Coffee & Comfort

Summary:

Draco is feeling upset so he pets Coffee to make himself feel better. Harry tries to help.

Notes:

Happy birthday to my longest and closest online friend, Gnarfy aka Swampy. You've always been there for me whenever I've needed someone to talk to or to give me advice about stupid crush things. Anyway, for this drabble I knew I had to write something fluffy for you because there's nothing you love more than Drarry fluff, and I've given you enough suffering and pain and trauma because of my other *cough* works.

So I figured I'd write you a (sort of but not really) continuation to Chasing Coffee. This drabble stars our favourite guide dog, Coffee, and Draco seeking comfort from her, as well as Harry caring for Draco in the best way he can.

Love ya Gnarfs!

PS: Thank you Miaka for this amazing art piece!

Work Text:

Draco sat on his bed, petting Coffee’s head with small frown on his face. The frown twitched, threatening to turn into a smile every time Coffee barked up at him. Draco sighed softly, looking down at the adorable dog, with her beautiful coffee-coloured fur and her tail wagging happily. Her tongue lolled out just slightly from the corner of her mouth, the pink of it a stark contrast against her fur.

She seemed content. Draco supposed he should feel the same way, but he couldn’t get rid of the frown on his face. It was a good thing that Harry couldn’t see it. Draco didn’t know how he would have explained what was bothering him to Harry.

Harry was sitting at his desk, a few feet away from Draco and Coffee. His mouth moved as he muttered the incantations to different spells. Draco watched Harry for a moment before dropping his head down, on top of Coffee’s.

“I’m feeling sad, Coffee,” he whispered to her. “I had a fight with my parents earlier. Do you think you can make me feel better?”

Coffee yapped in response as if accepting the challenge.

Harry tried to hear what Draco was saying to Coffee but failed spectacularly. The truth was that Harry was only pretending to study. He had known that something had been off with Draco after he had received a letter from his parents.

He knew that Coffee was the only one capable of lifting Draco’s mood instantaneously, and that even if Draco did not want to share what was bothering him with Harry, he could share it with Coffee without worrying about being judged.

Draco glanced up as he heard familiar footsteps and saw Harry walking towards him. Sitting on the edge of his bed, Harry reached out and let his fingertips graze Draco’s. “Do you want to talk about what’s bothering you, Draco?”

Draco’s sigh was enough of an answer for Harry. He let his hand cup Draco’s cheek, his thumb rubbing gently against Draco’s skin. “Do you want to put your head on my shoulder then?” Harry smiled as he felt Draco’s head leaning against his shoulder, his hair tickling Harry’s neck.

With his hands deep in Coffee’s fur and his head resting on Harry’s shoulder, Draco closed his eyes and finally felt a small smile growing across his lips.
