Work Text:
“I don't wanna die or fade away
I just wanna be someone
I just wanna be someone
Dive and disappear without a trace
I just wanna be someone
Well, doesn't everyone?”
Ganyu was never the social type, she didn’t have time to entertain such niceties, she had work to do. Sure she’d like to go out with friends, but it just wasn’t in the stars for her. While she was sitting at her desk finishing up the day’s mountain of paperwork, she was interrupted by a hand smacking the table. Startling the timid woman.
The person so eager to gain Ganyu’s attention was Jen, a co-worker of hers. The two have spoken briefly before, usually when she’s giving out work advice. Ganyu considered Jen a decent, well put together person. They are nice and talented, but they were quite loud which often startles the gentle woman. Jen is headstrong and always goes after what they desire, Ganyu admires that greatly. Truthfully Ganyu admires Jen entirely for being so sure of what they want but, why were they here?
“And if you feel the great dividing
I wanna be the one you're guiding
'Cause I believe that you could lead the way”
“Jen? Um, is there something I could help you with?” Ganyu rubbed her hands together to soothe her nerves. Why was she so nervous? It was just Jen.
Jen looked at Ganyu with a determined spark in their eyes, “Yes. Will you go on a date with me this Saturday!”
“I just wanna be somebody to someone, oh
I wanna be somebody to someone, oh
I never had nobody and no road home
I wanna be somebody to someone”
The request left Ganyu at a loss for words. A date? Why? She’s never been on a date before, let alone with someone she works with. Work! She can’t just take off from her duties for a silly old date! If she fails to complete her tasks on time everything will crash.
Ganyu looked down at her shaking hands, trying to think of a way to decline Jen’s invitation.“I-I’m so sorry Jen, but I must decline. I’m way to bu-”
Jen placed a hand over Ganyu’s in a reassuring gesture, hoping to calm their worried senior. “Please Ganyu. You can go out for one night, the world won’t go crumbling down if you do.” They smiled at the gorgeous senior. She works so hard, too hard, and Jen knew it. Ganyu needed a break, and Jen wasn’t going to leave without a yes.
“I don’t know…” Ganyu wasn’t convinced, she needed to be here. Her juniors needed her, she’s the backbone of this place and she can’t just leave for a personal day.
“Dinner this Saturday, a stroll through a beautiful garden, finished with a picnic under the moonlight. Come on Ganyu, you deserve it. You worry about everyone else, you hold so much weight on your shoulders. Let me treat you to a well deserved night so you can get a break for once.” Jen was hoping for a yes. What can she say to possibly counter that?
Ganyu was once again left speechless. She lifted her head meeting Jenna’s determined eyes. Those eyes told her they weren’t giving up without a yes. “Alright. I will see you Saturday.”
“And if the sun's upset and the sky goes cold
Then if the clouds get heavy and start to fall
I really need somebody to call my own
I wanna be somebody to someone
Someone to you”
Ganyu was now at home, standing in front of her mirror looking at how this pink strawberry dress hugged her form. Suddenly she became nervous about how Jen would perceive her appearance, she wanted to look her best for them. Wait. For them? She shook the thought from her mind and turned her attention to the way her makeup appeared on her face, then how her hair framed her face. She was pulled from her confusing thoughts by the doorbell ringing. Ganyu made some last-minute touch-ups to her appearance before answering the door. There stood Jen, in a suit with their hair pulled back in a small ponytail. Held in their hand was a bouquet of roses. Ganyu could feel her heart begin to speed up as her cheeks heated up. Was this really happening?
“Let me take this moment to ask you formally.” Jen extended the hand with the roses in it to Ganyu. “I never really had much before getting a job here in the Qixing. When I met you, I felt something in my chest and- I want to be with you. Ganyu, can I be someone to you?” Jen’s cheeks were just as red as Ganyu’s but they kept eye contact with her, this small action showing so much vulnerability
Ganyu took the roses nodding her head unable to form words at this moment. She was overflowing with an emotion unfamiliar to her yet, she didn’t want it to end. Jen took her hand leading the way to the restaurant, charming and chatting with Ganyu along the way.
“The kingdom come, the rise, the fall
The setting sun above it all
I just wanna be somebody to you”
Their time during dinner was full of smiles and laughter. Jen was beginning to see more of Ganyu’s true personality peek through, which only added more to fall in love with. While the two were strolling through the garden Ganyu was happily walking ahead looking at all the flowers and smelling a few. Jenna stopped walking and watched Ganyu happily for a moment before looking up to the sky at the moon, they closed their eyes to send a silent “thank you” in prayer. Moments later Jen felt a gentle hand grab theirs. They opened their eyes to look at its owner, whose purple eyes shimmered in the light with a bit of concern.
“Are you alright?” Ganyu asked her partner in a small voice. She noticed they had stopped walking and seemed lost a bit in their own mind. She hoped they weren’t having second thoughts.
“I couldn’t be better.” Jen smiled reassuring their worried partner. They took this moment as an opportunity to peck Ganyu’s cheek, who immediately became flustered and unable to form sentences again. Jen chuckled at her reaction and lead the way up the hill to where the couple’s picnic was to be set up.
“Someone to you”
The weather couldn’t have been better for this night. The sky was clear, the moon was bright and full, and the stars were all able to be seen. Jen sat the picnic basket down to lay out the blanket. Soon after that, they let Ganyu sit on the blanket first. The two began asking one another questions about each other’s lives and interests. Soon though, Jen laid on the blanket looking at the stars causing Ganyu to do the same. Jen began to point out stars, planets, and constellations to the woman at their side, stealing glances to see her reactions.
Ganyu was loving all of it, she enjoyed listening to Jen go on about astrology. She turned her head smiling opening her mouth to say something. “Jen?”
“Yes, Ganyu?”
For the first time, Ganyu took a leap out of her comfort zone, leaning up and pecking Jen on the lips. “I want to be someone to you too.”
