Cue: Troye Sivan’s ‘Fools’ is now playing.

Glancing at her phone’s clock, Minnie rolled her eyes and grunts as she turned her head to check on Naver Now’s studio. Miyeon’s taking a long time.

A small sigh escaped Minnie’s lips before she raised the volume of her phone, closing her eyes while she relishes the particular song from her favorite artist. Recently, she had been only listening to Troye Sivan’s music, and more specifically, this specific song in his album. Usually, Minnie would only listen to him to get inspiration or when she was playing on working her keys and notes. It was apparent how Troye Sivan had slight hints of influence in her compositions.

However, for some reason, Minnie was getting addicted to this song. And she knew it didn’t have something to do with the playful arrangements she would typically analyze. This time, she was absolutely and wholly immersed in the lyrics

‘Only fools fall for you, only fools.

Only fools do what I do, only fools fall.’

As Minnie waited for the Korean to wrap up her segment, her thoughts drifted to the several articles she read previously about the older girl. Miyeon was getting lots of offers after their comeback season. From her acting debut and her web drama’s success to being a DJ of Naver now, and recently, an MC of M Countdown, too.

With her exquisite beauty and endearing charms, it was no wonder how Miyeon could be Korea’s next IT girl, often breaking the internet even with her most absurd actions. If Minnie remembered correctly, the artist Miyeon suggested eventually trended on Melon just because she listened to it. It was clear how the public adores her a lot, and even the staff and idols had countlessly confessed their feelings towards the girl, too. Minnie could only scrunch up her nose upon recalling those. Funnily enough, she was with Miyeon every single time someone would profess their affection. She wondered if she’s doing a great job being Miyeon’s chaperon?

Minnie scoffed.

Ever since the issue arose with Soojin, Miyeon was the first to go out in public to do their job and carry the group’s name. She remembered how Miyeon was highly anxious and frightened by the public’s backlash--if there would be any. Hence, Minnie was thinking of easing up Miyeon’s tension or how she could help the girl even if Miyeon never asked for it. Yet...

It was only a joke-- Miyeon said it was a joke --but Minnie took it seriously when the older woman asked for her company in her first Naver Now episode, where it was supposed to be the five of them appearing as guests.

How could Minnie ever refuse?

Not that she likes Miyeon a lot, or she was absolutely heartbroken every time Miyeon’s lip would quiver when she smiles, or Minnie feels the need to protect the Korean from the impurities and evilness of the world--- no, certainly not. Minnie was just a considerate and kind best friend.

Of course. Best friend. Nothing more, nothing less.

“Minnie. Hey.”

Cue: Troye Sivan’s ‘Fools’ is paused.

Minnie suddenly woke up from her reverie upon hearing that faint call of her name, immediately pausing the song and turning to look at Miyeon, who was pouting cutely in front of her. And was dangerously close to her face, too!

Minne cleared her throat. “Yeah?”

“I was calling you inside, but I guess you didn’t hear.” Miyeon’s eyes then pointed at the Thai’s ear pods.

“Oh, sorry. I was listening to Troye Sivan,” The same excuse Minnie tells Miyeon so the Korean wouldn’t sulk.

Knowing Minnie getting too engrossed whenever it was her favorite artist, Miyeon nodded. “Yeah, I figured. That’s why I’m here.”

“What do you need me for anyway? Pictures?” Minnie sighed, pulling her air pods off and tucking them safely in their storage. It has always been like that. Ever since Minnie habitually accompanied Miyeon in her Naver Now segments, the older girl would always ask for Minnie’s assistance to take their pictures at the end of the show. Not that Minnie complained anyway. But it was a risk considering no one knew how she sneaks out just for Miyeon.

Not even her fansites knew she was actually with Miyeon every episode, arriving early at the venue, dropping by the back door to enter the building and meeting Miyeon, then waiting at the studio’s lounge listening to Troye Sivan, or at times, to Miyeon’s radio show. However, the latter seems to stir up some feelings inside Minnie, so she chose to listen to music instead. Miyeon looked angelic, attractive, pleasing, delicate, and classy in Minnie’s eyes every time she watches her talk.

