fast as possible!! I don't know how long he's been like this!!”
Alec could barely register what Jace was saying, let alone that it was Jace. His mind was playing tricks on him, as he lifted his hand towards Jace. “Mangus... I'm sorry.. So sorry.. Please forgive me, I love you...” He whispered.
Izzy heard everything through the phone and it wasn't moments later that she managed to find a warlock to portal her way to them both. Leaving the portal open just long enough that they could bring Alec back to the infirmary faster. Rushing her brother to aforementioned infirmary, and being pushed aside as the doctors took over. Jace took to pacing and Izzy just stood at the window to the infirmary staring into nothingness.
~ 8 hours later ~
Alec was being put into a recovery room to wake up from the anesthesia of the surgery. The doctor's informed his family and they all took turns sitting with him. That is when about an hour and a half into his recovery, he finally woke up.
Alec woke up and instantly winced from the bright lights. He wondered were he was for a few moments. But after taking in his surroundings, the sights and smells convinced him that he was back at the institute. Wincing when he tried to sit up, and also alerting Jace to his being awake.
“Alec??” Jace said probably a bit too loudly.
Alec winced at the voice from his side. “...Jace..” His eyes closing, before he turned his head in Jace's direction. He hurt, everywhere. “W-what happened?? I remember fighting the demons.. Then I was looking up at the stars...” He paused. “And, I thought I heard Magnus...”
Jace shook his head at the last part. “I'm afraid you thought I was Magnus, Alec.” Frowning, he reached up to grip his brother's hand tightly. “I found you on that roof. Dying. With one of your own arrows lancing through you. I didn't have the heart to tell you that I wasn't Magnus then.”
Alec's heart clenched in pain. So, he didn't get to apologize and tell him one last time that he loved him. “Oh god.. Am I still dying?”
Jace shook his head no. “The doctor will be coming in another hour to let us know how everything went. And to what extent you need to recover.”
The hour came and went. The doctor did arrive, letting his patient and family know that everything had gone well. Well, except for one hiccup. As the doctor said this, it made everyone worry all over again.
“I'm sorry that we couldn't save your baby, Mr. Lightwood.”
“My what?!?” Alec screeched. His hands fisting the sheets beneath him tightly. He had been pregnant and he hadn't even known?! How had that happened?!
“Your baby, Mr. Lightwood. A baby girl to be exact.”
“A daughter... I had a daughter..” Alec whispers, with tears falling from his eyes. He couldn't help it. He was devastated beyond devastated right now. First having to leave Magnus so that he can have his magic back, and now not knowing he had been pregnant or was even able to be. “Thank you, doctor.” He glanced at his family. “Can I be alone please? I need some time...” Alec lowered his head, and put his hands in his lap fidgeting them. “Doctor? Will I be able to see her? Maybe hold her?”
The doctor nodded. “We should be able to arrange something once we have you in a private room.”
“Thank you, Doctor. I really appreciate this. When will I be able to leave? I just want to go home and be in my own bed.” Alec gave a rueful smile.
Days later, Alec was allowed to leave the infirmary. He had held his daughter and even given her a name. Gianna Maryse Bane-Lightwood.
A part of him wanted to fire message Magnus to let him know about their daughter. But he was more worried about his own recovery, as he wasn't active duty ready. Alec also knew that he wouldn't be anytime soon. It was going to be a long and painful process. However, he also had to battle the mental loss and suffering as well. Between the loss of a baby, he never knew about and the loss of the very love of his life, Alec thought the pain would never stop.
