Work Text:

When Kageyama had those dreams he wished he'd never wake up.

"Kageyama! Come on you idiot!" a small orange haired boy screamed from across the field, throwing a ball aiming to hit a certain person in the face. Not paying attention, Hinata's ball hit Kageyama exactly where Hinata wanted it to be.
"Bwahahaha! You couldn't even dodge that!" Hinata began laughing hysterically at the boy lying face down into the grass. The boy lay there not moving at all, Hinata walked closer to the boy, now standing over him.
"Kageyammaaa?" Hinata asked, squatting down poking at Kageyama's unturned back.
"you dead or something?" Hinata exclaimed jokingly increasing the intensity of his poking. No answer.
"Kageyam-."
All of a sudden the tiny red head found himself being pinned to the ground with the dark harried boy looming over him.
"Ha! I caught you!" Kageyama teased as he began tickling Hinata.
"Kage-! Pft- Stop!" Hinata squirmed as he burst out laughing. Trying to escape Kageyama's grasp,
"Nope!" Kageyama said with a large smirk stretched on his face. He began Tickling Hinata even harder.
"Ahh-! Pwhahaha! Stop-!" the smaller boy was laughing so hard he was near tears. They pushed and shoved each other around messing the whole time, not a second went by without hysterical laughing being the only sound heard.

Calming down, now the two boys were silently staring at each other. For some odd reason it wasn't awkward whatsoever, the silence was relaxing. Just each other's company was enough at the moment.
"if I was really too slow would you go off without me?" Kageyama asked, breaking the silence.
"Hmm? Of course not! You might be a stupid idiot who is as slow as an old man when we go on walks, But I'll always wait for you!" Hinata said, showing his smile, the smile bright enough to light up a whole room.
Kageyama nodded, smiling, happy with the answer he'd received.
He looked around, Butterflies flew around landing on the colourful wildflowers dotted around, trees in the distance danced to the gentle summer breeze. The sun was bright in the sky shining down directly above the two. Hinata's Brown eyes looked lighter under the sun, sparkling as well. His hair also looked glossier and softer. Without any notice Kageyama leaned in and ruffled the other's hair, Unconsciously slowly leaning even further, their faces almost touching-.

'Beep, Beep, Beep.'
His heart sank before his eyes even opened, when Kageyama had those dreams he wished he'd never wake up. His room was dark, clothes were thrown around the room, it smelt bad, the room was extremely dirty. Kageyama's usually plain, clean room has been dark and filthy ever since then. His head throbbed, as did his heart. Getting up, the 'beeping' still continued. without the strength to turn off the alarm, the sound echoed through his head, gradually getting louder and louder. Becoming loud enough for him to throw the alarm at the wall smashing it to pieces.

The team split into two groups for a practice game. It was awfully quiet, no one could start a conversation, nor did anyone want to. Rain hit the roof of the gym, the sound echoed along with the volleyballs being slammed into the ground.

As the ball inched towards Kageyama, the memory of their first quick attack came into mind,
"Hinata to you!" Kageyama set the ball to the orange haired boy.

The ball dropped onto the ground with a light thud. Time seemed to have slowed down for a moment, Kageyama watched as the ball fell onto the ground, without it being spiked. Though the ball only gently hit the ground, it felt like the whole world shook. Both sides of the court froze, nobody spiked the ball, nobody was there to spike the ball. No orange haired boy spiked the ball.

The room was filled with a deathly silence, the sound of rain became even clearer. It was so quiet, if u listened hard enough, their heartbeats would be heard.
"Kageyama, Hinata's-" Suga couldn't finish his sentence, neither could anyone else in the room.

Sinking into the ground, a low Sob was heard. The tears that were not heard earlier all flooded out, unable to cry at the funeral, at the cemetery, all those tears came out now. Kageyama, sat in the middle of the gym as silent tears ran down his face. The rest of the team, not able to do anything, watched as the dark headed boy flushed weeks worth of emotions all out at once.

Unable to stop himself, Tears continued to flow, the sound painful to hear, the sight painful to watch.

"You're such a Liar Hinata,"
"You said you'd always wait for me."