“No, actually,” Miyeon suddenly bit her lip in hesitation. “Neon Paprika wants to meet you.” She blushed.

That’s odd. The casts don’t usually know of Minnie’s presence, or Miyeon doesn’t usually allow it for safety purposes-- in case a staff leaks this information.

Minnie furrowed her brows in confusion, “Who asked? How did they know? And you’re okay with it?”

The sudden bombard of questions from Minnie made Miyeon shift in her seat. “Well, uhm, Hwiyoung.”

“Hwiyoung? That…” Arrogant, but handsome boy who’s been crushing on you ? “…Jihoon guy?”

Miyeon blushed, “Yeah, it’s him.”

“Oh... I see.” Minnie was silent for a moment. And then, “You like him?” She teased, albeit the corner of her eye twitched a little when she smiled.

“What? No! What the heck are you saying!?” Miyeon frowned and suddenly stood up, though her cheeks went redder than earlier. “If you don’t want to go, just say it!”

“So defensive…” A soft chuckle escaped Minnie’s lips before she linked her arms with Miyeon, the latter huffing in annoyance but didn’t push the Thai away. “It’s fine, Miyeon ah. He’s charming~” God, that felt awful! “And I think he likes you too.”

“You think so?” Miyeon asked, squinting her eyes a bit at Minnie.

“I know so.”

Cue: Troye Sivan’s ‘Fools’ is now playing.

‘Only fools fall for you, only fools.

Only fools do what I do, only fools fall.’

“Noona is so pretty, isn’t she?”

Minnie was busy listening to Troye Sivan once again in one of her ears after feeling slightly left out after the brief introductions with Neon Paprika earlier. Hence she was a little startled when Hwiyoung suddenly spoke. She wasn’t even aware the guy was beside her!

“Uhm, yeah, sure. I guess?” She replied, smiling politely.

“Why? You disagree?” Hwiyoung tried to initiate a conversation while Miyeon was busy chatting with Jisoo.

“You should see her in our dorm. She’s a mess!” Minnie sniggered.

“I think that’s charming,” Hwiyoung quickly countered.

“You think so? Miyeon’s a sleepy head; absolute chaos and a dumbass,” A soft and affectionate giggle escaped Minnie’s lips. “She’s real grumpy, too. And clingy. Like, really clingy. Always looking for someone to hug her when she’s feeling it. You’ll be surprised how she often showers the members with kisses and compliments. It weird. But in a good way…”

Hwiyoung continued to stare at Minnie and would occasionally nod his head.

“We often argue, too. She always bickers with me, even the smallest things. We actually have different tastes. We don’t usually get along together, but Miyeon’s clinginess makes up for it. Oh, did I mention that she loves to bother us--or me-- a lot of times during work? Jeesh, that woman doesn’t care about time at all.”

“Is that why you’re always accompanying her until the end of her shows, even if it’s late?”

Cue: Troye Sivan’s ‘Fools’ is paused.

Minnie paused and looked at Hwiyoung, “What do you mean by that?”

“You sound like you like Miyeon noona. You know so much.”

Minnie snorted. “Me? That’s impossible! I’m her best friend.” The last sentence was said in a whisper, and Hwiyoung noticed it. “That’s why I know a lot!” Minnie quickly added.

“I see.”

“Besides,” Minnie sighed, eyes looking fondly at Miyeon, who’s now playing with Min Chul. “Only fools fall for Miyeon.”

“And you’re a fool, Hwiyoung ssi,” Minnie teased.

Hwiyoung lets out a heartily laugh and pats Minnie’s shoulder, then said, “I think I’m not the only one.”

“Yeah, Min Chul seems like a fool, too.” Minnie scoffed.

“I wasn’t talking about Min Chul, noona.”

Minnie stayed silent, and Hwiyoung understood. Walking back with the casts, Hwiyoung then waved goodbye at Minnie but not without saying, “Paboya, Minnie Noona.”

