Kunimi finds it annoying how Hinata seems to have his eyes on him most of the time during training camp. Scratch that, he knows that Hinata watches him all the time.
As days passed by, Kunimi thinks the ginger starts to give him less attention than he usually does. He notices how Hinata jumps onto his fellow first years and showers them with praises and compliments, but he never does with him. He notices how Hinata befriends everyone, even the Shiratorizawa's third years. He thinks that he should feel relieved. He doesn't have to feel conscious with his actions since no one's watching him directly anymore but why is he further annoyed with it?
The training camp has come to an end and the boisterous first years proceed to exchange emails and numbers. Kunimi, being excluded from the loud ones, walks around to look for his friend. It seems like luck isn't on his side when he finds Kindaichi talking to the person he doesn't really want to interact with.
“Ka— Is Kageyama doing well?"
“Sure he is. Outside of exam time period."
“I see."
“Why'd ya' ask?"
“...uh, I g-guess it's 'coz his play style has changed drastically from the past," he hears Kindaichi stammers.
“You are way too hung up over what happened back in middle school," Kunimi says, not even slightly looking apologetic to intrude in the conversation. "You did your best back then, didn't you?" he continues, eyes still glued to Kindaichi. The latter seems surprised from his friend's arrival but then immediately retorts as if he's caught doing a crime, "I'm just making idle small talk!"
“But you know, it's normal to be at each other's throats every now and again, no?" Hinata states while glancing back and forth to the two. Kunimi, at last, looks at Hinata and regrets it immediately. During their 5 days at the training camp, he has seen some drastic changes on the ginger. To be exact, every little change . Hinata and Kindaichi continue their small talk but Kunimi doesn't really understand a thing when he's eminently distracted by the way the setting sun paints hues of orange and yellow to Hinata's innocent but cunning features. Kunimi shrugs the thought and cuts off Hinata. "Whatever. Who cares about Kageyama anyway. We're gonna wreck you guys in the next official match," Kunimi declares while putting his hands on Kindaichi's shoulders then pushes him towards the gate. Kunimi then looks back to Hinata and sticks his tongue out.
“Wait!" Hinata calls out, causing the two to halt. "Kunimi-kun," he says while catching up to them. "I'll leave first," Kindaichi, after giving Kunimi a knowing look, leaves without having to hear what Kunimi has to say. “What?" Kunimi asks Hinata, heart beating erratically in his chest and being the oblivious one that he is, doesn't have an idea why. "I just noticed that during the camp, you're always watching me." Hinata's statement made Kunimi's jaw drop in surprise. "Did I perhaps do something wrong?" he asks, eyes looking into Kunimi's squinting ones.
“W-What are you talking about? You're the one who has his eyes on me during camp," Kunimi stutters. Realizing what he had said, his face turns beet red then proceeds to turn away from Hinata. The latter laughs, sounding very angelic into Kunimi's ears.
“Well yeah, I've been watching you. But I'm pretty sure you're watching me, too," Hinata utters while walking towards Kunimi. "But if you say that you didn't…" He pauses. Kunimi turns to look at him expectantly. Hinata gives him a smile full of determination and amusement. "...looks like I have to do something amazing in the future just to have your eyes on me," he ends his declaration with a smirk, then changes his determined expression into something more like himself in a beat. He then walks towards the gate, leaving Kunimi behind but before he goes out, he looks back then waves him goodbye.
"Okay. I'll be waiting." Kunimi mutters under his breath while a contented smile creeps up on his lips.
