Sapnap had never questioned his household structure before. Ever since he could remember, it'd been him, his dad, and Skeppy. He hadn't ever thought about it. Skeppy was just... there. He took care of him along with his dad, ate with them, slept in his dad's room; it wasn't until he was talking with his friends that he began to have questions.
"Who's that blue guy that lives with you?" George had asked, curiosity shining in his eyes.
"Huh? Oh, that's Skeppy."
"Is he your other dad?" Dream had chimed in, glancing at the house behind them.
"What? No," he'd answered, frowning at the question.
"Then why's he live with you and your dad?"
Sapnap had scrunched up his face, trying to think of a reason. But no matter what, he couldn't come up with an explanation that made sense.
Now curious himself, he'd resolved to ask his dad the next time he was alone with him. He didn't want Skeppy to overhear and think he didn't want him here or something.
That time came while Skeppy was out doing something or other, with his dad baking in the kitchen. Sapnap approached and twiddled his fingers before blurting out, "Hey dad?"
Now aware of his son's presence in the room, the demon turned towards him with a bright smile. "Ah, hey Sappy-nappy! What do you need?"
"Um, I was wondering..." Sapnap bit his lip, trying to think of how to ask. "How... did you meet Skeppy?"
His dad's face lit up. "Oh! Have I not told you that story before?"
Sapnap shook his head.
"Well, it's actually kind of funny. You see, he was messing around with some witchcraft stuff he'd found in a temple or something of the sort," his dad explained, continuing to mix whatever he had in the bowl he was grasping, "and he accidentally ended up summoning me from the Nether, like the muffinhead he is.
"We went on a long journey to try and get me back home, but by the time we finally got there," the smile on his father's face shifted to something softer, fonder, "well, I didn't really want to leave anymore. Ever since then, we've been inseparable!"
"Is he my other dad?"
A flush of red appeared on his father's black cheeks, glowing warmly as he spluttered. "Well-! N-No, not strictly speaking- I-"
He coughed before setting down his bowl and kneeling down to his son's height. "Listen Sappy, Skeppy and I are... life partners. We don't plan on getting married or anything, so I wouldn't call him your other dad. But we do love each other very much, okay? And Skeppy cares a lot about you as well."
Sapanp nodded before thinking back to something Dream and George had been whispering about earlier. "Do you kiss each other?"
His dad turned as red as the stripes on his coat. "...that's none of your business, young man."
Sapnap giggled before nodding his head. "Okay, okay. Got it."
His dad sighed lightheartedly, a fond smile on his face. "Alright, that's enough questions. Now come help me with these muffins, you little troublemaker."
"Hehe, alright."