And Minnie could only shake her head and laugh with that mockery.

Cue: Troye Sivan’s ‘Fools’ is now playing.

‘The little things you like stick, and I like aerosol

Don't give a fuck, not giving up, I still want it all

Only fools fall for you, only fools

Only fools do what I do, only fools fall.’

“Yah, Kim Minnie!”

Cue: Troye Sivan’s ‘Fools’ is paused.

Pulling her airpod off her ears, Minnie scowled at Yuqi’s loud yell and slapped the younger girl’s shoulder in annoyance. Yuqi groaned in pain but quickly recovered when she remembered what she’s about to say.

“Your song is on fucking loop.” She pointed out.

Minnie raised a brow, “And???”

“You know,” Sliding beside the Thai, Yuqi slumped an arm around Minnie’s shoulder. “You can tell me anything, right? Problems in work, life---Miyeon.”

Pushing the Chinese away harshly, Minnie scoffed and rolled her eyes. “What about Miyeon?”

Groaning from pain, Yuqi replied, “Oh, don’t be hard on yourself!”

Realizing where this conversation was heading, Minnie pulled the duvet on top of her head and moved to the corner of her bed, blatantly ignoring the boisterous Chinese and grunting every time Yuqi would shake her exhausted body. They just recently arrived at their dorm, after all. And it was past midnight already.

“C’mon, Minnie! We all know you like Miyeon!” Yuqi pressed. “And you don’t listen to Troye Sivan unless you’re thinking about her, you useless, emo, and hopeless romantic gay!”

“Shut the fuck up!”

“Shut the fuck up!” Yuqi mocked.

“What the hell are you doing in my room anyway?”

“I need some deets! So, how was meeting Miyeon’s boyfriend, huh?”

Turning vehemently to face the Chinese, Minnie growled, “He’s not her boyfriend.”

“Ohh, someone’s jealous.” Yuqi dismissed and sang teasingly.

“I’m just stating facts! If you have nothing else to do, go back to your fucking room!”

Raising her hands and feeling Minnie’s apprehensiveness, Yuqi quickly backed away. “Fine, fine, hot head. Jeesh.”

“And close the door!!”

As soon as Minnie heard the slam of her door, she sighed and threw herself back in her bed, head landing softly on the cushions before a groan escaped her lips.

Miyeon’s pretty. Beautiful even. Compared to her, Miyeon looked so innocent and pure that the heavens must have been so biased to bless the Korean with such visuals. Not only that, but Miyeon was also incredibly genuine. Her clinginess might be annoying most of the time, but Minnie knew it’s just Miyeon being herself and wanting her members to feel loved. She recalled how she felt so alone when she was still a trainee, until Miyeon came into her life and suddenly, all songs made sense, and all sad tunes sounded like amusing melodies.

“I hate you…” She muttered, clutching the phone in her hand and plugging the air pods back in her ears once again. Miyeon was making her feel things she thought only existed in Troye Sivan’s songs.

Contemplating which song she should play tonight before sleep, her eyes fixed once again on Troye Sivan’s Fools. She noticed how it was indeed on loop for days now. Even her music’s history only showed that song. A soft sigh escaped her lips, and as she was about to hit the play button, Miyeon suddenly messaged her.

Miyeon:

Hey, pabo. Still up?

Minnie:

Yeah, why?

Miyeon:

I can’t sleep.

Taking her favorite pillow and perfume mist with her, Minnie silently tiptoed her way next door, making sure she didn’t leave any trails behind to avoid suspicion from either Yuqi or Soyeon.

Amidst the darkness in Miyeon’s room, Minnie could see the playful smile ghosting the corners of the Korean’s lips. And as soon as Miyeon’s arms wrapped around the Thai, inevitably, Minnie became a fool all over again.

Cue: Troye Sivan’s ‘Fools’ is now playing.

‘Only fools fall for you, only fools

Only fools do what I do; only fools fall

Only fools fall for you, only fools

Only fools do what I do, only fools fall.’
