"How many petals do you think this sunflower has?" Felix asked.
"It depends, I guess. I'm not really sure. Why don't you try counting them?" the older one jokingly suggested, taking off his emerald painted hoodie.
"Nah, it's like trying to count how many days I have left," Felix satirically answered. Despite of his jovial response, his sadness was still evident and it started to make Chan worry.
Silence brimmed for a moment before the older boy asked an expected question, "When are you going to tell Changbin?"
"In time."
"What if it doesn't work?"
"Well, it's worth a try," Felix said, holding out a sigh. His hand landed on the sunflower petals and he began to pick them one by one. "I mean, there are instances that feelings get reciprocated after they are confessed, you know."
"You know there's another option, right?"
Felix turned to face Chan and questioningly arched an eyebrow.
"What if after you confess, Changbin still doesn't feel the same? You're too caught up in your own conjecture, Felix, you're not looking at the other side."
"—and you know surgery would be best," Chan finally said after a short pause.
The older boy knew that what he said would not make Felix feel any less despondent, but someone had to say it. Felix had to realise that things doesn't always go as planned, especially when it comes to love.
